What is the processor in the iphone se. IPhone SE first look

So, in short, the iPhone SE is the iPhone 6s in the iPhone 5s case. There are only two visible differences between the iPhone SE and the iPhone 5s. First, on the back it says “iPhone SE” instead of just “iPhone”.

Left to right: iPhone SE, iPhone 5s

The second difference is that the bevels of the metal edging are not glossy, but matte. It is difficult to notice this, even with a direct comparison, nevertheless, it is a fact.

There are no more external differences - including with regard to the location of the camera and flash (recall that the iPhone 5 had these elements slightly different), speakers and in general all sizes.

And this is very good news. If you still have iPhone 5s accessories, they are 100% suitable for iPhone SE. For example, we still have a special plastic case with a mount for external lenses in our editorial office - it had to be thrown into the back box with the release of the iPhone 6, but now we found it and installed it on the iPhone SE without any problems.

Also note that the iPhone SE is now available in “ pink gold”, Which appeared in the line of iPhones only starting with the iPhone 6s / 6s Plus.

Left to right: iPhone 5s, iPhone SE, and iPhone 6s

As for our personal impressions, after a dozen minutes of working with the iPhone SE, returning to the dimensions of the iPhone 6s feels like an inconvenience. At the same time, relatively not big screen iPhone SE does not cause such inconvenience compared to iPhone 6s (if we switched to it from iPhone 6s Plus - of course, the difference would be huge)

iPhone SE in hand

iPhone 6s in hand

However, it should be noted that Apple could have enlarged the screen of the iPhone SE without changing the dimensions of the device itself. The frames are quite thick - there is room to enlarge. A 4.3-4.5-inch screen would fit well.

Filling and performance

Inside the iPhone SE is a full-fledged iPhone 6s. Almost. The differences are minimal - there is no 3D Touch (many, however, have already forgotten that 6s has it at all) and the screen resolution is lower - it corresponds to the iPhone 5 / 5s: 640x1136 pixels instead of 750x1334 pixels. Thus, the total number of pixels per iPhone screen 6 / 6s is 1.4x larger than iPhone 5 / 5s / SE.

At the same time, the hardware in the iPhone SE is absolutely the same as in the iPhone 6s - a dual-core Apple A9 APL0898 processor with a nominal clock frequency of 1850 MHz, a PowerVR GT7600 video accelerator, and 2 GB of RAM.

Nevertheless, the benchmark results show that the iPhone SE is still a small fraction less powerful than the iPhone 6s - and this despite the fact that its processor has less "worries" due to the reduced screen resolution.

Such a difference may be due to an artificial limitation of the processor frequency. The iPhone 6s has a 1,715mAh battery, while the iPhone SE (according to iFixit) has a 1,624mAh battery, which is less. To ensure the autonomy similar to the iPhone 6s (and the manufacturer claims that the SE's autonomy is even higher), the difference in resolution and screen brightness may not be enough.

In any case, the artificial decrease in the processor frequency also explains the heterogeneity of the benchmark results obtained on the iPhone SE. As a rule, we make several runs of the benchmark (up to 5 times) and choose the best results (it is possible to slow down the benchmark by third-party processes, but to speed up it is unlikely). In the case of the iPhone SE, there was a big difference between the minimum and maximum results, which hints at the control of the processor frequency.

By the way, pay attention to the line “ inner memory»In the table technical characteristics... iPhone SE will be available only in 16 or 64 GB variants. There are only two options, there will be no others. Although, in an amicable way, there was only one option - 64 GB. Indeed, 16 GB is very small these days, even if you don't watch movies or play games. There is enough music to fill half of this volume, and the other half will be useful for system needs, especially when it comes out new firmware iOS.

Another hardware iPhone difference SE from iPhone 6s - front camera. If the rear cameras of these smartphones are identical (but in SE it does not protrude above the body because the body itself is thicker), then the SE inherited the front camera from the 5s. This, however, does not mean that the quality of selfies has become significantly lower, but we will cover this issue in more detail in the review.

What's left of the iPhone 6s

So, we figured out the stuffing: the processor, RAM and rear camera in the iPhone SE are identical to the iPhone 6s. There are also few differences in the software part. There is no 3D Touch, but this function is mostly hardware - support from the screen is needed. However, the Live Photos were left here - i.e. you can take animated photos and view them on iPhone SE.

