The ZTE Nubia N1 Lite smartphone is a budget novelty. ZTE Nubia N1 preview

Scared of the substitution

Taking the parcel from the post office, I was surprised that it was light enough. And this despite the fact that the smartphone has a 5k battery. The suspicion crept in that the phone was changed. Six months ago, I already had a negative practice, when I ordered two Letv x600, and Doogee x5 came and some other noun. Then there was the NL mail and now. At home, I made an unboxing on the camera, you never know what - everything is fine. The cherished Nubia letters on the smartphone box reassured me. Opened. The package bundle is standard: cable, charging, documentation, a needle for removing the SIM card slot, and of course the smartphone itself.

Without the "WOW!"

There were no disappointments, but in my heart I wanted to see a "fairy tale", although I understood that there would be no miracle in Nubia for $ 240. First thought: "looks like Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro". Twisted and turned in his hands. I think no. This one is better. Branded red circles on the front (touch-button "home") and around the camera do their job. The phone is heavy enough. Front 2.5D glass, chrome bezel around the screen. Bottom: The speaker is on the right, but the casing slots are symmetrical on either side of the USB Type-C port. The cover is non-removable metal, with plastic strips on the top and bottom, most likely, so as not to jam the signal of the antennas. Yes: camera, solid color flash, scanner fingerprint and Nubia lettering at the bottom in dark gray paint. Damn, is it so difficult to squeeze out these letters, and not draw. Come on…

The device booted up and the quality of the display immediately caught my eye. I immediately recognized the screen with a better quality, since I had a Nubia Z5s Mini several years ago. Deep blacks, good rich color reproduction and contrast. Yes - this is Nubia. It looks like the matrix here is from Sharp / JDI.

Shell

The smartphone runs on Android 6.0 with a proprietary nubia UI 4.0 shell. Everything is smooth, without stuttering. There is no application menu, they are all installed on main screen... You can choose Russian or Ukrainian languages as well as many others. Russian is translated more fully than Ukrainian, but the translation of the latter is sufficient for comfortable use.

There is Play Market out of the box is good, as a smartphone for the Chinese market. Installed apps from Nubia neoShare, App Center, Theme Manager, nubiaShop, nubia Park. They are sewn, they cannot be cut without Root-rights. There are also about two dozen applications, which are popularly called "Chinese". They can be removed without any problem. Quick menu (shutter) standard for Android smartphones... Also, if you swipe to the left from the desktop, the pumped functions of photographing effects for the camera will be available.

Interests and features

The Nubia N1 smartphone has an interesting menu item “Surface movement”. In it, you can turn on the function of controlling the machine by the extreme edges. For example, tapped twice in the upper left edge - went back one step. Or drew along the right edge - raised / lowered the brightness. Using different gestures, you can launch applications, take screenshots and take pictures. Very comfortably.

There is also an advanced function for screenshots and screen video recording. Screenshots can be made curly, you can adjust the square and screenshot the entire page to the bottom. The quality of video recording from the screen is adjustable. I liked it, because everything is there from the box and you don't need to look for a suitable program.

Now let's move on to the comments. When connected, a firmware update arrived immediately. But it was not possible to establish it. Writes no place on the SD card, lol. And this despite the fact that the device has 64 gigabytes of internal memory. That is, to update you need a memory card in your phone. Another problem is related to the inability to delete or add another Google account. There is a solution. You need to add and remove through the Gmail app.

Another drawback is the speaker. Works very mediocre. It is enough for a call, but listening to music through it is not very good.

I would like to note the work of the scanner. Reads very quickly.

Camera

There is no miracle. Although I may be comparing photos from many top smartphones and at the same time is not entirely objective. In general, the photos are good. Lathers in low light. Evening photography wants to be the best.

But the front camera takes good quality photos. For selfie lovers, what you need.

Front camera shots:

The camera interface has sections: "Family camera" with a set of effects that are available when you swipe from the main screen, Time-lapse, PRO, Photo, Video, SLO-MO, Panorama. In PRO mode, there are advanced functions for customizing photos. Interestingly, photographs can be taken while focusing on a particular element. The unit focuses and automatically takes pictures.

Outcome

Calls, GPS, Bluetooth, 3G work perfectly and flawlessly, so I didn't stop at these functions.

