10 core xiaomi smartphone. The best ten-core smartphones

Most recently, XiaoMi presented in its line of notebooks new smartphone Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and today we have it on review. The delivery set of the device remains unchanged: a charger with a maximum current of 2 A, a USB cable, a clip for removing the SIM card and the phone itself. The design is slightly different from the previous model in the line, but in this respect the device has not received any radical changes, except for the stylish all-metal case with rounded shapes.

In general, the assembly of the smartphone can be called solid, especially when you consider the value for money. This model is equipped with a good OGS display with a diagonal of 5.5 inches (FullHD, 2.5D - curved glass) and IPS matrix... Why good? As in most cases, the white color is far from ideal, but in this smartphone in the screen settings you can change the temperature of the display colors to suit you. There is a choice of standard, cold and warm shades, and for those who like to read at night, a special mode is provided.

In general, even in the standard mode, the colors look quite saturated and the maximum brightness is quite sufficient. The finger glides across the screen without hesitation, and the multitouch test carried out recognized ten points of touch. The image on the screen can be seen clearly from different viewing angles. This device works under the control of the operating room Android systems 6.0. V official version the firmware is missing from the Play Store, but those who are familiar with Chinese smartphones know how to easily fix this flaw. But there is preinstalled app for infrared port operation.

The smartphone has a function that is responsible for waking up the device when you double-click on the screen. Connecting to GPS and GLONASS satellites is done without any problems. The battery with a capacity of 4100 mAh with Wi-Fi turned on for 6 hours of various tests on a smartphone at 100% brightness left 40% of the charge in stock. And here are the results of some tests.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 smartphone is available in two trim levels. The younger version has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage on board. The older model comes with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

On the front side there are touch buttons "List latest applications"," Home "and" Back ". Above the screen there is an earpiece, a front-facing camera and a light sensor with an approach. On the right is the power button and a double volume rocker. On the left, there is a combined tray of two SIM cards or one SIM card and an SD card (up to 128GB).

On the upper end part there is a headset connector, an infrared port for controlling devices and a second microphone. On the bottom end there is a speaker, main microphone and Micro-USB. The back has a fingerprint scanner (360 degrees) with 100% triggering, a camera (13.0 megapixels) and an LED flash. The main technical characteristics of our model are:

  • Processor: Helio X20 2.1GHz;
  • RAM: 3 GB;
  • Built-in memory: 64 GB;
  • Wireless connectivity: 3G, 4G, Bluetooth, GPS, GSM;
  • Wi-Fi standards: 802.11a / b / g / n / ac;
  • Support for memory cards: up to 128GB (not included in the package);
  • Display diagonal: 5.5 inches (with a resolution of 1920 x 1200);
  • Pixels Per Inch (PPI): 401PPI;
  • Battery Capacity (mAh): 4100mAh;
  • Rear camera: 13.0 MP, with LED flash and AF;
  • Front camera: 5.0 MP;
  • Touch Focus: Supported.

In conclusion, I would like to note that thanks to a good 4100mAh battery, the smartphone can last one day or more on a single charge, depending on the type of use. Many manufacturers still build 3100mAh batteries in 5.5-inch smartphones. It should also be noted good sound headphone and main speaker, as well as an attractive appearance... The smartphone is assembled conscientiously does not crunch or backlash.

Unfortunately, at the start of sales there is no firmware with Russian language and you will have to wait for the bootloader to be unlocked. Despite the fact that XIAOMI is gradually becoming an assembly line, all their smartphones are good in their own way.

Xiaomi, according to the plan, showed the top smartphone Redmi Note 4. The novelty attracts not only with its characteristics, but also with an affordable price.

In terms of filling, the device has a 5.5-inch Full HD screen (protected by 2.5D glass) and a ten-core MediaTek Helio X20 processor with a clock frequency of 2.1 GHz. In addition, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is presented in several versions with different memory sizes - 2/16 GB and 3/64 GB.

Responsible for the pictures is a duo, consisting of a 13 megapixel main camera and a 5 megapixel selfie camera. The former boasts a 5-element f / 2.0 lens with phase detection autofocus and HDR mode. It can record standard Full HD video at 30 frames per second, as well as slow motion in HD resolution at 120 frames per second. The front camera is equipped with an f / 2.0 aperture lens, face detection and is paired with the Beauty 2.0 app.

The rear panel houses a fingerprint scanner, and the gadget is powered by a 4100 mAh battery. Supports fast charging and dual SIM cards. Operating system- Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI 8 shell.

The phablet is housed in an all-metal case in a choice of silver, gold or dark gray. Dimensions are 151 x 76 x 8.35 mm and weighs 175 grams.

Sales in China will start tomorrow (August 26) on the official website and in the company's physical stores. The younger version of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (16 GB) was priced at $ 135, and the older version (64 GB) - at $ 180.

Xiaomi is the most popular Chinese equipment manufacturer in Russia. This is evidenced as statistics search queries(a month, the query "Xiaomi" in Yandex is typed 3.4 million times, the query "Lenovo" - 2.6 million, the query "Huawei" - 1.5 million), and the sales results: in the top 10 most popular Android -smartphones in Russia at the end of 2017 included 4 Xiaomi models (this is exactly how, with an emphasis on the last syllable, pronounced in Chinese brand name; such fruits of Russian folk art as Xiaomi, Xiaomi, Xiaomi or Shaomi are wrong), while the models of other Chinese manufacturers did not even manage to get into the top ten. If you look at the statistics of sales of Android smartphones around the world, then in the top 10 there are 5 Xiaomi models at once, and in the first place in sales both in Russia and in the world there is also a smartphone from Xiaomi. What is the secret of the tremendous success of this manufacturer? In an excellent combination of "price-quality": Xiaomi offers models with very good characteristics.

