Menara television tower in kuala lumpur Menara KL - the best viewpoint in Kuala Lumpur Petronas Towers in numbers

Menara Kuala Lumpur is the official name of the TV tower in the capital of Malaysia. Since we have a site about the tallest structures and there is an overview on the Menara, we will also capture the TV towers with our blog 🙂 Moreover, Menara Kuala Lumpur is the seventh highest in the world among such structures. Yields to Menara KL Towers Sky Tree Tokyo (Japan) 634 m, Guangzhou TV Tower (China) 610 m, CN Tower in Toronto (Canada) 553 m, Ostankino TV Tower in Moscow (Russia) 540 m, Pearl of the East in Shanghai (China) 468 m, Borje Milad in Tehran (Iran) 435 m. For the original illumination, Menara KL received the unofficial name "Garden of Light". By the way, this entire list and the beautiful bas-reliefs of all the towers are placed on a closed observation deck. But more on everything below.

Working hours: from 9:00 to 22:00.

Entrance fee to Menara KL Tower

The visit to the tower is divided into several different programs, which differ in the set of visited parks (attractions) in the tower. The easiest way to visit only the observation deck is 49 ringit / 29 ringit - for children. A visit to the open area costs 99 ringit. A ticket to visit all the entertainment in the tower costs 118 ringit / 87 ringit - for children. A video-audio guide is given at the entrance to the observation deck free of charge. The use of stationary binoculars on the observation deck is also free.
If you want to climb even higher, then bypassing the purchase of tickets for the observation deck, head to the restaurant, which is located at an altitude of 282 meters. Restaurant prices are reasonable for this height.

How to get to the Menara Tower of Kuala Lumpur?

Menara TV Tower is located in the central part of the city in the "Golden Triangle" If you are staying in the Bukit Bintang area or in Chinatown, then you can walk to the tower in 15-20 minutes (the distance in a straight line, a little more than a kilometer). The TV tower is visible from almost anywhere in the city, so you can simply follow in its direction. The entrance to the tower is from Jalan Punchak Street (at the intersection with Jalan P Ramlee) on the east side of the tower. The building itself is located on a hill, which can be climbed on foot (but quite difficult), take a taxi or wait for a free minibus that picks up visitors and takes them to the foot of the tower every 15 minutes.
If there is no desire to stomp to the tower on foot, then at a distance of about half a kilometer from it there are the Bukit Nanas monorail station, as well as the Dan Wangi station of the Kelana Jaya line of the LRT Rail city metro. Unfortunately, there is no way to get closer to the tower by public transport, as it is surrounded by a green park.

I walked to the tower because I lived relatively close. And I rode the mini-bass all the way to the entrance. Free and fast 🙂 I bought a ticket for both viewing and sold an XD film and an F1 simulator in addition. The difference is 14 rengit, but the pleasure is dubious. By the way, do not rush to climb the open area. You can go there only once. Because you sign a paper at the bottom that you will not kill yourself from this tower, and then you give this paper to the guard at the top at the entrance to the observation deck. Of course, the view from the tower is stunning:

The history of the construction of the Menara Tower from Wikipedia:

Construction of the tower lasted from October 4, 1991 to May 1996. The construction chronology can be divided into 4 phases:

  • First phase October 4, 1991 - August 15, 1992: expansion of the construction site and excavation of the foundation.
  • Second phase 6 July 1992 - 15 April 1993: construction of the foundation and basement of the tower. For 31 hours, 50,000 cubic meters of concrete was poured in a continuous stream, which was a record in the construction industry in Malaysia.
  • The third phase - construction of the super building began in May 1994. The construction of the tower began with the construction of the trunk, then the top of the tower and finally the construction of tourist facilities.

The design of the tourist facilities reflects the classical Islamic culture of Malaysia. For example, the dome of the main lobby, which resembles a giant diamond, is made using the mukarnakh technique.

On September 13, 1994, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato ’Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad performed the ceremony of installing the antenna and determining the final height of the building - 421 meters.

I remembered about my zoom lens 🙂 In the open area it is relevant 🙂

In the best traditions of such ascents, I met the sunset on the observation deck.

True, it was a mistake to do it in a closed area. As in the case with which so far only a closed observation deck is working, there are a lot of glare from glass and ill-conceived lighting.

You can stay here for a very long time, there are many shops with food. You can watch with binoculars for free. As far as I remember, this was not the case. After sunset, of course, Petronas pleases, on the overview of which I could not get:

Have you been to this wonderful city of Kuala Lumpur?

