Phone Alcatel he is a touch idol. Alcatel OneTouch Idol X - Specifications

ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol Mini is compact smartphone from the Idol line. It is not devoid of the corporate identity of the company, which makes it look great. Unfortunately, it was not without simplification, they affected the processor and RAM. Let's see what this smartphone is capable of.

ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol Mini is made in a style similar to other ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol models, which is good. The design of the smartphone is recognizable and distinctive. The case is non-separable, perfectly assembled and very thin, by the way, the thickness is only 7.9 mm. The smartphone is 127.1 mm long, 62 mm wide and weighs 97 grams. With such parameters, the smartphone is practically not felt in a pants pocket.

The location of the keys and interfaces is as follows: at the top of the front panel there is a light sensor, a proximity sensor, a voice speaker, a 0.3 MP front camera and an indicator of missed events. At the bottom of the front panel there are three backlit hardware touch keys. At the ends of the smartphone there is a power button and a 3.5 mm jack (top), microUSB and the main microphone (bottom), a slot for micro-SIM and microSD (right) and a volume rocker on the left (left). On back cover there is a camera lens, it protrudes somewhat above the surface of the body and has a silvery rim, flash, second microphone, manufacturer's logo and a multimedia speaker. The back cover is made of plastic imitating metal. Cover prints are only visible from a certain angle and can be easily erased.

In general, there are no critical remarks about the ergonomics of the smartphone. The connector covers fit securely and tightly. It is convenient to use the smartphone with one hand, even despite the location of the power button on the top end. Mechanical keys have a tight, but well-defined stroke. The slim body, light weight and pleasant materials make the device a pleasure to use.

Operating system and shell

The smartphone is running an operating room Android systems 4.2.2 using its own interface. The branded shell is pleasant to look at and is to some extent a symbiosis of MIUI and Android Jelly Bean.

The interface is almost completely the same as that of the older models. The lock screen can hold up to nine widgets from which you can go to full screen mode... In addition to widgets, there are four icons on the lock screen (dialing, messages, camera and unlocking), which are enclosed in a circle. Selecting icons and unlocking the smartphone is carried out using a small circle. It also changes its location relative to the tilt of the body thanks to the built-in accelerometer. This feature looks interesting and funny. By the way, during charging, the charge level is indicated in the middle of the circle. Without unlocking your smartphone, you can go to the notification panel and mode switches. It is not possible to change and move the mode switching icons.

After unlocking, we find ourselves on one of five desktops, where widgets and program icons are located. For older models, this is the main menu, while for Idol MINI it is just a desktop with widgets and program shortcuts. Folders can be created on the desktop by dragging and dropping application shortcuts. When you long press on the widget, sliders appear, with which you can change the size of the widget.

By clicking on the icon located in the lower right corner, we get to the applications menu. The application menu has three tabs: general programs, downloaded programs and widgets. Despite the refusal of some manufacturers from a larger number of preinstalled programs, ALCATEL ONE TOUCH did not follow this path and installed a large number of programs, fortunately, they can be easily removed. Among the preinstalled programs, you can find antivirus, an office application, a large number of social services and almost all services from Google. There is a possibility to block notifications from selected programs, as well as to select a memory where applications will be installed.

The interface works well, jerking is rare, but in cases of launching a heavy application and then exiting it, the desktop shortcuts are redrawn.

As standard keyboard SwiftKey is installed. The browser loads pages quickly, its work is not satisfactory.

I would like to note that some standard applications redrawn according to the general design style. Among them are the compass, calculator, flashlight and radio.

Hardware platform

It should be noted that the smartphone can be presented in two versions 6012X and 6012D. The first version with the 6012X index is distinguished by the presence of one SIM card, a microSD slot, and 4 GB of internal memory. The version with the index 6012D already has two slots for SIM cards, 8 GB of internal memory, but there is no microSD slot.

ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol Mini is based on the budget MT6572 SoC from MediaTek. This processor built on 28 nm process technology, has two Cortex A7 cores with a frequency of 1.3 GHz. The well-known Mali 400 MP acts as a video accelerator. Although this SoC is considered budgetary, it demonstrates good results in synthetic tests. Volume random access memory modest by the standards of the end of 2013, and is 512 MB. During normal use, there was no more than 140 MB of RAM remaining. The built-in storage is 4 GB, of which about 2 GB is available to the user.

This smartphone is not positioned as a gaming one, but, nevertheless, the performance will be sufficient for undemanding games.

The volume and sound quality of the speakers is good. Thanks to the well-thought-out location of the loudspeaker, it will be difficult to miss a call, since even when the phone is on the table, the loudspeaker does not overlap. The microphone transmits speech with high quality. The sound in the headphones is good.

During most tasks, the body of the smartphone did not heat up. Work in Wi-Fi networks did not raise any questions, everything works quickly and without interruptions in the connection. Searching for satellites is slightly faster than other devices with MediaTek chipsets.

Autonomy

ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol Mini shows average autonomy results. A rechargeable battery with a capacity of 1700mAh is hidden inside the thin case. With average loads, such as: about an hour of calls, constantly switched on data transfer - the smartphone is able to hold out for a day. If the device is used more actively, then it is likely that it will not last until the end of the working day. There is a power saving mode. The results of the autonomy tests can be found below.

When playing a video from Youtube, the display brightness is set to 50%, the sound volume in the headphones is set to 12 out of 15 possible levels.

Display and cameras

Nowadays, even budget smartphones have begun to equip IPS displays. ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol Mini boasts a 4.3-inch IPS-display with a resolution of 854 × 480 pixels, there is an automatic brightness control sensor. The display accepts up to five simultaneous clicks. The viewing angles of the screen are close to maximum, the colors are juicy, the brightness is high. The display fades in the sun, but the information remains readable. The maximum brightness is 394 cd / m², the average brightness is 199 cd / m², and the minimum is 43 cd / m². An overestimated minimum value negatively affects the use of the device in the dark. The smartphone screen displays shades of gray somewhat darker than they should be. The color gamut is only slightly above the sRGB value. But if you do not find fault, then the smartphone is equipped with an excellent display for its price category.

ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol Mini has two cameras of 5 MP and 0.3 MP. As mentioned above, you can call the camera from the lock screen. The camera interface is simple and intuitive. The video is recorded at 720p.

The camera has an HDR mode, panorama and night. In addition, in the settings, you can change the flash mode, turn on the timer and select the size of photos. Examples of photos can be found below.

The camcorder settings are even simpler. They only have a choice of quality and a flash mode.

Outcomes

ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol Mini is a pleasant smartphone, which first of all differs from competitors by its attractive design, high-quality display, good assembly and a beautiful visual shell. The disadvantages include a small amount of RAM.

According to TCT Mobile, the smartphone will be sold in Ukraine in a version with two SIM-cards. The recommended retail price will be UAH 1399, and the start of sales is scheduled for December 2013.

Introduction

At the 2013 Mobile World Congress (MWC) international exhibition, Alcatel, which manufactures products under the TCL Communication brand in China, presented two original smartphone: Alcatel One Touch Idol and Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra. The originality lies in the fact that they have a very slim body and low weight. For example, the thickness of the younger Idol model is 7.9 mm, and the older one is only 6.45 mm, which makes the Idol Ultra the most thin smartphone in the world. Both gadgets weigh less than 110 grams, provided that the size of the diagonals is more than 4.5 inches.

As for the technical characteristics, they, from my point of view, are quite common at the moment: they are equipped with a dual-core processor and a MediaTek MT6577 chipset; Idol and Idol Ultra have one gigabyte of RAM on board; both devices have 8 MP cameras and two microphones. The essential difference is that in Ultra the screen is made using SuperAMOLED technology and the resolution is 720x1280 pixels (HD), and in the simplified version it is IPS and the screen resolution is 540x960 pixels (qHD).