The catalog of Xiaomi models is updated almost every month, so even fans of this brand can find it difficult to figure out whether to change their last year's device to a new one or wait for the next novelty, and for those who are thinking about buying a smartphone from this manufacturer for the first time, it is doubly difficult to figure it out. in the sea different models... There is a fingerprint scanner. Metal case with plastic inserts on the top and bottom of the rear panel.

If we compare this model with last year's flagships of the family (winter Redmi Note 3 Pro and summer Redmi Note 4), thanks to the new processor and graphics chip, Redmi Note 4X has added autonomy and performance, and thanks to the new Sony IMX258 camera module, the quality of shooting has noticeably improved. Apparently, Redmi Note 4X will become one of the most popular models of 2019, which is facilitated by the excellent combination of "price-quality", which is what Xiaomi is famous for.

1 Xiaomi Mi 6 64GB - Xiaomi smartphone with the best camera and maximum performance

The average price in Russia is 28,000 rubles. You can buy Mi 6 64Gb on AliExpress for 24.9 thousand rubles (delivery to Russia is free). The official start of sales of the new Xiaomi flagship took place on July 4, 2019. To date, Mi 6 64Gb has scored 60% of the top fives in reviews in the Yandex-Market (see reviews about Xiaomi Mi6).

Specifications: IPS screen 5.15 inches with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels, Android 7.1 operating system, 64 GB of permanent and 6 GB of RAM, support for two SIM cards. There is no support for an external memory card, although 64 GB is more than enough for the average smartphone user. Battery capacity 3350 mAh. Time autonomous work in video mode - 9.7 hours, in game mode - 7 hours. In terms of autonomy, Mi 6 is about one and a half times superior to flagships such as the iPhone 7 Plus or Huawei P10. The 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 MSM8998 processor, together with the already mentioned 6 GB of RAM, give excellent performance: Mi 6 is the third most powerful smartphone in the world (and the second among Android smartphones), it is second only to HTC U11 and iPhone 7 Plus (antutu rating results .com). There is a fingerprint scanner. There is protection against water.

Xiaomi smartphones have always been great technical characteristics but couldn't boast of a perfect camera. The camera of the new flagship in Xiaomi is positioned as a real alternative to the iPhone 7 Plus. The main camera of Mi 6 is equipped with two lenses, a wide-angle and a telephoto lens, both with a resolution of 12 megapixels, as well as a 4-axis system optical stabilization... Working in pairs, these cameras allow you to take beautiful and clear pictures in any conditions. Portrait mode allows you to take clear, high-quality photos. The Mi 6 has a 52mm portrait lens. The camera with 2x optical zoom captures stunning landscape shots, while the 10x digital zoom is able to capture even the smallest details from a distance. Mi 6 with 4-axis OIS technology captures clear images by capturing even the smallest vibrations. The built-in accelerometer and gyroscope stabilize the tilt and movement of the smartphone while shooting.

The front camera received 8 megapixels and new firmware... The technology of beautiful filters Beautify 3.0 reacts differently to men and women - it changes the appearance of men a little less. For women, they reduce the cheeks, smoothen the skin and slightly enlarge the eyes to a greater extent.

The hi-tech.mail.ru portal in the June 2019 flagship camera comparison gave the Xiaomi flagship camera the same points as Sony Xperia XZ Premium. At the same time, Mi 6 was able to bypass the flagship of ASUS - ZenFone 3 Zoom, which is positioned as a camera phone.

So, new flagship Xiaomi has a good camera and battery life as well as excellent performance. All this is at a price twice lower than that of the flagships of Samsung or Apple. At the same time, this model will not suit fans of large screens - the display diagonal is only 5.15 inches.

A smartphone with a large number of cores is able to efficiently consume battery power - we wrote about this in an article on 8-core smartphones. The 10-core processor reduces power consumption by an additional 30%. Such a chipset has a three-cluster structure: 2 of its cores have the highest power (read - clock frequency), the next 4 are characterized by average performance, and finally, the last 4 are rather low-power, but they also consume the least charge. When a user performs a simple operation (like checking messages in VK), the smartphone uses the last, weakest cluster - thanks to this, energy is spent more wisely.

Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 818 with 10 cores back in 2015, but this processor "did not go to the masses" - perhaps because it had a rather strange structure: it included 4 powerful cores and 2 medium-performance ones. But the main competitor MediaTek has mastered the three-cluster structure perfectly - almost all 10-core smartphones in the modern mobile market are equipped with MTK chipsets.

  • CPU:
  • Memory (operational / user): 4 GB / 64 GB
  • Screen: 5.47-inch diagonal, HD + resolution
  • Camera (rear / front): 13 megapixels / 16 megapixels
  • Battery: 2 800 mAh

Price: from 8990 rubles

The model, released at the end of 2018, belongs to ultra-budget devices, but at the same time pleases the owner pleasantly. A gadget created by an unknown Chinese brand and most likely will not attract a large number of buyers, but at the same time it has interesting features. First of all, the design pleases - it is a beautiful case with glass panels on the back and front, the frame is usually metal. To improve aesthetic qualities, bronze-colored stripes have been added to add texture and thereby improve ergonomics. The slightly protruding main camera is highlighted in the same color. The model received a Type-C connector, which may not be surprising, but it's nice given the love of many and even famous manufacturers to put the old microUSB in the budget segment, but the lack of 3.5 can be considered a disadvantage, however, there is an adapter for headphones in the kit.