I liked the smartphone. The quality of the display, 64 built-in memory, and a sufficiently capacious battery (5000 mAh), which is not often found in smartphones of top brands of this form factor, captivates. The autonomy in the smartphone is very high. Considering that the Nubia N1 cost me $ 145, for that kind of money you can use it without grief. At the time of this writing, the price of the device is about $ 230.

Hello everyone!
Today the review will be devoted to a new smartphone from ZTE, or rather from its sub-brand Nubia. The announcement of this model took place back in February 2017 at MWC 2017, and became available to buyers a little later, in March. The new Nubia N1 Lite belongs to the budget segment with all that it implies. It has the following features: 5.5-inch screen with 2.5D, 3000 mAh battery, fingerprint scanner, dual SIM cards, support for 2G / 3G / 4G networks, etc. We'll talk more about this and everything else later in the review.

This is my first acquaintance with phones from ZTE and Nubia in particular, so I have not yet had any positive or negative experience from using their devices. Detailed reviews As well as normal information about the device I could not find on the Internet, there is also no page on the w3bsit3-dns.com forum. I’ll have to figure it out on my own, I hope I will not miss important points in the review and will cover the topic completely. Well, let's start our acquaintance with the N1 Lite by studying the technical characteristics declared by the manufacturer:

Packaging and delivery set
The package was sent by Singapore post and reached me without incident in 18 days. A completely standard white bag arrived, the contents inside were wrapped in several layers of protective bubble wrap. I did not take pictures of all this, I think there is nothing interesting here. Along with the phone, the seller also sent a simple silicone case.

The device is delivered in a small white box made of thick cardboard, which, by the way, was sealed in film. Those. no one has touched the contents before me. On the front side of the box, we are greeted by the Nubia brand logo.

On the back you can find very short technical features product and other information.

There is nothing special or outstanding in the kit. Still, we must not forget that our model is budgetary and the manufacturer must save on everything. The box contains the following:
- The phone itself,
- cable for charging microUSB,
- Charger,
- User manual and warranty card.
Unfortunately, there is no simple headset or headphones, they are less and less put in a set with a phone.

A charger with a European plug, so you don't have to fiddle with adapters. Judging by the characteristics at the output, we have 5V / 1.5A, I’ll tell you not enough. A quick verification test showed that in reality it is - 1.5A, if you load it with a little more current, then the voltage immediately drops to an unusable 3.3V. Considering that the declared capacity of the battery is 3000 mAh, the phone will not charge quickly, and besides, there is no support for fast charging.

The complete cable is only 70 cm long, the charge current of 1.5A from the native charging passes without special voltage drops. Suitable for use, but if desired, you can replace it, good cable now you can buy at a fairly affordable price.

Appearance
Next, let's look directly at the phone itself. Taking it out of the box, we see that it is covered with protective, transport films. We get rid of them immediately, because they will interfere with the normal use of the gadget.

And of course, do not forget to remove the film from the eye of the main camera!

Looking at the device, you can immediately understand that we have another black rectangle in front of us. The design is not original, it is quite familiar to modern smartphones, is devoid of any unusual chips or features. The body is made of black matte plastic, the structure of the surface is similar to sandpaper-zero. In addition, a thin gold-colored metal edging can be seen on the obverse. I hope the paint will not come off it like it does with many other devices different brands(In particular, for Samsung). The dimensions of the smartphone are as follows: length 153.1 mm, width 77.4 mm and thickness 8.5 mm. The weight is 172.9 grams. In principle, it is okay to hold the phone in your hand, except that the width is not entirely comfortable. Due to the fact that the surface of the plastic is rough, and the edges are not rounded, but flat, the device does not tend to fall out or slide off. What can not be said when worn in a silicone case, in the summertime your hands sweat and the slippery case just wants to slip out of your hands.

The front side is occupied by a 5.5-inch HD display, a selfie camera with a 5 megapixel flash, light and proximity sensors, a light indicator and an earpiece. There are no physical or touch buttons, the bottom is just empty space.

The indicator is made in the form of a small luminous point, when charging up to 90% it lights up in red, from 90 to 100% the color already changes to green. It also signals a discharged battery, at 15% it starts to shine red, thereby informing us that it is necessary to recharge the device. And when you receive notifications, no matter what, be it SMS or messages from social applications, it flashes green.

