Samsung galaxy s3 data. Samsung Galaxy S3 review and benchmarks

Long known Samsung launched its new development on a voyage around the world, which became the third in the Galaxy S line. This stylish, attractive gadget instantly filled the world market with its capabilities. It's no secret that today mobile phones can be said to be one of the important elements of the life of modern society. It is hardly possible to imagine a person who does not have his own mobile phone... However, if the user got into the hands of Samsung Galaxy S3, it will hardly be so easy to part with it.
Why this particular model, you ask. It's no secret that Samsung has been fighting for dominance in the advanced technology market for many years. It seems to me that the proof of this is their new devices, which every day more and more begin to penetrate the gadget market, where their developments take pride of place.
Do not forget that the top companies of modern society fight with each other every day, some borrow the ideas of others, while the latter simply copy. However, some manage to combine all the indicators into one single one and at the same time get an almost perfect device, but we all know that the race for technology does not allow new products to hold out for a long time on the sales market, because after the release of one device, literally following it to conquer the vastness, from the "hangar" they release a new miracle of creation, in connection with which it turns out that the companies are simply forced to fight with each other.
It should be noted that the Samsung Galaxy S3 has become something similar, which nevertheless managed to reach the very top, where respect and popularity awaited it. The gadget got under its control all the new technologies and features that only make the work of a person easier: powerful, convenient, stylish. We dedicated this review to him - after all, the novelty from Samsung stood among those who were expected the most - this is the third model in the Galaxy S family. We can talk a lot about it, but let's move on to the device itself and examine its capabilities and technical characteristics in more detail. ...

Samsung's flagship - Galaxy S3

Actually, let's start from the very beginning. The developers were not even too lazy to pack their miracle in a rather attractive box that does not take up much space.

We open it and here it is - a device that can enchant many. Let's open it, and there: a communicator, a battery, a Micro-USB-USB cable, a wall charger with a USB-compatible connector, a wired stereo headset with a set of spare attachments, documentation. There is also another highlight - if you turn the box over, you can see all the necessary information about the Galaxy S3 there. In other words, the developers have done everything to ensure that the user gets everything he needs to work.

Let's move on to the specifications of the device:

  • Samsung Exynos 4412 processor (quad-core ARM Cortex A9, 1.4 GHz) with ARM Mali-400 MP4 video core
  • Operating room Android system 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich)

Elegant and personalized Samsung Galaxy S3

Samsung's new flagship is something new when compared to its siblings. If previous versions, we can say that they took the features of the well-known iPhone, then the third generation in the Galaxy S line has become a kind of individual personality, which hardly anyone can find fault with, he has become himself.

The appearance is very attractive, as soon as you pick up the device and forget about all the problems, you just want to turn it on. The slightly curved body only gives it an outward beauty, but let's not dwell on the exterior of the device. Of course, this is a rather important factor for some users and the convenience of using the gadget depends on it, but Samsung is unlikely to have made any strong emphasis on this, everything is stored inside, not outside.

The screen of the device occupies almost the entire front part of the device, where you can find only three buttons: to the left of the central key there is a button to call the program menu, to the right - to return to the previous screen. It seemed to me very convenient to work with one hand. But it is worth noting that people with short fingers are unlikely to be able to freely press their thumb across the entire screen area, but I do not think that this will be such a big problem for users. It should be noted that the third generation in the Galaxy S line has most likely become a full-fledged communicator, which should be operated not with one, but with two hands, which makes it much easier to work with the device.

There is also no superfluous on the sides: an on / off button and a volume control.

The top of the Samsung Galaxy S 3 houses a headphone jack and an additional microphone. The main microphone and Micro-USB-compatible connector are located at the bottom of the case.

Also, the device is equipped with two cameras. Sensors are located next to the additional camera. To the left of it is now an information LED, which can be seen as a huge step forward for the company in terms of ergonomics.

Our gadget received a very attractive color - metallic blue, but there is one small drawback, the communicator should purchase a cover, because rear panel the device quickly gets invisible at first glance scratches. But do not miss one moment that the assembly of the device is very professional, there are no protruding and loose parts, the assembly was taken very seriously.

We open the back cover of the device and see a very interesting picture, the battery is located there, however, the place for the microSIM card and memory card are no longer under it, which greatly simplifies their replacement, now there is no need to remove the battery.

