Review and specifications of the smartphone Samsung Galaxy E5. Samsung Galaxy E5 - Specifications Pros and cons of Samsung e 5

The Galaxy E line is mid-range smartphones, both in terms of price and performance, and were introduced in 2015.

One of the main "heroes" of the line was Galaxy E5 - a smartphone with a smooth interface, powerful processor, high-quality screen and attractive design.

Design and ergonomics

Samsung Galaxy The E5 is a typical Samsung product that is hard to miss. Externally, the model has the features of top models Galaxy alpha and Galaxy A5, it looks, if not original, but stylish and interesting. The device looks expensive, it cannot be distinguished even from the most class models of the manufacturer, this effect is achieved due to high-quality glossy plastic. There will be 3 versions of the Samsung Galaxy E5 available - white, dark blue and brown.

The front panel has a camera peephole, a proximity sensor and an earpiece. There is no alert indicator and light sensor here. At the bottom there is a recognizable oval-shaped Home button and 2 touch buttons.

Externally, Samsung Galaxy E5 is very similar to the A5 model, they are almost identical. Slim body, rectangular shape, and slightly rounded corners add ergonomics to the smartphone, it is comfortable to hold in hand. The hardware keys are very hard to press, but this is rather a plus, since there will be no risk of accidental pressing. The body is made entirely of plastic, there are no metal inserts, but the smartphone is assembled perfectly - there are no creaks or backlashes.

Screen

Five-inch display Samsung Galaxy E5 has a Super AMOLED-matrix with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. The density of dots per inch is 294 ppi. The screen has a good oleophobic coating, making it easy to wipe off fingerprints. At the same time, the anti-glare properties of the Samsung Galaxy E5 are average, the screen fades in the sun, but you can work with it. There is no automatic brightness control, so you can only adjust this setting manually. The smartphone has excellent color rendition, it is very comfortable to view photos and videos. Another advantage of the Samsung Galaxy E5's screen is its low power consumption. It is also worth noting the wide viewing angles, the picture practically does not fade if you look at the screen from different angles.

OS and software

Samsung Galaxy E5 is equipped with Android KitKat 4.4.4, the developers decided not to install a more recent version of the OS before the release of the model. The model also works with the proprietary TouchWiz shell. It has long been loved by users due to its intuitiveness, beauty and grace. On main screen you can display all the necessary widgets, change the font size, there is a preinstalled S Health program. The interface pleases with its smoothness, applications respond very quickly. Manufacturers have already announced the possibility of updating the OS to Android 5.0.

Performance

The smartphone is equipped with a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with 4 Cortex-A53 cores and an Adreno 306 graphics accelerator. The built-in memory is not standard, it is 1.5 GB. This means the Samsung Galaxy E5 will be faster and more efficient than budget devices with 1GB of RAM. The built-in memory in the device is 16 GB, for those who are not enough of this amount, a micro-SD slot is offered that supports memory cards up to 64 GB. Also Samsung Galaxy E5 has standard set communications - 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0.

Camera

The Samsung camera has received a lot of attention, and the Galaxy E5 will definitely appeal to photographers and selfie fans. The front camera has a 5-megapixel module, a record for a smartphone in this price category. It supports gesture and voice control, so you don't even have to press the shutter button to take a “selfie”. Pre-installed app for processing images will allow, if desired, to immediately improve and edit the resulting photos.

The main camera is not much better than the front one, it has an 8-megapixel module, as well as an LED flash and autofocus. It allows you to take pictures with a resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. Several modes are available to the user, including panoramic shooting. From interesting features the camera has touch focus and geotags. Video camera at 3264 x 2448 pixels. shoots at 1080p (30fps).

Battery and battery life

The Samsung Galaxy E5 is powered by a 2,400mAh battery. Under average loads, the smartphone will work for about 2 days, and with active use - about a day. In this case, the model shows excellent results when watching video and reading mode. You can listen to music on the Samsung Galaxy E5 for 40 hours without recharging, read - about 10 hours, and watch a video in high definition- 7-8 hours.

The Samsung Galaxy E5 is a slimmed-down version of the Galaxy A5 that has excellent performance for its price. Refined recognizable design, ergonomics, good screen, good performance and good performance autonomous work- all of this makes the Samsung Galaxy E5 Samsung's trump card in the mid-range.

SUMMARY OF THE REVIEW

As the smallest member of the Galaxy E series, the Samsung Galaxy E5 is almost identical to its big brother, the E7. He inherited a polycarbonate case with metal piping. The back has a matte finish for a more secure grip. Despite the fact that the case is made of plastic, experts call it "premium" in terms of build quality and design.

The E5 boasts a 5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, which is similar to the screen in the E7. However, due to its smaller size, the E5 has a higher pixel density of 294ppi, which results in sharper sharpness. Users will be impressed by the excellent contrast: deep blacks and rich Super AMOLED colors.