The cost of the devices is already known. Smartphone Alcatel Idol will be sold for 10,000 rubles, Alcatel Idol Ultra for 13,000 rubles. Will go on sale at the end of the first quarter of this year.

Since I had non-commercial models on my hands, I decided to write this text in the style of my first acquaintance. As soon as it becomes possible to take commercial samples and there is more time for research, then I will try to write a full review.

Design, dimensions, controls

Both devices are made of different types of plastic. For example, the edging and the back of Idol are made of semi-glossy plastic (in my case, gray), while the Idol Ultra has a thin chrome edging around the perimeter of the front panel, the side edges and the back side are plastic (in my case, black), covered with "soft -tach ".

Dimensions "idol" - 133x67.5x7.9 mm, weight - 109 grams. The dimensions of the "ultra idol" are 134.4x68.5x6.45 mm, the weight, unfortunately, is not indicated, but it feels about the same as in Idol. The devices fit equally well in the hand, the difference in thickness, frankly speaking, is leveled. The screens are probably protected by glass, since not a single scratch appeared in a couple of days of active use.

Since the cases of the gadgets are monolithic, and the assembly is good, no backlash or squeaks are observed. The rear panels do not flex up to the battery.

Top of the front panel: front cameras, light and proximity sensors, speakers. There are touch buttons under the screens. If on Idol they are barely noticeable, then on Idol Ultra they are not visible. Further, I will describe the arrangement of the elements separately, because in each of the devices it is different.

Alcatel Idol... Below are microUSB and a microphone, on top - a standard 3.5 mm audio output and an on / off button practically recessed into the body. On the left, under the retractable flap, is a slot for a microSD memory card, on the right is the same type of connector for a microsim card and a thin rocker volume rocker. On the back there is a slightly raised camera module, framed by a chrome ring, a second microphone and a flash.

Idol and iPhone 4s

Idol and Samsung S III

Alcatel Idol Ultra... The microphone is on the bottom end, on the top there is a power on / off button for the phone and microUSM under a plastic flap. A thin and long rocker key is on the left, and on the right is the same type of slot for a microsim card as on Idol. The camera module, microphone and LED light are located on the back of the smartphone.

Displays

V Alcatel smartphone Idol has a 4.7-inch screen diagonal, the resolution is 540x960 pixels, the density is 234 pixels per inch. The matrix is made using IPS technology and is capable of displaying 16 million color shades. The quality of the screen, in my opinion, is very good: wide viewing angles, there are no purple and yellow tints at certain tilts of the display. At the corners, the brightness of the picture decreases slightly. The touch layer is of a capacitive type, supports "multitouch" up to 5 simultaneous touches.

The Alcatel Idol Ultra device uses a higher quality screen: a diagonal of 4.65 inches, a resolution of 720x1280 (HD), a density of 315 pixels per inch. If the first Idol contains IPS matrix, then Ultra - SuperAMOLED with the notorious PenTile.

Idol Ultra Matrix

Naturally, such a matrix gives the maximum black color, but slightly distorts other colors due to a higher saturation, which cannot be set here, unlike Samsung smartphones. As a SuperAMOLED fan, I would choose the Idol Ultra. The touch layer is also capacitive, but supports 6 simultaneous touches.

Viewing angles of the Idol screen

Viewing angles of the Idol Ultra screen

Battery

Both devices have the same lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery with a capacity of 1820 mAh. It is worth paying tribute to the developers who were able to fit such batteries into the case thickness of 7.9 and 6.45 mm.

The official figures are as follows:

  • Idol - 7 hours talk time, 415 hours standby, 45 hours music and 2.5 hours charge
  • Idol Ultra - 16 hours talk time, 700 hours standby, 20 hours music and 4 hours charge

Interestingly, where did such not sickly results from "Ultra" come from? Is it really such a gluttonous SuperAMOLED screen? Unfortunately, I could not test it, but I received data from Idol: video (HD at maximum brightness and at maximum volume in headphones) - about 3 hours, music - just over 30 hours. The average time for most Android smartphones is around 9-10 hours.

