Positioning

I immediately want to apologize for the fact that the review-operating experience comes out quite late, since almost six months have passed since the announcement of the Nexus 5. Nevertheless, the device is more than relevant now, since it operates on one of the fastest chipsets, it has an excellent camera, and generally decent technical characteristics. In addition, the device is already available not only in black and white, but also in red, a 32 GB version has appeared. Well, and most importantly - the price, a distinctive feature of the entire Nexus line: the gadget can be purchased from 15,000 rubles (PCT). For example, in this price range it is easy to find only "gray" devices with similar parameters. Do not forget about the most interesting feature of the Nexus 5 - getting latest versions Google Android software!

I am glad that the situation with the inaccessibility of "Nexus" did not repeat itself: the year before last, 4 were sold anywhere, but not here.

I would not like to procrastinate with a boring preface about how and where this wonderful device came from, what "merits to the Fatherland", orders and regalia it has, since most of you have already read and looked at the reviews on third-party resources... Below is a video review and a modest test.

Design, dimensions, controls

The appearance of the Nexus 5 is clearly not the best that Google and LG have to offer users. The previous device looked much more attractive and original: glass on both sides and a nice volumetric texture. The Nexus 5 uses regular plastic topped with a soft-touch, a velvety soft material. The shape of the body is rectangular, the upper ends are slightly convex, the edges are slightly rounded. The back surface is even, only to the sides it has a sloping shape. The camera module looks very strange: in my subjective opinion, it does not fit into the overall design of the device at all. When the Nexus 5 first appeared in the photo, it seemed to me that it was some kind of concept, a dummy or, if you like, a gadget on which the new version of Android was being tested.

In short, my opinion is this: if you decide to buy a 5-ku, then take a closer look at the device in white or red, black is too primitive. Although people take the Nexus 5 not for its looks, but for its excellent value for money. Personally, I would prefer the Nexus in disguise previous version, just a little thinner.

Dimensions Nexus 5 - 137x69x8.59 mm, weight - 130 grams.

Model Dimensions, mm Weight, g
Nexus 4 133x68x9.1 139
Nexus 5 137x69x8.59 130
Samsung Galaxy S4 136x69x7.9 130
Sony Xperia Z 139x71x7.9 146
Sony Xperia Z1 144x74x8.5 170
LG G2 138x70x9.1 143
Htc one 137x68x9.3 143
Apple iPhone 5S 123x58x7.6 112

Due to the fact that the device has a small thickness and sloping edges, it fits perfectly in the hand and does not slip out. In terms of usability, I can compare with the Samsung Galaxy S4 - it is also thin, lightweight and relatively narrow, but glossy, so it is more slippery.

Fingerprints on the "back" remain (if we consider the "five" in black), they are easily erased. For a month of use (plus some more time of "use" by other reviewers), not a single scratch, even a small one, appeared on the smartphone screen. On the surface of the display, apparently, an oleophobic coating is applied, since the prints, although they remain, can be removed without problems. In addition, it is worth noting the fact that the finger glides across the screen very smoothly - the touch layer is comfortable and pleasant to use.

The gadget is assembled perfectly (the case is not collapsible): no backlash, squeaks, when twisted, it does not emit a crunching sound. Despite the fact that the camera's rather large peephole protrudes slightly above the body, the lens glass remained free of chips and scratches.

In general, the device is made practically, but not too original.

Above the speaker is designed in the form of a circle with a mesh.

Often you have to choose the angle of the phone so that the sound gets exactly into the auricle. Maybe this is a feature of my non-standard ears :-) The speaker volume is high, mostly mid and low frequencies are heard, intelligibility is not bad and strongly depends on what device they use to communicate with you, well, and on the quality of the network too. Rattling at maximum volume and no echo. They hear you loudly, but the timbre, at times, is not the best: the interlocutor hears mumbling in most situations. Unfortunately, this is noted by many Nexus 5 users. There is a front-facing camera.

Complaints are caused by the operation of the indicator light, which is built into the lower area of the front panel. Perhaps an inadequate sample of the phone came across, but the LED almost never blinked: in rare cases, when it missed messages, it allowed itself to function.

The proximity sensor behaved correctly, but still there were cases of inappropriate behavior, a couple of times even accidentally pressed the call rejection with his ear or cheek. The light sensor is impeccable: it precisely and smoothly adjusted the brightness level of the screen matrix backlight.

