Meizu m2 - Specifications. Meizu M2 Mini: review, specifications and reviews of Meizu M2 Mini maximum message size reached

And after 6 months, the hero of our review arrives on the shelves - the model Meizu M2... Why was it so fast for the manufacturer to update the line while visually distinguishing these two brothers is quite difficult? The thing is that these "brothers" differ in themselves not only in cost, but also in their positioning by the company.

Appearance and features

Some of the controls have slightly changed since the first version. But by sight Meizu M2 remained as attractive as its predecessor. The glossy plastic case is pleasant to the touch, although it slips a little, which may result in the gadget falling.

Feature Meizu M2 is the ability to use two SIM (Micro and Nano). In this case, instead of the latter, you can insert a micro SD memory card. This is quite specific, but it is practiced even among eminent manufacturers (Samsung and Huawei).

In general, the smartphone leaves a pleasant impression. But what if we hit the power button?

Display, filling

Turning on the smartphone immediately catches the eye with a large display with a diagonal of 5 ". Its resolution is 1280x720 pixels. This figure is quite enough for a clear display of information on the screen without a hint of pixelation.

The internal stuffing of the smartphone is as follows:

1. Processor - Mediatek MT6735, 4 cores at 1.3 GHz, 64-bit architecture;
2. RAM - 2 GB;
3. Video processor - Mali T720 MP3, frequency 450 MHz.

Drawing a conclusion from the above parameters, we can say that this gadget has “organs” inside it, which are typical for smartphones of the middle price class.

It is worth noting that the gadget is equipped with internal memory of 16 and 32 GB, which is very pleasing against the background of the possibility of expansion. On this volume, you can save not only films, games, but also photo and video materials made by one of the built-in cameras. The main one is equipped with a 13 megapixel matrix, and the front one is 5 megapixels.

Performance and battery

The device is running Android 5.1. with proprietary Flyme OS shell. The manufacturer says that such a solution completely eliminates performance drawdowns, which are surprisingly quite high (benchmarks give indicators close to high).

The battery of the gadget, to be honest, is not designed for long-term autonomy. For a 5 ”display, the 2500 mAh supply is frankly small. With average activity, the battery lasts only 15-18 hours.

Competitors and results

Surprisingly, competitors have Meizu M2 not so much. If we take smartphones that are within +/- $ 10, then there are no worthy competitors at all. The lower price category is not even worth attention, and among the more expensive models are ASUS Zenfone 2 ZE500CL, Lenovo S60, Xiaomi MI3.

Generally speaking, the workmanship of the gadget is very good. Photos, videos, application processing speed and display are all on top for the price point of the device. As a result, we can say that Meizu M2 worth the money that the manufacturer asks for it.

A simplified version of the Meizu M2 Note smartphone has attachment Mini, but the language does not turn at all to call the 5-inch device "baby".

Price quality

Meizu M2 Mini is one of best models in terms of price-quality ratio. It is equipped with a productive, as for devices of the budget segment, the MediaTek 6582 processor (4 cores at 1.3 GHz) and has 2 GB of RAM. In synthetic tests, this bundle gives good performance results (31,000 points in AnTuTu). Paired with an HD-resolution display, the "filling" provides smooth operation interface and no lags. Android 5.1 OS is covered with its own Flyme shell. Its main distinguishing feature is the absence of a menu as such - all shortcuts and applications are placed on desktops.

Control

Smartphone control is realized through the touch interface, as well as the "Home" key and the input of various gestures. Many people fall in love with the "Home" button the first time - it is both mechanical (a strong press returns to the home desktop) and touch (a light touch allows you to go back one position). Sign language has a developed structure and allows you to perform a lot of manipulations with the touch of one finger.

Memory

The model has a 16 GB drive on board, of which approximately 11.5 GB is available to the user. You can expand the memory, but for this you have to sacrifice one of the two SIM-cards - the memory card slot is combined with a SIM-card. But you won't be able to remove the battery at all - the back cover of the gadget is non-removable and there is no access to the 2500 mAh battery. In active mode, the charge is enough for a day of use.

Photo

The phone's camera is missing stars from the sky: when good lighting the main 13-megapixel module with a maximum aperture of f / 2.2 produces a good picture, but if you start taking pictures in low light conditions, the quality of the photo drops. The front module is equipped with a 5-megapixel sensor and has software "buns" for improving selfies.

Worthy

Ultimately, a smartphone from Meizu can offer a set of decent specs for a reasonable price. It will be the choice for those who are looking for a budget device that can cope with everyday tasks 100%.

Meizu M2 Mini - compact smartphone budget class. The device got a lot of modern functions and youth design. It was introduced in July 2015.

Appearance and ergonomics

Smartphone Meizu M2 Mini got a rectangular polycarbonate case. Sloped corners are complemented by beveled edges. Thanks to the special polishing and multi-level processing, the device is really comfortable to hold in the hand. The entire front panel is covered with Dragontrail tempered glass from AGC. Below the display is an oval-shaped mTouch mechanical button that recognizes pressing force. There is a corporate logo on the back, as well as a camera peephole and a flash. At the bottom there is not only a USB connector, but also a multimedia speaker and microphone. But the upper edge has only a 3.5 mm headphone port. The assembly is very high quality, there are no unnecessary squeaks. Inside is a 2500 mAh battery. Available colors: white, pink, gray and blue. Dimensions: height - 140.1 mm, thickness - 8.7 mm, width - 68.9 mm, weight - 131 g.

