Virtual reality has come a long way before finally getting into our gadgets in 2016. More precisely, remained last step- buy one of the devices that offer the opportunity to look at additional worlds.

One of these devices, in addition to the popular helmet Oculus Rift that made a splash on Kickstarter a few years ago, are glasses Homido Mini. And unlike a full-fledged virtual reality gaming helmet, this gadget is ten times more affordable. What can he offer us? Let's take a closer look.

Design and Experience

When it comes to enjoying virtual/augmented reality anywhere you want, and not just next to your computer or powerful laptop, it's hard to imagine a device simpler than Homido mini. Most VR headsets are designed like helmets that are secured with straps around your head. And this gadget is simply put on a smartphone. As if he suddenly lost his sight and the gadget urgently needed magnifying glasses with temples. All you need is glass. To see the screen split in two so that the brain perceives the picture in dynamic 3D. Just hold your smartphone at the level of your face as if holding binoculars to get a new experience.

A small pair of magnifying lenses are mounted inside a thick, durable plastic frame. Simple hinges and a serrated articulation system allow the goggles to fold in half and fit easily into a pocket.

The lenses are quite durable and allow for rough handling. They do not even fog up almost, and they can be used in the rain. Of course, if you do not worry about the smartphone itself. The worst thing that can happen is a scratch on the lens, but you still have to try to apply it.

The trick of the gadget is that it vertically cuts the smartphone display in half. Of course, the smartphone itself must have the appropriate software, which can be downloaded from playmarket or App Store.

The part that touches the screen is lined with rubber and is literally glued to the screen with a suction cup, promising not to scratch the screen. Homido Mini can be used with most medium to large smartphones. For instance, samsung galaxy Note 4, although Samsung Galaxy S6 was too thin for him. He simply cannot attach himself to it without additional support. So the device is more likely designed for earlier smartphones than for advanced flagships, which, as a rule, have very slim body and screen bezel. But this is not so important, because anyway, unlike most other virtual reality headsets, Homido Mini will have to be kept next to the smartphone by the user. Using all fingers, we hold the device, smartphone. And all this is at eye level, trying to comply with the conditions so that the gadget divides the screen in half, and does not crawl out onto the image separation line.

The manufacturer claims that the device is compatible with smartphones with screen sizes from 4 to 6 inches - that is, 90 percent of all modern smartphones on the market. But in practice, everything depends on the thickness of their cases. Leaving the same manufacturer's caveat, we can say that for users with glasses, this device is as convenient as for users without glasses. And here it is ahead of the competition, as the tightening straps of those simply do not leave enough distance to use virtual reality helmets with glasses.

The second plus is that such glasses constantly have access to air and simply do not fog up, as if they were in close contact with the user's skin.

And now a little about the shortcomings. Homido Mini has a huge negative impact on your sense of immersion in virtual reality. Holding the device with your fingers, constantly making sure that it does not slip beyond the marked contours, is an amateur occupation. Also, keeping the gadget constantly at eye level means that the hands get tired over time. Regardless of how much your smartphone weighs. Thirdly, the viewing angle is quite small, and peripheral vision, as a rule, is constantly distracted by the movement of objects around. But what is most offensive is that no additional controllers can be used when using these glasses. They just don't have enough hands. And without joysticks and control over actions, it all comes down to observation. So games are canceled, as are apps - you can only watch movies, clips and photos with a 360-degree view. Which are still less than games.

Also, if the smartphone has a screen resolution lower than Full HD, then with a close eye position to the screen and a magnifying effect of the lenses, it will be possible to consider each pixel. So the smaller they are, the worse the picture will be perceived.

We find the content for virtual reality in the App Store, Google Play or even YouTube, but so far these are not thousands or hundreds of results in the search bar, but only dozens. Most of them are demo files. Good things will cost you a certain amount.

Verdict

For $15 Device Homido Mini looks good. A gadget without frills, suitable for almost everyone, at the same time, it suits few people precisely because of the lack of a narrow specialization. In the ancient world there was such a saying: "a friend to everyone is a friend to no one." It characterizes this gadget in the best possible way. If you really want to try the beginnings of virtual reality, you can try, but in fact you will get bored in half an hour, and there is nothing to try yet. Applications where you can’t influence anything are already only half of virtual reality. There is no main factor - action. And without it, everything looks boring, uncomfortable, and you want to save up money for something more complete.

