Galaxy ace 5830. Summary review of smartphones Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830), Fit (S5670) and mini (S5570)

Ace S5830, positioning it first as a medium device, and then entry level... Designed to raise expectations for the capabilities of budget phones, its sibling, Ace 2, was also released.

Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830: model specifications

Equal in size iPhone display 4S, in other respects the 3.5 ”TFT screen does not compare with it. This is just one of many concessions to the level set by Apple's smartphones. Although the 5MP camera initially matched the sensors of more expensive phones, its video capabilities are limited to 640 x 480 pixels.

In terms of the main specs, the model is equipped with a single core 800 MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor. In 2013, its frequency was already significantly inferior to its average value in the chipsets of mid-range smartphones, equal to 1 GHz and even the dual-core novelties that were just appearing then, but corresponded, for example, to Motorola Motoluxe. Cheaper than Nokia Lumia 710 with 3.7 ”AMOLED display running OS Windows Phone 7.5, Galaxy phone The Ace emerged in a highly competitive market segment dominated by models such as the BlackBerry Curve 9300 and the Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray on Android platform 2.3.

Design

Many high-end smartphones, following in the footsteps of the iPhone, were also produced in an attractive white finish after the standard black model was released. Keeping up with the trend, Samsung has killed two birds with one stone and offered a couple of interchangeable back panels reminiscent of the days of the Nokia 3330. At the same time, the black back panel, which does not match other smartphones in terms of color, is more pleasant to the touch than its sleek glossy white version. Brilliant cut provides better grip.

Sleek, stylish and attractive to look at, the phone, despite the budget plastic construction and lightweight design, is surprisingly reliable and only slightly flexes under load. The excellent build has no ugly seams or unnerving spacing between components, but suffers from poorly positioned buttons.

The placement of the three physical keys (go to the home page, volume control and power on) Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace user reviews find it inconvenient. Two of them are located in places that allow them to be accidentally pressed too often. When the device is in the left hand, the thumb rests on the volume up button, and the index finger rests on the power switch. And if you hold the phone in your right hand, then the switch falls into the sphere of influence of the thumb, and the middle one constantly risks reducing the volume.

This inconvenience is more annoying than a disadvantage. Samsung's lack of foresight in these basic design aspects often forces users to resort to unnatural and unbalanced grip to avoid accidental clicks.

The chunky enough phone has a bulge at the top, so the manufacturer made room for a 3.5mm audio jack and a micro-USB port hidden by a plastic latch. Helping to flatten the design and mask unsightly holes, the slider is stiff, awkward and difficult to access by requiring two hands.

Withstands accidental shocks and touches with keys and coins, the relatively robust Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace case is not susceptible to scratches in everyday use. However, the plastic finish gets scratched after months of use. It is a pity that the Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace package does not include covers.

The large touchscreen responds quickly and runs smoothly. The target audience models that are novice smartphone users will not worry about having the latest version of Android.

With a thickness of 11.5 mm, the model is 0.2 mm thicker HTC flagship Sensation. The 113g weight provides a solid feel in the hand, but given that the 4.3-inch Galaxy S2 is only 2g heavier, users might expect a lighter phone.

Display

The most important component of any smartphone is its touchscreen. It allows you to control your device and view media content. The 3.5 ”display is acceptable, although it doesn't manage to stand out from the crowd. With a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels and a density of 165 dpi, the capacitive touchscreen of the Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace is very mediocre and produces images, although discernible, but completely unsatisfactory and unattractive.

With video playback, photo viewing, and app performance to a minimum, the phone falls short of the standards you would expect from mobile devices Samsung. The display is far from the vibrant colors of the AMOLED matrices found in high-end and mid-range Samsung smartphones, as well as 720p and 1080p HD displays on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Colors are muted and detail is not sharp. Mainly obeying user commands, the device sometimes stops responding, requiring several convincing taps to complete the desired action.

However, not everything is so bleak. The screen of a Samsung smartphone, joining forces with the Android OS, automatically dims when the battery charge reaches the lower limit of its capabilities, extending the time autonomous work... In addition, the display is protected from scratches by Gorilla Glass.

Interface

After launching the model with Android 2.2 Froyo installed, a year later it was migrated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread. However, in the future, the manufacturer's support ceased, and the appearance of the Jelly Bean version, in which many improvements were made, made the model obsolete even at its release. However, for a novice smartphone user, this is not so important - for its value, it does the job just fine.

The model combines an operating system with Samsung's TouchWiz interface. It provides a proven and secure shell that meets user needs without offering revolutionary solutions or inspiring environments. The intuitive platform treats the user with a standard set of pre-installed Google apps that are easy to organize along with a variety of widgets and shortcuts across a somewhat limited trio of desktops.