The power button on the right, it seems to me, is located a little high, you have to reach out with your thumb. The button travel is small, the pressing is soft. On the left - the same type of volume rocker. They are said to be made of ceramics. Oh, miracle!

Sim tray is on the right. To remove it, you need to install a needle or a special injector into a small hole. At the bottom is micro-USB, to the left of it is the speaker, and to the right is the main microphone. It looks like there are two speakers at the bottom end.

At the top there is a second microphone and a standard 3.5 mm jack. At the back is a camera and flash.

Display

LG Nexus 5 did not experiment with the screen diagonal, so they set the standard diagonal of today - 5 inches (to be precise, 4.95 "). For me this is the maximum, i.e. if the screen is more than five inches, then use one hand the phone is difficult. Physical size display - 62x110 mm, top frame - 12 mm, bottom - 16 mm, and left and right - 3.8 mm each. The screen occupies about 72% of the usable area, steeper only Galaxy S4 (72.1%), LG G Pro (72.8%), Note 3 (74.6%) and the leader - LG G2 (75.7%).

TFT Super IPS + matrix from Japan Display, resolution typical for modern smartphone on Android in the price range of 15,000 rubles - FullHD - 1080x1920 pixels. Density - 445 dots per inch. Of course, individual pixels are invisible at this resolution. Protected by third generation Gorilla Glass.

Below are a few photos showing the screen quality of the following devices: HTC One, Nexus 5, Meizu MX3 and LG G2 (right).

At right angles, the Nexus 5 has slightly richer colors, followed by the HTC One, LG G2 and Meizu MX3. The HTC One's screen does the best at angles, followed by the Nexus 5, MX3 and LG G2. The purest white color is given by the display of Meizu MX3 (true, but rather goes into cold shades), then HTC One, Nexus 5 and LG G2. The best black color is for HTC One, then for Meizu MX3, LG G2. On the other hand, the Nexus 5 does the worst with black, especially under slight tilts of the screen.

In general, I can say that the display of the Nexus 5 is better than the display of the LG G2 (in fact, a copy of the Nexus) - the color reproduction is more pleasant, the viewing angles are larger. I'd say the Nexus 5's screen isn't the best, but it's not the worst in the FullHD display market either.

Capacitive touch layer (Synaptics S3350B controller), no air gap. He fulfills up to 10 simultaneous touches. The sensitivity is very high.

In the sun, the screen, of course, “fades” a lot, but the image does not lose color.

Things are better in the shadows. In general, the backlight brightness is not the greatest.

There is an Asahi Kasei AK8963 accelerometer and an InvenSense MPU-6515 gyroscope

Battery

The device uses a non-removable lithium-polymer (Li-Pol) battery with a capacity of 2300 mAh, 8.74 Wh, type - BL-T9.

I got the following indicators:

  • HD video playback (720p, H.264) at maximum brightness and volume with audio output to headphones: just over 5 hours
  • Music playback with headphones at maximum volume: just over 35 hours
  • Games only (high brightness and volume): up to 3 hours
  • Wi-Fi surfing only (high brightness backlight): about 6 hours

The battery situation on the Nexus 5 is ambiguous. The first few weeks I wrote on Twitter that the device holds a charge just brutally, showing the result in 12-14 hours of active use (constant Wi-Fi, "push" mail, twitter and many others). But gradually (this is probably due to the installation of more and more applications) the battery began to "deflate". This has become especially noticeable in recent days: calls "eat" energy very strongly. Only on them and SMS the device worked no more than one and a half days. Now the Nexus 5 lives about as long as the average Android smartphone. one day.

With Antutu Tester, my sample refused to function. Below are many screenshots.

Communication capabilities

Very briefly: there is LTE, which works in Russia (the devices we bought are definitely "friends" with LTE), there is Wi-Fi standard 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac (Broadcom BCM4339 controller, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, DLNA, Miracast and PassPoint support, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi HotSpot), Bluetooth 4.0, NFC (Broadcom BCM20793M controller).

During testing, there were no problems with communication, Wi-Fi worked stably, as, indeed, GPS, but the accuracy of the latter was constantly in doubt (often had to wait up to a minute for the device to more accurately give the coordinates). There is nothing more to comment on in this section.