Display

The M2 Mini has a 5-inch full laminated screen. This IPS-matrix received an HD-resolution of 1280x720 pixels, and also has an increased contrast. There is no air gap, which guarantees a vivid and vibrant image. There is an effective anti-glare filter that effectively fights bright sunlight. Although the viewing angles are maximum, the colors start to distort.

Iron and performance

M2 Mini is powered by MTK MT6735 quad-core processor with a maximum frequency of 1300 MHz. The graphics chip is Mali T720. Thanks to MediaTek CorePilot technology, graphic and central processing unit function in a single bundle, which has a beneficial effect on productivity. An operating theater is installed here. Android system 5.1, and there is also a Flyme OS 4.5 shell. The user can count on 2 GB of RAM. There is also 16 GB of built-in Samsung memory EMMC 5.0, which features high-speed performance. The device supports MicroSD cards up to 128 GB. In the AnTuTu test this model gains over 27,000 points. Yes, you can't play demanding games on it, but everyday tasks will be solved successfully and quickly.

Communication and sound

In headphones, the sound of Meizu M2 Mini is complete delight. Here you can only find fault with the volume margin, but otherwise everything is fine with the sound. The multimedia speaker is also not distinguished by "sonorous singing", but the melodies sound quite clear. The interlocutor is heard quite normally. The device supports two SIM cards, both of which are capable of working in 4G networks.

Camera

The main camera in Meizu M2 Mini is 13 megapixel. There is a flash and aperture ratio of 2.2. The camera received an excellent white balance, the photos are full of bright colors and excellent detail. Of course, all this applies to daytime shooting, since the quality of frames deteriorates noticeably in the evening. Videos are recorded in FHD format. There is also a 5-megapixel front camera with useful function FotoNation 2.0.

conclusions

The M2 Mini seems to be a very good buy, because this inexpensive device has good cameras, a wonderful screen, high-quality sound and good stuffing at its disposal. Add to this the compact size and cute appearance that young people will surely like.

Pros:

  • Two good cameras.
  • Very decent autonomy.
  • Support for two SIM cards and LTE.
  • Miniature dimensions and nice design.
  • Really juicy display.

Minuses:

  • Prints remain on the screen.
  • You won't be able to play with maximum graphics.

Video reviews

I have been interested in the M mini line for a long time, but I did not order the first version, tk. only Gsm networks work in Russia, and now it is completely sad. But here's how the second generation was announced with support for Wcdma and Lte-fdd, I definitely decided for myself! I take it!

The second generation M2 mini, it received a slightly weaker processor, but now it works perfectly in Russian frequencies, and also acquired a mechanical button.

Completion and appearance

The device is packed in a thin square box with a minimum number of inscriptions, complete minimalism. It looks nice and pleasant.

Inside, you will not find a lot, a phone, an instruction manual, a data cable, a plug and a paper clip.

The device itself looks nice, my device is white, it seems like gray looks even better, well, at least that's what they say.
Also, the white version is glossy and slippery, despite the fact that it fits comfortably in the hand, it still strives to slip out.

There are no complaints about the assembly, everything is assembled just fine, the lid is not removable, there are no backlashes, nothing creaks and does not stick out anywhere. Here is a solid 5+!

The main button was replaced with a mechanical one, which has 2 functions: Press - home, tap (touch) on the button - back. There is no menu button, but over the entire period of operation, I practically did not have moments when it was needed.
The very same mechanical button shares the opinion of the people, some people like it, some just the opposite. Personally, I really liked it, and I quickly got used to it.

The button is plastic and has a chrome rim.

Perhaps you could immediately notice the gap between the case and the screen under the button, no, this was not the device that was, initially everything was fine, I just used it for the first week with an old cable from another phone, but for some reason it was very tightly inserted and removed from phone, which is why it happened :(
So from the first days it is better to use only your own charging cable.

On the left are the power button and volume rocker.
They sit well, do not hang out, the only thing is that they have too easy pressing, they could have done a little tighter, but this is nit-picking.
There is nothing on the right side.

Top only 3.5mm headphone jack

Bottom 1 microphone, micro-usb input, external speaker.

Rear main camera and 1 LED flash

Front Sensors, front camera and earpiece

Screen

The resolution is 1280x720 pixels, which is quite optimal for 5 inches.
For some reason, many complain about the screen, although I did not see anything wrong with it, this is an ordinary medium-cheap IPS that lacks stars from the sky, but at the same time it is not bullshit. The picture is juicy, the stock of brightness is enough, you can use the device on a sunny day, the viewing angles are almost maximum, color distortions only at very large angles, especially in dark colors, they start to turn yellow.

The screen itself is covered with not the coolest glass (the glass did not burn), but it is quite normal, it has a not very good oleophobic coating, but I did not have any problems with scrubbing the stained glass.

Viewing angles

Performance and technical component

For a state employee, it has a typical filling in the form of MTK6735 and 2 gigs of RAM.

The processor is not truncated; for most tasks, both the processor and the amount of memory are enough for the eyes.