Largely due to the limited 258MB of RAM and 800MHz CPU, opening programs becomes a difficult task, as they are preceded by a short pause. Interruptions are observed in other situations as well. Waking up the phone from sleep mode is sometimes slow, often forcing you to press the button repeatedly. This creates an annoying vicious circle of opposing button presses.

Scrolling through menus and lists is also slightly slowed down - a smooth start is accompanied by abrupt stops. This slows down the user's work, and also distinguishes the device from some peers and even weaker competitors.

On the bottom of the screen, there are 4 main apps for calls, contacts, messages and menus, which are separated from the rest of the programs above them, just like in iOS. There is also an excellent task manager widget that allows you to conserve battery life by showing which programs are currently running in the background.

In the Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830, the battery is not very durable. A standard 1350 mAh lithium-ion battery is used, which, despite its low power compared to other smartphones, is able to keep the phone running throughout the day.

Another useful widget is a bar at the top of the screen that allows you to quickly turn Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and sync on or off, and increase the brightness of the image.

Unfortunately for users who don't like to play, the built-in games for the Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 cannot be uninstalled. They clog up memory and space on the menu screen.

From point of view telephone connection the model leaves a double impression. The standard set of contacts and call menus are easy to set up and navigate. Thanks to TouchWiz 3.0, contacts can be easily integrated with account Facebook posts, Twitter and Google, which is a definite plus for social media lovers. The contact history is convenient, as it shows not only received and made calls, but also messages. But the caller's audibility is not very clear, and it may take several tries to answer the ringing tone.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830), which was priced as a mid-range device when it launched in 2011, had a relatively decent 5MP sensor. But gradually it ceased to meet the requirements of the market, which offered many budget models that produce high-quality images.

According to user reviews, a well-functioning dedicated macro mode is missing. The camera struggles to focus when the target is too close. Attempts to photograph a close object confuse the autofocus system and out of sync, resulting in poor quality and very disappointing footage.

The attempt to remedy this situation with magnification raises a wide range of new questions. Although the phone has 2x digital zoom, which is far from impressive, in reality this function can only be used when shooting with reduced image quality. The upper resolution limit does not allow either optical or digital magnification to be activated.

There is no quick launch button for the camera app, and the tiny amount of internal memory (158 MB) means that you cannot take pictures until you have inserted the 2 GB memory card that came with your smartphone.

In ample lighting conditions, the phone is capable of capturing impressive pictures, offering a choice of single, continuous and panoramic modes and a smile-activated shutter. The Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830) has less than perfect camera performance, the built-in LED flash often overwhelms the subject, making some parts of the image too pronounced, leaving others in deep darkness. There is little help from her when it comes to capturing the perfect shot.

Although the front camera is rarely used for video calling, its absence is a clear omission that is very noticeable in the mid-range smartphone market. It also deprives users of the demanded opportunity to take selfies. There are a variety of photo modes to choose from, and most of them improve image quality.

Video

According to user reviews, the phone does not meet the HD standards that are a prerequisite in the mid-range smartphone market. The Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830), whose settings do not allow you to shoot video with a resolution of more than 640 x 480 pixels and a frequency of 24 fps, is too outdated. You won't be able to get pleasure from the footage on large screens. Users are advised against even trying to do this.

The recipe for successful video shooting with Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830) is a cloudless sky on a sunny day. The phone's often mistakenly prudent color management system causes an overexposed image, which gives frames an unwanted artificial yellow tint. That being said, a pleasant surprise is the smartphone's ability to record loud, clear sound with good directionality and isolation of unwanted background noise when shooting video. Useful function is the countdown of the remaining amount of memory, which will allow you to navigate how much space a puny two-gigabyte card will take up shooting.

Multimedia

While Micro-SD cards are a relatively cheap and readily available storage option, the Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830) lack of storage is an annoying omission. The lack of ROM means that no picture can be taken without Micro-SD.

Having a music player and FM radio allows the smartphone to be a media center. However, due to the weak built-in speaker, this potential is not destined to be realized. The weak acoustics of the Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830) reproduce little bass and produce a metallic sound that, when watching movies, is not able to support an unremarkable screen. Only the location of the speaker saves the situation. Unlike many smartphones, whose sound sources are located in the most inappropriate places, which significantly degrade the audio quality, the speaker is located at the back in the center of the phone.

Videos and music files are stored in separate applications (gallery and music player, respectively). This means that if you want to watch a music video after listening to the soundtrack, you will have to exit one program and enter another. The videos in the gallery are sorted by date and are played only in landscape mode.

Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace phone is not suitable to launch video player. It can play a variety of multimedia files, but the combination of a low screen resolution and lack of internal memory means you have to invest in a large Micro-SD card before thinking about a movie marathon. The user will not get anything similar to the Galaxy S3, since the smartphone does not even have an OLED display.

