How to make a Vkontakte group widget

It's time to move from theory to practice, for which we go to the well-known site vk.com and on any page we go down to the very bottom of the screen, where in the footer you will have to click on the "Developers" link.

After that, you should be taken to a special page where you can develop or manage social applications. In this section of the site, we need the "Authorization and widgets for sites" window, so we click on it.

Now you need to click on the "Communities" link from the "Site Widgets" section to connect it to the site.

On the last page it will be possible to do everything required settings group display on the site.

Installing a community block from Vk on a WordPress blog

Since my blog is powered by CMS (engine) WordPress, I will show by my own example the simplest way to implement this group information window in the sidebar of my blog.

This technology will work on all WordPress sites, and the widget itself can be displayed in any place convenient for you: basement (footer), header, article.

Go to admin panel site and select the "Widgets" tab. Of the available blocks, we are interested in the one called "Text" (arbitrary text or HTML code.), So we drag it to our sidebar.

Now if you go to the blog page, then your group from Vkontakte will be displayed in the sidebar.

By the way, you can edit the style settings directly from the code itself, if you look closely, you can see all the previously set parameters (width, height, color) there.

When configuring the VKontakte widget, intuitive variables are used. Basically, all you need to do is write in capital letters the value you want to substitute in the text, and enclose it in curly braces. Among those available in free edition parameters:

● surname;
● avatar;
● city;
● country;
● id.

Upon completion of all the manipulations, click on “View and install the widget” and confirm the choice. Then go back to “Management” -> “Applications” and select “All users” in the “Widget visibility” field.

Now, the home page will display a personalized greeting, but the designer button itself will remain hidden from prying eyes.

In addition to the standard module, the application supports the following widget configurations:

● tiles - displays vertical images with brief description;
● covers - shows up to three widescreen pictures with an interactive button;
● list and compact list - from 3 to 6 (in the premium version) text blocks with buttons;
● text - displays extensive text blocks;
● table - data in the form of a grid containing 1–6 rows and up to 4 columns;

The functionality of this constructor is more modest, however, it also has its own chips. Here we are only offered two variables:

● - the first and last name are displayed.

It is impossible to choose a declension, so adapt the message in advance for the nominative case. As for the layouts, in addition to the classic greeting, we have tiles, covers and a text block at our disposal. Calling the absence of tables and a grid of matches a disadvantage is not easy: such options are relevant only for certain niches. But the developers have provided the ability to display different inscriptions depending on the gender of the VKontakte user.

This is very convenient in those cases when you organize events timed to gender holidays, or, for example, you want to notify girls about the appearance of a new collection of women's clothing in an online store.

Another nice little thing is the counter of the number of characters, which we also did not see in the previous plugin: you could only learn about exceeding the specified limit after an unsuccessful attempt to save the text.

Another popular solution is SpyCat, which can be found in a lot of materials on SMM.