In addition to pleasant visual qualities, the model has a chipset that is not bad for a budget level and decent memory indicators. The device received a single camera on the back and front, and both show a good result for their price when shooting photos and videos. The presence of additional module cameras on the front panel, as well as the presence of an "extra" physical button on the left side. If you look at the settings, then everything becomes clear - the button is needed to start the unlock function by the iris of the eye, and the auxiliary camera is responsible for performing this procedure. Also, the device has a finger scanner placed on back panel... In addition to the above, the device received a fashionable and suitable HD + resolution for a small diagonal. The battery is modest by modern standards - 2 800 mAh, but it is enough for one working day. The result is a beautiful model with good characteristics for a small amount of money.

Advantages:

  • Beautiful design.
  • Large amount of memory.
  • Retinal unlocking.
  • High quality camera.

Disadvantages:

  • Small battery capacity.
  • No headphone jack.

Elephone soldier

  • Processor: MediaTek Helio X25, clock speed 2 × 2.5 GHz + 4 × 2 GHz + 4 × 1.55 GHz
  • Memory (operational / user): 4 GB and 64/128 GB
  • Screen: 5.5 inch diagonal, 2560 * 1440 resolution
  • Camera (rear / front): 21 megapixels / 16 megapixels
  • Battery: 5000mAh

Price: from 12247 rubles

An interesting and controversial model from a manufacturer from China. The device is a rugged gadget with a "heavy" design, rubberized sides and protection against shock, water and dust. It's hard enough to talk about a beautiful appearance, but this is a device for active people, no one expects aesthetics from it. Against this background, the 2K display looks strange, by the way, the manufacturer says that this model is the first protected device with such a high matrix resolution. The expediency of this decision is questionable. The new product is powerful camera with the ability to shoot 4K, as well as a 5000 mAh battery. The company says the camera is a Sony brand.

In addition, the device received a compass, flashlight, magnifying glass, plumb line, pedometer, level, protractor and noise meter. In fact, the phone is a kind of best friend for builders, hunters and people who love outdoor activities far from civilization. A pleasant fact is the presence in the model, two ranges of wi-fi. In general, the device is quite interesting and strange solutions, for example, high resolution are not disadvantages. But the most important drawback is low autonomy. For protected models, this is one of the most important indicators and, it would seem, with a 5000 mAh battery, this should not be a problem, but in fact, charging is consumed very quickly. In fact, it is not enough even for a working day, provided that the scheme of use is standard without serious loads like games or navigation.

Advantages:

  • Protection against water, shock, dirt.
  • Large amount of memory.
  • Great camera.
  • Lots of useful tools.
  • The presence of NFC.
  • Dual-band wi-fi.

Disadvantages:

  • Extremely low autonomy.

Meizu Pro 7 Plus

  • Processor: MediaTek Helio X30, clock speed 2 × 2.5 GHz + 4 × 2.2 GHz + 4 × 1.9 GHz
  • Memory (operational / user): 6 GB and 64/128 GB
  • Screen: 5.7-inch diagonal, QHD resolution
  • Camera (rear / front): 12 + 12MP / 16MP
  • Battery: 3,500mAh

Price: from 16200 rubles

The device was released in 2017 and was positioned as a flagship, but taking into account the current price and parameters, it remains relevant and possibly more in demand. A lot has already been said about the device, so it is worth highlighting the main interesting points. First of all, we are pleased with the high-quality AMOLED matrix with high resolution and classic aspect ratio. This may be important for some users. For its not the highest price in 2019, the device offers a large amount of RAM and main memory. The battery is of a standard size, but with support for fast charging. The chipset, even taking into account the long period from the date of release, shows good results and will allow you to enjoy games and smooth operation at loads.

Cameras shoot for the price tag is not bad, but at the time of the release of the device and its cost of 45 thousand rubles, they raised questions, in particular, it was a strange decision not to equip it with laser autofocus and an optical stabilizer. One more point - there is no NFC. The model received a built-in audio processor, which significantly affects the sound quality - music lovers will appreciate it. But the main feature of the gadget is the presence of an additional AMOLED screen on the back panel. It is needed to display notifications and selfies on the main camera. Taking into account the current price, the phone is more than a worthy option for buying, at the time of its release it was not the most reasonable decision, since there were more interesting gadgets for 45 thousand.

Advantages:

  • High-quality display.
  • High performance.
  • Interesting design.
  • Fast charging.

Disadvantages:

  • No NFC.

Ulefone Gemini Pro

  • Processor: MediaTek Helio X27, clock speed 2 × 2.6 GHz + 4 × 2 GHz + 4 × 1.8 GHz
  • Memory (operational / user): 4 GB and 64 GB
  • Screen: 5.5-inch diagonal, FHD resolution
  • Camera (rear / front): 13 + 13MP / 8MP
  • Battery: 3 680 mAh

Price: from 10999 rubles

The model of mid-2017, which is still successfully sold in Russia and for its money, is a good solution. The device is made in black and red colors, the body is made of aluminum. From the point of view of appearance - everything is quite typical, some borrowings from Apple, a finger scanner built into the touch button under the display, the latter has a classic aspect ratio. The Gorilla Glass 3 bezel is closed.