Battery life

Promising 420 min. in standby mode with 3G on, Samsung overestimated the capabilities of the 1350mAh Li-Ion battery. According to the owners, when tested, it loses its charge much faster than the advertising seven hours. Charging the battery takes a long time, unlike, for example, the Panasonic Eluga Power, which can reach 50% charge in just 30 minutes. Like many smartphones, the Galaxy Ace suffers from rapid battery drain. According to the owners, he is able to withstand one day if not working for several hours in a row.

In terms of connectivity, to standard set Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are paired with GPS capabilities so you can use Google Maps and geotag your photos. Standing out from the competition, the phone allows you to share your Internet connection via a USB cable to such devices without mobile communications like laptops. It's always nice to know that for a small amount in one building you can get satellite navigation, mobile point access and connection to Wi-Fi.

Advantages and disadvantages

Is the phone a good one? No. Already at its release, it was very mediocre and did not change for the better. The smartphone lies comfortably in the hand and has a good design. With interchangeable black and white back panels, it offers a design that will appeal to a wide range of users. Simple in operating Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830) "Android" of the outdated modification does not spoil, and its price is simply amazing. You can buy a phone for 4.5 thousand rubles.

However, the phone sluggishly wakes up from sleep mode, and its low-resolution TFT display lacks the vibrant colors that are common in Samsung models. A smartphone equipped with a weak camera is filled with software that can turn it into a universal media center, but the hardware does not allow it, because audio and visual capabilities fall short of expectations. The interface does not give confidence to the owner dealing with for the first time Android device... He will be extremely disappointed to think that this is how all smartphones work.

Conclusion

The Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace phone cannot be recommended. Even if there are those who are desperate to get some inexpensive smartphone, this is still not something that might suit them. There are other, cheaper and more powerful models. Outdated smartphone software does not speak in its favor either.

The processor could not cope with the loads back in January 2011, and modern more resource-intensive applications only exacerbate the situation. The screen and pre-installed software are remnants of the days when the manufacturer was just trying to enter the smartphone market.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace (S5830) is an echo of the early days of Android, so modern software doesn't work as well on it. This is not the South Korean company's fault. The model was supposed to leave the stage at the end of its life cycle, but for some reason its release was continued.

Ace S5830 is a real bestseller, a real hit of sales of the company! It is included in the Galaxy product line, as you might have guessed from the model name, and also falls within the range of up to ten thousand rubles at a price. The Ace S5830 differs from its predecessors (and these are Fit and Gio) in that it has a sufficiently high-quality 5-megapixel camera, as well as a 3.5-inch touch screen. By the way, the camera is equipped with an LED flash, which allows you to take very good pictures in low light conditions.

Introduction

In December 2011, a long time ago, the smartphone market began to supply a device under the index I. This is the S5830, or rather, its modification. What are the differences between these two models? The device with the I index has a slightly different graphics accelerator, as well as another processor operating at a frequency of 832 megahertz.

Equipment

The delivery set of the device includes, in addition to itself, a Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace Black battery, as well as a charger. Also, the user is given the opportunity to synchronize a smartphone with a personal computer or laptop using a MicroUSB - USB cable. This wire is included with the device. Well, the set is completed by a microSD memory card with a volume of 2 gigabytes. It may or may not ship with your phone. It all depends on the country in which the device is purchased.

Dimensions (edit)

Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 is the most real candy bar. Its dimensions on all three planes are 112.4 x 59.9 x 11.5 millimeters. In this case, the mass of the smartphone is equal to 113 grams.

Appearance

The Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 is similar to the S II. So to speak, outwardly it is just a miniature copy of the corresponding phone. The control elements are located in the same way, supplemented by a rectangular button, the body of the device has the same geometry.

Manufacturing material

The body of the smartphone is made of ordinary plastic. The back panel is painted black, the lid is not smooth, but embossed. A practical solution considering the fact that the relief helps to avoid scratches and mechanical damage. At the same time, the lid will still rub off, and fingerprints on black plastic are much more noticeable than on white. As for the rest, we note that a chrome edging runs along the perimeter of the phone. The plastic from which the Samsung S5830 Galaxy Ace phone is made (the firmware is available on the company's official website) is glossy.

Build quality

It can please people who have made their choice in favor of this device. Smartphone specialists have repeatedly conducted tests that have revealed the device's excellent build quality. The device during long-term operation did not reveal any backlash or creaks. Even the most ordinary crunch did not appear. At the same time, the screen of the device is not protected by additional glass or plastic. That is why it will not be so difficult to scratch it.

Reliability and convenience

Such a small mass made it possible to successfully use the device. The phone Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 lies in the hand, the price of which is about nine thousand rubles, it is very reliable. This is also achieved through the ergonomic design, which is complemented by a perforated back panel. It is convenient to transport your phone in any pockets, be it jeans, a jacket or an ordinary shirt.