The back side, as already mentioned, is completely plastic. It does not collect fingerprints or other stains on itself, which is undoubtedly a plus for the N1 lite model. There is a Nubia brand logo.

It also houses: the main camera of 8 megapixels, a dual flash, a fingerprint sensor or another fingerprint scanner, as well as a hole for a second microphone and a grid of the main speaker.

On the right side are placed: a volume rocker, as well as a power button. They are pressed lightly, the stroke is short and soft. The left side is devoid of any interfaces.

The top edge is occupied by a lone headphone jack, a 3.5 mm audio jack. This is the location of the audio jack that I like the most. On the bottom, you can find an input for charging microUSB and a hole for a microphone.

The back cover can be removed by hooking it on the lower right edge.

Under it are, firstly, slots for SIM cards. The phone supports two micro SIM cards, and only one of them can be used as an Internet connection and support for 3G / 4G. After we assign the SIM card as the main one, the second will work only in 2G mode. There is also a separate slot for a microSD memory card. The manufacturer claims support up to 32 GB, but in reality the smartphone easily coped with a 64 GB card. Perhaps there is support for large volumes, but I did not have such available. I note that two independent slots for SIM cards and a memory card is the second significant plus, for some reason many manufacturers make a combined slot, thereby limiting the choice either in favor of two SIM cards, or one, but with a memory card. And here we can take advantage of all the "benefits" to the fullest, especially since there is support for hot measurements of both)).

Removing the back cover, we can also see that we have a non-removable battery, its capacity is declared as 3000 mAh. Whether this is so, I will try to find out, but a little later.

The case that the seller has put separately sat on the phone perfectly. All openings for microphones, jacks are available, there are also specially made hard buttons from the end.

Display
The Nubia N1 Lite is equipped with a display from Sharp, with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels and a diagonal of 5.5 inches. Completed by IPS technology, 2.5D and has no air gap between the sensor and the sensor (OGS). The pixel density is 267ppi, which is not enough for such a large screen, but in the process practical use, no graininess was noticed with the naked eye. The pixels can of course be seen if you really want to, yet this is not a FullHD display. The margin of brightness is decent, as is the readability of the screen in general. In the daytime, under the sun's rays, the picture on the display fades, but you can still distinguish what is on it.

The viewing angles are maximum, the color rendition is not distorted except when looking at the screen at an angle in the diagonal. Then the colors are slightly inverted into cold or warm tones. You can clearly see this in the photo below.

The screen is not deprived of a good oleophobic coating, fingerprints are easily erased. The test with a drop of water was passed successfully, it does not spread across the screen, but rolls along it without leaving traces. Everything seems to be good, but there is also a fly in the ointment in this barrel of honey, this is the absence of a protective layer. The surface of the display can be easily scratched if you carry the phone for a couple of days in your pocket with small change and other junk. It would be better if the seller, instead of a silicone case, put a protective film or glass.

Multi-touch for 10 touches, which is not bad at all for a state employee. And besides standard settings images have an additional feature called MiraVision. Allows you to customize the image displayed on the screen in more detail for your requests, or use existing profiles.

Example with disabled and enabled dynamic contrast.

Communication and wireless interfaces
The smartphone supports 2G, 3G and 4G networks. European frequencies, including those used in Russia for 4G Band 20 and Band 40. This is not surprising because the device with global firmware and is focused on the European market.
Supported frequencies:
4G: FDD TDD-LTE Band 1/3/7/5/8/20/40
3G: WCDMA 850/900 / 2100MHz
2G: GSM 850/900/1800 / 1900MHz
The connection is confident, I did not notice any problems during the use of the phone, the interlocutor heard me well, just like me. The volume of the earpiece is at an average level. I don’t know what it’s connected with, but Nubia holds the 4th generation network better than my main phone, where Xiaomi mi4S switches to 2G Nubia N1 Lite continues to work in 4G.

The Wi-fi module only works at 2.4GHz, 5GHz does not. Signal reception did not raise any questions, when compared with other devices it catches it at about the same level.