The device has a good performance for its price, but capacious battery shows not the best autonomy. The device is barely enough for a working day. The camera takes high-quality pictures, the dual main module supports pictures with the bokeh effect. In general, the phone is not bad for its money, although it is difficult to call it a clear leader in the segment.

Advantages:

  • Small, high-resolution display.
  • Good picture quality.
  • Fast charging.

Disadvantages:

  • No NFC.
  • Average level of autonomy.
  • The finger scanner does not always work accurately.

Elephone S7

  • CPU: MediaTek Helio X20, clocked at 2 × 2.1 GHz + 4 × 1.85 GHz + 4 × 1.4 GHz
  • 4 GB / 64 GB
  • Screen:
  • 13 Mpix / 5 Mpix
  • Battery: 3,000 mAh

Price: from 14 990 rubles

Immediately after the release of Elephone S7, many "experts" rushed to hang the label " fake", Stating that it is just a low-grade imitation of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. And they were wrong - the Elephone S7 turned out to be quite a distinctive and pretty device, while also affordable.

First of all, the bezel-less screen of the device should be noted - it's great! S7 was provided with several innovative technologies at once aimed at improving image quality - for example, Incell Full Lamination guarantees a good picture even at maximum viewing angles. There is also the Adaptive Brightness function, thanks to which the smartphone itself adjusts the screen brightness depending on external conditions - this has a positive effect on autonomy.

With the latter, by the way, the smartphone is all right. Yes, the battery capacity is not a record one, but in fact the smartphone can easily last a couple of days without recharging. In standby mode, the gadget loses only 2% in 8 hours. Thanks for that is worth saying to the economical 10-core processor from MediaTek.

Dignity:

disadvantages:

  • Back cover glossy plastic is too easily soiled.
  • The operating system is outdated (Android 6.0).

Excluded from selection

Xiaomi Redmi Pro 32 Gb

  • CPU: MediaTek Helio X20, clocked at 2 × 2.1 GHz + 4 × 1.85 GHz + 4 × 1.4 GHz
  • Memory (operational / user): 3 GB / 32 GB
  • Screen: 5.5-inch diagonal, FullHD resolution
  • Camera (back / front): 13 Mpix / 5 Mpix
  • Battery: 4050 mAh

We note right away that the 10-core Helio X20 processor is only in the standard version of the Xiaomi Redmi Pro. The more powerful version contains the Helio X25, also 10-core. However, the upgraded Redmi Pro costs so much more than the standard one that buying it is devoid of expediency.

Xiaomi Redmi Pro is metal smartphone no designer frills, but with a decent dual camera and an excellent flagship AMOLED screen. The gadget has a fairly powerful battery, which, coupled with an energy efficient processor, is capable of providing 2 days of battery life under average load.

The main disadvantage of the device looks like hybrid slot- a design solution that forces the user to choose between a second SIM card and a MicroSD, a common misfortune for Xiaomi smartphones. Fortunately, the built-in storage of the Redmi Pro is sufficient.

Dignity:

disadvantages:

  • Hybrid slot.
  • Impressive weight (almost 180 grams) and thickness.

  • CPU: MediaTek Helio X25 clocked at 2x2.5GHz + 4x2GHz + 4x1.55GHz
  • Memory (operational / user): 4 GB / 32 GB
  • Screen: diagonal 5.2 inches, FullHD resolution
  • Camera (back / front): 21 Mpix / 5 Mpix
  • Battery: 2 560 mAh

In the summer of 2017, Meizu launched the Pro 7 and Pro 7 Plus models with 10-core Helio X30 processors - the best of those that MediaTek developers have been able to achieve. However, these devices were not included in our rating - due to the unreasonable high cost (Pro 7 Plus costs under 50 thousand rubles), and also because there was too little time to make sure of their high quality. In the top was the model of the previous generation Meizu Pro 6 is a proven smartphone with a 10-core processor and a modest price tag.

Meizu Pro 6 justifies every ruble of its value. It is a metal-cased music smartphone with a beautiful wide viewing angle screen and a high-resolution rear camera. The performance of the smartphone is enough to provide the user with the opportunity to play the demanding Dead Trigger 2 and Asphalt 8 without freezing. The battery has a small capacity, but this disadvantage is compensated for by an energy efficient processor. You can watch FullHD video on the Pro 6 for 14 hours in a row, but in games the smartphone shows more mediocre results - only 4 hours.

Vernee Apollo Lite

  • CPU: MediaTek Helio X20, clocked at 2 × 2.3 GHz + 4 × 1.85 GHz + 4 × 1.4 GHz
  • Memory (operational / user): 4 GB / 32 GB
  • Screen: 5.5-inch diagonal, FullHD resolution
  • Camera (back / front): 16 Mpix / 5 Mpix
  • Battery: 3 180 mAh

Do you want a smartphone that, at a cost of 10 thousand rubles, is able to dial almost 100,000 "parrots" in AnTuTu? We'll have to take a chance and order from China a model of the little-known Vernee company in Russia - Apollo Lite. In China, by the way, Vernee's gadgets are far more popular - the manufacturer claims an increased demand for Apollo Lite, and this is indirectly confirmed by the fact that the first batch of smartphones “scattered” in just a few hours.

Vernee Apollo Lite has a strict design - the body is almost completely made of anodized aluminum, only the inserts from the bottom and top are made of plastic - they hide the antennas. The performance of the Chinese gadget is at its best: the chipset was developed for a QHD screen, but the device received a display with a lower resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels - so there is even a reserve in terms of power. Apollo Lite works no less smartly than modern Samsung A-series and the flagship of the year-old Galaxy S6.