Front Panel

Here He is located in the upper part of the frontal side. Not far from him, to the side, perched a speaker. Its volume is average, sometimes it is not enough in a conversation. There is no necessary stock, for which you can automatically set a minus. Yes, the quality is generally up to par. You can hear the interlocutor from that end of the wire legibly, the purity of the sound is not lame. But if you work in a high-noise environment or the interlocutor has problems with the microphone (and maybe he speaks quietly himself), then this will be a serious problem.

Under the screen, there are touch keys that will allow us to get to the main menu, as well as go back one point. There is a backlight. It is not regulated. The backlight color is white. It is not visible in the light, although in low light conditions it becomes an obvious advantage of the device. Between the elements of the transition to the menu and to the item back there is a key with which we can move to the desktop of the device. This is a standard move for the creations of the South Korean manufacturer. The key is framed with chrome-plated plastic. Has a small stroke, it is pressed quite softly. If the user holds the button down for a few seconds, a menu will open. In it, we can see which applications are currently running on the phone.

Left side

There is a thin key here that allows us to adjust the volume level in the device. With its help, we can change the sound mode, as well as control the volume in the multimedia player, where music files and video clips are opened. A little higher you can find a sector in which there is a strap attachment. As a precaution, one cannot fail to note this.

Right side

There is a power control button on this side. She is responsible for locking and unlocking the device, as well as for turning it on and off. Slightly below the button, you can find a compartment into which the user can install a microSD memory card. This nest is covered with a special protective plug made of plastic. You will hear a soft click when the card is in place.

Bottom end

Upper end

There will be more choice here, after all. The composition consists of a jack for a 3.5 mm wired headset, as well as a MicroUSB port, which simultaneously serves as a means of synchronizing with a personal computer and charging.

Rear panel

It has a large enough main camera peephole. There is a flash nearby, allowing you to take good quality photos in low light conditions. Well, everything ends with a sound speaker, which is covered with a metal mesh.

Removing the cover is easy enough. To do this, you just need to pry it in the area of the lower end, for a special recess. When the user removes the back cover, he will be able to find the device's battery under it. If you remove it too, then you can see the slot into which the SIM card is installed.

Conclusion and reviews of the owners

In general, the Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 makes a pretty good impression. And this should be noted. What do we have on the list of the main advantages of the device? First, there is a camera. Still, five megapixels do not lie on the road. Photographs are of high quality, even in poor lighting conditions. Well, in general, this case is no exception.

Secondly, the software and operating system were successfully implanted. It works fast enough, no special slowdowns were found during numerous tests. Thirdly, the advantage is an interesting, ergonomic design. But in order to compete with the most powerful devices in the segment, this is clearly not enough. Probably, a few words should be said about the dynamics of the device, which is distinguished by the purity of sound presentation.

Competitors

One of the competitors of Samsung Galaxy Ace is Huawei IDEO X5. Compared to the subject of our today's review, it has a more original design, which automatically counts as an advantage. In addition, the device has 512 MB of RAM, and more powerful processor provides the best performance. The processor operates at a frequency of 800 megahertz. In addition, the diagonal of this device will be larger by 0.3 inches. Huawei has a screen resolution of 480 by 800 pixels. The average cost of the device is practically the same - ten thousand rubles.

Another competitor is the LG Optimus Hub. Here we have a screen with the same diagonal. The resolution will be smaller, only 320 by 480 pixels. However, there is a camera (5 megapixels). The device has 512 MB of RAM and has a Qualcomm processor. It operates at frequencies up to 800 megahertz. The price of the device falls within the range of eight to nine thousand rubles.

Finally, let's answer the question on how to update the Samsung GT S5830 Galaxy Ace. To do this, we need a firmware for the device, which can be found on the official website of the company. We also need appropriate programs. We're talking about Kies, of course. After all the components are assembled, we connect the phone and start the automated file replacement process. However, the user does this at his own peril and risk, do not forget about it.

By the way, in the object of our today's review, the RAM is installed two times less. And this sometimes prompts buyers to think that it is better to take another device with better technical characteristics for the same price. And the built-in memory for storing user data hardly exceeds 150 megabytes.

Positioning

From the line of Samsung Galaxy smartphones up to 10,000 rubles, we tested Fit (S5670) and Gio (S5660). Remained a real bestseller - Ace (S5830). It differs from its predecessors by a large 3.5-inch display and a high-quality 5 MP camera with flash.

Sales of the Galaxy Ace with the index "i" - S5830i will begin in mid-December. This is a small upgrade to the S5830, which consists in installing a new 3D accelerator and a processor with a clock speed of 832 MHz.

Actually, this model will be discussed today.