The performance is also great. The smartphone has a quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1.2 GHz, 1.5 GB random access memory and the graphics accelerator Adreno 306, which provides enough power and memory to get the most out of the device. The battery capacity is 2,400mAh, which may sound small, but the battery life is acceptable. The E 5 is sold with 16GB of internal storage (11GB available). Luckily, it comes with a MicroSim slot, which can also be used as a MicroSD slot for additional storage. Unfortunately, only 3G connection is available.

For the amateur photographer, the phone comes with an 8MP camera (main) and a 5MP front camera. Cameras have a wide range of possibilities.

PROS
  • Excellent color reproduction and display contrast
  • High performance, smooth operation
  • Premium builds and designs
  • Good camera
MINUSES
  • 3G connection only
  • Limited internal memory

Today we will start to get acquainted with a new line of mid-range devices from Samsung. The Galaxy E line was unveiled at CES 2015 and at this moment includes two smartphones: Galaxy E5 and Galaxy E7. The main differences between them are the display diagonals - 5 and 5.5 inches, respectively. Galaxy E is positioned as a budget solution in relation to the A line and differs primarily in a slightly different way. appearance ohm and body materials. Read about this and other differences in today's review.

Design and usability

The appearance of the Samsung Galaxy E5 is unlikely to be a revelation, but nevertheless it does not make it worse. You cannot call it original, and there is no doubt that this is a product from Samsung, even if there were no markings on the case. Here we can see some of the highlights used in the Galaxy S5, certain features of the Galaxy Alpha, and rear panel and completely identical to that of the Galaxy A5.

The device looks expensive, not least thanks to Samsung's love for glossy body parts and does not feel cheap either in appearance or in the hand, but more on ergonomics later. A white version of the smartphone was tested, and brown and dark blue versions will also be available for sale.

The front bezel has a small glitter stripe pattern, which adds some flair to the Galaxy E5. Above the display is a set of earpiece, proximity sensor, and camera lens, which is traditional for many of the company's devices. There is no light sensor and missed event indicator. Under the display, there is a mechanical Home button and a pair of touch keys protruding above the surface of the case.

The set of connectors and the location of the controls on the side faces are familiar from the latest Samsung models. On the right side there is a lock key, on the left there is a paired volume key, the bottom edge has a micro-USB interface connector, a 3.5 mm audio jack and a microphone. The top edge is empty except for the second microphone hole. By the way, the sidewalls are somewhat raised above the glass level, which on the one hand will protect the display when placed on the table with the screen down, and on the other - the first candidate for the loss of presentation.

Looking at the back surface gives the impression that we have the Galaxy A5 and they are indeed identical. On the sides of the camera lens protruding beyond the body, there is a loudspeaker and an LED flash. The chrome finish of the camera is a nice touch to complement the look. The beautiful bronze shimmer in the light adds to the similarity with the A5.

The dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy E5 are 141.6 x 70.2 x 7.3, which is quite acceptable for a 5-inch smartphone. The rather small thickness is emphasized by the smoothed sides, and thanks to not such sharp corners as in the A-series, holding the smartphone is somewhat more pleasant. The only drawback is that the body is rather slippery, at first you should be careful, the smartphone is easy to let go of. Another nuance that you pay attention to is that the keys are quite tight, they have a distinct stroke and click and require a noticeable effort to press, which excludes accidental presses. Unlike the Galaxy A line, the representatives of the E-series are made entirely of plastic, while the case is non-separable, and the build quality is excellent, not a single detail of the smartphone is published unnecessary sounds and excellent resistance to twisting.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy E5 has a 5-inch Super AMOLED matrix with a resolution of 1280x720. The dot density is 294 ppi. The minimum brightness is 9.6 cd / m², and the maximum is 366. At the same time, it is possible to increase the maximum display brightness up to 443 cd / m², which in fact gives a very insignificant advantage on a sunny day, but in general the information remains readable. At the same time, there is no possibility of automatic brightness control. Safety glass got a very good oleophobic coating.

The color rendition is very pleasing for a matrix of this type. White looks truly white, not gray, regardless of established regime the screen, bright colors do not look aggressive and unnatural. We can say that in terms of this indicator, the display is almost close to IPS-matrices and is well suited for viewing photos.

Hardware platform and shell

The smartphone is built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 system-on-chip, which includes four Cortex-A53 cores with support for 64-bit computing. The video core is the Adreno 306. The performance level is generally similar to that of the Galaxy A5, adjusted for 1.5 GB of RAM, however, given that the press sample was tested, the final benchmark results may differ slightly. After downloading, almost 1 GB is available to the user.

The built-in memory in the device is 16 GB, it is possible to expand this volume using microSD memory cards. However, in this case, you will have to sacrifice the possibility of installing a second SIM-card. The already familiar scheme is used, when the first slot supports the installation of Nano-SIM, and the second either a memory card or the second Nano-SIM.