Reaching the clouds with your hands, feeling like a bird soaring high above a busy metropolis - all this can be done by visiting the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur. These two grandiose structures are unusually beautiful: the graceful domes of giants rest against the bright blue Malaysian sky, everything around immediately becomes small and insignificant. All this is caused by an unprecedented admiration that arises when looking at the city from the observation deck of the most beautiful twin towers.

Kuala Lumpur is a city that is famous not only in Malaysia itself, but throughout the world. The name of this place, for those who have not been here, immediately evokes vivid associations in which vines hang from small houses, and do not allow to move calmly, and friendly koalas, curiously look at people from the trees. However, Kuala Lumpur is far from these fantasies. In reality, this is the city that is known for its beautiful and modern skyscrapers. The most famous and tallest among them are the Petronas Towers.

Malaysia is hiding - read more in our article.

Once upon a time, there were directors of a large state oil and gas company, Petronas. Everything was good with them: they had considerable income, and there was a desire to develop, but they did not have an office that would correspond to the requirements and status of the company. Around the same time, many large cities took part in the so-called "race for skyscrapers": who will have a higher skyscraper, who will be more beautiful and more practical. The leader in this competition at that time (late 90s) was the Willis Tower skyscraper in Chicago.

Without thinking twice, the Petronas company followed the move that won the US championship: it built the Twin Towers! Yes, such that they are both tall and appearance surpassed all their predecessors. Without thinking twice, the name of the skyscrapers was given in honor of the company - the creator: both sounds beautiful and good PR.

Architecture

Islam is the predominant religion in Malaysia. The architects came up with an interesting move in order not to deviate far from their traditions, even during the construction of such a significant structure, which was destined to become an ornament of the whole city. An eight-pointed star (a symbol of Islam) was taken as the basis for the building plan, and the domes, which are crowned with skyscrapers, resemble mosques in their outlines. This made the city authorities happy and only benefited the giant twins. These are the most urban Muslim-style skyscrapers to date.

Construction

The Malaysian Twin Towers are skyscrapers with the deepest concrete foundations in the entire world! 100 meters, this is the depth that took a little over three years to create. Throughout this time, every day for every 90 seconds, special trucks alternately poured the foundations of the towers, which consisted of particularly high-strength and resilient concrete. This helped prevent soil subsidence and made skyscrapers completely protected from hurricanes that sometimes do not bypass Malaysia.

Another interesting thing is the construction of a glass bridge, which connects the towers to each other at a height of 41-42 floors. This bridge is not only practical, but also symbolic. On the one hand, thanks to him, people can freely move between skyscrapers. On the other hand, it is a symbol of unification and proximity to heaven, it is not for nothing that the bridge has its own name - Skybridge. It was designed in South Korea, after which it, in 500 separate parts, was delivered to Kuala Lumpur. Here it was reassembled in its original form and taken upstairs, where it was installed at a great height for 3 days.

The Twin Towers appeared on Russian cinema screens in the film "Code of the Apocalypse". According to the script, the heroine of Anastasia Zavorotnyuk jumped with one of the towers with a parachute. The stunt was performed by the actress's understudy. The failure was that during the jump the power line was hit and torn down, which left the whole block without electricity for some time.

Even earlier, skyscrapers appeared in the film "Trap", the main characters of which famously flew from one building to another on a kind of "ropes".

In 1997, the famous French rock climber "Spiderman" tried to conquer one of the towers, climbing it. However, he only managed to get to the 60th floor, where he was arrested by the police. An unpleasant incident did not stop the daredevil, and after 10 years he tried to repeat his ascent, choosing the second tower. However, ironically, the police caught up with him, and again on the same floor.

The gaming industry also could not ignore the famous skyscrapers: the Petronas towers appear in three levels of the popular computer game Hitman 2: The Silent Assassin.

Petronas Towers in numbers

451, 9 m - this is the height of each of the Petronas buildings.

88 floors - this is the height of the first and second towers.

The 6th place in the world is occupied by the twin towers among the tallest buildings in the world.

16,000 windows are located in these towers.

10,000 people constantly wash and clean the windows of the towers.

30 days is how long it takes to completely clean all the windows of the Twin Towers.

$ 800 million was spent on the construction of the Petronas Towers.

Two-storey elevators serve these buildings. One floor of the elevator stops on the even floor, while the second - on the odd floor, respectively.