Design, dimensions, controls

The Galaxy Ace smartphone is a classic candy bar with dimensions of 112.4 x 59.9 mm and a thickness of 11.5 mm. The device weighs 113 grams. Outwardly, it looks like a reduced a copy of Samsung Galaxy S II: Same body shape and control layout with rectangular Home button. The device is made of plastic: the back cover is black, has a relief surface, the edging is chrome-plated around the perimeter, the material is glossy. The assembly of Samsung Ace is excellent: for a long time of testing, no creaking, no backlash, no crunch appeared. The screen is most likely not protected by special glass (or plastic), as it can be easily scratched with sharp objects. Even slight abrasions appeared during operation.

Thanks to its light weight, ergonomic design and perforated back cover, the phone fits well in the hand. It fits perfectly into the pockets of jeans, a shirt and a jacket.

There is a proximity sensor on the front of the device. Nearby is a speaker. Its volume is average, there is no margin, the interlocutor can be heard clearly, but as if from afar. Under the screen there are two touch keys "Back" and "Menu". Their backlighting is white, not very bright, but in the light, in principle, it is visible. Between them is a mechanical rectangular Home button. I would add "classic" for Samsung. It is framed with chrome-plated plastic, the pressure is soft, the stroke is small. With a long hold, it brings up a menu with previously launched applications.

On the left side there is a thin volume rocker, almost recessed into the body, a little higher - a strap hook. On the right - the on / off button, as well as the phone lock. Below is a compartment for installing a microSD memory card, covered with a plastic flap. The card is installed until it clicks.

The microphone is located on the bottom end, on the top there is a standard 3.5 mm audio output for headphones or a headset and microUSB, which can be closed with a shutter. On the back there is a large camera peephole, LED flash and a speaker covered with a metal mesh.

To remove the cover, you must pry it off by the recess at the bottom end. The battery is located under the cover, and the SIM card is installed in the upper area (the battery will have to be removed).

Display

The Samsung Galaxy Ace smartphone has one of the largest displays in the price range up to 10,000 rubles - 3.5 "diagonal. The standard resolution is 320x480 pixels, and the density is 165 pixels per inch. The matrix Samsung S5830 is made using TFT-LCD technology and displays 16 million color shades, the sensor is capacitive, works out up to two simultaneous touches The sensitivity is average, insignificantly, but loses in this parameter to Sony Ericsson Mini and Live With Walkman (located in the same price segment).

The viewing angles are small: under slopes the picture loses contrast. The brightness is adjusted manually in the "Display" settings, since there is no light sensor in the device. There you can also select a font (before downloading it from the Market), calibrate the three-axis accelerometer (BMA222), set the screen timeout (from 30 seconds to 30 minutes), enable or disable the auto-rotation of information when the phone is tilted.

Ace has a magnetic field sensor (MS-3E), orientation, linear acceleration and proximity sensors (TMD26711).

In general, a relatively average screen, which is inferior in color rendering to SE Mini / Mini Pro, Neo, and even more so - Samsung Wave S8500.

In light, the screen fades slightly, the information remains readable.

* - the brightness of the Nokia 700 display at maximum brightness is higher than in the photo. This is due to the fact that I took the footage in the dark, and the phone's light sensor dimmed the display backlight slightly.

Battery

The Samsung S5830 uses a 1350 mAh Li-Ion battery. Model EB494358VU. The Galaxy Fit and Gio have exactly the same.

The manufacturer claims that the Galaxy Ace will live up to 640 hours (2G) and up to 420 hours on 3G network in standby mode. Talk time - up to 11 hours (2G) and up to six and a half hours on a 3G network.

It charges about two and a half hours from USB, about 1.5 hours from the mains.

Communication capabilities

The Galaxy Ace smartphone operates on 2G (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and 3G (900/2100 MHz) cellular networks. Chip - BCM21553.

HSDPA speed - up to 7.2 Mbps. In stock Bluetooth version 2.1 (with A2DP stereo profile) for file and voice transfer. There were no problems with the connection of the headsets: it does not connect very quickly. There is a wireless connection Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n. The device can be used as an access point (Wi-Fi Hotspot). There is a special item in the "Settings". Multimedia content is transmitted via DLNA. USB 2.0 (HighSpeed) is used to "transport" files and synchronize data. When Ace is connected to a PC, it is detected as a USB-Flash-device or USB-modem.

Memory and memory card

The Samsung S5830 smartphone has 280 MB of RAM (usually around 180 MB free), which is enough for most tasks. However, I would like to have 512 MB, that's exactly how much of it in Sony Ericsson Mini (and others like that). About 190 MB of Flash memory (135 MB free) is allocated for installing applications. If desired, all applications are transferred to microSD, a 2 GB memory card is included in the package. Its maximum volume can be up to 32 GB.

Camera

The model has a 5-megapixel camera module with autofocus. There is a single-section LED backlight. The maximum image resolution is 2560x1920 pixels, video recording (without autofocus) is carried out in a resolution of 320x240 pixels at 30 frames per second.

