How to set a username and password on a computer. What is login and username when registering? How to come up with a login and password for registration

When you need to come up with a striking and unique username, you have two challenges. On the one hand, you need a name that allows you to stand out and reflects your personality. On the other hand, you should not disclose too much personal information so that hackers do not take advantage of it. So keep safety in mind when you come up with a username or use a name generator for yourself, but otherwise, let your imagination run wild!

Steps

Use your imagination

    Find out what the site rules regarding usernames. Before you come up with a stunning name, make sure you can use it! For example, on many sites you cannot use as username obscene words or part of the password.

    • Even if the site does not prohibit the use of personal information, such as full date of birth or home address, from a security point of view, it is a very bad idea to include it in the username.
  1. Play with your name. Consider using rhyme (for example, "sasharasteryasha" or "Marinka Mandarinka") or alliteration ("ironic" or "VityazVitya"). By themselves, these techniques are not unique, but the result can be a wonderful original name.

    • You can use your full name, any of the diminutives, or even a middle name as a basis.
  2. Combine two or more things that you like. Just write a list of what you like and then combine two or three items into a username. In this way, you can create strange, absurd names that are more likely to be one of a kind.

    • For example, if you like pandas and killer whales, you can call yourself "Whale Panda", and if you want to make the name sound more aggressive - "Killer Panda".
    • Try using your favorite objects from completely different categories. For example, if you like soccer and quantum physics, you might call yourself "Quantum Goalkeeper."
  3. Combine your favorite activity with a number that matters to you. A username based on your favorite activity will not only be easy to remember but also truly unique and personal to you. You will most likely need to add a number, as many users adopt names this way and you need to be different from other "jugglers" or "photographers".

    • You can combine the activity with your year of birth - for example, "climber86" or "gardener91".
    • If you do not want to use the year of birth for security reasons, choose a different set of numbers that are meaningful to you. For example, if you remember forever how you first participated in a dance competition in 2014, you can call yourself "rumba14".
  4. Think about your special habit or unusual interest. Like most people, you probably have a couple of interests, qualities, feelings, or habits that your friends and family only associate with you. They are the ones that make you stand out from the crowd and therefore can serve as an excellent basis for a username.

    • For example, if you like to stomp to the beat of your thoughts, you can take the name "ToptyzhkaTanya".
    • It is not necessary to be the only carrier of such qualities. For example, if all your friends love oranges, but you just adore them, then your exceptional love for these fruits may be the reason to call yourself "orange".
  5. Combine the thing you like or your interest with an adjective. Take a piece of paper and divide it into two columns. In the left column, write a list of adjectives (funny, lazy, brave, sarcastic, and so on) that you might describe yourself as. In the right column, write down the things you enjoy, such as your favorite activities, favorite animals, or desserts that you have a fondness for. Then pair words from the first and second columns until you get the perfect match!

    • Usernames are often created according to the adjective + noun pattern - say, "Sly Fox" or "Angry Chocolate." So the idea itself is not unique, but it can give a unique result.
  6. Make sure your name sounds in line with the impression you want to make. Perhaps you want your username to be perceived as stupid and funny, or, conversely, evoke dark associations. Consider this when coming up with name variations, and especially when making the final choice.

    • For example, a writer might choose the username "CaffeinePisaka" or "Fire_and_Feather" - and they would be two completely different writers!

Remember safety

  1. Get yourself as many different names as you can remember. For added security, use a separate username for each site, application, or platform. If one of your accounts is hacked by hackers, they won't be able to use your data to gain access to the rest.

    • For maximum security, use a password manager that generates custom names and passwords in a completely random way and stores them securely. One of the well-known services of this type is LastPass.
    • Hackers can use information from a compromised account to guess the name and password for accounts on other sites or in social networks.
  2. Use different usernames for different categories of accounts If you want to use fewer usernames, at least use different usernames for different categories of sites or applications. For example, use one name for social media, another for gaming sites, one for educational sites, and so on.

    • However, never use the same username and password combination.
    • Having a different username for each category of accounts will make them easier to remember and at the same time reduce the potential damage from a hacker attack.
  3. Use your full name for professional purposes only. It may seem to you that the username "Andrey Kuznetsov" contains little personal information, but if a hacker needs it, he can learn more about you based on the name alone. However, for professional purposes, it is still better to call yourself by your full name, so do so, but only use it for this category.