Communication capabilities

Phones works in cellular networks 2G (GSM / GPRS / EDGE, 850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and 3G (850/900/2100 MHz). In stock Bluetooth version 4.0 for file and voice transfer. Present wireless connection Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b / g / n. The devices, of course, can be used as an access point (Wi-Fi Hotspot) or modem. USB 2.0 (High-Speed) is used for file transfer and data synchronization.

Settings

Memory and memory card

Both the older and younger models have 1 GB of RAM (it was said earlier that Idol has 512 MB of RAM). Free about 600 MB. Since the Idol Ultra does not have a slot for a memory card, it uses a 16 GB flash, about 13 GB is available. From my point of view, for this class of devices, 16 GB should be enough for most purposes. Idol has a 4 GB "flash", 2.5 GB is free, plus there is a slot for microSDHC.

Cameras

Both smartphones are equipped with two camera modules: 8 MP main and front - 2 MP for Idol and 1.3 MP for Idol Ultra. The quality of the cameras is the same: good detail, natural colors, wide enough dynamic range, relatively fast focus. In the light, the photos come out cool, in the room the small matrix of the camera makes itself felt - colored noise comes out. In the dark outside, the camera copes even better than indoors with lighting. By the way, the lens aperture in both gadgets is f2.2!

Smartphones record video mediocre - practically, like all devices on MTK6577: low detail, poor sound.

Performance

When I found out that these new products include the outdated MediaTek MT6577 chipset, I was overwhelmed with sadness… There is no point in talking about it in detail, since every second review on our website for the last six months has been devoted to smartphones based on this chip. I refer you to the following texts:

I use this beast for a week. I bought it in black. Looks great, much more expensive than its value. Assembled very high quality. Covers cannot be found on sale, you can only order from China. While I bought a universal book, the cover is a little too big, but not scary. The power of electronics is felt in everything. In games like Asphalt 8, of course, it heats up, but from experience I can say that some other models, which are more expensive and less powerful, heat up more. The battery lasts for 30-40 minutes of conversations a day, constant mobile internet and constantly switched on Wi-fi, high brightness of the display, games no more than half an hour or an hour for almost a day. Yesterday I left it with 35% in the evening, at night I disconnected myself. Although I was in standby mode. Perhaps the native firmware is to blame. The quality of the camera puts on the blades of many competitors a higher price. The screen is juicy, bright, clear. Official update to 4.4 Kitkat is coming soon. The manufacturer, unlike HTC, does not abandon its customers, it supports. This is great. Serves faithfully for 4 years! The battery just started to run out faster, the performance dropped, the body jerked. Otherwise, everything is fine. Everything is native!

Eh, Alcatel missed .. and why did they put the ES9018 Saber DAC, all the same housewives do not know what it is. People, this is the MUSophone in the first place. With a top-end DAC and a good amplifier. And for vkontakte there are better ones. Although he did not lose his face, the responsiveness of the interface is better than his wife's S7, the screen is simply chic, I saw about the same color rendering on the LG G2, ideal

I have been using it for almost 3 years. android 4.2 is frankly outdated. the charge keeps the day, almost all applications run without strong brakes, but not without glitches, of course.

At first they gave me this phone, but a year later it broke down and fell on the screen. I bought the same one and broke down again a year later. Again, the sensor. The camera and flash did not work for half a year, recently it kept charging badly. But I think all these problems are my fault), on the whole, I really like the device. Camera 13.1 was more than fine with me. The screen is very large. Works fast, doesn't buggy. You just need not to download everything like me)

The first problems began after 2 years of operation. The SIM card slot stopped working, or rather lived my life. The screen shows 2 SIM cards (active), but the call was not made and, accordingly, received. Factory reset didn't help. I measured it, let it be "one-symbolic". But then it went like a snowball. The laminated film on the back cover peeled off, and the phone itself began to turn off (full charge). One day he never turned on. V service center diagnosed - the board flew. Make a conclusion.