A little information about USB:

“Through the microUSB 2.0 port with support for USB On-the-Go 1.3 (USB OTG), it is possible to connect a USB flash drive, like a keyboard or any other USB device through a special USB cable OTG. This connector also supports the SlimPort standard thanks to the Analogix ANX7808 transceiver, which allows you to connect your phone to a separate display via HDMI or VGA with an appropriate adapter cable. When the machine is connected to a PC, a message may appear indicating that it can be used. USB interface 3.0, but in reality this is just a controller's capability, while the USB 3.0 contact lines themselves are not wired in the connector, and a standard microUSB 2.0 connector is used. "

Memory and memory card

RAM LPDDR3-1600 (manufacturer - SK Hynix, model H9CKNNNBPTMRLR-NTM) - 2 GB. Usually about 1 GB of free space.

There can be 16 GB or 32 GB of Flash memory inside. In our case, this is a 16 GB NAND Flash Sandisk SDIN8DE4. Of this volume, about 12 GB is available. If this is not enough for you, then I advise you to take a closer look at the model of the device with 32 GB, since you will not find a slot for a memory card here. 16 GB is enough for me on almost all devices (iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad, Meizu MX3, even Galaxy S4 with 8 GB Flash), since I don't put toys on, I rarely shoot videos.

Camera

The Nexus 5 has an 8 MP main camera module with optical image stabilization using the InvenSense IDG-2020 two-dimensional gyroscope. The sensor has a size of 1 / 3.2 "and a pixel size of 1.4 microns, a lens with an aperture of F2.4 is sparse, given that many Chinese devices supply their cameras with F2.2 and even F2.0 lenses. The 1.3 MP front camera is available. small one-section flash.

The effectiveness of optical stabilization is not very high, and practically there is very little sense. For example, it would be possible to implement "long" shutter speeds (1/2, 1/3 second), but they are not here. Partially OIS helps, but in most situations the work is noticeable only in video mode, and even then some devices stabilize electronically much better (like the Sony Xperia Z1).

If we talk about the quality of the photo in normal mode, then the Nexus 5 shoots well, at the level of any Android smart, more than 15,000 rubles. However, this particular model of the device is equipped with a software thing called "HDR +". It's not just HDR - stretching dark areas and darkening bright ones - but a whole technology for getting a cool shot. HDR + can and should be compared to the Cortex app on iOS. Both functions take multiple frames, analyze the photos and stitch them together. The result is a clean, high-quality, quiet image. However, if Cortex does this for up to 4 seconds, then HDR + is enough for 1-2 seconds, or even less (it all depends on the lighting level). Below are pictures taken on the iPhone 5 and Nexus 5 (right).

Everything is excellent with the Nexus white balance, which cannot be said about the photo on the iPhone.

Even lower - comparison of photos on Sony Xperia Z1 ( manual mode), iPhone 5 (center, Cortex), and Nexus 5 (HDR + mode).

In this case, the photos came out cleaner on the iPhone 5, and the sharpness is higher.

In addition, I compared footage captured with the LG G2, Samsung Galaxy S4 and Nexus 5 in low light conditions:

In my opinion, there are a lot of artifacts in the SGS4 photo, noise is noticeable in the Nexus 5 photo, and the LG G2 applied a strong "cleaning", so the picture turned out to be somewhat soapy.

The next frame was taken near the window:

Again, in my opinion, it turned out better to convey the color and contrast in the Nexus 5, then the LG G2, and closes the Galaxy S4. Detail (you can call it sharpness) is slightly higher in the frame from the Nexus 5.

Nexus 5 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 3 - to your judgment.

An unpleasant feature Nexus 5 cameras can become a pink spot in both photo and video modes.

Video 5 shoots in FullHD 30 fps, regardless of the lighting level. The quality is good, there is stabilization, the sound is mono (very strange, considering the second microphone), clean, without overdrive. There is automatic focusing.

In conclusion of this section, I would like to say that the camera on the Nexus 5 with HDR + mode on this moment I have a priority, it is better to shoot, perhaps, only the Nokia 1020 or Samsung Note 3.

I will not describe the interface, since it is extremely simple.

The Nexus line of smartphones has already become as popular as the iPhone or Galaxy, and given its unbeatable price and wide range of features, this becomes obvious. The manufacturer of the phone, as before, was LG, which created the previous Nexus, commissioned by Google.