Even when choosing a balanced option (there is still High performance) in anttu, it gives out: ~ 27,000 parrots

When working with desktops, menus and other microlags, I did not notice.
In terms of toys, well, there were 6735 chasing and more than once who could, they play really demanding games, otherwise they pull without any problems.

Operating system and uptime

The device works on Android 5 and with Flyme OS shell.
Here you can write a separate review about it, this is really a full-fledged shell for the phone, not like Doogee or any similar comrades, they take the Naked Android, change the icons to disgusting ones, put a few little things and voila! Doogee OS!
NO! Here EVERYTHING has really been redesigned, or almost everything, because it is not the first day that devices have been producing maize and they were able not only to create, but also to optimize and polish it.

She herself leaves a positive impression, despite the fact that it has its drawbacks, although some of them are governed by various crutches, in general, it is a solid and pleasant shell.

Now there are some problems with Russian, initially it is not there, i.e. only English, Chinese and a few more languages, they promise to officially return soon.

At the moment there are 3 options:
1) Ask to put Russian from the Chinese, they usually ask about 3 bucks for this, when updating / resetting, Russian will fly off.
2) Put MoreLocale 2 + several files from 4pd, Russify almost everything, just when updating / resetting, Russian will fly off. (I chose this option)
3) Use the device in English and wait until the maze is officially returned to the Russian firmware.

System screens

Working hours

Here the device surprised me very pleasantly, in general I thought it would be something like most Chinese people in this price range, i.e. every evening - recharging, but everything turned out to be much better.
Of course, if you wish, you can plant it in half a day.

Basically, I had about 35% -45% left by the end of the day.
There is nothing special about using: about 30 minutes of calls, up to an hour of Internet surfing, 1-2 hours of Internet radio and every little thing like a camera, in contacts, vibers and so on in a small amount.
Wifi and GPS are always on, the screen brightness is automatic.

Camera

Main camera 13MP f2 / 2 5 lenses from Samsung.
This is an honest 13 megapixel, no interpolation.
At its price, it shoots well, devices in the same price category are clearly inferior in all respects.

First of all, I would like to note the software for which any closest competitors simply nervously smoke on the sidelines. Auto, manual settings(white balance \ exposure compensation \ exposure up to 10 sec \ focal length), qr scanner, slow motion and all sorts of more familiar ones like portrait, panorama, etc.

In good light, the pictures are good, although they lack a little contrast.
The focus is fast.

Some more photos

Pretty good macro shots are also obtained, it is best to take them with manual mode, otherwise with auto it can be difficult to get the desired focus

More macro shots

When there is not enough lighting, focus starts to work noticeably slower, the pictures start to wash.

However, for example, in the same Doogee y100 pro, the device produces better pictures
Top M2 Mini
Bottom Doogeee Y100 PRO

The 5MP front camera has autofocus.
For a front camera, it shoots decently, but nothing special.

Video writes 30 fps, FULL HD
The quality is not bad, you can shoot.

There is also the SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOW MO function
In fact, this is more like marketing bullshit, because it will not bring real usefulness and will be used a little more than anyone else.
There is only one reason - oooooooooooooo bad recording quality, despite the fact that it writes only in 640x480, the quality is terrible.
But the presence of such a function in the device for such a price is impressive.
And here it is more likely not about the camera, but about the processor, which is simply not originally designed for such tasks, starts to noticeably warm up when shooting.

conclusions

I tried not to write about the minuses especially during the whole review and to concentrate all attention on them in the conclusions, they are, some for someone will be significant, for someone not, but let's start with the good.

pros

+ Nimble device
+ Really good camera for its price point
+ Excellent build
+ Good conversational speaker (it is really good, you can hear it clearly, with a margin of volume)
+ Flyme OS
+ Appearance, it still looks pretty
+ Support (meizu does not put a bolt on its products immediately after release, like the rest of the Chinese, there that at least 1 year I think there will be updates, or even 2-3)
+ Battery

Controversial points, depending on the taste of everyone

± Mechanical button, some people don't like it, on the contrary, I really, really like it.
± The screen, I didn't know where to put it, so I put it in here, the screen is not bad, but nothing more, so if you care very much good screen, consider this
± Temporary official absence of the Russian language in the firmware.
± Glossy and slippery (gray matte, there should be everything better in this regard)
± The sound in the headphones, there is no separate DAC, the sound is not that bad, rather it is usually flat, and if you have some expensive ears, you may be disappointed.
± You can use EITHER 2 SIM cards at once, OR 1 SIM + USB flash drive. Option 2 sim + flash drive NO

Minuses

- 1 microphone
- Lousy external speaker, alas, it is full of PPC, most of the melodies play extremely badly, so if you want to put your song on a call, you will have to choose the one that will sound normal for a long time. Forget to listen to music through it.
- 4G, when I turned it on and surfed the internet for 10-20 minutes, my device (the place where the processor is located, to the left of the camera) warmed up to such an extent that it was difficult to keep it in that place, so I immediately turned off this 4G.
- Perhaps it's just me, maybe a firmware glitch, but turning on the device from sleep for 1-2 seconds. When during a conversation I take the phone to see something in it, I have to wait 2-4 seconds for the screen to light up, unpleasant little things.
- The glass of the device is still not the best, the first days I generally walked with the factory film, it is matte, a finger glides on it perfectly, not only the inscriptions on it, I would not take it off :)
- Plastic back cover the phone is most likely one of the cheapest, so it may quickly wear out / crack.