VR helmets are still perceived as something futuristic, but in reality it is quite available devices for every smartphone owner. Of course, there are very expensive models and even vr glasses. But we have dedicated this short review to one of the most available options– homido vr. This is the helmet with which to start your acquaintance with virtual reality.

Homido vr has similar features to the Fibrum helmet, but at a more affordable price. Both fall somewhere between the simplest Google Cardboard and almost perfect Samsung Gear VR. Now let's take a closer look at the Homido vr helmet.

Specifications

So what are the features and specifications Homido VR:

  1. The image is displayed on the smartphone screen
  2. Suitable for smartphones with a diagonal of 4 to 5.7 inches.
  3. Compatible with devices that support applications for working with VR helmets.
  4. The viewing angle is 100 degrees.
  5. It is possible to adjust the focal length.
  6. Rubberized straps.
  7. Weight 195 g.
  8. Adjustment of interpupillary distance is available. Vision will not deteriorate during operation.

Technical characteristics are not impressive, but for this money it is difficult to find something better. I am pleased with the light weight and the possibility fine tuning helmet. Meanwhile, to watch the video of Fibrum fit better due to the wider viewing angle.

What is in the box?

The box itself is quite compact, it contains all important information about the device, and in Russian! Inside you will find a handy pouch that you can use to carry your homido helmet. Despite the relatively low cost of the gadget, the manufacturer did not save on accessories.

Inside the case is the homido vr itself, a small wipe for helmet maintenance, a leaflet with up-to-date information and a user manual. Includes 3 pairs of lens holders. There is a spare foam nozzle.

Different lens holders are designed for users with different vision conditions. Holders are inserted inside for users with normal vision, there are options for far-sighted and near-sighted. For a complete set confident "5-ka".

Design

Unlike google cardboard, design has not become a cost savings item for homido vr. The helmet is a plastic box with straps, equipped with a comfortable foam nozzle and two lenses. The design is made in the spirit of minimalism, but the helmet looks quite nice.

Functional

Comfortable leather straps are customizable for each person, the helmet does not fall off and looks secure. In addition to several lens holders, there is a fine adjustment for vision. With the help of small wheels on the outside, you can adjust the picture to maximum clarity.

In the front there is a plastic clip for a smartphone. After fixing the smartphone in the compartment, there is no feeling that the smartphone is about to fall out, as is the case with other cheap helmets.

The homido virtual reality helmet does not use electricity in operation, everything is regulated mechanically. We will not find any functional buttons in it, all control will be carried out exclusively through a smartphone. For some, this is convenient, for some it is not, but this simplicity significantly expands the list of smartphones compatible with the helmet.

Applications

As mentioned above, the helmet control and video settings are carried out only through a smartphone. With Homido VR, you can use almost any application and play VR games designed for other helmets and goggles. For example, you can install programs for google cardboard and competitive Fibrum.

It is worth remembering that not all applications sync normally with this helmet, so you will have to use the “scientific poke method” or use special application- Homido Center (was replaced by the company with VR Center).

Homido Center contains a lot of VR content that is compatible with the Homido VR helmet. Extremely useful application which should be installed first.

Homido center

Homido Center cannot be called a VR application in the full sense of the word. Homido center is a directory where you can choose the applications that are suitable for your helmet. You can download it for both iOS and Android (the set of applications for these operating systems is different).

On the home page homido center you will see a set of recommended apps for homido vr. For the most part, these are small applications and demo games that will allow you to get acquainted with virtual reality. Runner games are very common. Often they need to run, collect coins and dodge obstacles. All control is exercised by the movements of the head. There are more interesting applications and videos that you should definitely check out.

The homido center menu is built quite conveniently. All content is divided into categories and it will not be difficult to find the game or application of interest. There is a heading "360°/3D photo and video". Everything is clear from the photo, but the video is very interesting. Through homido center, you can easily find a video that will completely immerse you in the atmosphere of virtual reality. For example, a 360-degree video allows you to be in a New York bar and look around, turning your head left and right.

Reviews on w3bsit3-dns.com for glasses Homido v2

I also knocked out a promo code from the developers for visitors to my site, which gives you a 10% discount on all Homido products:

What about bobo? This is not a bad helmet, of course, especially for the money, but homido is better)

In the "telephone" virtual reality for a long time everyone tried to dive, the most different ways- as the simplest, with Google Cardboard, and with the help of more expensive phone helmets / glasses. And many people know the products of the Homido company, which has always offered high-quality virtual reality glasses, however, a little more expensive than the average price range. First, let's watch a video review.