Only one type of global positioning is available for navigation - GPS. In open areas, it catches about 8-10 satellites. The cold start took about 2 minutes, subsequent navigation starts were accompanied by more quick search satellites. During the test trip, communication with them was not lost. At the window in a closed room, of course, he sees a smaller number of satellites, in my case there were 7-8 of them. There is a magnetic compass. In addition, there is Bluetooth version 4.1 and FM radio.

OS and interface
The device works in the operating room Android system 6.0 Marshmallow with proprietary Nubia Ui 3.0 graphic shell. The OS version is still up-to-date, but not the most recent, as well as the graphical shell. In appearance, this is almost a naked android, the shell appears, as it seems to me, a kind of theme. At the time of writing the review, no updates have been found, whether they will be known at all. Out of the box there is support for normal Russian, no translated places or Chinese are not noticed.

Stock apps from android 6.

Applications Music, Dictaphone, Radio are also standard without visual changes. The rear speaker has an average volume and does not wheeze when listening at maximum volume. But the sound quality itself is on the C grade, the sound is flat and some kind of metallic.

The fingerprint scanner settings look pretty standard. Before assigning a fingerprint to unlock the screen, you must set a password, pin code or pattern key... After that, a menu opens with the addition of prints, which you can save five different. In addition, in addition to the standard function of unlocking the screen, a fingerprint can be assigned to any file or application. When you launch such a file or application, a window will be displayed asking you to enter a code or raise your finger to unlock. The fingerprint scanner works very quickly, the response time is less than a second. The percentage of successful unlocks is 8 out of 10, which I think is a good result.

From interesting features I can note that this is the ability to set the time to turn on and off the smartphone, as well as Turbo mode... When this mode is turned on, both wi-fi and mobile transmission data to speed up the process of downloading large files.

The smartphone has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory. For the user of these 16GB, only 11.14GB is available, the rest is occupied by the system. If necessary, you can expand the internal storage using microSD cards. In my case, I checked the 64GB card, the phone saw it without any problems.

There is also support for OTG, i.e. connection external storage through a special adapter.

Camera
The Nubia N1 Lite is equipped with two camera modules, a 5MP front with interpolation up to 8MP (with a maximum image resolution of 2160 by 3840) and a back 8MP with interpolation up to 13MP (4864 by 2736). Both cameras have flashes, the front one with one LED, and the rear one with two, but without the division into cold and warm tones. The camera is not the strongest point of this smartphone. If in the daytime at good lighting the pictures are even more or less normal, then at night - the picture is blurred and it is difficult to bring focus.

Examples of pictures taken with the main camera:

No HDR

In principle, the main camera shoots well in macro mode (7-8 cm minimum distance to the object), satisfactorily in the daytime. The front camera for selfies in good light also takes normal pictures, especially since there is a flash, which also contributes.
As for the video, it shoots it at a maximum resolution of 1280x720 pixels (HD) in 3gp format, 30 frames per second. The quality of the shooting leaves much to be desired, an example can be seen below.

Hardware and performance (iron)
The smartphone works on a not new, but many well-known processor from MediaTek MTK6737 with 4 cores and a frequency of 1.3 GHz. Responsible for the graphics Mali-T720MP2 with a frequency of 650MHz. It is not necessary to call this processor super-productive, it can be more attributed to the middle or even lower middle class. It has been installed in many budget phones since mid-2016. With the device configuration that we have, it will not be possible to play some demanding modern games. Normally you can play something like Subway Surf, Asphalt 8 (at medium settings). More demanding World of Tanks Blits runs only at low settings with an average frame rate of 35-38fps.

Epic citadel

The phone boasts a good set of sensors:
- Accelerometer,
- Light sensor,
- Orientation sensor,
- Proximity sensor,
- Magnetometer (magnetic compass),

Autonomy
The device has a 3000 mAh lithium-polymer battery, well, at least that's what the manufacturer says. The battery is not removable, so it will not be possible to estimate its dimensions and weight. In order to check what its real capacity is, I waited until the phone was completely discharged and turned off. After that, without turning on the phone, I put it on charging through the ZKEtech tester. As you can see from the graph, the charge current at its maximum was at around 1.4A at 5V. Unfortunately, there is no support for fast charging, I checked it with a charger that supports MTK-PE (fast charging protocol for MediaTek processors). In total, 2910 mAh was poured into the battery in 3 hours 6 minutes. Moreover, I would like to note that the phone takes the main capacity (about 2300 mAh) in the first hour and a half of charging, then the current gradually decreases. Well, from the test it is clear that the manufacturer did not lie and the device has a 2900-3000 mAh battery (taking into account losses during testing).