In terms of autonomy, the smartphone from Vernee is comparable to the Meizu Pro 6. In games at maximum brightness, the battery will last for 4 hours, with economical use, you can "squeeze" the battery out of up to 2 days.

Dignity:

  • Metallic design.
  • Availability of 3.5-Jack and USB Type-C.
  • Technology support fast charging Pump Express 3.0.
  • An impressive amount of RAM.

disadvantages:

  • The smartphone is too thick (9.2 mm).
  • The Vernee gadget is not on sale in Russia.

Umi Z

  • CPU: MediaTek Helio X27 clocked at 2x2.6GHz + 4x2GHz + 4x1.6GHz
  • Memory (operational / user): 4 GB / 32 GB
  • Screen: 5.5-inch diagonal, FullHD resolution
  • Camera (back / front): 13 Mpix / 13 Mpix
  • Battery: 3,780 mAh

The Umi company cannot boast of an excellent reputation. Every now and then, it releases smartphones for sale unfinished and with such glaring flaws that it is simply impossible not to notice on tests - for this it regularly gets "nuts" from experts. At the same time, you will not be able to ignore Umi devices either - many of them are equipped with unique technologies or are champions in one area or another. Like, for example, Umi Z is the first device to come out with Helio X27.

The most powerful cluster of the Z model operates at a clock speed of 2.6 GHz, which is higher than that of all other representatives of our top. In AnTuTu, the gadget is gaining 114,000 "parrots" - which is also impressive. Average autonomy: the battery provides up to 5 hours of screen time - that is, with moderate use, the gadget will "live" without an outlet for 1-1.5 days.

The main disadvantage of Umi Z is that it it gets very hot- given that the body is made of metal, it becomes impossible to use the device. And the high temperature negatively affects the overall performance of the device - you don't need to be an expert to understand this. However, one can hope that the Umi developers will eliminate this flaw with the next updates.

Dignity:

  • Powerful chipset.
  • Minimum price.
  • Loud external speaker.
  • Supports Pump Express + fast charging technology.

disadvantages:

  • The smartphone is getting too hot.
  • The brand does not inspire confidence.

Conclusion

Despite the fact that in 2017 MediaTek introduced a new chipset with 10 Helio X30 cores and a little later X35, which, according to the manufacturer itself, is even more energy efficient and better in performance, this did not have a serious impact on the market. Deca-core smartphones come out literally in single versions and mainly in the middle and cheap segment. In flagships, the Snapdragon 845 (855) chipset feels best and there are no prerequisites for the situation to change yet.

Although it mostly sells handsets in its home country, users around the world import quite a few of its models due to their low prices.

Xiaomi Redmi Pro is one such attention-grabbing product. It has a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED screen, dual camera with focus and bokeh, a massive 4050mAh battery, a decent MediaTek Helio X20 processor, and 32GB of flash storage.

While the hardware may look great on paper, there have been quite a few Chinese machines that never met expectations or included non-localized software or reworked Android version... The latter applies exactly to Redmi Pro, so get ready: if you want to work with this device outside of China, you will have to make changes to the system yourself.

It doesn't follow that Redmi Pro should be ignored. The device, at its low price, has a number of advantages, especially in terms of hardware... However, it falls into the category for enthusiasts and geeks who know the meanings of words like "firmware" and "root", while average users want something that they can start working with right away without "reworking a file."

What hardware aspects of the Redmi Pro are worth mentioning? Let's start with the design, which is pretty familiar here to those who follow the smartphone market.

Redmi Pro uses a combination of brushed aluminum on the back with curves along all four edges and a glass front with white or black bezels, depending on the option chosen. For a mid-priced smartphone, the build quality is fantastic and the smartphone itself is attractive, but many of the design elements have been borrowed from other models, from companies like Apple.

The front panel is a slimmer version of the options from the latest iPhones and. Below the large screen is a fingerprint scanner with rounded corners, next to it are capacitive navigation buttons, a small speaker and sensors on top. The design can be called secondary, typical for the devices of 2016.

Aluminum rear panel with silver finish reminds of the original model Htc one... The metal back is not curved like the HTC One, but the large circular cameras sit on top, plus the white antenna stripes - they make the Redmi Pro look like a product from the HTC factories.

The machined metal edges are reminiscent of the model. The back metal side is solid and rolled over the edges, leaving only a little white plastic on the front. In the hands, they feel like rather sharp corners, which also reminds of the design of the One M9. Despite this, the device is comfortable to hold, and such edges prevent it from slipping out of your hands.

The metal in the housing has several advantages. It looks great, with it Redmi Pro has a more expensive look. It's nice when manufacturers of devices in the middle price category do not skimp on design, Xiaomi is one of such manufacturers. Redmi Pro feels solid in the hand, also due to the embossed aluminum.

The lower edge of the device is similar to models and. In the center is located USB port type C with screws and two speaker grilles with six holes each.

The left edge has a single tray for two nano-SIM cards or one SIM and one microSD. On the opposite side are the volume control and the power button, the click when pressed is not as clear as we would like. Upstairs is a 3.5mm audio jack and an infrared sensor for remote control multimedia devices.

With a case thickness of 8.2 mm and a weight of 174 g, Xiaomi does not set records for finesse. Considering the 4050 mAh battery, the device seems rather compact. Problems with working with a 5.5-inch screen do not arise due to the moderate size of the frames at the edges. This screen is more convenient to operate than, for example, a.