After gaining access to the battery compartment, it becomes possible to replace the memory card without disconnecting the battery. By the way, if you look at the location of the battery and the microSIM card, then the question arises: what, in fact, caused the need to use a SIM card slot of this particular format? There is so much space that a SIM-card of a regular size would fit freely. However, in my opinion, microSIM is not convenient enough, it is not clear why the developers came to such a decision in order to install it in their device, because there is enough space. What is most interesting is that it is not so easy to get the SIM, it feels like, having thrust it in once, it is simply impossible to pull it back out of there.

If we summarize a little on the appearance of the Galaxy S 3, then we can say that the new product has become quite convenient and received new forms that should interest many users. Of course, there are downsides, but you shouldn't dwell on these little things. In general, everything is fine.

Samsung Galaxy S3 software filling

So, let's move on to the main question - what is fraught with new flagship sky Samsung phone Galaxy S3? Under its control, the device received the latest version of Android OS version 4.0.4. Also, do not overlook another important fact that the company has installed the TouchWiz shell on its offspring.

The screen is unlocked by moving your finger. Immediately, we have access to: ChatON, Camera, Samsung Apps, Play Store, phone, contacts, messages, browser. Also, do not forget that the developers have added quite interesting "goodies" to the security methods for locking the screen - a face and a voice.

As for the shell of the main screen itself, there were no special changes, and therefore, you can not stop at this place and not go into details (the weather widget has been combined with the clock, the denser placement of icons allowed placing another icon in the list of main applications). Also striking are the applications that received the prefix S: S Memo, S Planner, S Suggest, S Voice. As for the latter, do not overlook it. We all know the well-known electronic assistant Siri, which has become a kind of basis for building a new type of user interaction with a computer, and so, Samsung responded to this application released its own - S Voice. Highly convenient function for a communicator, the voice is recognized very well, but do not forget that it is especially convenient for people who know English. It should also be noted that with the help of this program you can perform literally any actions and your actions are not limited to just calling a subscriber or, for example, dialing a message.

Note that S Voice tries to be useful to the user and copies much of Siri's functionality. It won't be surprising if both applications use the same knowledge base. However, both systems still need to be refined. Today, in my opinion, they are not perfect.

However, you shouldn't dwell on one program, because Samsung developers have invested great efforts in creating such a flagship model and managed to stuff the device with a huge number of different applications. Some are responsible for messaging (Chat ON), others allow you to remotely connect to the content of media servers via an Internet connection (various games, books, music, programs and much more).

All applications work quite quickly, there is even an opportunity to turn on your imagination and customize the phone to your personal character, you can even install an application with which you can take measurements of premises and take notes there, install a flashlight and much more. In a word - the developers have given tremendous opportunities to their users, all that remains is to learn how to use it wisely.
Don't miss another moment - the device has received another curious app - Dropbox - service cloud storage and file synchronization. Users of the third generation Galaxy S can use up to 50GB of virtual disk space, which is already quite serious.

If we draw a small conclusion, we can say that Samsung is not looking for easy ways and offers its users more and more advanced technologies. Everyone can make a choice, how and what he will use, it remains only to wait and think - which of the proposed will be of more interest to modern society, and which will not receive special attention, after which it is already possible to create something new.

Display capabilities and sound

Display
If we compare the display of the device with other devices, then we can say that it somewhat resembles screen samsung Galaxy Nexus:
  • Matrix sizes 4.65 and 4.8 inches
  • Matrix type - HD SuperAMOLED
  • Resolution 720 by 1280 pixels

The AMOLED display of the Galaxy S 3 has a very high brightness that adjusts automatically. However, the automation sometimes starts, so to speak, to disappoint - the brightness often starts to switch, especially inconvenient when watching a video. The display sensor itself is very sensitive and capable of recognizing multiple touches at the same time. However, let's focus on video playback.
The built-in video player works quite nicely and can even play Full HD. Of course, you can install third-party players that will work better, but I didn't really need it. The factory video player is capable of minimizing into a window that hangs on top of other programs, and continuing playback while the user is doing their own business. There is also an opinion that standard video and audio players can now stream to any DLNA device on the network (connect to Samsung TV Smart TV, etc.), but I didn't have this option.

