For LCD monitors, by default, the "frame scan" frequency is also set to 60 Hz in the driver settings, and most likely you are now reading this text on the monitor, to which the video card (like the old CRT brothers) transmits a picture with a refresh rate of 60 times per second ... But there is a difference - as such, LCD monitors do not have a frame scan, because the LCD screen works "in the light". There is a matrix of crystals that work like doors (to put it in a big simplification). There is always a light behind (matrix illumination lamps), and if the "door is open", we see a glowing pixel. If closed - not luminous. "Imagine an LCD monitor as a house with burning windows, it will be even easier. There are curtains, curtains and partially curtains in the house. These are those pixels.

The third factor: the office environment - air conditioners.

Looking at the monitor is no more harmful than looking at the mountains, your beloved kitten or a piece of sausage in the fridge. Watching is not harmful at all. What is really harmful is looking at a monitor that is too dim or too bright. And not every computer user guesses to adjust the brightness correctly, as before with a frame scan. Moreover, the comfortable brightness of the display is very dependent on the environment - it will be one in a brightly lit room, the other if there is a pair of incandescent lamps from the light in the room, and the third if you are working next to an open window. The average comfortable monitor brightness is about 120 cd / m2.

The fifth factor: the ergonomics of the workplace, and more specifically, its lighting.

It is not so much harmful for the eyes to look at the bright as to fall into sharp changes between bright and dark. What do most users do most often? Shifts your gaze from the screen to the keyboard! Is it well lit with you? Is there an individual lamp on the table? Moreover, workplaces are often completely incorrectly lit, and this difference in brightness just ruins his vision, as it ruins him reading a book with a flashlight under a blanket.

The second question is that the backlight lamps in conventional monitors are located on the side, they shine on a reflective substrate, which pushes through LCD crystals with reflected light. Is that reflected light enough for you? What is the difference between the light of a flashlight (or the sun) directed at a sheet of paper and a flashlight of a monitor backlight? What is the difference between the light reflected from the scattering part of the LED bulb from the sunlight reflected from the table?

When your working day, for the most part, consists of reading and writing text, you have to think about your health.

So why are readers better?

Ok, so that it does not look like fanatical screams of a person who prefers to read from the screen rather than from the reader, I will explain what I like about readers.

First of all, they work for a long time. Charging your device once a week is more enjoyable than charging it every day.

The second factor is that the reader's screen is not entirely white, it is really comfortable to read it on vacation, lying on the beach. More comfortable, by the way, than a paper book. It does not fade in the sun and does not catch the glare of ceiling lamps. I cannot force myself not to read, even knowing that reading in the sun is harmful. Therefore, it is on vacation that I prefer to take a reader. By the way, due to the light gray screen, which reflects light well, the reader heats up much less in the sun. Laptops and tablets, under the same conditions, quickly overheat. Light gray and white - to a lesser extent.

Readers are thin and light - much lighter than tablets and normal paper books.

Readers are cheap - yes, their price even in Russia is much less than that of any tablets. it available device, which also allows you to save a lot of money on literature. And e-books (tracts) do not take up space on the shelves as much as paper literature.

If we compare readers with tablets, then their main drawback is that readers are suitable only for fiction. 2 years ago on my old laptop the settings went wrong and I worked for half a year behind an incorrectly configured screen. As a result, my vision was very bad.

I managed to restore my vision during a retreat in a meditation center, where I did not use any electronic devices in a week. After 7 days of constant meditation and fasting in the mountains, my normal vision returned to me again. And now I clearly see how it improves when I spend time in nature, admiring the beauty of the Earth, and not the screen of a tablet ... But I do not want to exclude a phone, tablet and laptop from my life, out of 24 hours in a day - 10 am I spend, staring at the screen: I work, I read, I look for ideas for knitting, I watch movies or TV shows, I talk to my parents, I write texts, etc.

I try to be in nature as often as possible and do exercises for my eyes. It really helps! That's why when the developers sent us an email telling us about their new app for training eyes, I downloaded it right away.

Draw a simple 3 by 3 chart. Fill it in with words (or wishes) that are important to you. Leave the center of the table blank.

Every half hour (start a timer on your phone or computer to be sure), distract from what you are doing and do eye exercises. To do this, imagine that you are a small dot and are in the center of the table.

You will no longer need the drawn table, just remember what words you have placed in it. You need to work with an imaginary table.

You lift your eyes up and see your upper word (more precisely, the image that corresponds to it), touch to the right and see another word, look at the lower left corner and ...

Is the principle clear? It is important not only to see the word, but to feel it, to connect to the image.

Gradually add other movements: for example, circular, trying to see-feel all the words from the table. First clockwise, then counterclockwise. Then add left-right movements by combining the two matching words, as well as diagonally and crosswise. Create your own trajectory for the movement of the eyes, combining images into a coherent whole.