I lived a little more than a year of careful operation (I would have died 2 weeks earlier, they would have done it under warranty), I will not say that the model is unsuccessful, maybe I was just not lucky ...

Almost 2 years of operation. The first half of the operation is completely problem-free. With "office" operation plus games like card games, charging every 2 days. The performance is enough for everything ( heavy games No). The glass and body are durable. Doesn't die inside wet pockets (fishing in the rain). Unless the body slides on any table: it’s problematic to lean against something at lunch, all one moves out :) After a year of operation, the battery and (IMHO) the GPS module begin to degrade. Sometimes the SIM card slot # 1 began to give an error. Now charge at least once a day. Satellites are lost every 10-15 minutes. The body in the upper part is very hot. After another fall, a layer of laminating plastic peeled off at the back, over time, the rags grow. The phone is reliable, it worked honestly, the money, once spent on it, is quite worth it

I really liked the smartphone externally and internally, also a very attractive price - 11,500, for 13,000 I would strongly think. Ideally, I wanted a Huawei Honor 6, on Ali in October it cost around 14 tr., After the dollar went up in November - 16 tr. lack of warranty and so on. So I started looking for an official phone number. Until this year, I used SGSIVmini-everything was fine except for the absence of the 2nd sim card and the screen size. I decided not to overpay for the brand - smartphones from other manufacturers (Sony, Samsung, LG, not to mention Iphone) with similar characteristics cost at least 15 tr. As for the camera, I can not attribute it to the plus or minus of the smartphone. She's kind of mediocre. I will not say that the photos are better than on the Samsung 8 Mpix camera. It should be noted that in the camera settings there is a maximum resolution of 9.4 megapixels (everywhere in the specifications and in Antutu - 13.1 megapixels). Regardless, the photo editor has a wide range of tools that I liked. P.s. I have been using it for a year and a half.

In the mid-price category, you rarely find a device with a record figure in any sense. But Alcatel One Touch Ultra at the time of release was the thinnest smartphone: its thickness is some six and a half millimeters, which is less than that of Apple iPhone 5. At the same time, in domestic stores, it costs about 2700 hryvnia (10800 rubles).

Design and construction

The thickness is really comfortable: the smartphone can easily fit into the tight pocket of women's jeans and does not really stick out from there. In the same way, it can be located in the pocket of a light summer T-shirt or shirt: with the exception of the module of the main camera that rises slightly above the surface, the phone is really very elegant.

And thanks to this it looks more beautiful than the average Android "remnant". Although here everything depends on taste. Compared to the huge devices with screen sizes 5.5 and higher, which flooded our edition this summer (that is, most likely, the market too), OneTouch looks small. It fits perfectly in a woman's hand, while the second hand is not required to control the main actions.

Although, say, reaching for the off button located on the upper edge is not so easy with my type of grip. However, “my type” was developed over a year of working with the iPhone 4s, which is still much smaller in thickness and height.

The back of the device is made of dark gray plastic, Android buttons are visible only when the screen is active, bordered by a medium-thick frame.

The cover is non-removable, the slot for a SIM-card (micro format) can be found under a tight cap on the right side. There is a volume rocker on the left, and on top, next to the power key, there is a microUSB connector also hidden under a flap.

"Where is the audio jack?" - you probably ask. But he is not here. I suspect that a headset is also supplied with the smartphone, which is connected to the device via an adapter to the audio output, but I cannot say this: we got an engineering sample for testing. Most likely, the presence of a light stripe visible at the point of articulation of the screen with the body of a light strip is connected with the "presale", it is unlikely that such a specific decoration will appear in the versions for sale. But a slot for a memory card will not appear: you will have to be content with those 16 gigabytes that the manufacturer has endowed OneTouch Ultra.

The assembly of the smartphone is normal, I didn't like this dubious line of light, and even a small gap between the screen and the top edge, and even inconvenient plugs. However, with a high degree of probability, these may be disadvantages of a particular industrial design. In general, the gadget seems monolithic, and the subtlety gives it a certain beauty.

