Copying a hard drive in Acronis True Image

One of the functions of this useful program is disk cloning, which, by the way, can be configured very finely depending on the tasks. specific user. To avoid possible errors during the operation, no need to use Acronis true image from under a running OS - it is recommended to run the application using boot disk. Therefore, you will need the Acronis BootCD/DVD distribution kit, which will need to be unpacked to DVD or even to a flash drive, for example, using UltraISO, UNetbootin, etc.

After creation bootable media you can proceed directly to cloning:

1. Boot from the drive created with Acronis BootCD/DVD.
2. In the Acronis main window, open the Tools and Utilities section.

   

3. On the right in the list of utilities, go to "Disk Cloning" and select auto mode carrying out the process. Click next.
4. Left-click to select the source disk with the copied information, click "Next".

   

5. In the next window, select the target drive where you plan to clone the old HDD. The target drive can be either an HDD or a high-speed modern SSD.

   

If copying is made to solid state drive, then the usual situation will be when its capacity is less than the connected HDD. In this case, Acronis True Image will display a message about the need to exclude certain files and folders from the cloning process.

Typically, only the system is transferred to the SSD, so for exact copying, you can select only the main partition of the disk (usually "C"), excluding partitions from the process or individual files with unnecessary information. If the volume of the disk allows cloning old drive completely, you can click "Next", after which the process of sector-by-sector low-level copying of the disk will start.

Note that the application is paid, but it is multifunctional, works very quickly and, as has been shown, has the ability to select data on the hard drive for transfer.

Using the Paragon Hard Disk Manager App

This multifunctional application is only slightly inferior in popularity to the program described above. It is also convenient to use it to clone information on drives:

Like Acronis True Image, this application for reliable sector-by-sector data copying is better to run not from under Windows, but from a boot drive. You can create it in the program itself, using a special rescue media creation wizard:

Note that Paragon Hard Disk Manager is also a paid application, but its functionality is no less than that of Acronis True Image. Both of them work with any disks and file systems, support Windows 8.1 and 10.

Disk cloning using EASEUS Disk Copy

This small application, unlike those discussed earlier, is completely free, but nevertheless allows you to reliably clone sector-by-sector hard drives, their individual sections and migrate the OS to various drives, incl. solid state SSD. The program starts with bootable DVD or flash drives, for which you need to download a free distribution kit for installation on the official website of the utility. After running the executable setup file the wizard will offer a choice:

• install EASEUS Disk Copy on a USB flash drive,
• on the optical drive,
• export the ISO image of the utility to a computer disk.

Recording speed- select the speed with which we will write the disc.

Number of copies- number of desired copies. After creating the first copy, the tray in the recording drive will open, from there we take out the recorded disc and insert a blank one, etc.

Check data after writing to disk- after the end of the recording, the copied disc is compared with the original and, in case of an error, issues a warning. I recommend using this option when copying very important data or when in doubt about the quality of a blank disk.

The copying process depends on the number of drives in your computer.

If there are two drives, then we install the primary disk in the source drive, and a blank disk in the destination drive. If desired, check the "quick copy" option - this can significantly reduce the copying time, but if there are errors on the primary disk, you can get the final product in a defective form instead of the desired copy. As a source drive, you can use an ordinary CD (DVD) -ROM.

If there is only one drive, then install the primary disk in the source drive and click the copy button. Nero will create a copy of the information from it on the hard disk and in the form of an image file, then in the receiving tray you need to replace this disc to clean. After closing the tray, the program starts automatically and writes to the disc already ready information from the hard drive.

Of course, there is nothing complicated in the process of copying a DVD, but there are many nuances ... and not every program can satisfy our, sometimes the most exotic, desires. For example, selectively copy movies from a DVD9 disc to a DVD5 disc, while quickly compressing files to reduce the volume, with or without the original menu, remove subtitles and support for several languages, copy several films from different DVDs to one, remove various copy protections and etc. etc.

Most of these DVD copying tasks are successfully solved by the DVDFab program from Fengtao Software Inc. But first, let me remind you of two things:

1. A DVD may have one or two working sides and one or two working layers on each side. The capacity of the disc depends on their number, which is rounded and indicated by a number after the abbreviation DVD:
   DVD5 - 1-sided 1-layer (4.7 GB),
   DVD9 - 1-sided 2-layer (8.5 GB),
   DVD18 - 2-sided 2-layer (17GB).
2. If the source DVD is heavily compressed, for example, when burning DVD9 to a DVD5 disc, the quality will be like this ... more precisely, there will be no quality at all. So you shouldn't follow the path of pirates who manage to place a dozen full-length films on a DVD5 blank.

After starting the program, go to the settings menu (the button with a checkmark in the upper right corner of the program's working window) and in the section General(General) per line language choose Russian language - Russian (Russia). Of course, if you do not want to bother and leave all the default settings, then the result of DVD ripping will be almost the same as with the most fine tuning all options.

Go! If you just want to make a copy of the movie, then select the menu item Whole disk, insert the original DVD into the tray and press Start. But this is boring and uninteresting, since the main thing is the process, not the result. In this case, we see that the film is recorded on a two-layer DVD disc-9, its duration is 3:46:58, it consists of 58 chapters, has a volume of 7928 MB, supports Russian and English languages ​​and subtitles. If a series is recorded on the disc, for example, then the preview allows you to quickly find the desired series for selective recording, which we will talk about when describing the tool Modification.

Next, choose which copy we want to receive. For example, if you try to compress this movie to a single-layer DVD-5, removing all subtitles and English language audio accompaniment (for this, just uncheck the corresponding items), then we get the quality: 60% (7163MB -> 4300MB). Depending on the quality of the source, the compression result may be quite acceptable, or it may only be suitable for viewing in a car on a 3-inch screen: you can follow the plot, but no more.

The best way- do not be stingy and burn the film on a two-layer DVD-9 disc, and if the toad is completely tortured, then you can copy it onto two ordinary DVD-5 discs, which is about 3-4 times cheaper. To create a selection of several films from different DVDs on one disc, use the tool Merge. To do this, in the source column, we sequentially select the necessary films from DVD or from folders on the computer's hard drive - Fig. 5:

If you have only one DVD drive in your computer, you will first need to copy using DVDFab the necessary fragments to the hard drive by selecting the destination folder on the hard drive in the "Target" column (Fig. 2). By the way, this method is also convenient when you urgently need to return the DVD. Copy the movie to your hard drive, and then you can safely work with the copy in the program DVDFab.

When you have finished selecting the fragments to merge, press the button Further, and the program will list the DVD being created. For example, Fig. 6 shows the merging of two fragments (1 and 5) from a DVD and one from a folder on a hard drive.

Be careful when merging movies so as not to exceed the size of the DVD disc. Changing the quality to squeeze everything and more onto one disc should be within reasonable limits and, in general, does not lead to anything good, and the process of clamping the material usually takes a lot of time.

Tool Copy DVD to Mobile does not have any features. You just need to select a gadget from an extensive list, specify the copy source, destination folder and click Further. The program will convert the material to the desired format and write the file.