Xiaomi Redmi Pro screen

Xiaomi Redmi Pro uses an AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with a density of 401 ppi. This is a non-flagship screen, they usually have a resolution of 1440p at this size, but the price here is half the price. At this size, 1080p is quite sufficient and gives good sharpness.

AMOLED technology has a number of advantages, including ideal black levels for excellent contrast. Viewing angles are usually excellent as well, but the Redmi Pro uses a series of filters between the screen and the glass, so the brightness drops off at larger angles.

A worryingly high brightness of just 330 nits is less than most smartphones of this tier and above, making it difficult to operate the screen in direct sunlight. 330 nits on AMOLED isn't exactly awful (smartphones give out about the same), but the Redmi Pro does not automatically increase brightness above 500 nits in sunlight, which Samsung can boast.

Color performance isn't impressive either. Like most smartphones with AMOLED, the color range is closer to 100% Adobe RGB than 100% sRGB. However, Android has no color management mechanisms, so displaying sRGB images on an Adobe RGB screen tends to oversaturate. Android needs color management tools to harness the potential of screens that can do more than deal with the sRGB color space.

This does not excuse Xiaomi in this case, since the company did not pay enough attention to color accuracy, leaving Redmi Pro with an oversaturated sloppy screen. By default, the panel is too cold with a color temperature of around 7900K, resulting in poor gray accuracy. The shade of blue spoils the yellow color, which sometimes becomes greenish, and the green itself is not as accurate and saturated as we would like.

The screen performance can be slightly improved by switching from auto contrast mode to standard mode in the settings. This brings the saturation back to the sRGB limits, but does not correct the bluish tint on the screen. The result is minimal improvements in accuracy, and if so, you can leave the default settings.

Xiaomi has included a Reading Mode in the Redmi Pro, which adds a strong yellow filter to reduce eye strain when reading over time. This function should not be used to correct screen colors. For professionals with high demands on color accuracy, this smartphone is not suitable.

Hardware and performance

Xiaomi Redmi Pro uses two of the most powerful processor MediaTek. Here are the options:
  1. Exclusive Edition- MediaTek Helio X25 - 4GB Storage - 128GB Flash
  2. High Edition- MediaTek Helio X25 - 3GB Storage - 64GB Flash
  3. Standard Edition - MediaTek Helio X20 - 3GB storage - 32GB flash (reviewed in this review)
Helio X20 and Helio X25 are similar to each other, differing in clock frequencies. Both processors are 10-cores with three clusters of cores: the first has two ARM Cortex-A72 cores for maximum load; the second has four Cortex-A53 cores for medium load; in the third four Cortex-A53 for minimum load.

This design differs from the usual big.LITTLE configuration by adding a third cluster of cores. This is a solution to a problem that MediaTek sees in flagship chip designs, allowing the Helio X20 and X25 to have more "transfer rates" and thus better efficiency.

The main difference between the X20 and X25 is the nominal frequency of the Cortex-A72 cores. In the X25 it is 2.5 GHz, in the X20 it is equal to 2.3 GHz, although in the Standard Edition there is only 2.1 GHz. The other two 4-core A53 clusters have the same frequencies in all variants. One operates at 1.4 GHz, the other at 2 GHz.

The Helio X20 and X25 oppose the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 chip, which uses a similar design, only without the Cortex-A53 mid-cluster. MediaTek has an advantage in technological process: X20 / X25 comes in 20nm and Snapdragon 650 comes in 28nm.

In terms of graphics, this is an ARM Mali-T880 MP4 clocked at 700 MHz (Helio X20) and 850 MHz (Helio X25). This resembles the variant of the HiSilicon Kirin 955 chip on the P9 smartphone, only the clock speeds are lower. Mali-T880 is used in Samsung Exynos 8890 of devices Samsung Galaxy S7, although Samsung opted for the 12-core (MP12) option.

Since the review deals with the Standard Edition, the benchmarks show the lowest results among all versions of Redmi Pro.

Redmi Pro only supports Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / n on 2.4GHz bands, no Wi-Fi ac and 5GHz. There is Bluetooth 4.2, A-GNSS + BDS, infrared sensor for remote control, LTE category 6 for Europe. There is no NFC communication standard.

Redmi Pro's performance conventional applications very interesting. The Helio X20 is nearly the fastest MediaTek chip, rivaling the Snapdragon 650 on paper, but the Redmi Pro doesn't feel particularly fast. You can't call it slow, but smartphones with Snapdragon 650 feel more frisky.

In the process of everyday use of Redmi Pro, two problems were noticed: input lag when typing on the keyboard and slow loading of applications. The speed inside apps is okay, but the keyboard sometimes doesn't keep up with the user, which indicates processor issues and is annoying. Slow loading of applications indicates flash memory issues.

A number of tests in the Chrome browser show the Helio X20 lagging behind the Snapdragon 650, sometimes twofold. In real use, this means much worse performance.

It looks like the inclusion of a third 4-core Cortex-A53 cluster slows down the speed compared to dual-cluster processors. Instead of switching from the A53 during idle to the fast A72 during intensive work, the Redmi Pro transfers the load to the mid-range A53s. This is not how the 6-core Snapdragon 650 works, in which a cluster of A72 cores is responsible for working with the browser. This could be due to issues with the MediaTek Helio X20 and Chrome driver slowing down the speed.

Apart from Chrome, Cortex-A72 cores are regularly used for heavy tasks. In other benchmarks, the Snapdragon 650 has a slight performance advantage over the Helio X20 due to the higher clock speeds. Using four medium-sized A53 cores did nothing, since programs do not use ten cores at the same time, rarely using more than four.

