When the new imac comes out. Three new Macs will be released this year

Introduced at the end of October 2018 Mac mini became both more powerful and more expensive - so that it has every right to be called a competitor of the "apple" all-in-one computer-all-in-one iMac. So which one is the best?

Mac mini 2018 and iMac 2017 design

Both the iMac and Mac mini are made of aluminum; also both are designed for desktop use. This is where the similarities end - after all, their form factors are absolutely different from each other.

The dimensions of the Mac mini (19.7 cm on the sides, 3.6 cm in height) are more like a set-top box for cable TV.

Ideal if desk space is limited. The main thing is to find where to put external monitor, mouse and keyboard (they are offered to be purchased separately).

Mac mini 2018 comes with only itself system unit and network cable:

The iMac is a different story altogether. This is an "all-in-one" solution (the system unit is located in the monitor), and from the very beginning there is a monitor - 21.5 or 27 inches with Full HD, 4K or 5K - and a Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse 2.

A number of professionals will, of course, choose the iMac because of its display and all-in-one form factor. But Mac mini benefits from the fact that it can be easily connected to existing "peripherals".

Mac mini 2018 and iMac 2017 performance

Apple has clearly changed the positioning of the Mac mini - now it is not an “entry ticket” to the world of Apple devices, but a compact computer with a claim to be the best solution for everyday tasks.

Yes, the basic version of the new "mini", as they say, is not impressive - for 69 thousand rubles you will be offered only a 4-core i3 3.6 GHz processor (do you remember when such a modest CPU was last used on a Mac ?!), 8 GB RAM and 128 GB PCIe-based SSD (very fast, but not enough space). But the "advanced" version for 94 thousand rubles already offers a 6-core i5 with 3.0 GHz, 8 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD.

The screenshots below show the performance gains over the previous generation Mac mini.

There is no new "mini" in Russia yet, and it is unclear what options can (and can be ordered at all). In the US, for an additional fee, Apple offers and Intel Core i7, and up to 64GB RAM, and up to 2TB SSD. And the cost of all this, of course, will already be decent - for example, Mac mini Late 2018 with Core i7, 16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD will cost $ 1,699.

Another thing is that the modularity of Mac mini requires you to "upgrade" only the processor from i3 to i7 in the basic version (you cannot replace it), and this costs only $ 300. The RAM in Mac mini is now again, like in 2012 models, you can easily update it yourself, and the SSD can be connected external (via any of the four Thunderbolt 3 ports).

The only Achilles' heel of the new Mac mini is its graphics. As before, you still cannot put a discrete graphics card into a minicard from the factory - there is only a modest Intel UHD Graphics 630, even if it is "up to 60% faster" than before. On the other hand, it's now easy to connect to Mac mini external video card- for this, again, there is any of the four Thunderbolt 3.

The iMac is still only offered with 7th Gen Intel processors and a much slower 1TB SSD on SATA.

The screenshots below show the performance gain over the previous generation iMac.

Mac mini 2018 and iMac 2017 ports

The 2018 Mac mini has a more modern set of ports - 4 USB-C / Thunderbolt 3, 2 “regular” USB 3.0, 1 HDMI (enhanced version 2.0), as well as Ethernet and 3.5mm headphone jacks.

In the case of USB ports, the iMac is the opposite - 4 USB 3.0, 2 USB-C, Ethernet and a slot for memory cards.

Who is cooler? We understand Apple's course towards USB-C, but ... even today, 3 years after the Mac transition to USB-C began, it is more pleasant to have 4 "regular" ports, not 4 "new" ones. And professionals who work a lot with photos and videos, all other things being equal, will certainly choose the device with an SDXC slot.

This year, Apple will introduce an updated iMac line, which has not received hardware upgrades for about a year and a half, writes Consomac. The imminent release of monoblocks, according to colleagues, is indicated by the disappearance of the "novelty" indicator, which until yesterday marked the models of the current generation.

Despite the fact that Apple has not indicated its plans to update in any way the lineup branded monoblocks, in contrast to new Macs Book Pro, which are in the EEC long before the release, the company still has time to fix everything. In any case, the release of the updated iMac, traditionally, should not be expected earlier than October.

When will the new iMac be introduced

The authors of the Consomac edition do not recommend waiting for a large-scale iMac upgrade. There is at least one reason for this, which is called the iMac Pro. It is unlikely, colleagues believe, that Apple will volunteer to create a competitor to the professional candy bar, which will have to replace the Mac Pro station for at least another year.