The quality of the images is very good: the details are high, there is no “soap” at the edges, and in insufficient lighting conditions it practically does not “make noise”. Below are the comparison shots on Nokia 700 (left), Samsung Ace and Samsung Omnia W (right):

During video recording, the volume buttons can be used to adjust the two-fold digital "zoom", and the quality is not lost (there are no artifacts).

The camera is launched through the menu using a shortcut. The interface looks like this: on the left - shooting mode (one shot, smile detection, continuous, panorama), scenes (landscape, night, sports, indoor, beach, sunset, etc.), backlight (off, off and "automatic "), settings. On the right is a gallery, switching from photo to video.

Performance

The Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830i smartphone has a processor running at 832 MHz (minimum - 312 MHz). Unlike previous models, it uses a graphics accelerator from Broadcom - VideoCore IV HW with support for OpenGL ES-CM 1.1. It is a 40nm multimedia processor using CMOS technology. The main features are: the use of 20 megapixel digital cameras, FullHD video recording and playback, and 1 gigapixel 2D / 3D graphics rendering. Unfortunately, in practice it is no different from the Adreno 200/205.

During testing, the device behaved quite stable: no freezes or brakes were observed.

System information:

Navigation

The smartphone has a GPS navigator. Its functionality is the same as in most low-cost phones. "Cold" start - about two minutes, "hot" - up to 10-15 seconds.

Software platform

The Samsung Ace smartphone runs on Android version 2.3.6. Firmware version - S5830iXXKL1, kernel version - [email protected], assembly - Gingerbread.XXKL2.

Shell and menu

The familiar TouchWIZ 3.0 shell is used: seven desktops (3 by default) with widgets, a panel with a "Dialer", "Contacts", "Messages" and an entry to the "Menu". To unlock the screen, press the "Menu" button or the power button of the device and then move the background image to the side. The desktops are assigned: shortcuts, folders, "hot" keys and various widgets. Static and animated screensavers are used as wallpaper. When you hold down the mechanical Home button for a long time, a menu appears with previously launched applications. There is also a task manager.

The menu is represented by 16 4x4 grid icons on one screen. By clicking on the "Menu" and choosing "change" in it, the shortcuts can be moved. Including, they can be installed in the lower panel (“Home” cannot be replaced).

Challenges

Standard dialer for Samsung phones. It is easy to get into contacts and call log from it. When dialing a number, a list of contacts starting with these digits appears in the input field window. To create a contact, you must click on the "plus" in the "contacts". The following information is available for each subscriber: avatar, name and surname, phone number, email address, google account Talk, group, ringtone, mailing address, organization, note, nickname, website, birthday and anniversary.

Posts

Two types of keyboards are used for typing: "Samsung" and Swype. The phone has an accelerometer, so when you turn the smartphone on its side, the keyboard takes a landscape view, and it is more convenient to enter text. The options contain the following items:

  • Add topic
  • Add text
  • Delete text
  • To invest
  • Insert emoticon
  • Cancel

Web browser

Standard web browser. Surfing is much more comfortable than, for example, on the Gio and Fit - the screen size matters. Supports multi-touch - pinch zoom. In general, there were no problems: quickly opens pages, and the interface behaves smoothly.

Multimedia

Music player

A familiar player from Samsung is used. From the main menu, you can organize your songs by artist, album, and song. When a song is played, the album cover, player control keys, and a button for viewing the list of songs are displayed on the screen. In the settings, you can set the sound to 5.1 or select an equalizer. For the latter, 11 presets are available: rock, jazz, classical, dance, pop, live sound, concert hall, wide range, music clarity, bass boost and externalization.

The volume of the polyphonic speaker is low and is comparable to that of the Samsung Fit speaker. Reproduces cleanly, without overload. Headphone sound quality is typical for most low-cost Android devices. In short, all sound parameters are practically the same as on all previous devices: Fit, Gio and Mini.

FM radio

For it to work, you need to connect headphones, they act as an antenna. The sensitivity of the radio is good. Operating range 85 - 108 MHz, RDS supported. Large digits of the current frequency appear on the screen, at the bottom - four cells of frequently listened to radio stations. In the settings, you can set the radio auto-off timer: from 30 minutes to 2 hours. The volume is high.

Video player

There is no separate application. All video files are easy to find in the "Gallery". The player is simple, with support for H264 / H263 codecs and MP4 and 3GP formats. The maximum video resolution is 640x360 pixels with a bitrate of no more than 2000 Kbps in MP4 format. There are no settings, only rewind videos and "play" / "pause".

Conclusion

The Samsung Galaxy Ace smartphone made a good impression: good detailing photos, high-quality speech speaker, "smart" interface and excellent ergonomic design. However, the Samsung S5830 has enough competitors.