The smartphone works under Android KitKat 4.4.4. I was frankly pleased and even surprised by the smoothness of the interface of the proprietary TouchWiz shell. If we abstract from the analysis of benchmark results, then the device will appeal to lovers of smooth interfaces, the launch of programs is carried out instantly, and the only bottleneck can become 1.5 GB of RAM in especially heavy applications. There are also no complaints about the stability of the work.

The gaming performance is at a sufficient level, but no more. The synthetic test of “omnivorousness” of the built-in player showed a satisfactory level of support for well-known codecs. The sound in the headphones is of high quality and loud, this will be enough for the majority.

Remarks to Wi-Fi operation and Bluetooth did not appear in the test sample. But the quality of communication left much to be desired, despite the maximum signal level, the interlocutors complained about interference and speech distortions, where other devices worked flawlessly. Perhaps this point will be further refined. The volume and quality of both speakers is high. The power of the vibration motor will also be enough to not miss a call.

The Galaxy E5 is equipped with a 2400 mAh non-removable battery. Under medium-to-moderate load, mail sync disabled and social networks and a minimum of games, the smartphone will live for about two days. However, with more active use - 30 minutes of calls, 15 minutes of games and several hours of music, the smartphone allows you to count on a full day. The situation is not bad with the reading mode and watching videos.

Cameras

Galaxy E5 is equipped with two cameras, the main one takes pictures with a maximum resolution of 8 MP, and the front one - 5. Both modules allow you to record FullHD-video. The quality of the pictures taken with both cameras is quite average, good pictures are obtained only in sunny weather, although, in fairness, it is worth noting that satisfactory pictures can be obtained even in the absence of natural light. For lovers of “selfie”, the front camera can be described as entry level... The camera interface is almost completely similar to that in.

Outcomes

On the one hand, users get a somewhat simplified version of the Galaxy A5, and on the other, the E5 is a pretty good trump card for Samsung at the lower price bracket of the middle segment. Of course, there were some compromises, such as, for example, the absence of a light sensor or the use of a second SIM-card or memory card.

For those familiar with Samsung products, the Galaxy E5's design can be summed up in one phrase: plastic copy of Galaxy A5. But seriously, if you do not take it in hand, it will be difficult to distinguish smartphones. E5 repeats everything: matte-smooth back cover, non-separable body, chrome ends and familiar design of the bezel. Only all this is made of plastic, not metal. Is that the E5 has more rounded corners... The similarity should be, but not complete, right?

Considering the Samsung Galaxy E5 apart from the A5, nothing beyond the usual can be said about it. It's still the same typical Samsung, especially if you look only at the front panel. The physical Home button, the speaker covered by the same mesh - we have seen all this many times. Except that the frame around the screen has become thicker.

At the back, the smartphone has changed more. The lid is made more sloping, although this is completely invisible if you have a white color version. By the way, the color can also be black or brown. The cover on the lid is unusual, but nothing special. It has an interesting greenish tint and a velvety surface, although it doesn't match the “soft-touch” characteristic - it's too tough for that. But the most important thing is that it is not easily soiled.

The side ends of the Samsung Galaxy E5 stand out. They seem to be wearing a thick chrome one-piece frame. Yes, plastic, but its shape repeats the sensational in August 2014 Galaxy years Alpha. In particular, this concerns the lower sidewall, where a noticeable "step" is made.

The phone is assembled perfectly. Although it should not be otherwise - firstly, this is Samsung, and secondly, it is not collapsible. The thickness of the smartphone is quite small - 7.3 mm, which is quite a bit for an average-priced product. True, the Galaxy A5 is even thinner at 6.7 mm. Thinner and lighter - 123 grams versus 140 grams for the Galaxy E5. But in any case, do not forget that the devices are positioned differently, although they are similar in many ways.

The Galaxy E5 itself is nothing like that. He has a typical "Samsung" appearance, high-quality assembly, thin body, relatively light weight. The rest will be covered in the next section.

Connectors and controls

Despite the fact that the appearance of the Samsung Galaxy E5 and, in general, the entire line of Samsung smartphones in 2015, has changed little, the transition to a non-separable body led to the addition of a couple of elements on the side ends. But let's first go through the front and backs smartphone.

Above the screen, there is a usual set: a speaker covered with a metal mesh, light and proximity sensors, a front camera lens.

The bottom is also home to traditional Samsung elements: two touch buttons for calling the task manager and Back, as well as a physical Home button. The "Home" does not have a built-in fingerprint scanner, so in addition to its main function, it can only wake up the smartphone from standby mode.

The touch buttons are visible only when the backlight is on. The backlight is not very bright, but it is enough.

At the back of the Galaxy E5, at the top, is the rear camera lens in the center. To the left of it is the LED flash and to the right is the external speaker. We have a similar configuration of elements on the back cover.

The volume control was placed on the left - unchanged here.

Almost everything "new" went to the right side. The power button is in its traditional place, so you don't have to change your habits. It also contains compartments for SIM-cards and microSD cards. But we will tell you more about this below.

The upper side is completely empty, except for the second microphone for noise cancellation.