In the new model Nexus decided to change both the design and approach the trends. This is, first of all, about a five-inch display.
To be more precise, the diagonal of the smartphone screen is 4.95 inches with Full HD resolution. The screen is covered with Gorilla Glass 3. By the way, the display is very good in itself, in terms of color rendering it is even better than that of the LG G2.
It is even rumored that the LG G2 itself was the prototype for the creation of the Nexus 5, but holding both phones together is difficult to find any similarities.
Inside the Nexus 5 is the top-end Snapdragon 800 processor, and the latest Adreno 300 chip is responsible for the graphics.
The front of the Nexus 5 is very good-looking, there is nothing superfluous - no buttons, no thick bezels around the edges. And on top is a very nicely made round speaker and a front camera on the left. On the right side there is a power button, and under it is a microSIM slot. By the way, it was expected that there will be nano, but micro is left, but it's okay ...
The back of the Nexus 5 looks great too. The Nexus branding is located horizontally, and the LG logo below. Business card In terms of design, this smartphone can be called a huge edging of the main camera eye.
The body is made of rough SoftTouch plastic, which feels like durable cardboard to the touch. On the one hand, this is a plus, since such plastic does not get dirty, but on the other hand, if you drop it, the consequences will most likely be dire.
As for the color scheme, there are only two color variations of the Nexus 5 on sale - white and black, while the front of the case is black for both variations.
The Nexus 5 comes with Android 4.4 KitKat, the world's first phone with this system. The new version of Android has a lot of changes, in particular, the HDR + mode has appeared in the camera application, which does not combine two photos, as usual, but several at once. However, the camera is not the strongest point of the Nexus 5.
Another bad news about the Nexus 5 is that the battery miracle hasn't happened. There is a 2300 mAh battery, although the thickness of this smartphone is the same as that of the LG G2, which has a 3000 mAh battery.
The best part about the Nexus 5, however, is its price, given its specs. In the US, the version is 16 GB. memory costs only $ 350, the 32 GB variant. memory costs $ 50 more. Of course, this is the most cheap smartphone in its class. All other competitors cost about twice as much. So Nexus 5 is the best Android smartphone in a price-quality ratio.

It was Google Nexus 5 that was one of the most anticipated new smartphone products in the fall of 2013. As expected, the model has become even better in terms of its technical characteristics, while retaining its low cost. The supplier was again LG, which has recently been more and more pleased with its products. Let's see if the Nexus 5 can take the lead in its class in a detailed review.

Design

In appearance, the novelty has become less interesting, but more practical. As you know, Google Nexus 4 had a completely glass case, which, although it looked beautiful, but when dropped, for example, on a tile, this glass easily cracked and as a result the owner had to change the case at his own expense. Now the novelty is completely made of matte black plastic in its texture, reminiscent of that in the 2013 Nexus 7 tablet.

From interesting features In the case, it should be noted that all the control mechanical keys are made not of traditional plastic, but of ceramic, but in reality there is no particular difference. If you look at the dimensions, the model turned out to be not the most compact, but at the same time, the smartphone is comfortable in the hands, largely due to the low weight of 130 grams and small thickness.

Screen

The Google Phone is equipped with a 4.95-inch display covered with protective glass Gorilla Glass 3 with applied Full HD resolution, which gives a pixel density value of 445 PPi. The clarity is at a high level, and it is almost impossible to see individual points with the naked eye.

The matrix of the smartphone display is made according to IPS technology... This gives a good headroom and wide viewing angles. The only complaint about the device's screen is the poor display of a black tint, which will be especially noticeable in complete darkness, when instead of black, a gray tint will be displayed.

Iron

As you know, the basis for the Nexus 5 was the LG G2. It is not for nothing that the new creation from Google has exactly the same hardware in its characteristics. So, this is a bundle of a 4-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, clocked at 2.3 GHz and an Adreno 330 graphics accelerator. In terms of RAM, the device already offers quite standard 2 GB, but with the built-in one, not everything is so smooth, since only 2 are available. versions: 16 or 32 GB without the possibility of expansion with memory cards.

Therefore, if you are actively going to consume various content on the device, then, of course, you need to buy a modification with a large amount of memory, since the difference in price is not so big. In general, evaluating the overall performance of the Google Nexus 5, we can say with confidence that it is at an excellent level and there will be no problems when performing various tasks on the Google Phone.

Operating system

As it should be, the model has the latest version of Android 4.4 KitKat, which is presented in its original form, without any shells and add-ons. The speed of the system itself is commendable. Sometimes it seems that this is not Android. So everything is scrolled quickly and without the slightest lag.