One of them is Huawei IDEO X5. It has an original design, 512 MB of RAM, a more modern Qualcomm MSM7230 processor with a clock frequency of 800 MHz. In addition, the diagonal of the screen is 3.8 inches, and the resolution is 480x800 pixels. The average cost of the X5 is about 10,000 rubles. Recommend.

The new LG Optimus Hub boasts a 3.5-inch display diagonal with a resolution of 320x480, a 5-megapixel camera, 512 MB of RAM, a Qulacomm MSM7227T processor with a clock speed of 800 MHz and a more than attractive price tag - 8,000-9,000 rubles.

Musical Sony Ericsson Live With Walkman. As it seems to me, one of the most interesting smartphones of the outgoing year. With an average cost of 8,500 rubles, it has a powerful "gigahertz" processor Qualcomm MSM8255, 512 MB of "RAM", a fast 5 MP camera with HD video recording and two very loud stereo speakers. The display resolution is the same as that of the Ace, but the diagonal is slightly smaller - 3.2 ".

By the way, why not try Bada-device Samsung S8530: excellent screen with Super Clear LCD matrix, diagonal - 3.7 inches, resolution 480x800 pixels. The camera is no less interesting: 5 MP with autofocus, flash and video recording in HD quality. Now it can be bought for 8,500-9,000 rubles.

In general, it's up to you, as always, to decide, but I would take a closer look at Huawei X5 or SE LWW.

Roman Belykh (

Samsung Galaxy Ace (GT-S5830) was officially presented by Samsung only today (at 2 am Kiev time). It is intended to strengthen the manufacturer's position in the mid-price segment, where today Samsung has a slight slack. I had the opportunity for a week to walk around with a pre-sale sample of this, of course, an interesting device. He has all the ingredients for success, but can he become as popular as the legendary Galaxy Spica?

An excursion into history

At one time, the Android smartphone Samsung Galaxy Spica (GT-i5700) produced the effect of an exploding bomb on our market and became the most popular device under the control of the operating room. Android systems... The excellent combination of price and characteristics was "to blame" for this, and the popularity of the phone could not be influenced by some technical problems or the uncertain situation with the update. software... The Galaxy Spica was quickly discontinued - both due to the technical problems mentioned above, and because the device turned out to be too successful and potentially cannibalize the sales of more expensive Samsung phones, in particular, the bada, which was preparing for the release at that time. flagship Wave (GT-S8500). The device called Galaxy 580 (GT-i5800) became a logical continuation of the super popular Spitsa, which, however, did not become popular, since its characteristics were partially deteriorated in comparison with its predecessor. In particular, users were indignant at the reduced screen resolution (240x400 versus 320x480). Competitors, meanwhile, did not doze and presented very interesting Android smartphones in the same (and even lower) price category - within literally six months we saw Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini and Mini Pro, HTC Wildfire, Garmin-ASUS A10, Gigabyte GSmart G1305, LG Optimus (GT540) and finally Optimus One (P500), which is currently the most balanced and attractive offer on the market. The answer to the inclinations of competitors was a smartphone called the Galaxy Ace, which is intended to return the company's leadership in the mid-price segment. The name - Ace - was probably not chosen by chance, it is such a trump ace that the company pulled out of its sleeve at the decisive moment. As with the Galaxy Spica, the key is the combination of price and technical characteristics, but at the same time the company approached the creation of the phone carefully enough so as not to damage the sales of older models.

Specifications

In the Galaxy Ace, the company ditched its own S3C6410 processor and opted for the Qualcomm MSM7227 platform, which is a complete solution for budget smartphones... The Qualcomm MSM7227 integrates an ARMv6 800MHz processor core with the Adreno 200 GPU, which has the most comprehensive Android gaming support to date. The full specifications of the smartphone are as follows:

  • Ranges: GPRS / GSM / EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, UMTS / HSPA 900/2100.
  • Form Factor: keyboardless candy bar.
  • Operating system: Google Android 2.2 (Froyo) with TouchWiz 3.0 interface.
  • Display: TFT, 320x480 pixels, 16 million colors, touchscreen (capacitive matrix).
  • Camera: 5 MP, autofocus, LED backlight, geotagging, video recording (320x240).
  • CPU: Qualcomm MSM7227, clock speed 800 MHz; integrated video accelerator Adreno 200.
  • RAM: 384 MB.
  • Flash memory: 158MB + microSDHC cards (up to 32GB).
  • Multimedia capabilities: MP3 player, FM receiver, YouTube integration, Find Music service (similar to Track ID in Sony Ericsson phones).
  • Wireless technologies: Wi-Fi b / g / n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR.
  • Interface connectors: microUSB, 3.5 mm headphone output.
  • GPS: yes, support for A-GPS, support for Google Maps.
  • Dimensions and weight: 112x60x11 mm, 115 grams.