The audio connector has moved to the bottom edge. Here it is adjacent to the microUSB connector and a spoken microphone. It's nice to note that Samsung has also picked up the fashion for a 3.5 mm minijack from the bottom - it's much more convenient to connect headphones here. More precisely, it is more convenient to lower the receiver, with headphones connected from below, into a pocket or bag.

And now about installing the cards. Holders for them are removed using a complete ejector or, at worst, a paper clip.

Plastic holders. They are sturdy, but still easier to overdo with them than if you had a metal smartphone from the Galaxy A series. It should also be borne in mind that only nanoSIM cards are supported. And, to top it off, a new Samsung feature - a slot for a memory card and a SIM-card is combined into one. That is, you can install one of the cards in the holder. So get ready to choose: either you have a dual-SIM smartphone or a lot of memory. If you have any difficulties with installing a memory card or SIM card in the Samsung Galaxy E5, our short video will help you solve the problem:

In fact, the inability to use three cards at once can hardly be called a drawback. Simply because about 10-12% of those who bought dualSIM smartphones use both cards all the time. So we will not write down such an organization of slots as a disadvantage.

Larger, the Galaxy E5 offers exactly the same user experience as many Samsung smartphones before it. Even a little better - the 3.5 mm minijack on the bottom is a blessing and it's hard to argue with that. Otherwise, nothing has changed. Communication and memory cards will only be installed once, so this does not count. The only pity is that you cannot replace the battery on your own - you will have to contact the service center.

Galaxy E5 case

Samsung smartphones occupy a leading position in sales, and therefore there are many accessories available for them. So finding a cover for the Galaxy E5 was no problem.

The starting price for the Galaxy E5 case is just 500 rubles. For this money, you can get a simple translucent silicone cover with a matte surface.

Silicone Case best quality will cost twice as much. But it is very thin.

A flip case for the Galaxy E5 is also available. If you like this one, then its price is 1,500 rubles.

A cover-case for Galaxy E5 with a window will cost a little more - already 2 thousand rubles.

And there is a quality leather case for the Galaxy E5. For 3 thousand rubles.

We have listed far from full list available covers for the described Samsung smartphone... But the price level is exactly the same, as are the available types of covers.

Screen

Gone are the days when Super AMOLED screens were only used in flagships from Samsung. Today, even tablets with these are widely available (yes, that's us), as well as smartphones from the middle segment, to which the Galaxy E5 belongs. Of course, it does not have the most progressive AMOLED matrix from Samsung. But, nevertheless, this display is excellent, practically not causing any complaints.

In terms of resolution, the screen of the Samsung Galaxy E5 pulls the maximum for the "average" characteristic. The 5-inch diagonal provides a resolution of 1280x720 pixels, which gives a resulting dot density of 294 ppi. The picture does not look grainy, but 320-350 ppi is preferable for better perception. On the other hand, the next step in terms of resolution is Full HD or 1920x1080, which is a completely different level. Even the more expensive Galaxy A5 lacks this - it offers similar display options: 5 ", 1280x720 and Super AMOLED.

The maximum brightness was measured at 306.2 cd / m2, which is not a record at all. This value fits into the lower border of the middle range in terms of brightness - most often we measure it at the level of 300-350 cd / m2. At the same time, the screen behaves confidently in the sun, and also do not forget about the deep black color inherent in OLED technology. It is useless to measure contrast for it - it is formally equal to infinity.

The color gamut is, as always, very wide. It easily overlaps the sRGB color space and approaches Adobe RGB. This is a typical picture for AMOLED matrices.

The color temperature was also not much higher than the optimal value of 6500K - it was measured by us at 7500K. More often in smartphones, it runs somewhere in the 7800-8500K range. In other words, the white balance of the Galaxy E5 display is less disturbed towards the "cold" picture than most of its counterparts.

The gamma curve, on the other hand, is slightly above the 2.2 reference curve. Highlights and mid-brightness areas of the image are displayed brighter than they should be. The deviation is not very serious, but noticeable.

Of course, 10 simultaneous touches Galaxy screen E5 recognizes. It is somehow strange to expect otherwise.

The screen settings section, as always, is supplemented with the "Screen mode" item, where you can select the "Adaptive display", "AMOLED movie" modes. "Photo AMOLED" and "Main". If anyone is not in the know, this allows you to change the color gamut of the display if it seems too saturated to you. You can achieve softer shades inherent in IPS matrices. This is another advantage available to AMOLED technology.

For a mid-priced smartphone, our Galaxy E5 has a decent screen. Yes, it does not have a record brightness and resolution, but it has wide viewing angles, there is a choice of operating modes, and excellent color reproduction. By the way, the phone in question is not devoid of an extreme power saving mode, when not only many system services are turned off, but everything is still black and white. If someone is not in the know, the picture in grayscale allows you to save energy solely thanks to the features of the AMOLED matrix.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy E5 is equipped with cameras with a resolution of 8 and 5 megapixels. Yes, Samsung has already started to move towards "selfiphones" too. Nevertheless, the number of megapixels does not affect their quality in any way. But anyway from this point of view Galaxy camera The E5 shoots at the same average level.