Display

The display is on a level here, I must say. It is made with Super Amoled technology and has wide viewing angles. On the street on a sunny day, you can see it not that well, but you can see something at maximum brightness, fortunately, it is high here.

Contrast measurements showed close to ideal blacks, and as a result this parameter was very good at 10394: 1. Not infinity, like some new Samsung devices, but to a certain extent, not far from it.

Measurements also showed that the color gamut of the screen is adequate, the screen gives out a good green color, but is not calibrated the best way... A resolution of 720x1280 pixels for a 4.65-inch screen is a clear picture with a high pixel density (315 ppi). Feels like the colors are very juicy, but somewhat unnatural. But, thanks to the contrast, it looks good on the display text information... Yes and bright picture interesting, many users will like it.

System and performance

MTK6577 Cortex-A9 1.2 GHz with two cores was average a year ago, but today it is, if not yet a budget, then a processor close to it in speed. Equipped with a gigabyte of RAM, the smartphone, as expected, lacks stars: the results of performance measurements are very average. Let's say Dead Trigger and Real Racing 3 slow down. So those who like to play 3D games on smartphones are better off looking at other solutions. True, casual people may well be satisfied: angry birds look very attractive on a contrasting, bright and large enough screen with a deep black color, and the weakness of the processor does not interfere with their flight. The Android 4.1.1 interface is somehow in no rush. More precisely, it does not slow down, but it also does not fly. The interface here, by the way, is standard in features, but slightly different in the picture. They reminded me a little of the drawing of iOS, Meego and modern non-smartphone Nokia at the same time. In general, a nice drawing, pleasant. I was surprised by the main screen: you can open the smartphone from the main desktop, but for some reason a camera is drawn (it's not clear without trying!), Or you can immediately launch the call menu, SMS or camera.

Also, the smartphone supports gestures. Which? But such as in the screenshots below.

The device is also not ideal as a multimedia combine. The first reason is the lack of a proper headphone jack. The second is that the smartphone does not support movies in HD quality. However, it is, it is unlikely that someone will lose much if they compress videos to an acceptable format. Finally, the third reason is the 13 GB available to the user from the 16 GB storage. For those who are used to carrying a lot of information in a smartphone, it will not be enough. By the way, One Touch Ultra is equipped with a radio, but due to the lack of a headset, we were not able to test its operation. For the same reason, it is difficult to tell how the built-in player sounds. On an external speaker - bearable, as for such a thin device, but who will listen to music on an external speaker?

Camera

The eight megapixel camera clearly requires perfect lighting. The slightest deviation from it - and the photos are very grainy. The color rendition here is pleasant, the module copes well with macro photography (with good lighting, naturally). Focusing is fast, and you can choose that part of the picture on which, in fact, the camera will focus. But in general - average.

An example of video recording with the built-in camera

And one more example of filming (in the evening)

Autonomy and heating

With an average load of the smartphone (20 minutes telephone conversations, SMS, periodic internet) was enough just until the evening, but if you watch the video and play more often, the 1800 mAh battery was discharged a little faster. However, for the class "very thin," it is quite normal.

The phone heats up quite noticeably in the upper part, especially during tests or games. At rest, it is cool enough.

Competitors

Among the competitors, there are several "oldies" who are still on the move. For example, Sony Xperia S or Huawei Ascend P1, Samsung Galaxy Nexus. And also - the expected novelty, which is also distinguished by a very thin waist. But it will be more expensive, at least at the start of sales.

In the dry residue

I doubt Alcatel has succeeded in creating an idol in the face of this smartphone, regardless of its name. Nevertheless, for a user who is interested in subtlety and attractive design in conjunction with good screen The Alcatel OneTouch Idol Ultra might be to your liking. Naturally, one should remember about its average performance and the absence of a memory card slot and (a real annoyance!) Minijack.

3 reasons to buy the Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra:

  • Very thin and lightweight body;
  • good screen;
  • nice design.

3 reasons not to buy the Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra:

  • Lack of audio output;
  • mediocre hardware filling;
  • lack of a slot for a memory card.