So, if you are looking for a 5-inch device in the price range up to $ 130- $ 140 (reseller price), then this in my opinion will be an excellent choice. A good hardware component, a well-thought-out and existing shell from the manufacturer for several years, updates will be at least 1 year, although there are some drawbacks.
Did the maize manage to make the perfect 5 inch? Alas, no, they had to save on something, so they failed on this, although I would gladly have spent another 1-2 dozen dollars if they had eliminated all these shortcomings in the device, but it would be more likely in Meizu m3. Now we have just a solid apparatus.

Competitors?
… Among devices with a 5-inch screen and in this price category - I do not see them. Really competitors, not some alternative options, which are cheaper by $ 15, and in comparison they suck on all counts.

I plan to buy +23 Add to favourites I liked the review +32 +71

Compact LTE smartphone at an affordable price

The Meizu m2 smartphone is currently the most affordable offer from the entire line of Meizu devices, which, it should be noted, has recently become active on the market mobile devices... A couple of years ago, the company slowly released one model per season and felt pretty good at the same time, but new times made even such unhurried manufacturers move.

Now in the portfolio of the Chinese company there are several current models at the same time, which, according to modern fashion, are clearly delineated by segments. There is a premium segment (represented by Pro models), flagships (MX), affordable large-screen tablets (Note), and representatives of the m (mini) line now cover the niche of budget devices, although the concept of budget for Russian market is now quite distorted. The price of the new item will be discussed later, but for now it is worth noting that the device under review does not have any "mini" prefix in the original name - in China itself, the hero of the review is called Meizu m2.

Contents of delivery

Meizu m2 goes on sale in an unreasonably large package, although the smartphone itself is small, and the contents of its kit are minimal. The box is really too big, for some reason it has a square shape, although everything that is in it could fit into a quarter of this volume. The box is designed in a minimalist style: only a couple of logos are applied on the outside on a snow-white background. The junior model did not receive the usual inner box made in the form of a book.

The set of accessories is quite limited: the box contains only the standard Charger with an output current of 2 A and a connecting Micro-USB cable, nothing more.

Appearance and usability

In appearance, Meizu m2 does not differ from other modern models of the family of this Chinese company, which now uses the same design for all of its products, from top-end to budget. It is still the same simple in shape, streamlined boat cover on all sides without any additional decorative elements such as a side frame or inserts.

There is no metal in the outer part of the Meizu m2 case, everything here is made of polycarbonate, there is not even a rim around the rear camera glass. This partly makes the case a little unattractive, but in any case, the design remains a matter of taste.

As for the assembly, there are no complaints here: the monolithic non-separable body of Meizu m2 does not emit squeaks when squeezed, it does not bend in the center of the back cover, the parts fit perfectly. The smartphone (in the gray version) has a matte plastic surface, so the device is held in the hand quite reliably, although it cannot be said that fingerprints are not visible on it at all. However, there are even more of them on the front glass - the oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating here, apparently, is rather weak.

A single side slot is used to attach the cards, into which two SIM cards are inserted simultaneously, stacked on a metal slide one after the other. Nano-SIM cards are used. In place of one of the SIM-cards, you can install a memory card, but then you have to limit yourself to working with only one SIM-card, which is not very convenient.

On the opposite side edge, on the right, there are both mechanical control keys (lock and volume). The buttons are made of the same plastic as the entire body. They are large in size, protrude beyond the body to a sufficient height, have an elastic springy stroke, and are easily found blindly.

There is another mechanical key on the front panel, it is located in the center under the screen and has an oval shape, like Samsung smartphones... Only, unlike them, there is no built-in fingerprint scanner, but it is possible to return a step back in the interface with one touch without pressing, which is no less useful. By the way, a fingerprint scanner is integrated into such a button in Meizu devices, but only in flagship ones (Meizu MX5). Pressing this key here performs the action to return to the home screen. Thus, this button replaces the two main navigation buttons smartphones with Android OS, and they are not nearby. The developers did not take care of the event indicator either.

There are no surprises on the back side of the case: a large round camera window without any rim is covered protective glass Gorilla Glass 3, the camera module does not protrude beyond the surface of the body. There is a single LED flash nearby that can be used as a flashlight.

The main speaker is brought out to the bottom end - to the same place where the Micro-USB connector is located, which supports the connection external devices v USB mode OTG. The audio output for headphones is located on the opposite upper end. There are no covers or plugs on the connectors, the smartphone is not equipped with protection against water and dust. There is no strap attachment on the case either.

As in the case of the Meizu m2 Note, the hero of the review comes on sale in four different versions: three body colors (white, blue and pink) have glossy surfaces, and the gray version, as in our photos, has a matte, not easily soiled coating but too slippery for a secure grip. So this is an infrequent case when ergonomics strongly depends on the color of the case: glossy versions are more easily soiled, but they are held in the hand much more reliably, their coating seems to "stick" to the skin. By the way, in official deliveries to Russia, the pink version of Meizu m2 is not yet available - perhaps it will appear with us later.

Screen

Meizu m2 is equipped with an IPS sensor matrix (using GFF technology with full lamination). Unlike the rear camera, the screen is not protected by Gorilla Glass 3, but by AGC Dragontrail. The physical dimensions of the screen are 62 × 110 mm, the diagonal is 5 inches, the resolution is 1280 × 720 pixels, and the dot density is 294 ppi.