If we briefly dwell on the main innovations of the new version of the "green robot", then the first striking is the change in the color shades of the interface itself. The already pretty good Android has gotten even better. It is also finally possible to hide the bottom status bar, which was especially disturbing in games. And, perhaps, the most important thing is the ability to launch voice commands using the Google now service, which only Moto X could offer before. In general, Android Kitkat makes a good impression and pleases that Google is constantly improving its operating system.

Camera

Despite the fact that the characteristics of the camera of the new Nexus 5 remain exactly the same 8-megapixel as its predecessor, the quality of the photos obtained has improved. This is largely due to the fact that now the camera module has optical image stabilization. As a result, the pictures come out pretty good, but if you compare the Googlephone camera with most modern flagship smartphones, then the advantage will clearly not be on the side of the Nexus 5.

Also, the standard camera menu, which is not very convenient, is not entirely pleasing. It will take some time to get used to it. For video recording, the device offers the ability to shoot video in 1080P format. The video quality is generally good and looks more interesting than the resulting photos. As it should be, in addition to the main camera, the device also offers a front one with a resolution of 1.2 megapixels, which does not boggle the imagination and is only suitable for making video calls.

Wireless interfaces

As expected, the model is equipped with all types of communications. These are Bluetooth 4.0, WI-FI, GPS, NFC, as well as support for LTE networks, which work perfectly in our country.

Battery

The built-in battery of the smartphone has a fairly standard capacity of 2300 mAh, which provides average results autonomous work... The device lasted a little over 5 hours in video playback mode, and about 3 hours in games only mode. As you can see, the results are not amazing. It is quite natural that with an active mode of use, the smartphone will be asked to charge in the late afternoon, although with a light load, you can achieve 2 days of work.

Price

At the moment, a smartphone from Google can be officially purchased for 18,000 rubles (16 GB). Even taking into account the overpriced price tag in Russia, such a cost looks good, and almost all direct competitors of the Nexus 5 will cost a little more. Although when ordering from America, the device will cost only $ 350, though without taking into account the delivery itself.

Conclusions of the Nexus 5 review

Despite some controversial points (not the best camera in terms of quality, not very capacious battery), Google Nexus 5 gives the impression of a high-quality device, the main advantage of which, in addition to a powerful processor and good display, will be the long term updates to the Android operating system and the price.

Greetings, dear users of the best mobile portal called Treshbox.ru. Today I have prepared for you detailed overview flagship in the fifth generation - LG Nexus 5. Surely it is known to many on Treshbox, so I will not rant about this topic... Read the review under the cut.

The smartphone was officially presented by Google on October 31, 2013 - on Halloween. The huge Android community was not surprised by the new product, since both live photos and technical specifications with a video demonstration of the work got to the world wide web before the official announcement. It's 2014 and LG Nexus 5 is still a confident flagship with excellent hardware and recognizable design.

Equipment

In a rather small box, made in the corporate style of Google, you can find, respectively, a smartphone, a USB cable, as well as a block for plugging into an outlet and further charging the device. Not too much, yes, but I had the headphones even before the purchase, so even if they are not even included in the package, it’s not a problem at all, and besides, many manufacturers shove ordinary plastic things there, which they also call headphones. Among the rest there are, of course, various instructions and a special clip for opening the SIM card tray.

The box itself has a striking appearance and stands out especially from the rest, since the overall design of the search giant is quite recognizable. Anyway, I'm glad that Google has finally decided to change the design of the boxes for branded mobile devices. I mean, one has only to remember the same box in which the first generation ASUS Nexus 7 tablet was sold - gloomy gray colors, sadness, sadness and decay. In the new devices, the boxes are excellent and bright, so in this case I will not say a word as a complaint.

Appearance and usability

The appearance of the LG Nexus 5 smartphone is pretty good, but still Google did not introduce any proprietary design delights in order to highlight its own new flagship among the rest of its brethren. It is worth noting, of course, the recently sold case colors, as well as the "Nexus" brand inscription on the rear panel, similar to ASUS tablet Second generation Nexus 7. Thus, the search giant is trying to create a consistent design for its mobile devices, and I do not think this is bad at all.