With active use: this is a constantly switched on Internet (wi-fi), about 15 calls with a total duration of more than 30 minutes, some games and Internet surfing, a couple of dozen photos, the phone lasted about 24 hours, the screen worked for 7 hours in total. Decent result, with moderate use of the smartphone, I think it will live 1.5 days without problems.

The test to continue scrolling videos from youtube in 720p resolution lasted exactly 7 hours. Screen brightness was set to 50%, volume at maximum. Of course, the video clip is not so dynamic, but in general it will go for a general assessment. Watching two movies in 720p should be enough

In the PCMark test at 50% brightness, the result is 7 hours and 29 minutes.

Conclusion
Advantages:
+ Good screen with a large margin of brightness, oleophobic coating and wide viewing angles, multi-touch 10 touches.
+ Support for 3G / 4G networks with all European frequencies. Confident reception of cellular communication.
+ Independent slots for two SIM cards and a memory card. 2 sim cards + memory card.
+ Autonomy, up to 7 hours of screen operation
+ European charger with normal plug,
+ Smart fingerprint scanner,
+ Adequate navigation (GPS),
+ Flash of the front camera

Disadvantages:
- Weight and dimensions,
- Mediocre main camera,
- Absent fast charging,
- No protective layer on the display (anti-scratch)

ZTE has announced a new mobile phone, which interested us primarily in the duration autonomous work... Today, almost every middle-class product or even flagships have a small, but very unpleasant problem - the battery only lasts for a day. That is, you take off the charge in the morning, and in the evening you need to put the gadget back, since the battery cannot withstand active use. Have smartphone ZTE Nubia N1 shouldn't have such problems - the manufacturer installed a 5000 mAh battery here and this should be enough even for those who want to play modern shooters over the network. Although, of course, in this case, the phone will be discharged in six hours. Today we will take a closer look at this gadget and decide for ourselves it is worth its money and whether the volumetric battery is enough to attract the consumer. However, there are tons of options on the market with similar advantages that are not popular.

Filling

The basis of performance mobile phone a processor called MediaTek Helio P10 is taken. it new model, you should have seen it in mid-range smartphones, the processor is built on a 64-bit architecture and runs on eight processing cores with a clock speed of 2.0 gigahertz. I hope everyone understands that this smartphone will be able to run any game that you can only find on the Internet on Android. We won't even talk about high-definition movies and other entertaining stuff, and everything is clear. The performance of the mobile phone will be supported by 3 gigabytes of RAM. This is enough to ensure that your smartphone does not experience any problems with applications running in the background. You can store personal content on the built-in 64 gigabyte drive, if this is not enough for you, you can put a memory card of the same size.

Case design

The smartphone is presented in two body colors - silver and gold. It is worth noting that many on the web have found a lot of similarities between this product and the iPhone mobile phone. On the front panel, which by the way is white, there is only a touch key Home, a display, a camera and a speaker with sensors. The back side merges with the side edges, there are two dividing stripes. Here is the main camera, which protrudes slightly from the body, flash, fingerprint sensor and company logo. Looks expensive, but it really looks a bit like the iPhone 6.

Bonuses

A huge advantage of the smartphone is the display - with a diagonal of 5.5 inches, its resolution is 1920 by 1080 pixels, the matrix is built using IPS technology with wide viewing angles and realistic color reproduction. We should also praise the 13 megapixel camera with excellent video quality. Now this is a rather important function, since everything is filmed in large volumes. The smartphone works, by the way, on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system with the proprietary shell Nubia UI 4.0 - the manufacturer does not dare to abandon its proprietary appearance.

Outcome

Now let's talk about the cost of a cell phone. For 250 bucks you get quite a modern gadget with a powerful processor that can easily handle any tasks, enough RAM, a high-quality display and a camera, modern operating system and the ability to enjoy all these benefits for a long time. You won't be able to find something similar from LG or Samsung, keep in mind. So the smartphone has a very clear chance of success.