Now let's move on to the text.

Of course, in terms of build quality and materials, Homido products (as far as I remember, these are French) have competitors, and this is Samsung VR. However, do not forget that glasses from Korean developers are intended primarily for Samsung phones, and only with them fully reveal their potential. But glasses from Homido are compatible with large quantity smartphones, which they write to us right on the box.

However, if your smartphone is not on this list, then it's okay - any devices from 4.5 to 5.7 "with an accelerometer and gyroscope are optimally supported, and in general the size of supported smartphones is from 4.2 to 6". Traditionally, the box also has a listing of what these glasses are designed for. However, we already know all about it.

The delivery set of virtual reality glasses is unusually rich. Traditionally, manufacturers put in the box only the glasses themselves and a cloth for wiping the lenses, there is also a replaceable face pad, and, most importantly, a case for carrying glasses. It will come in handy if you are going to carry a virtual machine with you.

The case is made very well, it can be thrown into a suitcase or backpack without any problems, nothing will happen to it. It also has a mesh in order to add a variety of little things: flash drives, business cards, and the like.

The virtual reality glasses themselves are well made: a shiny front surface (although it’s not very convenient to photograph and film it, but these are such very local problems), which will reflect the curious who tries to look at you, a nice matte plastic top cover. At the same time, this front panel is transparent from the inside, which allows the use of glasses in the field of augmented reality.

To adjust the distance between the screen and the lenses, a wheel is provided (in fact, it adjusts the sharpness).

You can also adjust the interocular distance using the wheel located at the bottom. Pay attention to the foam rubber that adheres to the face: despite the fact that it does not look very nice, it is very soft, and this is the main thing.

Straps are quick-detachable, mounted on special latches. At the same time, they do not accidentally fly off.

This is what the latch looks like half open.

The length of the straps can be adjusted, the fittings are good.

At the back, the straps are fastened with a durable plastic buckle.

The cover of the holder is held on magnets, it can be opened by simply pulling it slightly, while spontaneous opening does not occur.

This silver button is also interesting.

If you press it, then a rubber “stud” comes forward - a magnet protected rubber boot. If some action is programmed in the application to trigger a magnetic sensor or touch the screen in a certain place, then it will happen. It can be play, pause, or, for example, a shot.

We open virtual reality glasses and see such fasteners on spring “legs”. Also pay attention to the QR code - it is intended for auto tuning glasses parameters, for example in Google apps Cardboard, or in the same Youtube.

My OnePlus 3T fits the glasses well, there is enough space for a slightly larger smartphone.

The lenses in the Homido virtual reality glasses are large and bright. According to the developers, the viewing angle is 105 degrees - this is a lot compared to almost any other analogues. However, it is worth remembering that it is the smartphone that has the main influence on the image quality inside virtual reality. So, you need it with a screen of at least FullHD, and preferably 4K resolution, so as not to be disappointed.

When installed, the smartphone is very clearly fixed inside the helmet / goggles. There is a mark for centering the phone.

The glasses themselves made a very good impression. Comfortable, not very heavy, they sit comfortably on the face, with adjustments not only for the distance from the lenses to the screen, but also for the distance between the lenses. With prolonged use, the lenses do not fog up, the ventilation is well thought out.

Another interesting feature of these virtual reality glasses is that its developers make special software for it. Of course, it will also work in virtual reality glasses from other manufacturers, but everything is optimized for Homido devices.

Homido Center and Homido VR Player seemed to me the most valuable. The first is a selected catalog of programs that are written for virtual reality glasses. The programs are all good, no special garbage was noticed. There are categories for the types of games (strategy, slides, simulators, and others), there is an application rating, and it also indicates whether this program is paid or free. At the same time, programs are downloaded from Google Play market or from the AppStore if you have an iPhone.

Homido Player is just a normal video player for watching 360 degree videos. Convenient, there are many screen settings for different glasses and video files.

Another interesting thing is that there is an application for the Homido 360 camera, which allows you to stream 360-degree video directly from the camera to your phone and control it to the video camera. In my opinion, a very interesting thing, but we will test it later.

Total

In my opinion, Homido second version is worth the money. Actually, this is so much.

Of course, you can always find something cheaper (and in the end, get by with a cardboard, where ours has not disappeared), but I probably have no complaints about these glasses. They are really comfortable, well made, with an interesting design, made of quality materials. Well, the complete case is very convenient.