The body of the flagship is made of glass and soft touch plastic. Note, with daily use rear panel seriously gets dirty, but I do not attach much importance to this, since in order to identify these very fingerprints and other things, you need to look closely and find fault, they say, the body sucks and the like. Yes, some people do this, but I am not one of them. It is worth paying tribute to the manufacturer, because scratches on the back panel do not remain even if you do it deliberately - it pleases. The color of the case is true black, it looks strict and stylish, it is comfortable in the hands. True, earlier I did not get the opportunity to twist a 5-inch device in my hands, and at first it was a little spadey for me, but soon I got used to it. He does not strive to slip out of his hands, which is very, very pleasing. The build quality is undeniably excellent, and for the price it is generally gorgeous. In general, there is only one minor drawback - the buttons for controlling the volume and turning on / off the device, so to speak, "go".

There are no control keys under the display, because they are all displayed on the screen - this type of operating system control Android company Google has adopted since Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. For some, it may be a disadvantage that they think there is too much space under the screen, but there is an LED hidden there, which notifies the user of messages, calls and other events, so again, I don’t think this is downright important. There is a place under the screen, but it is occupied by a useful thing, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Above the screen is a conversational and rather loud speaker, a front-facing camera with a resolution of 1.3 megapixels (by the way, it shoots quite good quality photos) and standard sensors.

On the back you'll find an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash and OIS, the Nexus branding, the manufacturer's (LG's) logo and certification data.

On the bottom edge there is a connector for USB connection and further charging, or synchronization with a computer, the main speaker and microphone - both of them are hidden under the mesh and this whole picture looks like stereo speakers, but there was no such thing. On the side faces, the standard volume control buttons and smartphone on / off buttons have taken their place. It is worth noting that the material from which they are made is ceramics, which is why they are very pleasant to the touch, and the pressing stroke is clear and even if you listen to it, it is audible. The only downside is that I already mentioned some time ago - the movement of these same buttons, but it doesn't matter - in everyday use this is not noticed and is not taken into account. On the top edge there is only a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The last thing I would like to say: the LG Nexus 5 smartphone cannot be called a fat club, its body is quite thin and for this reason it will perfectly fit in the pocket of a jacket or work jeans. You will not feel any discomfort while wearing.

Screen

The flagship LG Nexus 5 is equipped with a very bright 5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels (FullHD). This is not to say that the display reproduces unnatural colors or its brightness is insufficient for outdoor use, but there are disadvantages - viewing angles. When viewed from different angles, you can see color distortion as well as general color loss. I don’t know about you, but I use a smartphone holding it in my hands at a distance of about 20 centimeters and with slight turns the display shows a picture sufficient in clarity and color. The brightness range, by the way, is high. When set to maximum brightness, the screen remains legible even in direct sunlight. The minimum brightness level is not to say that it is high for reading in the dark, but also not too low - it seems to be something in between. In any case, in complete darkness you may experience some discomfort, but if at least a ray of light from the next room falls into yours or your floor lamp is on, reading comfort at minimum brightness is ensured.

The clarity is undoubtedly high, as the pixel density of the display is 445 dots per square inch. On a 5-inch display, you won't be able to find a single pixel, which means the picture will be clear and bright, and it is. When reading the text, it does not dazzle in the eyes, because it feels like it is comparable to a magazine. If you have another mobile device with a display resolution lower than the LG Nexus 5 - moving from it to the second one you will experience some discomfort and it will obviously be felt. Overall, the screen is excellent for its price point. The color rendition is decent, and regular user is unlikely to watch films at an angle of 180 degrees. The sensor supports more than ten clicks and the response is very fast. Only by starting to point your finger at the object displayed on the screen, the smartphone will already begin to understand what you want. I give the sensor 5 points and 5 (the rating system will not hurt).

System

As you already know, or may not know, the LG Nexus 5 smartphone was officially presented based on the new Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, which has acquired a slightly redesigned user interface, support for working with devices with at least 512 MB of RAM, and the ability to choose the application runtime - Dalvik or ART. Naturally, you will not find any shells or interface add-ons that take up several gigabytes of internal memory in the flagship of Google - it is equipped with the pure interface that the search giant sees it. Personally, since the introduction of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, I loved the design of the Holo, which I see to this day. Yes, there are some jambs in the elements, but over time, I hope all this will be improved.