Graphics, throttling and storage

The Mali-T880 MP4 is clocked at 700 MHz, competing with the Adreno 510 from the Snapdragon 650 at a slightly higher frequency. The Redmi Pro is much faster in graphics processing than the Snapdragon 410 and 617, while the Kirin 955 is 7% faster.

Like Snapdragon 650 and Kirin 955, there are no problems with games at 1080p, graphics performance is normal. Redmi Pro drops frequencies by about 25% under heavy load after 15-20 minutes, unlike Snapdragon 650, due to which the latter leads in long-term use.

There is a "performance mode" in the software, which increases the time before the frequency is reset by about 5 minutes. This slightly increases the speed of work due to the additional consumption of energy, but then the frequencies still drop.

The flash speed of the Redmi Pro is poor, so apps load slowly and files are copied slowly. Sequential read and write is terrible, slowest known modern smartphones... Working with random blocks of data is faster, but not particularly. This is a rather unexpected surprise, as the specs of the Xiaomi Mi Max show good data transfer rates to NAND memory.

Redmi Pro cameras

One of the main advertising points of Redmi Pro is the dual camera on the back. Dual cameras appeared this year in many smartphones, their implementation in different manufacturers differs. Apple uses a second camera on the iPhone 7 Plus to provide 2x zoom, wide-angle lenses. The Redmi Pro uses a variant in the style of the Huawei P9, where two cameras combine information to change focus and add depth.

Xiaomi does not copy the Huawei variant directly. The P9 uses two 12MP sensors, one color, the other monochrome, the latter adding detail to the photo. The Redmi Pro uses a 13MP main camera and a 5MP secondary camera to provide depth. It looks like a variant.

The 13MP main camera uses an IMX258 1 / 3.06inch CMOS sensor with 1.12nm pixels, 25mm f / 2.0 lenses and dual LED flash. The second sensor is made by Samsung, the lenses are not mentioned. In front there is a 5 megapixel camera with f / 2.0 aperture and an angle of view of 85 degrees.

The quality of the main camera of the Redmi Pro is acceptable, but despite the good components, it is not a competitor to the flagships. Most of the photos are on par with mid-to-low-price smartphones like the Moto G4, and processing needs to be done to raise the quality above average.

Photos from Redmi Pro give an average amount of detail for a resolution of 13 megapixels, Xiaomi applies the minimum digital noise suppression filter. This leads to graininess in photographs in low light.

Rear sensor dynamic range is good but not outstanding; there is automatic function HDR to expand it in high contrast. By using f / 2.0 lenses, the bokeh effect is better than average with good background blur, but a wide aperture can lead to color aberration in bright light. You will hardly notice this without a zoom.

Colors are a matter of luck, which is common for medium and lower cameras. When photographing outdoors with good lighting Redmi Pro can produce great photos with accurate colors. If the lighting is imperfect, the Redmi Pro lacks color saturation, which is especially noticeable indoors.

Some photos even under these conditions come out with accurate saturated colors with ideal exposure and white balance. The inconsistency in this kind of lighting is not observed with cameras or, so the Redmi Pro falls short of them.

At night, Redmi Pro produces surprisingly bright and vibrant images for the camera without optical stabilization and large pixels. Autofocus in low light can be problematic, resulting in blurry and grainy photos.

The front camera doesn't break quality records either, but it's enough for selfies, even indoors and in low light. As well rear camera, it has problems with graininess, colors are also not impressive.

The main plus is the second rear camera with depth effect. The implementation of this feature here is not as good as in the Huawei P9, so the simulation of the bokeh effect is not the best.

As in the Huawei P9, the depth effect is achieved by a button that brings up a slider with a range from f / 0.95 (a lot of background blur) to f / 5.6 (no background blur). The slider is also available in the gallery of applications for photos in stereo mode, so the effect can be adjusted after shooting, you can change the focus here.

There is a noticeable difference between stereo photos taken in the camera app or edited in the gallery. Setting the bokeh effect to f / 1.4 in the app gives a slight background blur, but if you set f / 1.4 in the gallery, the blur is more pronounced. The discrepancy between the camera and the application is an unusual result, since they must have the same simulation level.
While the bokeh effect looks just as good as on real DSLRs, it lacks the computation to apply a quality level of depth. It is difficult to get Redmi Pro to correctly determine when an effect should be applied, and when it does not work as it should, the result is terrible. A lot of photos produced blurry foreground objects or poor edge detection, which creates a weird effect. But the focus change works as it should, unless you shoot too close.

The Redmi Pro has a range of photography modes, including a limited and mostly disappointing manual mode; simple panoramic mode; Hand Held Twilight (HHT) mode, which combines multiple low-light photos for better results.

Video for the rear camera is limited to 1080p @ 30fps and 720p @ 120fps in slow motion. The lack of optical stabilization is bad for the smoothness of the video, but the quality is generally good. I would have liked to see a 1080p option at 60fps, or even 4K if Xiaomi was going to counter the flagships.

Autonomous work

The Redmi Pro uses a massive 4050 mAh (15.59 Wh) non-removable lithium-ion battery, one of the largest in a smartphone of its size. MediaTek chips are usually not as energy efficient as Qualcomm and Samsung, so developers have to install large batteries when using them. Despite this, the runtime is quite impressive.

The benchmarks show a couple of interesting things. The Redmi Pro is at the top of the table in most situations. The device provides long-term work in the browser in LTE networks, more than 7 hours.