Sound
As for the sound, almost everything is decent here and there is enough of it. However, the headset that comes with the device did not really please me, at maximum volume it starts to "cut" the ears, however, this moment occurs only when you turn on the radio receiver, which is a very curious fact, and when playing melodies from the player, everything is pretty decently. You can listen to calm music with great pleasure, but the bass, in my personal opinion, is not enough. As for the radio receiver itself, it has the ability to support RDS and can record a signal in the form of 3GA files (very convenient, you can record your favorite music, or interviews or radio programs into the device). Quite convenient to use and not a lot of hassle.

Connection

Samsung's flagship communicator got everything under its control, a full set of modules wireless, the only thing missing is 4G support. I did not find any particular problems with cellular communication, working on the Internet is a pleasure, especially if you connect to high speed connection via Wi-Fi.
Versions Bluetooth modules and Wi-Fi:
  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • Wi-Fi 802.11a / b / g / n (Supports: Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, DLNA, Kies Air).

Another great news should be noted, the third generation Galaxy line S supports Glonass. The user of the device can now determine his location, which is provided by the signal of our satellites.

Camera

Galaxy S3 received the same camera as its predecessor - 8 Megapixels. You can record videos with Fukk HD 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second. (MP4 (H.264, AAC)). The camera also received an autofocus system and an LED flash, which can be used as a flashlight using the application. In a second, you can take several photos at once, which are of good quality.
Do not overlook the fact that the camera has the ability to recognize faces while shooting, plus all this - taking pictures right during video recording and an image stabilization system. The quality of photos and videos is very decent, here are a few options:

Speed and performance

Samsung's flagship Galaxy S3 received control over the Exynos 4412 chip developed by the company itself, and these are four ARM Cortex-A9 computing cores operating at 1.4 GHz, and an ARM Mali-400 MP4 video processor. The amount of DDR2 RAM is 1 GB.

Performance tests:

Softweg Benchmark 1.03 Test

Quadrant Standard Test

Test in AnTuTu Benchmark 2.8

Calculating the number "pi" in Super Pi:

From the tests above, we can safely say that the Samsung Galaxy S3 is undoubtedly at the very top.

Output

If you look at the overall situation, then we can safely say that the Samsung Galaxy S3 managed to get its gold and rise to the very top of fame. This is a powerful communicator that few people will be able to compete with in 2012. Its main rival, most likely, will remain the iPhone 5, which also burst into the sales market sharply. Of course, after some time something new and more modern will be released, but today this flagship of Samsung has still managed to conquer a huge number of users. Perhaps many will say that the price for it is greatly overestimated, it is hardly possible to disagree with this. However, it is better than the numerous clones that have been roaming around the world for more than one year, the price and quality speak for themselves.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone, as you know, will go on sale on June 5 and will cost 29,990 rubles. At the start of sales, a 16Gb version will be available, a little later it will appear on 32Gb (a 16 and 32Gb version will be immediately available in Europe), but a 64Gb version will most likely appear on sale closer to the end of summer, early autumn. SGS3 will be sold in two colors: blue (sea pebbles) and white (white marble). If you place an order through the website samsung.ru, then along with your smartphone you will receive a free cover-cover (white or blue).

I got my hands on a device in blue. On full overview I will try to wear it in white to form my opinion about the beauty of this or that color, but everything is individual, so I recommend that you evaluate and choose your own color before buying.

I will not delve into the technical characteristics, but although ...

Camera.Galaxy SIII already has CMOS8Mp Samsung LSI S5C73M3 backlit(http://patchwork.linuxtv.org/patch/10708/). There is no data on the sensor on the Internet yet, but let's just say the quality of the photo / video taken on SGS3 will differ from SGS2 and Note ... How much and in which direction?

Wi-Fi. Bluetooth. Samsung Galaxy S3 has a new chip Broadcom BCM4334(the Galaxy Note had a BCM4330).

Broadcom specifications BCM4334:

  • Dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz IEEE 802.11 a / b / g / n Wi-Fi connectivity

Of the features of the BCM4334, we note that the new chip, according to the manufacturer, consumes very, very little power (latest ultra low power solution for smartphones).

Samsung Chip Exynos 4 Quad (Exynos 4412).

Quad-core processor (Cortex-A9), clocked at 1.4 GHz. Made by 32nm process technology.

  • Maximum frequency: 1.4 GHz

Vision is deceiving

Amazing things are happening, so the Galaxy S3 in the photos and in the video did not seem to me to say the least, to put it mildly, especially the rear, but in practice everything turned out to be much better.