The frame around the screen can be called thin: its width is less than 3 mm at the sides, and 14 mm at the top and bottom; the screen-to-body ratio is over 75%.

The brightness of the display can be adjusted manually, there is also an ambient light sensor, on the basis of which automatic adjustment works. The multitouch technology here allows you to process 10 simultaneous touches. When you bring the smartphone to your ear, the screen is locked using a proximity sensor. The screen can be unlocked by double tapping on the glass or by drawing special gestures.

A detailed examination using measuring instruments was carried out by the editor of the "Monitors" and "Projectors and TV" sections Alexey Kudryavtsev... Here is his expert opinion on the screen of the test sample.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, resistant to scratches. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are no worse than those of the Google Nexus 7 (2013) (hereinafter simply Nexus 7). For clarity, here is a photo in which a white surface is reflected in the turned off screens (on the left - Nexus 7, on the right - Meizu m2, then they can be distinguished by their size):

The screen of the Meizu m2 is still lighter (brightness in the photos is 126 versus 110 for the Nexus 7), which is at odds with the initial subjective assessment. The doubling of reflected objects in the Meizu m2 screen is weak, which indicates that there is no air gap between the layers of the screen (more specifically, between the outer glass and the surface of the LCD matrix) (OGS type screen - One Glass Solution). Due to the smaller number of boundaries (such as glass / air) with strongly differing refractive indices, such screens look better in conditions of strong external illumination, but their repair in the case of cracked outer glass is much more expensive, since the entire screen has to be changed. On the outer surface of the screen there is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating, its efficiency is high, even higher than that of the Nexus 7, so fingerprints are removed much easier, and appear at a slower rate than in the case of ordinary glass.

With manual brightness control and with the display of the white field on the whole screen, the maximum brightness value was about 410 cd / m², the minimum - 5 cd / m². The maximum brightness is not very high, but given the good anti-glare properties, readability even on a sunny day outdoors should be at a more or less acceptable level. In complete darkness, the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable value. In the presence of automatic brightness control by the light sensor (it is located to the left of the front speaker slot). V automatic mode when the ambient light conditions change, the screen brightness both increases and decreases. This function depends on the position of the brightness adjustment slider. If it is 100%, then in complete darkness, the auto-brightness function reduces the brightness to 160 cd / m2 (too much), in an office illuminated with artificial light (about 400 lux) it sets to 230 cd / m2 (ok), in a very bright environment (corresponds to illumination on a clear day outdoors, but without direct sunlight - 20,000 lux or a little more) the brightness rises to 410 cd / m² (to the maximum - this is what you need); if the adjustment is about 50%, then the values are as follows: 48, 130 and 410 cd / m² (suitable combination), the regulator at 0% - 6.5, 36 and 405 cd / m² (the first two values are slightly underestimated, which is logical). It turns out that the automatic brightness control function works absolutely adequately and allows the user to customize his work for individual requirements. At any brightness level, there is no significant backlight modulation, so there is no screen flickering either.

V this smartphone a matrix of the IPS type is used. On the micrograph, if desired, you can see the subpixel structure typical for IPS:

For comparison, you can see the gallery of photomicrographs of screens used in mobile technology.

The screen has good viewing angles without significant color shift even with large gaze deviations from the perpendicular to the screen and without pronounced inversion of shades. However, in the case of the darkest shades, there is an inversion of the brightness of the shades along one diagonal. For comparison, here are the photos in which the same images are displayed on the screens of Meizu m2 and Nexus 7, while the brightness of the screens was initially set at about 200 cd / m². White field perpendicular to screens:

Note the good uniformity of brightness and color tone of the white field. And the test picture:

The color saturation is moderately high, but the color balance is noticeably different. Now at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the plane and to the side of the screen:

It can be seen that the colors did not change much on both screens, but on the Meizu m2 the contrast decreased to a large extent due to the strong black lightening. And white box:

The brightness at an angle of the screens has decreased (at least 5 times, based on the difference in exposure), but the Meizu m2 has a slightly lighter screen (average brightness in photos is 238 versus 234 for Nexus 7). When deviated along the diagonal, the black field brightens up strongly, but remains conditionally neutral gray. The photos below demonstrate this (the brightness of the white areas in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the screens is the same!):

And from a different angle:

With a perpendicular view, the uniformity of the black field is imperfect, since in some places the brightness of the black increases noticeably:

The contrast ratio (approximately in the center of the screen) is good - about 880: 1. The response time for the transition black-white-black is 26 ms (13 ms on + 13 ms off). The transition between gray tones of 25% and 75% (based on the numerical value of the color) and back takes 41 ms in total. The gamma curve, plotted using 32 points at equal intervals in terms of the numerical value of the shade of gray, did not reveal a blockage in either the highlights or the shadows. The exponent of the approximating power function is 2.16, which is close to standard value 2.2. In this case, the real gamma curve almost does not deviate from the power dependence:

The color gamut differs slightly from sRGB:

The spectra show that the matrix filters mix the components together to a moderate extent:

However, the deviations of the coordinates of the primary colors from the vertices of the sRGB triangle are not very large, so the colors have almost natural saturation and hue. The balance of shades on the gray scale is medium, since the color temperature is above the standard 6500 K, and the deviation from the spectrum of the absolute black body (ΔE) is greater than 10, which is considered not a very good indicator even for a consumer device. However, ΔE and color temperature change little from hue to hue - this has a positive effect on the visual assessment of color balance. (The darkest areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance there is not very important, and the error in measuring color characteristics at low brightness is large.)