The capabilities of the Samsung camera app have been covered many times in our reviews. In short, it is quite conveniently organized. On the left panel, you can change the camera (front or rear), turn on the flash, call the settings. On the right, there are buttons to start shooting a video and for a photo. Here you can also call the mode change and gallery. Please note that the maximum resolution of 8 MP is achieved only when shooting with an aspect ratio of 4: 3.

Shooting modes are well known from many smartphones and Samsung tablets... They include self-portrait, panorama, night shooting, you can create GIF animations and so on.

The shooting quality is actually decent. Not the very thing that can be found, however, the frames are moderately clear, and even in poor lighting conditions. White balance with more is determined correctly.

Video is captured in Full HD resolution. So far Samsung has left more only for flagships.

The video quality is also good. The picture looks quite natural, there is no blurring.

The front camera already has a decent 5 MP resolution, which, however, is also achieved with a 4: 3 aspect ratio.

The front camera shoots worse than the rear one, which is natural. But overall, it's also good. It will definitely be enough for a selfie. And so the pictures lack clarity - they turn out to be somewhat blurry, and sometimes overexposed. But the white balance is almost intact.

The front camera shoots video with the same resolution as the rear one - Full HD.

And, of course, she removes it worse. Let the shooting resolution be high, but the picture is kind of blurry.

Basically, we liked the Galaxy E5's camera. For a smartphone with such a cost, it is very even.

The Galaxy E lineup for March 2015 consists of two products: the E5 and E7. We will now tell you about the first, while the second has a 5.5-inch screen with the same resolution, has 2 GB of RAM and a 13 MP camera. The hardware platform for smartphones is the same. It is possible that the Galaxy E3 with a smaller display will be launched in the future.

As a result, Samsung Galaxy E5 looks like a solid "middling". He has a modern powerful processor, decent amount of memory, you can install a microSD card, good camera and the screen. What else is needed for complete happiness? To make it all work well! We will dwell on this further.

Performance testing

Comparing the performance of the Galaxy E5 and Galaxy S5 mini is interesting from the point of view of how new processor Qualcomm is better or worse than its predecessor. After all, they have the same screen resolution, so this will not affect the final result.

Old system-wide benchmarks show a clear advantage for the Galaxy E5. However, not very significant - the difference is partially eaten away by the lower processor frequency. Please note that parity can be observed in the graphics tests. They have the same video card.

The Galaxy E5 also has a slight superiority in the SunSpider browser test.

Formally, the Galaxy S5 mini became the winner in simple three-dimensional tests Nenamark2 and RD 3D. Nevertheless, in both cases, the result of the Samsung Galaxy E5 does not exceed 55 FPS. This leads us to believe that the drivers of this smartphone somehow have a limitation on the maximum FPS level of 55 frames, and not 60, as is usually the case.

But a more complex benchmark takes the Galaxy S5 mini forward. Not very important, but, apparently, a higher-frequency processor has recouped here.

If you suddenly do not like this option, then you can turn off the ribbon and return to the classic option, when you have several desktops. By the way, it is possible to set the effect of their paging.

In our numerous reviews of Samsung technology, we somehow never focused on shell themes. They turned out to be well designed - not only the background changes, but also each one has its own beautiful icons.

As always, the Samsung smartphone is equipped with a full set of proprietary software. Moreover, what is important, the device is not overloaded with applications that will not be used by everyone.

After they began to complain that out of 16 GB, only about 8-9 were available to them, Samsung reconsidered the approach to software filling of its mobile devices... On the second desktop from the top, there is a Galaxy Essentials shortcut widget, which, when pressed, launches special section store Galaxy apps Apps. If anyone does not know, here you can download everything that was previously preinstalled out of the box. Thus, Samsung has killed two birds with one stone: there is now more free space on the smartphone and the set of proprietary programs is still easily accessible.

Describe in detail Samsung apps does not make much sense - they are well known to many. And if you suddenly do not belong to "many", then take my word for it - all these programs for the most part copy the standard ones from Android, although in some moments they are made more convenient. Let's go over some of them. For example, there is an application for working with FM radio - if someone does not know, then the top ones Samsung models deprived of this module at all.

The note-taking app is relatively unpretentious. Although it does allow for some text formatting, insert pictures, and save notes to the cloud in account Samsung.

The calculator is the same as in other smartphones of the company. It was slightly redrawn, but the functionality remains the same. And what can you do supernatural there?

And a few words about other features of the TouchWIZ shell. For example, the task manager - it is made in the style of Android 5.0. All applications are presented in the form of tabs. Recall that this option was first proposed in the Galaxy Note 4.