"Live" he looks much better - this is noted not only by me, but also by other journalists who managed to hold him in their hands.

Surprisingly, the smartphone fits perfectly in the hand thanks to the same "soapy" shape of the back cover. Even my Galaxy Nexus with its ribbed back cover is not so confident in the hand, but the Samsung Galaxy SIII "sinks" in the hand, completely immersing itself in the palm, so that it is fixed in the hand by the side edges, while back cover firmly in contact with the palm.

I was afraid that because of the gloss it would slip, but it turned out that it lies confidently in the hand.

Almost the entire front surface is occupied by a large 4.8 "HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 × 720 pixels.

PenTile evil or will it go?

Matrix PenTile(the peculiarity of this matrix is in a smaller number of subpixels per pixel compared to a conventional RGB matrix) and you should not be intimidated, since the screen resolution is high. If you have seen the Galaxy Nexus screen (4.65 "), then the Galaxy S3 screen will be comparable in quality. Yes, it has a slightly larger diagonal (4.8"), and accordingly a lower pixel density, but the Galaxy Note has an even lower pixel density and nothing, folks does not complain. Of course, this screen is inferior in clarity to small fonts up to iPhone screens 4 / iPhone 4S, HTC One X.

If you open the site in portrait mode without zooming and look at small text, then you can already notice individual pixels, but again, if you look at it from a close distance. In all other moments, the picture is clear and you will not see the pixels.

There is also a plus in PenTile-matrices, so you can adjust the brightness of the screen from very low to maximum, as on the Galaxy Nexus.

We inspect the case

Let's quickly go over the main elements. On the top of the front panel there are various sensors, a 1.9Mp camera with the ability to record 720p video, as well as missed events indicator.

The volume rocker is located on the left side. The location is good, as you can reach the volume up without shifting the smartphone in your hand.

On the other side, the power button is conveniently located just under the index finger.

Below everything is like most smartphones: a microUSB connector and a microphone.

Separately, I would like to note that the back cover is covered with scratches and abrasions, but due to the non-uniform blue color, it is difficult to notice these flaws, only at a certain angle and under rays of light.

Comparison with Galaxy Nexus

Below in the photos you can estimate the dimensions Samsung Galaxy S3 compared to the Galaxy Nexus.

One more news can be seen on the SGS3 screen)

The presence of touch buttons on the screen has its advantages, so you can change the location of the buttons and add others. In some custom firmwares, it is even possible to hide these buttons, thereby increasing the working area of the screen, but this is not always convenient, since it requires you to perform certain actions. In the Galaxy S3, they did not trick and left everything as it was before: a central mechanical button, two touch buttons for calling the menu and back.

I liked that instead of calling the menu, they did not make a separate button for calling the last running applications, as is the case with HTC smartphones One. It is worth noting that this case can be corrected there too (get rid of the menu bar that takes up part of the screen) by reassigning the functionality of the buttons (you need root).

The narrow mechanical button did not cause any discomfort to me, but the location of it and the touch buttons is close to the bottom edge of the smartphone, this is fail. If you need to press one of the buttons, whether you want it or not, you will have to hold the smartphone from the bottom with your little finger and this is not so scary, as you can get used to it, but what will be difficult to get used to is constant accidental pressing of the touch button " back "when you hold the smartphone in landscape mode (watching video, working with the camera).

Why did it happen? The answer lies in operator versions of SGS3 for other countries. Since the screen occupies almost the entire front surface, the Samsung had to lower the buttons lower to the edge of the screen, thereby freeing up space for the operator's logo.

I am in favor of increasing the size of the smartphone screen, but at the same time 4.8 "is the limit of comfort.

"Question: about the same we talked about a year ago about 4-4.3?"

Answer:

SGS3. Dimensions: 70.6 x 136.6 x 8.6mm
SGS2. Dimensions: 66.1 x 125.3 x 8.49mm
Galaxy Nexus. Dimensions: 67.94 x 135.5 x 8.94mm

The SGS2 is rectangular and not so comfortable to hold in your hand. SGS3 is bigger, but at the same time it has rounded corners, and if you look at the photo in the review, you will see that manufacturers began to reduce the frame, increasing the screen. I do not exclude that in 2013 a smartphone will be released, in which the entire front part will be occupied by the screen, then you can reach up to 5 "while maintaining the current dimensions.

What's under the lid?