This device has the ability to correct the color balance by adjusting the color temperature.

However, any change in the position of the slider from the initial one leads to a significant increase in ΔE, so it makes no sense to perform such an adjustment, especially since the color temperature is not very much higher than 6500 K.

To summarize: the screen has a fairly high maximum brightness and has good anti-reflective properties, so the device can be used outdoors even on a sunny summer day. For conditions of complete darkness, you can set a comfortable level of brightness. There is also a mode with automatic brightness adjustment, which works quite adequately. The advantages of the screen include an effective oleophobic coating, no air gap in the layers of the screen and no flicker, a color gamut close to sRGB and a color balance acceptable for visual assessment. As a significant disadvantage, we attribute the low stability of black to the deviation of the gaze from the perpendicular to the plane of the screen. Nevertheless, taking into account the importance of characteristics for this particular class of devices, the screen quality can be considered high.

Sound

Meizu m2 sounds pretty good, especially in headphones. When connecting high-quality headphones, you can get good-quality sound, the sound is clear, bright, rich and loud, no extraneous noise or distortion is observed. To connect some models of headphones, there are prepared profiles, including those for Apple EarPods. In the main speaker, the sound is also clear, but, as usual, you need to use engineering menu to increase the maximum volume, otherwise the headroom of this speaker may seem insufficient. In the spoken dynamics, the intonation and timbre of the familiar interlocutor's voice remain recognizable, there are no special distortions, the system copes with the surrounding noise quite adequately.

To play music, a proprietary player is used, in the settings of which it is possible to use an equalizer with preset values. Plugging in headphones gives you the above-mentioned option to choose from several different profiles of the Dirac HD Sound system.

The device can record telephone conversations from the line, for this you just need to press the corresponding button in the interface of the telephone application right during the call. There is no FM radio in the smartphone.

Camera

The smartphone is equipped with two modules digital cameras with a resolution of 13 and 5 megapixels. The front camera is equipped with a 5-megapixel sensor and a wide-angle lens with an aperture of f / 2.0, it lacks autofocus and flash. You can shoot using the hardware volume key. Among the settings of the front camera, there is also a manual mode, in which you can manually control aperture, shutter speed, ISO. The developers call the camera installed here "a top solution in this price segment", and also mention a kind of "intelligent system for improving the quality of selfies FotoNation 2.0, which provides accurate white balance adjustment and allows you to create excellent photos." However, we did not notice anything special in the resulting selfies, the quality for the level of selfies is satisfactory, but nothing more. In case of insufficient ambient light this system definitely does not save.

The main camera gets the same familiar 13-megapixel Samsung sensor and a 5-element lens with an f / 2.2 aperture. There is a single flash, the lens is protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The autofocus here, according to subjective feelings, is rather slow, but rarely makes mistakes. There is no stabilization system - neither optical nor electronic.

The shooting control menu is exactly the same as in other modern Meizu models, only there are fewer different shooting modes here. In manual mode, it is also possible to set the shutter speed, ISO, etc. Third party applications these settings cannot be controlled via the Camera2 API.

The camera can shoot video at a maximum resolution of 1080p, which is generally good, but the system does a poor job with noise when recording sound. Apparently, the sensitivity of the only microphone installed in the device is overstated as much as possible, while there is no noise reduction system. As a result, when playing a sound, a "mess" of various sounds superimposed on each other arises, each of which the microphone tried to record as clearly as possible, including the noise of the wind.

Quite good sharpness across the field and according to plans.

Small out-of-focus area in the upper right corner.

The camera copes with macro photography.

The text has been worked out well.

Sharpness is generally good, but there are areas of blur.

The left side of the frame is definitely sharper than the right. The grass merges only to the distant shots.

Sometimes there are practically no areas of blur.

Despite the out-of-focus area on the right, the number of the nearest car is distinguishable.

The camera is pretty good. It is not devoid of minor flaws, but on the whole it gives a good result. In some places it processes the noise reduction, and in some places there are simply zones of blur, which cannot but upset. Also, the camera does not always work out the details well. As for the rest, the image quality can be described as “above average”. The camera is quite capable of coping not only with documentary shooting, but also with art.

Telephone part and communications

The smartphone works as standard in modern 2G GSM and 3G WCDMA networks, and also has support for fourth-generation LTE Cat.4 networks (FDD-LTE: 1800/2100/2600 MHz), that is, the hero of the review will be able to function in two of the three most common domestic operators of the bands (B3, B7), while B20 (800 MHz) is not supported by this phone. In practice, with SIM-cards of Beeline and MTS operators in the Moscow region, the smartphone confidently registered and worked in 4G networks. The quality of signal reception raises no objections, the device confidently maintains communication in rooms and does not lose signal in areas of poor reception.