The design of the settings section also dates back to the Galaxy Note 4. Recall that in the Galaxy S5 Samsung radically revised it, presenting all the sections in the form of a huge list of icons, and then returned to the classic version. This is what we see on the Galaxy E5. Moreover, at the beginning of the list there is a subsection "Quick parameters", where you can add the most frequently used settings.

Standard applications are configured from settings. Moreover, there was a hint of disabling the TouchWIZ shell, although so far it will not be possible to return to "pure" Android - just switch to the simple mode of the proprietary interface. And here you can also choose an application for working with SMS messages: Hangouts from Google or standard from Samsung.

The notification panel is highly customizable. Also, the "Multiple Windows" function has not gone anywhere, which allows you to launch two applications at once on the screen.

Galaxy E5 is not devoid of the NFC module, which works to the fullest, including for synchronization between devices. There is also special treatment blocking, within which you can turn off all calls and notifications in certain time days. For example, so as not to interfere during sleep.

In general, TouchWIZ remains a user-friendly interface that does not differ much in its principles from the original Android. In the Galaxy S6, the differences between them are even smaller, but even if the Galaxy E5 gets the firmware with Android 5, the new shell, unfortunately, will not get it.

By the way, it should be added that despite the support for 64-bit computing of the processor of the Galaxy E5 smartphone, it works in 32-bit mode. Android 4.4 and earlier, if someone is not in the know, is 32-bit and cannot fully use the capabilities of ARMv8 instructions. Android 5.0, in turn, works fine in both 32- and 64-bit modes. However, the choice of the system version depends entirely on the manufacturer. And it's not at all a fact that Samsung, even updating the Galaxy E5 to modern Android, will provide it with a 64-bit build. Rather, quite the opposite - if the Galaxy Note 4 was left to work in 32-bit mode, then why suddenly such a concession to "some" E5?

Output

We liked the Samsung Galaxy E5. This mid-range smartphone is well-balanced. Its interface does not slow down, games start all and work quickly, without reducing the quality of graphics. The software behaves stably. At the same time, the phone has a decent autonomy - Samsung, as always, optimizes power consumption well. And the battery capacity of 2400 mAh with a body thickness of 7.3 mm is a very good indicator.

Some people will not like the plastic case, but after all, Samsung makes all its smartphones plastic. The only exceptions are a few models from late 2014 and early 2015. In the end, no one forbids buying the Galaxy A5 - in many respects it repeats the E5, but is made in a metal case, has slightly smaller dimensions and thickness. And it costs much more.

Somewhat embarrassing is the change in policy of Samsung, which now produces many of its smartphones in an unseparable case. This applies to the Galaxy E5 in full measure - replace the battery without help service center will be problematic. But the build quality is excellent as always. But the design remains generally the same, although there are some noticeable differences in terms of the side ends and back cover are available.

What else can you add? The Galaxy E5 has a good camera, a good Super AMOLED screen, ergonomics has been improved by moving the audio jack to the bottom end, and the amount of internal memory is 16 GB. One question remains: how much does the Galaxy E5 cost?

Galaxy E5 price

It is possible to buy the Galaxy E5 for 20 thousand rubles. The cost is quite democratic, although it cannot be called low. On the other hand, let's not forget that this is Samsung - the largest A-brand. And we would not call it overpriced, given that the smartphone has not so many disadvantages, but there are much more advantages. And what about the competitors?

Galaxy S5 mini is not a competitor, but an analogue. At a price of 17 thousand rubles, it still looks interesting. If someone has not read carefully our Galaxy overview E5, we note almost identical performance of both smartphones. At the same time, the S5 mini is cheaper, has a waterproof case and a fingerprint scanner. In addition, it will receive firmware with Android 5. But do not forget that the screen size of the E5 is larger and it has better autonomy. On the other hand, the Galaxy S5 mini allows you to change the battery yourself.

Huawei Ascend P7 can be bought somewhere for 19-20 thousand. Even though it was released in the spring of 2014, at this price it looks like a great alternative to the Galaxy E5. See for yourself: 5-inch Full HD screen, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory, 13 MP camera, weight 124 grams (140 grams for the E5), thickness of only 6.5 mm with a 2500 mAh battery! The processor is a 4-core HiSilicon Kirin 910T. In general, the device is interesting, especially if you don't have a penchant for this or that brand.

ASUS PadFone S is also not among the newest. Announced in the summer of 2014, today it costs 18-19 thousand. But the smartphone looks extremely interesting. First of all, the fact that an 8.9-inch docking tablet can be purchased for it. And the device itself has excellent performance: Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 5-inch Full HD screen. True, the battery of only 2300 mAh with such a powerful platform is embarrassing, as well as the weight of 150 grams and the thickness of almost 10 mm.

The sensational Lenovo S90 costs about 22 thousand. Let us remind you that he "made a sensation" by the similarity of his own. Otherwise, the characteristics of this smartphone are typical: thin metal case, 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1280x720, weight 129 grams. The processor is the same as in the Galaxy E5 - Snapdragon 410. The battery has a capacity of 2300 mAh. As much as 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of flash memory. But it cannot be expanded.