2100mAh battery

I can't say anything concrete about the autonomy yet, since you need to test the device for at least a few days, and not a couple of hours, but I definitely noticed that at maximum brightness Galaxy screen The S3 has noticeably longer battery life than the Galaxy Nexus. I think we can hope for 5-5.5 hours of screen operation in load: web, mail, some games, youtube, twitter, etc., but if you just watch a video, then at least 10 hours of charge will be enough.

The SIM card in this device is of a non-standard size, and the microSIM. There are two options: exchange a SIM card with your operator for a microSIM or cut it yourself to the desired size. It will be easier for iPhone owners in this regard).

To remove the SIM card, you will have to remove the battery, in other cases (insert the SIM card, insert / remove the microSD card) you do not need to do this.

I would also like to note that microSD cards up to 64Gb are supported and supported file system exFAT at the kernel level, which means that files larger than 4Gb.

Tachwiz. To be or not to be

Not so terrible anymore, but there are negative points ...

From the positive ...

The new unlock screen has become much more functional (you can unlock, launch the camera, browser, phone, [email protected] on). For a couple of hours that I had a device, I still did not find where it would be possible to change this list of applications ... I would like instead [email protected] appoint for opening Posts.

When viewing the last running applications, you can close everything at once by clicking on the corresponding button. Just why "Delete everything", and not close ...

The most epic fail is folder creation. You cannot create a folder by simply dragging one icon to another! You need to call the menu and select "Create folder", after that you can drop application shortcuts into an empty folder. I am glad that there is always the opportunity to put another Launcher.

The app icons are nice in places. In general, everything looks good, only the indents on the main screen between the rows of icons are too large.

In the notification curtain, the number of icons was increased (on / off Wi-Fi, GPS, mobile data, etc.) and this list was made scrollable. It's bad that you can't change the location of the icons and open the corresponding functionality with a long tap, for example, Wi-Fi settings.

If you press clear memory, about 400Mb of RAM will remain free.

Nice dialer, but you can't swipe between tabs like on "bare" ICS. You have to reach up and click on the tabs ...

The sound is high quality in headphones, I liked the 7.1 effect.

Camera

If we talk about the camera, then the photo quality has become better compared to Galaxy camera Note, but only slightly. Unfortunately, I did not manage to give examples of photos taken on the street, but the pictures turned out to be quite good for indoor use.

Of the features of the camera Samsung Galaxy S3 in comparison with the SGS2 camera, I would like to note: better job autofocus in macro mode; high-quality sound recording; better stabilization when shooting video; the ability to take a number of pictures at once; shoot a video, while there is an opportunity to immediately take a photo.

Photos taken indoors!

Answers to frequently asked questions

For Galaxy Nexus owners

Should I buy the Samsung Galaxy S3?

Pros of buying:

  • Support for microSD cards;
  • Better camera (photo, video, sound recording);
  • More autonomy, but no one bothers to buy an extended battery on the Nexus (a review of 1750/2000 / 3800mAh batteries will be a little later);
  • Possibly N.O.V.A. 3 on Nexus will have cut graphics, but on SGS3 the toy will definitely work without problems and with maximum settings. Following N.O.V.A 3, other hardware-demanding games will appear.

Summarizing the above, I would not change the Nexus to SGS3, since the Nexus has an advantage in Android updates, "bare" Android (AOSP) and a price of 14 thousand rubles. When the price of the Galaxy S3 drops below 19 thousand and fully working custom firmware without tachvis, then you can think about the purchase.

For Samsung Galaxy S2 owners

Should I buy SGS3?

Pros of buying:

  • Better headphone sound;
  • Bigger screen;
  • The ability to set the very minimum screen brightness (reading text in low light);
  • More autonomy;
  • There is an NFC chip (for example, you can check how many rides are left in the subway);
  • Better camera (it focuses better near, quickly takes a series of shots, records sound better, stabilization works better when recording video).

Yes, it's worth thinking about buying. If 30 thousand rubles. expensive, that is, options to order SGS3 from abroad for 21 thousand.

Samsung Galaxy S3 video review

General impressions

Despite some shortcomings with the location of the buttons, glossy lid and tachvis, the device will find its buyer and will be sold in millions of pieces around the world.