It is worth noting that the smartphone has a launcher that is no longer exclusive to it, called Google now Launcher or for Russian users just Google Start. Let me remind you that some time ago Google officially finalized it and published it in its own Google Play application store. It is currently available for installation only on devices from the Google Nexus line, as well as a special release called Google Play Edition. But don't be discouraged - in the near future there will be an update that will bring support for other mobile devices based on the Android operating system. Here are a couple more screenshots.

Performance

The LG Nexus 5 smartphone has the following specifications: a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with an operating frequency of 2.3 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, 16/32 GB of internal memory (without a slot for microSD memory cards), and Adreno 330 acts as a graphics accelerator ...

This hardware, in my opinion, will be relevant for the next year and a half, remember the same Samsung GALAXY S5, which practically does not differ in terms of hardware from the competitor from Google that I am reviewing. Naturally, all toys are included, be it the trendy Real Racing 3, Dead Trigger 2, Asphalt 8 and others. In some respects, the brainchild of the search giant can be called a gaming device, but here, too, there were some drawbacks, of course. When chipping in cool toys for more than half an hour, the back panel becomes a frying pan for scrambled eggs preparing for frying on the stove - this is figuratively speaking, so do not take it seriously. I managed to achieve a heating rate of 43 degrees, while the maximum level for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series processor is 45 degrees. Perhaps this is a significant drawback if you are going to play the latest 3D games every day, but there is another one - a battery, but more on that later. Now let's take a look at the results of the rest of the benchmarks and tests.

Autonomy of work

Many complained about the battery of the LG Nexus 5 smartphone due to the fact that its capacity is 2300 mAh and it is sorely lacking for everything: games, movies, music, surfing during world wide web and, of course, calls and messages. I'll tell you this: with my settings, the smartphone lasts for one day or more (plus or minus a couple of hours). Of course, it will not do without proprietary tests, which were carried out for us by people in white coats. Thus, you can talk in third-generation networks for 16 hours 37 minutes, surf the Internet for about 4 hours 48 minutes, and watch movies for 6 hours.

As I said, the smartphone only heats up when running heavy toys and various benchmarks in general, which squeeze all the juices out of the processor and other components. You know, in winter it will serve as a good home stove for you, but since winter has already passed in my city, there is no point in heating the device for me now. As for games, an active ruby will not last long - about three hours, to which you answer: "fu, the bottom, the battery sucks, but I wanted to buy it, now I won't." As you know, this is your opinion and I will not condemn it. With my settings, let me remind you that the smartphone lives for one day. From eight in the morning, using calls, the Internet, a little music, a little games, LG Nexus 5 begins to complain about the discharging battery by late night (the battery falls asleep, the mafia wakes up, which endlessly demands a charger from you). Thus, I put it on at night - I use it in the morning, afternoon and evening, and then again in the second round. By the way, the runtime is installed by ART. After Dalvik, the increase in autonomy was significant.

Cameras

Google's fifth-generation flagship is equipped with an 8-megapixel sensor with OIS. There is also an LED flash, which, if necessary, fulfills its purpose perfectly. The camera takes high quality and detailed photos. Indeed, after the release of the minor update, the bugs from the camera were cut out - this is obvious. Autofocus, by the way, would not hurt to be a little faster, but while you stand and focus, the whole oil painting will flow into being. When using the flash in low light conditions, the camera behaves well, focused objects do not overexpose. The front camera has a 1.3 megapixel sensor, but surprisingly, the photos are very decent. In any case, enough for video calls or conferences.

As a text, I decided to take a photo of my clumsy handwriting;)

Photos from the front camera show good performance. You can check out my cat playing with flowers in the kitchen :)

Outcome

In my city, the LG Nexus 5 smartphone is sold in retail stores at a price of 17,990 rubles. I believe that the price tag is justified: stylish design, high-quality assembly, excellent hardware, good camera, support from Google. In general, I do not regret buying at all, general impression from using only positive.

Pros:

  • Design
  • Powerful and up-to-date hardware
  • Bright and high quality display
  • Build quality
  • Good cameras
  • Excellent touch response
  • Does not slip out of hands
  • OS support and updates from Google
Minuses:
  • The buttons are moving
  • Dust lives between the glass and the frame
  • Protruding camera module (very easy to scratch when placed on a flat surface)
  • Medium speaker (a little hiss at maximum volume, but no one canceled the detailed setting through the equalizer, which, by the way, I did not use)
  • Soiled and fingerprint-collecting case
  • Autofocus could have been washed down and faster
The smartphone is provided by Ivan Shevelev for the best mobile portal.