Appearance and design features

Personally, I strongly dislike the direction in which Samsung's design thought is developing: the phones of this respected manufacturer with each new iteration are becoming more and more like the iPhone. And I don’t need to tell me that all sensor devices look the same, it’s not true: the same “Spitsa” had its own and quite recognizable appearance, while Ace looks like a Chinese counterfeit for the iPhone 3GS.

At the same time, the body materials are quite good: the front panel is covered with solid glass, and the battery compartment cover is made of decent-looking glossy plastic. The only element of the case that inspires concerns for the preservation of its appearance is the plastic edging painted "silver".

It should be noted that in the last Samsung time began to remove a separate camera button from their phones: it was absent in the Galaxy S, and it is not in the Galaxy Ace either. In my opinion, this is unforgivable, since it makes photography with a phone as inconvenient as possible.

Screen

The Galaxy Ace uses a 3.5-inch TFT screen with a capacitive touch surface with a resolution of 320x480 pixels. The screen is bright and contrasty, the viewing angles can be called satisfactory, but nothing more. In my opinion, the screen quality of the Galaxy Ace is somewhat inferior to the Optimus One. Apparently, there is an oleophobic coating, because the screen is reluctant to clap and then it is easily wiped off.

Light sensor and, accordingly, no automatic brightness control.

Autonomy

The smartphone is equipped with a 1350 mAh battery. Autonomy is typical for most Android smartphones, that is, with heavy use and large quantities mobile internet traffic he is able to work a maximum of one and a half to two days. It takes about 2.5 hours to fully charge the battery from the mains charger, the phone charges a little slower from USB.

Performance

Initially, I had information that the Galaxy Ace will be based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM7230 chipset (800 MHz Scorpion processor core and Adreno 205 GPU). Unfortunately, this information was not confirmed, the smartphone uses a "budget" solution Qualcomm MSM7227 with Adreno 200 graphics, but the processor core is overclocked to 800 MHz. In smartphones HTC Gratia and Samsung Galaxy Mini, the same processor is used at its "native" frequency of 600 MHz.

In spite of budget chipset, the phone performed well in the Quadrant and Neocore benchmarks. Even 9 months ago, such performance was only available to buyers of top-end Android smartphones, and today it is already the lot of middle-class solutions.

Firmware features

The phone runs on the Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system, on top of which the proprietary TouchWiz 3.0 shell is stretched. In general, the interface is not much different from other Samsung Android smartphones, for example, the Galaxy S.

The Galaxy Ace has finally almost fixed a long-standing problem with Samsung smartphones, namely, incomplete localization. In particular, the Cyrillic alphabet has appeared in the quick navigation bar for contacts, which allows you to quickly search for contacts with names in Russian or Ukrainian. True, Cyrillic input is still not provided in the "Phone" application, so if you need a T9 search by contacts, you will have to install the Dialer One application (fortunately, it's free).

To enter text you can use like standard keyboard Samsung and Swype. V Samsung keyboard layouts now switch as follows: press the space bar and slide your finger to the right or left. There are also innovations in Swype, the main one of which is the support of the Ukrainian language.

The Galaxy Ace, like other Samsung Android smartphones, comes preinstalled with office suite ThinkFree Office.

The smartphone has a very good (handy) MP3-player and FM-receiver, which has good reception quality. Of course, there are standard Android 2.2 connectivity options. mobile phone as a modem and use it as a point Wi-Fi access for distributing mobile Internet.

Camera

The Galaxy Ace uses the familiar 5-megapixel camera module with autofocus and LED backlighting. The quality of photos outdoors during the day is very good, at night and indoors it naturally falls, but overall the camera is pleasant.

But Samsung frankly squeezed video recording: the maximum resolution of videos is 320x240, the movement in them is frankly twitchy, as if the frame rate does not exceed 15 fps (although QuickTime shows 25 fps in the video file properties). Also, note that audio recording starts approximately one second after video recording starts.

In the dry residue

No wonder Samsung called this smartphone "Ace", oh no wonder. Despite the controversial design and not the highest quality screen, Galaxy Ace is one of the most interesting offers in the price category up to 3000 hryvnia. It even surpasses our current favorite, the LG Optimus One, in features, especially when you consider the excellent 5MP camera and high performance by the standards of this price segment. On the whole, I recommend this device for purchase with a pure heart (although, of course, I would like to familiarize myself with the “sale” sample already). 6 reasons to buy Samsung Galaxy Ace:

  • high (by the standards of this category of smartphones) performance;
  • very good combination of characteristics and prices;
  • high-quality camera;
  • a good set of preinstalled programs - you can start using the phone immediately after purchase;
  • Swype keyboard with Russian and Ukrainian language support.

3 reasons not to buy a Samsung Galaxy Ace:

  • secondary design;
  • no camera button;
  • poor video recording implementation.