  4. Do not mix numbers from your address, phone number, or documents. Adding numbers is an easy way to make your username unique, but don't give a hacker a single bit of your personal information. With only a few digits of your phone number, TIN or SNILS in hand, an experienced hacker can find important information about you.

    • Ideally, you shouldn't use the day or year you were born either. And you certainly should not indicate the full date, for example "IvanBeliaev241183".
    • Instead, use numbers that are meaningful to you but don't tell the outsider, such as the age when you first kissed, your the best time in a marathon or your grandmother's house number.
  5. Don't use your address Email as the username. For example, if your address is [email protected], do not use "DimDimych429" as a username in gaming, finance and other accounts. Let your email address always be different from your username.

    • This is another easy way to complicate things for potential hackers.

Use a name generator

  1. Try different custom name generators to find the one that works best for you. Many sites offer username generators. Popular ones include Jimpix, BestRandoms, Screen Name Creator. Try a few different generators and see if you like the result!

    • Below you will learn how to use the popular Spin XO generator. It allows you to specify various words and characteristics, based on which it composes a new username, and then checks it for uniqueness.
    • This does not mean that Spin XO is the best generator or that you should definitely use it. We just took it as an example; the process will be approximately the same for all services of this type.

If you are an active user of the Internet, then you have probably come across such concepts as "login" and "password". The fact is that dating sites, social networks, forums and many other resources allow only registered users to communicate on their pages. Today we want to talk in detail about what a login is and the rules for creating it.

registration

Each website on the World Wide Web can be compared to an apartment building. When you decide to "settle" in it, you follow the usual sequence of actions:

  • Come up with a login - give your "apartment" a number.
  • Come up with a password - create a "key".

Login - what is it? This is your unique name on this site, consisting of Latin letters and numbers. Sometimes you come up with it yourself, and sometimes you use the system prompts. In some cases, this role is played by an email address or personal cell phone number.

What is registration login? Before you can communicate with other users of the site, you have to fill out a short questionnaire. In some cases, the system asks the user to come up with a name. What is username? This is the same username that you need to enter the site. How to create a username and password? You can read the answer to this question further.

What should be the login

Many people make the mistake of coming up with ridiculous names for themselves. This may be appropriate if you are hanging out with friends or people you know well. However, do not forget that your letter may be received by a business partner or subordinate. In this case, "Lapusiki" and "Kitties", as you understand, are completely inappropriate.

Tip: to come up with a beautiful and memorable login, combine several letters of your first and last name in one word. Experiment until you are satisfied with the result.

The password is the secret key that opens the entrance to your account. Therefore, it should consist (ideally) of numbers and Latin letters, and not represent any sequence.

You can use the same login on different sites. But it will work, provided that the name is not taken by another person. We recommend, just in case, to write down the data in a special notebook so that you can use it if necessary. If you do not take precautions and forget your password and login, then you will have to restore them.

People who are just starting to get acquainted with the Internet, almost immediately come across such a concept as "registration" or "authorization". As a rule, the question about user registration arises in two cases:

  • when creating an email;
  • to access information on a specific site.

In both cases, the user is required to create a username and password. What is a password and login? Surely everyone in their life has come across the concept of a password, so in this article we will not consider its creation. You just need to remember that the password and login must not match each other.

What is a login and how to create it

Login (from the English log in - "to enter the system") is a combination of Latin letters and numbers necessary to identify the user in computer system... Very often, the login can coincide with the displayed username on the site, so do not use a meaningless set of characters when creating a login, but come up with some word or name that is close to you. Sometimes an e-mail address can be used as a login, which, as a rule, sites ask for during registration.

What to write in the login

The login should not be long or very complex, it is better if it will be easy to read and will consist of 6-10 characters. The register, as a rule, does not have much meaning (you can write both "Anna" and "AnnA" or "aNNa"). The login can also contain hyphens and periods. If you want to register under some beautiful name, then it is better to add additional characters to them, since usually bright logins are busy (for example, instead of “Anna” you can write “2Annа2”).