3,000 m2 - that much concrete was needed to create a high-strength foundation for the skyscrapers

213,750 m2, or 48 hectares - this is the total area of the entire territory of the Twin Towers. To make it clearer: this figure is equal in number to 48 football fields.

650,000 people weekly visit various shops that are located in a shopping center of one of the skyscrapers.

Nearly 5,500 vehicles can be accommodated in the underground car park under the towers.

Despite the fact that the Petronas Towers lost the lead in the struggle for the tallest skyscrapers in the world, their beauty and grandeur continue to conquer both designers and ordinary tourists from all over the world. An amazing combination of Muslim traditions and the most reliable construction technologies made the twin skyscrapers a miracle of modern architecture.

Menara TV Tower - one of the symbols of Kuala Lumpur

We got to the Menara not the first time ... Every time, arriving in Kuala Lumpur, we stayed with my friend and our goal was not sightseeing of the city, but pleasant communication over a glass (and not one!) Of wine 🙂 Despite the extensive home program we nevertheless got out to the city several times 🙂

The first time we came to the Menara tower on a gray September day and did not even have time to buy tickets, a heavy downpour began. And it's pointless to climb to the observation deck in the rain: the open observation deck of the Menara Tower does not work in bad weather, and when it is closed because of the rain, you cannot see anything. After waiting for about an hour for the rain to end, drinking coffee, eating durian ice cream, going around all the souvenir shops on the first floor, we did not wait for the rain to end and decided to postpone our visit to the Menara TV tower for the next time.

"Durian" shop on the ground floor. Here you can buy dried durians, durian sweets, ice cream and other goodies 🙂

Next time we were more fortunate 🙂 After, before the flight to, we again stopped in Kuala Lumpur to see my friend, this time we finally managed to visit the Menara Tower and climb the observation decks 🙂

Menara TV Tower Kuala Lumpur. Our photo review

Having got to the Menara Tower from the second time in sunny clear weather, we decided to visit two observation decks at once: open and closed, Sky Deck and Observation Deck. When buying tickets for the Sky Desk, they ask you to sign a piece of paper stating that you do not have any contraindications for being at such a height and that you take all the risks.

A small queue at the entrance to the elevator, a minute of ascent by a high-speed elevator and here we are at an altitude of 276 m in front of the entrance to the Sky Deck.

Rise on the high-speed elevator to the entrance to the Sky Deck

The Menara TV Tower, unlike in Bangkok, is completely open, i.e. without a grid around, so the photos are great! Particularly beautiful is the view of another symbol of the capital of Malaysia - the Petronas Towers.

An open observation deck with a 360-degree view. There are no nets or fences, nothing interferes with the view

Views of the city from the open area:

There are two large cubes equipped here - the Sky Box. They are completely glass, including the floor! Before entering the sky box, you must leave all things nearby and take off your shoes. The experience of walking on a glass floor at such a height is simply unforgettable! Especially for those who, like me, are very afraid of heights. We already walked on the glass floor on the famous Na, took pictures on the glass floor at the top of the Ostankino TV tower, but this is not the same, compared to the glass floor on the Menara. To be honest, I hardly overpowered myself to walk on the glass and take a photo.

In the Sky Box, you can be photographed by a professional photographer, and then these photos can be redeemed at the exit (it seems that the cost is 150 MYR for two printed photos).

They say that usually there are long queues at the Sky Box and only two minutes are given for a photo! But we were lucky: during our visit to the Menara Tower observation deck, there were very few people and we did not stand in any queues. The most popular and crowded time on the tower, as in any other, is around six in the evening, before sunset.

It’s very, very scary for me to sit on the glass floor at such a height! Having overcome my fear, I reached the edge of the glass cube 🙂
And Lesha is not scared 🙂
Rare joint photo 🙂

After walking a lot and taking a bunch of photos against the backdrop of cityscapes, we went down to the Observation Deck and walked there as well. By the way, the photo of Kuala Lumpur through the glass in the Observation Deck turned out to be no worse, and maybe even better, than from the open area. And I must say that surprisingly the windows were very clean, unlike the windows in Bangkok 🙂

That was the end of our visit to the Menara TV tower, satisfied we went down, waited for the bus shuttle, went down the hill and walked to the twin towers - to the Petronas Twin Towers to have a good shopping in the shopping center below them. By the way, I recommend Kuala Lumpur for shopping! 🙂
