The purpose of the KAEL-5 laboratory

Mobile cable laboratory KAEL-5 is designed for:

  • testing of insulation of cables and other devices and devices with direct and alternating (50 Hz) high voltage;
  • burning of defective insulation of cables with its subsequent afterburning;
  • determination of the route of cable lines;
  • topographic determination of places of damage to cable lines by induction and acoustic methods;
  • determination of the distance to the place of damage of high-voltage cables with a voltage of 0.4 ... 10 kV by a pulsed burn-free method at high and low voltage;
  • determination of the place of cable damage of the "single-phase short circuit" type.

High-voltage test block BVI-60/50-M2:

  • The unit is designed for testing the insulation of power cables and solid dielectrics with a rectified electric voltage up to 60 kV, as well as for testing solid dielectrics with a sinusoidal electric voltage of 50 Hz up to 42 kV (rms value).
  • The unit includes a high-voltage transformer T1, a half-wave rectifier of negative polarity VD1-VD180, a measuring DC voltage divider R1-R3 and a shunt for measuring the output current R4, R5. The rectifier is shunted by the normally closed contacts of the high-voltage switch K1.1, and in this position, an alternating voltage is obtained at the output of the BVI-60/50. When a high-voltage switch is applied to the electromagnet K1, a constant voltage can be obtained from the control unit at the output.

Burning unit for cables BPR-20/8:

The block is designed for burning direct current defective insulation of cables, as well as the charge of capacitive storage in the acoustic method of finding places of damage.

Burning unit BPR-20/8 includes:

  • power transformer T1;
  • high-voltage rectifiers VD1-VD32, VD33-VD55, connected in series;
  • high-voltage switches K1-K2;
  • high-voltage voltage divider R1-R3;
  • measuring shunt R

In the burning mode, the output voltage is removed from the output X5 "-20 kV" relative to the common terminal X3, which is connected to the working ground.

In all modes, a smooth change in the current in the load is ensured by changing the mains voltage from the thyristor regulator.

Acoustics generator GAUV-20 kV (generator of acoustic shock waves):

GAUV-20kV is a capacitive storage device with a pulse discharge, and is designed to find places of damage to cable lines with a transition resistance R ≥ 500 Ohm by the acoustic method together with a POZ, POISK-2005 or P-805 receiver and an acoustic sensor.

GAUV-20kV contains:

  • capacitive storage C1 with a capacity of 2.2 μF for 35 kV;
  • switch F1 (serves to switch the storage charge into the load;
  • switch Q1 (serves to discharge the drive after removing the voltage);
  • discharge resistor R1;
  • pulse current transformer TA1 (generates the signal of the output current pulse GAUV to the ISKRA-3 reflectometer).

When the control voltages are supplied from the control unit, the switch Q 1 opens its contacts, and the switch KF1 switches the storage charge into the load.

The charge of GAUV-20kV is produced from the burning unit. The highest operating voltage is 24 kV, although the operating voltage of the capacitor is 35 kV. This achieves an increased resource of the capacitor.

Control block:

The block is designed for operational inclusion and disconnection of consumers of the electrical laboratory, as well as to control the operation of acoustics generators, a burning unit, a high-voltage test unit and an afterburner unit. The control unit also provides measurement of input and output values ​​of voltages and currents of the laboratory.

Equipment for finding places of damage to cable lines:

High-voltage oscillographic reflectometer ISKRA-3:

The reflectometer is designed to determine the distance to the place of damage of high-voltage cables with a voltage of 0.4 ÷ 10 kV, length up to 12000 m by a pulse method at low and high voltage (up to 15 ÷ 60 kV).

A distinctive feature of the reflectometer is that it can determine the distance to the place of damage by the current pulses of the acoustics generator, and in the case of a "floating" breakdown, the distance is determined by the signal from the high-voltage pulse voltage sensor.

Sound frequency generator GZCH-2500:

The generator is used to determine the route of the cable and find the place of damage to the power cable using the P-805 induction receiver. In this case, at the place of damage, the insulation resistance should be in the range of 0.5-100 ohms.

Receiver P-806:

Serves for finding places of cable damage by the induction method (when working in conjunction with an audio frequency generator GZCH-2500 and an induction sensor) and an acoustic method (when working in conjunction with an acoustics generator and an acoustic sensor).

Receiver POISK-2006:

It is used to locate all types of damage on the ground (including single-phase conductor-to-sheath short circuit).

High voltage switches:

The high-voltage switches are located in the control rack, and include phase selection switches (“PHASE A”, “PHASE B” and “PHASE C”) and the mode switch of the burner unit “BURN-CHARGE GAUV”. Phase selection switches allow you to select one or another phase of the power cable with which you work, and ground it or connect to it the outputs of certain devices included in the laboratory kit, namely:

The burner unit mode switch "BURNING GAUV-20KVkV / CHARGE GAUV 5kV" switches the output voltage of the burner unit either to the phase selection switches or to charge the capacitors of the GAUV-5 kV acoustics generator.

Three-phase short-circuiter:

A three-phase short-circuit breaker ensures the closure of one, two or all three phases to the working ground bus. The short-circuiter is located in the control rack.