Rest networking opportunities smartphones are also quite satisfactory: there is bluetooth support 4.0 BLE, two Wi-Fi bands are supported (2.4 and 5 GHz), Wi-Fi Direct, you can organize a wireless access point via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth channels. There is no NFC, but connecting external devices to USB port in OTG mode is supported.

The operation of the navigation module raises no objections, the speed of detecting satellites during a cold start is less than a minute. The module supports GPS / A-GPS and domestic system Glonass. There is a sensor among the sensors magnetic field, on the basis of which the electronic compass of navigation cartographic programs functions.

The phone application supports Smart Dial, that is, when dialing a phone number, a search is immediately carried out by the first letters in contacts. There is no Swype support. In addition to standard keyboard there is an alternative TouchPal X with a wider range of settings and capabilities.

The smartphone supports work with two SIM-cards. Traditionally for the interface smartphones Meizu when making a call, you can select any desired SIM card, but you cannot pre-assign any one as the main one for organizing voice calls or sending SMS messages. Unlike the previous model (Meizu m1). here a SIM card in any slot can work with 3G / 4G networks, but, as usual, only one of the cards can function in this mode at the same time. To change the assignments of the card slots, you do not need to change places - this can be done directly from the phone menu. Working with two SIM-cards is organized according to the usual Dual standard SIM Dual Standby, when both cards can be in active standby mode, but cannot work at the same time - there is only one radio module here.

OS and software

The device uses the Google software platform as a system. Android version 5.1 with its own Flyme OS version 4.5 installed, which supports over the air (OTA) updates. The interface is well known from the previous models of the family, there are practically no differences, and among the features one can only note the presence of the so-called “ Light mode". This is a simplified mode, in which the smartphone interface becomes as simple as possible, there is a minimum number of icons on the screen, only the most necessary ones are left from the settings, the virtual buttons are maximized, that is, in general, everything is done so that the smartphone becomes convenient for elderly people to use and, possibly, children. It is curious that this mode of all Meizu smartphones is implemented only in this model.

Otherwise, everything is familiar. As always, a lot of attention has been paid to working with gestures. Although the Meizu m2 screen is not the largest, there is also a virtual SmartTouch button. It can be positioned anywhere on the screen, and it can be used to move the image halfway down to make it easier to reach the top elements. You can also use gestures to interact with the recent menu. open programs, a notification curtain, unlocking the home screen, etc. For example, you can not only unlock the screen, but also use special characters (letters of the Latin alphabet) to immediately call a certain application to work at the same time as unlocking.

A lot of attention has also been paid to security: it is very convenient that with the help of standard tools, you can set a password to launch any application - for example, this way you can hide a gallery with photos, mail from prying eyes, and even restrict access to games for children. The built-in explorer has a special folder (Disk / storage), and if you move any other folder (the same photos, movies or music) into it, then it will no longer be possible to enter them without a password. There is also an option remote control smartphone with anti-theft protection, but domestic users are not yet able to use it, because the interface personal account implemented in Chinese only.

There is no standard set of touch buttons below the screen, so some of their responsibilities are assigned to a single central hardware button. It is very convenient that in latest models Meizu, by simply touching it, takes a step back in the interface, this solves many problems with the lack of additional keys... Generally user interface Flyme OS is currently one of the most attractive, neat-looking, well-thought-out and systematized alternative shells for working with Android OS.

Performance

The Meizu m2 hardware platform is based on the MediaTek MT6735 SoC, which has four Cortex-A53 processor cores operating at up to 1300 MHz. This is an entry-level 64-bit solution, the capabilities of this SoC are modest. Graphics processing is handled by a Mali-T720 triple-core GPU with a core frequency of up to 450 MHz. Random access memory the device provides 2 GB, the amount of built-in memory is 16 GB, of which 10.5 GB is initially free for the needs of the user himself. It is also possible to use a memory card, but for this you have to remove the second SIM card. In practice, our 128GB Transcend Premium microSDXC UHS-1 test card was confidently recognized by the device. Connecting external devices and flash drives to the Micro-USB port in USB OTG mode is also supported.

According to the test results, the MediaTek MT6735 platform showed fairly modest results, which is to be expected from a budget solution. Although this is a 64-bit SoC, and the Android OS is also 64-bit, the difference in AnTuTu tests between versions is minimal (about 27K points in a 64-bit test).

However, even this budget platform turned out to be faster in all tests, both complex and specialized, than Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 positioned at the same level. entry level MediaTek MT6735 is quite simple, and most other modern platforms outrun it, including all representatives of the MediaTek line itself.

Testing in latest versions complex tests AnTuTu and GeekBench 3:

All the results we got when testing a smartphone in the most fresh versions popular benchmarks, we have tabulated for convenience. Several other devices from different segments are usually added to the table, also tested on similar latest versions of benchmarks (this is done only for a visual assessment of the obtained dry numbers). Unfortunately, within the framework of one comparison, it is impossible to present the results from different versions benchmarks, so many worthy and relevant models remain "behind the scenes" - due to the fact that they once passed the "obstacle course" on previous versions test programs.

Testing the graphics subsystem in 3DMark gaming tests,GFXBenchmark, and Bonsai Benchmark:

When testing in 3DMark for the highest performing smartphones, it is now possible to run the application in Unlimited mode, where the rendering resolution is fixed at 720p and VSync is disabled (which can cause the speed to rise above 60 fps).