But the ease of use with one hand (double tap on the "Home" button) was removed - this is not necessary here, tk. with your thumb you can easily reach top line icons.

The iPhone SE ships with iOS 9.3 by default, and the very first day we received it for testing, the phone requested an update to iOS 9.3.1. The update fixes some bugs in version 9.3.

It should be noted that the system works on the iPhone SE with lightning speed, we did not notice any performance problems. That is, it will be very convenient for those who started noticing lags on the iPhone 5s to upgrade to the iPhone SE.

General impression

At the cost of minor sacrifices like 3D Touch and a 5-megapixel selfie camera, Apple has managed to cram the power of the iPhone 6s into the body of the iPhone 5s. Yes, than bigger screen, the easier it is to consume modern content. But for a large screen there is an iPad, but you want to handle the phone with one hand and so that it does not interfere in your pocket. All the same, the phone will not fully replace the tablet, and the tablet will not replace the phone.

Well, for the upcoming review, we will test both the autonomy and both cameras, and, in general, the operation and stability of the device. At the same time, we will reflect on how the line of Apple smartphones will develop further, and whether we will see another SE in a year. We think it would be logical to remove the line of 4.7-inch iPhones and leave 4 inches and 5.5. The first option is for those who value ergonomics (and who uses the iPad for content that requires a large screen) and the second option is for those who perceive the smartphone as a universal device that replaces, among other things, a tablet.

Apple GiveBack
If you're ready for your next iPhone, Apple GiveBack is a great way to let go of your old one. If it's in good shape, you can trade it in for Apple Store credit. If it's not eligible for credit, we'll recycle it responsibly at no cost to you. Good for you. Good for the planet.

For the first time in its history, Apple commissioned the production of processors used in the iPhone immediately. As you know, the contract for the supply of A9 chipsets has been signed with Samsung and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).

Processors from these manufacturers practically do not differ in graphics and processing power, but the results of the latest benchmarks show that the A9 is from TSMC. After it became known that two different companies are engaged in the production of processors, users of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus wanted to know which chip is in their devices. Here are a few simple steps that will help you find out the manufacturer of the processor in each individual smartphone.

First of all, you need to know the device ID. Fortunately, the App Store has several useful utilities to help you analyze the hardware and provide a list of its components. One of them is the free Battery Memory System Status Monitor application, which allows you to measure the performance of the processor, memory and battery.

How to find out the manufacturer of the A9 processor in iPhone 6s

Step 1: Run the Battery Memory System Status Monitor utility.

Step 2: Click on the System button located at the top of the screen.

Step 3: Check your device ID. To do this, go to the Device section and look at the Model subsection:

  • N71mAP - iPhone 6s with TSMC A9 processor;
  • N66mAP - iPhone 6s with TSMC A9 processor;
  • N71AP - iPhone 6s with Samsung A9 processor;
  • N66AP - iPhone 6s with Samsung A9 processor.

other methods

In addition to Battery Memory System Status Monitor, you can also use the Lirum Device Info application, which costs 169 rubles in the App Store. The utility provides even more data on the performance of the hardware and software of the device. Unfortunately, the app cannot currently work with iPhone 6s, 6s Plus and iPad Air 2 due to some difficulties. Nevertheless, the developers assure that they will fix all the problems and add a number of new functions.

A very good utility from Technet System Status, which can be downloaded for 169 rubles. With its help, you can find out the device ID, performance, etc.

Users who are not looking for "easy ways" can check out the open source software from David Stokely, which will point directly to the chipset manufacturer. However, for this you need to register your Apple ID as a developer.

PRESS RELEASE March 21, 2016

Apple Introduces iPhone SE - The Most powerful phone with display 4 inches

A9 processor, industry-leading 12MP iSight camera and Apple Pay

CUPERTINO, California - March 21, 2016 - Apple today unveiled the iPhone SE, the world's most powerful 4-inch phone yet. The beloved compact aluminum body is now complemented by rounded brushed edges and the same-colored stainless steel Apple logo. And now it is available in four gorgeous colors, including rose gold.