Pros:

  • quality materials and assembly;
  • good SuperAMOLED screen;
  • slim body;
  • 16 GB of internal memory;
  • convenient location of the audio jack;
  • decent camera;
  • convenient TouchWIZ shell with a set of useful software;
  • good autonomy.

Minuses:

  • non-separable body.

Samsung Galaxy E5- the standard of the middle class of modern lineup by Samsung. This model has gained popularity among users for several reasons: the first is a stylish design and monolithic construction, the second is a fairly productive hardware part, and the third is an attractive price, considering the first two reasons.

Design

By creating Galaxy line E and Galaxy smartphone E5 in particular, the Koreans took an unusual step - they decided to make a mid-range smartphone that would look not only attractive, but also more expensive.

The plastic case is very similar to the metal one and it is visually difficult to say otherwise. At the same time, the body is one-piece, which allows you to feel the solidity and integrity of the structure - no backlash and squeaks.

The case is a little slippery, but the phone feels like a glove in the hand. Galaxy E5 dimensions are 141.6 x 70.2 x 7.3 with a weight of 140 grams - the optimal dimensions.

Display

You will be more than satisfied with the quality of the 5-inch display, because this is a Super AMOLED display and if earlier this type of matrix was used in expensive models of the company, now it is middle class boasts picture quality, its richness and saturation, as well as maximum viewing angles.

The screen resolution is HD (1280 by 720 pixels) and the dot density is 294ppi - optimal parameters for a display of this size.

Specifications

Since the smartphone is one of the novelties of 2015, the hardware part, though not top-end, is the newest in its class. The Galaxy E5 uses a 4-core Snapdragon 410 chipset with an operating frequency of 1.2 GHz and an Adreno 306 video chip, which is complemented by 1.5 GB of RAM.

Such hardware provides sufficient performance, both in applications and games, the interface works smoothly and the smartphone quickly responds to your actions. Volume internal memory is 16 GB and if this seems insufficient to you, then you can always transfer content to a microSD memory card (flash drives up to 64 GB are supported).

The battery in the Galaxy E5 cannot be called the largest - 2500 mAh, which is slightly less than that of the older model of the Galaxy E7 series, but the phone shows excellent autonomy.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy E5 has an 8-megapixel sensor - a well-known camera that allows us to take good quality pictures.

If you love selfies, then you'll love the Galaxy E5 as it uses a 5 Megapixel front camera. Portrait photos will delight high quality and a maximum of details.

Software

Out of the box, the device runs on Android v4.4.4 (KitKat) and it is difficult to say whether there will be an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop. But here you can download:

For owners:

Your mark:

Since the gadget is plastic, it hardly slips in the hand. It is, of course, not sticky to the hands pleasant SoftTouch, but also not elusive metal or Gorilla glass.

In line with trends, the case cover is not removable. The smartphone is equipped with two slots for nanoSIM. The second can also be used for a microSD card. Considering the pictures below, pay attention to the thickness of the apparatus. Less than 8 millimeters is almost an industry standard.

Our sample is well assembled and easy to use. There is nothing more to say about the case. A typical Samsung smartphone with a typical arrangement of controls, keys that are pleasant to go and size, and an ordinary design that does not cause any “wow” or dislike.

Is the screen good?

For the money that is asked for a smartphone, the screen could be cheaper. First, a Super AMOLED matrix is used. Secondly, the resolution of the 5-inch screen is 720x1280 pixels, that is, HD. Pixel density is approaching 300 ppi (294 ppi for the meticulous). This is an excellent indicator. The brightness is typical for Super AMOLED - not the highest, but sufficient. 359.578 cd / m2. There is no automatic brightness control of the backlight in this model. A typical situation for an inexpensive A-brand device. LG has not even installed a sensor in its mini-flagship. Although Samsung saved money on it, they got out of the situation gracefully - they added an "outdoor" screen mode to the notification panel. It automatically boosts the brightness to a fantastic 472.576 cd / m2. This completely solves the problem of bright sun and poor performance of the sensor under it, but does not eliminate the need to manually tweak something when changing lighting conditions. Another positive nuance - at the minimum brightness value, the smartphone is comfortable to use, the screen goes blank rapidly. If you go outside at night and reduce the brightness to a minimum, the screen does not blind your eyes and there are no problems with their adaptation to weak night lights.

Color gamut is typically wide for Super matrices AMOLED approaches the Adobe RGB space. The color mode is chilly and the calibration isn't perfect. But only very color-conscious users will notice.

Gloves are not supported. Judging by the state of the screen, there is an oleophobic coating.

What's with his camera?