Most likely, Consomac predicts, the updated iMac will receive Coffee Lake processors with six cores, an increased amount of RAM compared to the current generation models, and possibly super-fast SSD memory instead of hard disk in junior models and hybrid storage

At the opening of the WWDC Developers Conference, Apple unveiled the new iMac series all-in-one. The main innovation in these improved models is the use of Intel's seventh generation Kaby Lake processors, and also, according to the Cupertines, the most advanced displays ever released for a Mac. In particular, the brightness of the panels has been increased by 43% to 500 Cd / m2.

21.5-inch model can now be equipped with 32 GB random access memory, and the 27-inch has 64 GB, which is twice the capacity of the previous generation. All-in-ones have also received two Thunderbolt 3 ports, compatible with USB-C - this is the first desktop systems Apple equipped with new standard connectors.

The graphics have also been improved. So, the simplest 21.5-inch model received together with new CPU Integrated Intel Iris Plus 640 accelerator.21.5-inch computers with 4K displays include AMD graphics cards Radeon Pro 555 or 560. Finally, a 27-inch candy bar with a 5K display can be equipped with accelerators Radeon Pro 570, 575 and 580 with video memory up to 8 GB. These new accelerators, along with software innovations from the macOS High Sierra platform, provide new iMacs with support for virtual reality.

As you can see, the outward appearance of the iMac has remained practically unchanged, but nevertheless the company has significantly improved its offerings in terms of technical characteristics and opportunities compared to offerings almost two years ago (previous iMacs were presented to the world in October 2015). In the US, 21.5-inch iMacs start at $ 1100, and 21.5-inch models with 4K screens start at $ 1300. Pre-orders are already being accepted.

In addition to the usual iMac update, the Cupertino company also introduced a much more interesting iMac Pro model, which is designed for professionals and will be released in December. This monoblock with a 27-inch 5K screen (can display up to a billion colors) will be released in December, will receive a processor Intel Xeon with the number of cores up to 18 and graphics with a peak performance of up to 22 teraflops (when processing numbers with half precision; in normal mode single precision - 11 teraflops).

Essentially, this is a workstation in a compact space gray finish. Interestingly, due to flash drives and new system Thermal management The slim, unibody iMac Pro is 80% cooler than ever before. iMac Pro is built for complex graphics editing, virtual reality content creation, and real-time 3D rendering. Probably, the launch was delayed in order to equip the device not only with 18-core processors, but also with an accelerator. AMD Radeon Pro with next-generation Vega graphics architecture and 16GB of built-in high-speed HBM2 memory.

One more important feature The iMac Pro supports SSDs up to 4TB and up to 128GB of ECC RAM. There are four Thunderbolt 3 ports to which you can connect, for example, two high-performance RAID arrays and two 5K monitors at the same time. The new iMac Pro will also feature a 10Gb Ethernet network port for the first time for Apple computers. Unfortunately, all this splendor is not cheap - the starting price will be an impressive $ 5,000.

If the iMac is not enough, Apple experts are finally preparing a completely new full-fledged desktop Mac Pro of the next generation. Little is known about this product so far other than the promise of modular design, superior performance, and a new highest resolution professional monitor.

This fall Apple will update all of its devices, ranging from iPhone and Apple Watch ending with Mac mini and MacBook, iPad Pro and iMac.

Apple to release new 11-inch iPad Pro and updated AirPods

Apple's Spring WWDC was all about software and . It is likely that at the September event, everyone Apple presentations will apply to the company's devices, and not only to the iPhone.

According to a new report released by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will reveal many new products. In addition to the new iPhones, an update is coming for Mac computers mini, iMac, laptop MacBook Pro, Apple Watch, and iPad tablet Pro. According to the analyst, the company will show updates this fall.

Apple to release new 11-inch iPad Pro, refreshed AirPods and new Apple watches this year

In his new report, Min-Chi Kuo added a few details about Apple's upcoming device update. Some of his predictions refer to three new iPhone 2018, the new Mac Mini and charger AirPower. Here's a breakdown of all projected new devices:

  • Apple Watch

It is believed that Apple is currently working on two variants of the fourth generation watch. Both models new Apple Watch 4 will receive a large display. One of the displays can be rounded.

Apple Watch 4 will receive two displays at 1.57 inches (39.9 mm) and 1.78 inches (45.2 mm), respectively. That's about 15 percent more than current Watch 3 models. Also, newer versions of Apple watches will have improved heart rate sensors.

  • iPhone

This year, two are expected to appear. new iPads Pro. The first will arrive in 11 "and the second in 12.9" in size. Probably both iPad model Pro will be made in the style of iPhone X design, with big screen and without the Home button. Apple is expected to install a Face ID sensor on the 2018 iPad Pro instead of the usual Touch ID.

  • MacBook

The update will also affect Macbook and MacBook Pro. According to the analyst, the company is engaged in development. It will likely become the successor to the MacBook Air.