Browser cross-platform tests:

As for benchmarks for evaluating the speed of a javascript engine, you should always make allowances for the fact that the results in them significantly depend on the browser in which they are launched, so that the comparison can be truly correct only on the same OS and browsers, and this possibility is available when testing not always. In the case of Android OS, we always try to use Google Chrome.

Heat images

Below is a thermal image of the rear surface taken after a 10 minute battery test in GFXBenchmark:

It can be seen that the heating is clearly localized in the upper part of the device, which, apparently, corresponds to the location of the SoC microcircuit. Below you can see the contours of the battery, which heats up a little with an intense discharge. According to the heat chamber, the maximum heating was 40 degrees (at an ambient temperature of 24 degrees), this is the average heating in this test among modern smartphones.

Video playback

To test the "omnivorous" video playback (including support for various codecs, containers and special features, such as subtitles), we used the most common formats, which make up the bulk of the content available on the Web. Note that it is important for mobile devices to have support for hardware video decoding at the chip level, since it is often impossible to process modern versions using processor cores alone. Also, do not expect a mobile device to decode everything, since the leadership in flexibility belongs to the PC, and no one is going to challenge it. All results are tabulated.

Once again, the Meizu smartphone was pleasantly surprised by the support of all decoders, which are necessary for the full playback of most of the most common multimedia files on the network. That is, to play them successfully, you don't even have to resort to using a third-party player - for example, MX Player, although playback in it will also support the AC3 audio format, which is good news.

Testing of video output features was carried out by Alexey Kudryavtsev.

We did not find the MHL interface, like Mobility DisplayPort, in this smartphone, so we had to limit ourselves to testing the output of video files on the screen of the device itself. To do this, we used a set of test files with an arrow and a rectangle moving one division per frame (see "Testing technique for video playback and display devices. Version 1 (for mobile devices)"). Screenshots with an exposure of 1 s helped to determine the nature of the frame output of video files with various parameters: the resolution varied (1280 by 720 (720p) and 1920 by 1080 (1080p) pixels) and the frame rate (24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 fps). with). In our tests, we used the MX Player video player in the "Hardware" mode. The test results are summarized in the table:

Note: If both columns Uniformity and Skips green ratings are set, this means that, most likely, when watching movies, artifacts caused by uneven alternation and skipping of frames will either not be visible at all, or their number and visibility will not affect the viewing comfort. Red marks indicate possible problems with the playback of the respective files.

According to the criterion for the output of frames, the quality of video files playback on the screen of the smartphone itself is good, since frames (or groups of frames) can (but are not required) to be displayed with more or less uniform alternation of intervals and almost without frame drops. Except for files with 60 fps, in which case many frames are skipped, moreover, at first the playback is slow-motion, then it is accelerated and so on with repetition. Note that the screen refresh rate appears to be below the typical 60 Hz and is approximately 53 Hz. When playing video files with a resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels (720p) on a smartphone screen, the image of the video file itself is displayed exactly along the edge of the screen, one to one pixel by pixel, that is, in the original resolution. The brightness range displayed on the screen corresponds to the standard range of 16-235 - all shades are displayed in the shadows and highlights.

Battery life

Meizu m2 is equipped with a non-removable battery of 2500 mAh standard for modern smartphones. Thanks to this, as well as the not too powerful and rather economical hardware, the smartphone demonstrated quite a decent level of autonomy in all standard use cases.

Testing, as usual, was carried out at the maximum power consumption level without using the proprietary energy-saving functions and modes, although there are some in the device. With this, Meizu smartphones have recently been simple: in the battery section, you can choose one of three operating modes (productive, balanced and energy-saving). At first, in the very first models, this function was deeply buried in the settings section for developers, where not everyone could find it.

Continuous reading in the Moon + Reader program (with a standard, light theme, with auto-scrolling) at the minimum comfortable brightness level (the brightness was set to 100 cd / m2) lasted 14.5 hours until the battery was fully discharged, and with continuous high-quality video viewing ( 720p) with the same brightness level through home network The Wi-Fi device lasted 9.5 hours. In 3D games mode, the smartphone worked for 4 hours. The battery of the smartphone is charged for a long time, the time to fully charge the Meizu m2 battery is at least 3 full hours.

Outcome

Unfortunately for Russian buyers, the official price of certified Meizu m2 was not so low that the smartphone could be confidently ranked as a truly budget segment. At the moment, a smartphone can be purchased at a price of 12-13 thousand rubles, which is not so little. However, it is worth considering that for this money the user gets a model that is quite worthy in all respects with an excellent bright and large enough IPS-screen, an excellent sound system, a good set of communication interfaces and a more than satisfactory level of autonomy. A high-quality polycarbonate case with an aluminum chassis inside promises to "wear for a long time" and look good (if you like the appearance of Meizu m2 in principle), besides, the smartphone is offered in several colors for every taste. Of the weak points, we can only note that the camera is not of the highest quality, but this question is also relative: the camera is weak compared to the flagships, but it is quite satisfactory for its level. And, of course, you shouldn't expect anything special from the hardware platform of this model - it is frankly budgetary. In general, as usual, Meizu has released a quite solid product that you can safely purchase without fear of running into any hidden defects or shortcomings - the company takes its business with full responsibility, in recent years we have been able to make sure of this more than once by example other previously tested products from this manufacturer.