If the model was presented a year ago and cost about 2,500 hryvnia, then about its 8-megapixel camera one could say: "It's okay, guys, don't worry, it's an inexpensive smartphone, it can't have a high-quality camera." Today the price of the model looks not so modest in national currency. And since we here with you are used to counting who is in hryvnia, who is in rubles, who is in Kennian shillings, I don’t dare say that. Samsung has been famous for its cameras since the flagship Galaxy S3, which, like this model, also had an 8-megapixel camera. But in the Galaxy E5, it is different - weak. On a sunny day, it brightens areas of the photo, on a cloudy day it blurs everything, in macro photography it is weak, in large areas it lathers. But if the conditions are favorable, then he makes quite decent personnel. In general, it behaves neither better nor worse than any other camera in inexpensive smartphone... It doesn't shoot very quickly, especially in HDR mode. Any smartphone for this money will show a similar result.

The same pictures are in original resolution.

What's with the battery?

The Galaxy E5 has a 2400 mAh battery. It's 100 mAh more than in the Galaxy A5 and Lenovo S90 Sisley, which we have already reached and will soon write to you about it. The S90 Sisley is one of the potential competitors, though more of the A5 than the E5. I have not been able to use the Galaxy E5 with wireless accessories, but without them, I charged it on average once a day and a half. I did not actively use my smartphone, but often outdoors with the enhanced backlight mode turned on, I listened to music for 2-4 hours a day, I used GPS. On the one hand, it is a good result for your money. On the other hand, it is expected that from year to year the autonomy of smartphones is getting a little better. The PCMark autonomy test on a smartphone crashed for some reason.

And what about performance?

Like the Lenovo Vibe Z2 and S90 Sisley, the Galaxy is powered by the Snapdragon 410 processor. It is a 64-bit processor with four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.2 GHz. Actually, these three are clearly not the only owners of Snapdragon 410. I just didn't have others in my hands yet. It will be clearly a popular processor model, and we will see it again and again. Unlike Lenovo smartphones The Galaxy E5 comes with 1.5GB of RAM (the Vibe Z2 has 2GB, the S90 Sisley comes in 1GB and 2GB versions), which hints at a different performance. On the eye, the smartphone interface really turns a little slower than in the older Lenovo model, but the difference in RAM does not affect other aspects of its activity. Fast games with beautiful graphics are running, films of several gigabytes - everything works. And for the current generation of smartphones for $ 300, this is already the norm.

What are the alternatives?

The closest competitor Samsung Galaxy E5 in our market should be Honor 4.x, which is expected in Ukraine for about the same money. However, while the smartphone is limping to Ukraine, the rate can again jump sharply, followed by the recommended retail price. Honor 4.x is more interesting than 2 GB of RAM and, in my opinion, the plastic on the back of the case. This smartphone also has Huawei's own 64-bit processor. The company says that in tests of autonomy it significantly surpasses the Snapdragon 410. But the model will be distributed only via the Internet. This means that she has a chance to reach only 14% of Ukrainian wallets. And those who are willing to pay for functionality, not brand. And those who already know that Honor is an offshoot of Huawei.

In the Samsung lineup, the Galaxy E5 has something in common with the metal Galaxy A5 and is not much cheaper than it. The Galaxy A5, in addition to the noble body, also beckons with its 2 GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel main camera, which, in theory, should be great for bypassing the camera in the Galaxy E5. A more budget-friendly alternative to the model in the Samsung lineup is the Galaxy Grand prime- the smartphone has a screen resolution of 960x540 pixels. At five inches, this is not the most comfortable solution, but it costs a couple of thousand hryvnia less.

Interesting alternatives to the Galaxy E5 include ASUS ZenFone 5. The smartphone has the same screen, only IPS, the processor is installed from Intel, the camera is the same, there are versions with 1 and 2 GB of RAM, but the built-in one is half as much. The case design of both models lies somewhere close. But ZenFone 5 today costs a good thousand or one and a half less.

Lenovo, the most popular distributor of smartphones in Ukraine today, has only Lenovo S90 Sisley among the related models. The characteristics are very similar, but placed in the body of the iPhone. And his camera is more modern.

In the dry residue

The middle and junior segment of smartphones are those segments in which the joy of the achievements of new generations over the past year and a half is somehow brighter than the joy of the new capabilities of the flagships. This is because in top-end models all these technical improvements are simply not noticed, and there is no breakthrough in the software. 64-bit processors, including the Snapdragon 410, brought the mid-range segment of smartphones a performance that suits most and a decent battery life. It looks like it will be popular in the $ 200-300 smartphone segment. Therefore, from all of them, including the hero of this review, we should expect pleasant and long-term work. Should you prefer the Samsung Galaxy E5 to your competitors? You decide. If the camera is not a matter of principle and you are not chasing metal, but prefer well-known manufacturers, then yes. If it is important to save money without sacrificing performance, then you can take a simpler look at manufacturers' devices. There should be more of them soon. Do you need a metal case for reasonable money, and for the smartphone to work decently? This is for the Galaxy A5 or Lenovo S90 Sisley models.

  • high performance;
  • good battery life;
  • high maximum screen brightness.

3 reasons not to buy a Samsung Galaxy E5:

  • the camera is weak;
  • there is no automatic adjustment of the brightness of the screen backlight;