  • Mac and iMac

With a significant boost in display performance, the new iMac arrives. The long-awaited update will also receive the Mac mini. Specific data were not announced.

  • AirPower

Kuo said with hope and confidence that Apple's long-awaited AirPower wireless charging station will be mass-produced in the third quarter of this year. How it will turn out in reality is not yet clear. Although everyone hopes that everything will be launched immediately after the autumn conference.

In addition to all of the above, an update is expected for the second generation of wireless.

I will summarize what was voiced by a respected analyst. Ming-Chi Kuo has more than once justified his predictions regarding new products from Apple. But, these are all only assumptions and guesses, obtained on the basis of rumors and conjectures. Apple has already demonstrated its attitude to this at the spring conference.

The only thing we can say for sure is that only after the official presentation and when the devices can be held in hands, everything will become clear. Until then, we expect new "truthful" data about what Apple will show at the fall conference. We can say that there will be more new products from Apple in 2018 than expected.

Will we see a new iMac in 2019?

The new iMac should definitely show itself to the world, and it's no surprise that we'd love to see it as early as 2019. Because shortly after the 2017 iMac, which was powered by 7th Gen Intel Kaby Lake processors, the chipmaker released 8th Gen processors - followed by the 9th Gen Coffee Lake Refresh processors in 2018. As a result, the processors and, therefore, the performance of the current generation of iMac is already two generations behind, when we talk about the processor, it is the iMac 2019 that could make a difference.

| IMAC 2019: WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?

While we don't know too much about what the iMac 2019 will be like, we have a lot of ideas on how to make the next version of Apple PC a multifunctional device. Check out our offerings to make the 2018 iMac the best iMac on the market.

UPDATED DESIGN

And while we like appearance iMac, its design hasn't changed in the last 12 years, so 2019 could be a good year for a redesign. This can mean minor changes, for example, a general weight loss of the structure, or maybe something more dramatic.

Rumors of a redesign of the iMac have been circulating since the Reddit "Foxconn Insider", who worked for the company. He announced that there will be an update on the iMac and its peripherals.

The aluminum design of the iMac has been a staple product since 2007, so we don't mind seeing a different color option with the Aimac 2019 - perhaps a Space Gray version like the iMac Pro?

INSPIRED BY IMAC PRO

The iMac Pro is a fantastic device, and while it's definitely a product aimed at a completely different audience than the 2019 iMac, there are a few things that the standard iMac could take over from its more expensive sibling.

For example, get rid of the hard drive and go to solid state drives that would allow Apple to make the 2018 iMac thinner and also add speed to the machine. Even better for photographers and video editors, suggest Apple support SD card UHS-II, thus simplifying the work process.

The iMac Pro also features smart cooling technology that helps reduce component temperatures, again offering a slimmer design without noisy fans, something we'd love to see at the Aimac 2019.

However, if Apple's brand new 2019 iMac gets the T2 chips used to provide high-level security and AI with “Hey Siri” commands, users will have to come to terms with the fact that Apple will restrict third-party warranty repairs. Make sure you buy AppleCare, that's all.

Oh, and we mentioned that we would love to see Space gray iMac?

INSPIRED MACBOOK AND IPHONE

While we're talking about ideas from other Apple devices, there are a few things we'd like to borrow from the iPhone and MacBook for the 2018 iMac.

For example, how cool would it be if Apple moved the Touch Bar from some MacBooks to a redesigned one? iMac keyboard? These touch sensitive buttons would be a fantastic addition.

We were also quite impressed with Face ID on the iPhone X, so if Apple is thinking of upgrading the FaceTime camera on the 2018 iMac, we'd love to see facial recognition that lets you unlock your new iMac with just a glance.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT

Despite the fact that we know practically nothing about hardware included with the 2019 iMac, we'd love to have the latest and greatest components when the all-in-one goes on sale.

Now, what we really want to see is Apple's introduction of the latest 9th Gen Coffee Lake Refresh processors in Aimak 2019 so that Apple fans can get access to the 8-core behemoths. But even if Apple goes the conservative route and uses 8th Gen Coffee Lake processors, the iMac 2019 will still see a significant performance boost over its predecessor.

We're also pretty confident that Apple will use one of its T2 coprocessors in the new iMacs (2019), likely to control “Hey Siri” commands like the rest of Apple's devices.

Also, according to the first reports, Apple is working on the creation of its own processors as part of the actively discussed program "Kalamata Initiative". This will lead the Cupertino tech giant to replace everything by 2020. Intel processors on their own. This is certainly an ordeal, but Apple seems to be working pretty well on its own chips in a super-secret lab.

Fingers crossed, we hope that some - or all - of the predictions will come true before the end of this year.

Here are what 2019 has to offer so far.