And finally - the username and password must always be remembered (especially for e-mail), and if the memory is bad, it is better to write them down separately and keep them away from prying eyes.

Most of us, in one way or another, maintain activity on various social networks or on other Internet resources. A personal account on any site must be made as secure as possible from hacking. In this article, we will provide some tips to help you create a unique login and strong password for use on any site.

How to create a secure username and password

Create a login

  • under no circumstances set the same or very similar values for the Login and Password fields;
  • most sites suggest using an email address or nickname as a login. Use an email address. This is very convenient and practically eliminates the possibility of forgetting your login;
  • to make it easier to remember the login, you can use the same one in several accounts.

Create a password

Since the main difficulty in cracking is password guessing, its creation should be taken most seriously. Remember that the password should not be easy to guess (for example, 1234567 or qwerty). Also, when creating a password, be sure to pay attention to the following points:

  • do not use your first name, last name or the names of people close to you as a password. This data is most likely well known, so it should be easy to pick up.
  • try to make a password from combinations of words and numbers (different keyboard language, different case). This is the simplest and reliable way create a complex password.
  • do not make your password very short. As complex as the combination of letters and numbers in a password is, it will be easier to crack if it is short.
  • create a password you can remember. In order not to resort to using the function of remembering passwords in the browser, remember the password and enter it manually each time you visit your account.
  • do not write down your passwords anywhere. As well as in the case of pin codes from bank cards, try not to keep your passwords in writing anywhere.

The principles of creating a reliable username and password both for sites and for individual applications (Mile Agent, Skype, Instagram, etc.) are completely the same. You can find other tips on how to create a new username and password in the article -

Any traveler on the Internet sooner or later is faced with the need to register for any service.
The registration procedure is that you will be asked to enter (come up with) a login (nickname, pseudonym) and password.
In the future, in order to gain access to this service you will need to log in, that is, enter in a special form
login and password .
In some cases, your e-mail is used as a login.

  • for personal correspondence
  • for business correspondence
  • for registration on forums, services, registration of mail subscriptions
2. A successful login (e-mail) should be short, sonorous and memorable. It is desirable that also on the topic. It is not easy, but possible. To facilitate the task or to "generate an idea", you can use services for the selection of a name. One of them is described

3. The login should be easy to understand by ear and be written down without options (a-o, e-i, c-k)

Password is the single most important protection of your Yandex registration. Take this seriously! If you think someone else has access to your data, change your password. Below are our tips on how to make your passwords more effective.

Do not use simple passwords, like "12345", "qwerty", "password", etc. Do not write your first name, last name, birthday or passport number as a password, just names or nouns! These passwords are very easy to guess.

Password must:

  • contain at least 6 characters;
  • contain uppercase and lowercase Latin letters;
  • contain numbers or punctuation elements;
  • do not match the login;
  • be easy to remember so that you do not forget it yourself.

A good option would be to write some Russian NOT DICTIONARY word or phrase in English layout keyboard. For example, the password "90% _cjrf" in the English layout looks like this: "90% _cjrf". A difficult to pronounce set of letters that is simply impossible to pick up, at the same time, it will be easy for you to remember it. Or write a word where a number of letters are replaced by numbers. For example, write MO5KVA instead of MOSKVA. Or Vjzrdfhnbhrf58 (Mykvartirka58).

And remember: never, under any circumstances, do not tell anyone your registration password! The Yandex administration never sends letters to its users asking them to send a password!

Paul Ducklin, SophosLabs CTO Asia Pacific, has posted some guidelines for reasonable choice and the use of passwords. First of all, he calls for a clear demarcation Accounts random sites where registration, corporate passwords and personal passwords are required.

To avoid the abundance of complex and unique passwords (and therefore the need to write them down), Paul Ducklin recommends using a simple algorithm when generating passwords for random sites. For example, you can use the password as a site name, say news4example7com3 for news.example.com (used Domain name, and the designation of the number of symbols for each component is in place of a period). Corporate and personal passwords, against must be unique.

Not worth using the same password on all sites (especially on payment sites) or use words from the dictionary (instead of anaconda -> anacondas point a ).

And my last advice - remember that a bad pencil is better than a good memory.