With excellent battery life, energy efficiency is average. with a slower MediaTek Helio P10 processor, almost the same screen and battery, it gives even longer battery life. In PCMark, for example, the m3 Note runs two and a half hours longer.

Another interesting comparison. This 5.5-inch smartphone has a 3600mAh battery but lasts longer than the Redmi Pro. The excellent energy efficiency of the Exynos 8890 allows Samsung to use a smaller battery while reducing thickness and weight.

Software: improvements needed

If you want to use Redmi Pro outside of China, get ready for a few hours of customization. The main problem is the lack of the Google Play Store and integration with Google services, despite working on, which is a by-product of using the Chinese version of the Xiaomi MIUI 8.0 shell.

The big inconvenience is to download and install Google services Play is possible only through a special tool from the Xiaomi Mi store App Store... This store is mostly in Chinese, so the download and installation process is not easy, although the tool itself is not difficult to use. After a few taps and a long wait for the download, Redmi Pro got the Play Store and Google services.

After google install Play Services is having problems syncing contacts and calendar events in their respective applications. Only after installing third-party contacts and calendar did the Google account sync the data with the right programs Xiaomi, which took about an hour. At times there were problems downloading applications from the Play Store, which disappeared after several reboots.

The list of problems does not end there. While the Gmail app works great, it doesn't give email alerts on Redmi Pro unless you log in and update it. Apps like Twitter and Facebook Messenger also received irregular notifications with a slight delay.

You can be sure that for most Android users, the lack of native Google account support is completely unacceptable. In this case, it is difficult to criticize Xiaomi, since this is the Chinese version of the smartphone; you just need to keep this in mind if you are going to buy the Chinese version.

Enthusiasts can be advised to install on a smartphone clean version Android, which will significantly improve performance if the device gets decent hardware support.

MIUI shell version on Redmi Pro newer than on the Xiaomi Mi Max, which brings a number of useful changes. The notification bar now includes toggles quick settings, instead of separate panel for them. The settings screen received easy-to-access menus for accessing battery and storage information, which were previously buried in additional menus.

The overall MIUI style has received a more modern look, less vibrant colors with a cleaner professional look. Most stock apps have received small updates that bring Google Material Design features, removing iPhone-style elements like the action bar at the bottom of apps.

Xiaomi in MIUI has changed many aspects of the Android system. Updates in MIUI 8.0 improve this skin and Xiaomi will continue to work on it.

The Redmi Pro from the review had at least 18 spam apps, which were deleted as they received notifications. It turned out to be impossible to uninstall the Music and Mi Video applications, which also send annoying notifications (which can be turned off).

Perhaps the reason for the low prices for Xiaomi devices is precisely in such a large amount of garbage on them, which is not placed in vain. This is bad for users, but it is a common practice, including on Windows computers.

MIUI includes many unnecessary features and apps, but there are diamonds worth mentioning too. We can note the Security application with anti-virus functionality, cleaning flash memory and restrictions on traffic consumption and application permissions. The Mi Remote app allows you to control devices through an infrared sensor.

The settings screen includes a reading mode, support for themes, the ability to change the status bar, a Second Space tool that works as a second user account. Added tools for working with battery, headphone control and one-handed mode. The Dual Apps function allows you to use two instances of one application at the same time (for example, if you have two Facebook accounts), but this is unlikely to be very much in demand.

A good mid-range device with a number of compromises

As mentioned, Redmi Pro needs some work outside of China. This is its main disadvantage: you can get great hardware components, but you still need to make them work.

Apart from a number of problems with Google integration and notifications, Xiaomi MIUI includes excellent functionality, extending the capabilities of pure Android. The shell is heavy, you have to put up with unnecessary applications but it is much nicer when localized outside of China.

The hardware of the Redmi Pro has its merits. The design is noteworthy, combining processed metal in the style of the best works of HTC. There is USB connector Type C for charging and data transfer, fast and accurate under-screen fingerprint scanner. The entire smartphone feels solid, its look is not inferior to the best modern flagships.

The 4050 mAh battery provides a long battery life despite not being the best in energy efficiency. Expect a full day of work at medium to high workload levels.

The Redmi Pro does not have the highest performance, but the MediaTek Helio X20 gives you everything you need by modern standards. Not to mention Chrome browser with a driver problem, the X20 is comparable to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor. The inclusion of four additional cores did little, but the speed is faster than the Snapdragon 617 and 410, especially the GPU.

Other hardware aspects are not as good. NAND performance is weak because applications load slowly. Wi-Fi lacks 5 GHz bandwidth, which is bad for a mid-range device. The screen lacks outdoor brightness and color accuracy.

The most interesting thing here is the dual rear camera. The module has 13 megapixels good quality photographing, even if not at the level of flagships. The sensor is not as good for providing depth and the bokeh effect works on a case-by-case basis.

With a starting price of less than $ 250, the main competitor of the Redmi Pro is as well as last year's. Since they do not have problems with the software, they will be preferred by most.

Pros Xiaomi Redmi Pro:

  • aluminium case
  • autonomy
  • Helio X20 processor
  • the price of the model with 64 b memory

Cons Xiaomi Redmi Pro:

  • no software localization
  • the dual camera does little to improve photos
  • slow flash memory

Where Xiaomi Redmi Pro to buy and price

You can buy Xiaomi Redmi Pro at the best price from a trusted seller. The price of Xiaomi Redmi Pro in this store is from $ 200 to $ 235, depending on the model, color and configuration.