P / S / forgot to write about the bonus + 48Gb

The release of the Samsung Galaxy S 3 came as no surprise. Its announcement was preceded by a large number of leaks, and the public was heated to the limit. For the most part, expectations were justified - we were shown a productive Google Phone with impressive characteristics, but, unfortunately, enclosed in a not very attractive case. The hype turned out to be so strong that, as a result, many took the shown device coolly. And if iPhone owners 4S and Android flagships from other manufacturers (by that time, HTC One X, Sony Xperia S had come to wide retail), he did not inspire for obvious reasons, but the reaction of users of Galaxy S 2, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Nexus was unexpected. Although, if you look at the Galaxy S 3 from all sides, then everything falls into place.

Design, construction and equipment

The Galaxy S 3 is available in two colors - white and navy blue. We tested a white version for sale in one of the European countries. However, its equipment does not differ from the Russian one: unit charger(1000 mA output), USB cable, wired headset, 2100 mAh battery, documentation. I won’t be surprised if I say that at first I didn’t like the design of the phone: a flat device in a glossy plastic casing, the place for which belongs to budget solutions, and not to a top-end gadget. But live, I must admit, the phone does not cause rejection and to some extent even attractive. Of course, it is difficult to call it stylish, looking at the same Xperia S with a transparent insert with a backlight, but there is some zest in the Galaxy S 3. In addition, thanks to the rounded corners and small thickness (8.6 mm), the novelty fits perfectly in the hand - a shovel, but comfortable.

On the front of the device there is an LED, light and distance sensors, a 1.9 megapixel camera, an earpiece, and a company logo. To the right and left of the central "home" key (it is physical) are the touch "back" and "menu". Almost the entire front side is occupied by a 4.8 "display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The usable area given for it is more than that of the notorious Xperia S, therefore, the phones are close to each other in height, but working with the Galaxy S 3 is more convenient (although you often have to use both hands, but this is true for all devices with a large diagonal). On back side- logo, speaker, 8-megapixel camera with powerful LED flash and autofocus. On the left side there is a volume rocker, on the right - the off / lock key, on the top - a 3.5 mm jack and an additional microphone, on the bottom - a microUSB port and the main microphone.

If we look under the cover (a thin piece of plastic that closes with terrible clicks), we will see a powerful battery with an integrated NFC chip, a slot for a micro-SIM and a slot for a microSD memory card.

The location of the central key close to the bottom end is justified from the point of view that it excludes accidental presses on the screen - I did not find any inconveniences in working with it. The touch buttons have a pleasant backlighting, which is especially effective in the white model (I touched the blue one in the store and was not impressed with it). There is no dedicated camera button on the body, but the virtual key on the lock screen can easily cope with the role of a quick launch of the camera. The plastic is of high quality and, like any gloss, will scratch if you do not take measures to protect the case (aka a cover). At the same time, I cannot say that the soft-touch would be the best option, as it climbs, and the phone may lose its presentable appearance pretty fast (using the Xperia S as an example). Glass and metal (well, and ceramics) would be more appropriate on a flagship for 30 thousand rubles, but, alas, Samsung is not poking around in this direction yet. The assembly of the Galaxy S 3 is excellent - you will not find any creaks or backlashes even over time.

Software

It would be strange if the Galaxy S 3 was based on the old Android version so the unit sports 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. Officially, nothing has been said about updating to 4.1 Jelly Bean yet, but it's a matter of time. The interface is played by a modified TouchWiz called Nature UX. The shell is made with an emphasis on the unity of man with nature - sounds, pictures, ringtones - everything is calm and attuning to a peaceful mood. Unfortunately, not everyone likes the murmur and flowers, so the company should have provided an option for a stricter interface. However, no one bothers to install third-party wallpapers or specify your music. Yes, and root can help if it's completely unbearable.

To accommodate widgets, of which there is a great variety for any tasks, applications and folders, up to seven desktops are allocated. The lock screen is very flexible - you can customize the display of weather, stocks, news, keys quick access to the most frequently used functions. The player control keys appear on the notification screen, if it is active, various notifications. There are always quick access buttons for Wi-Fi, GPS, silent mode, auto-rotate screen off, power saving, mobile data, Bluetooth, driving mode and sync. When you hold down the home key, the last running applications, which immediately you can close everything, or go to the Task Manager, where you can pause certain programs.

The settings should be discussed in more detail. At the top there are Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, Data usage, where the user has the right to specify a threshold for the volume of mobile Internet traffic in order not to go beyond the tariff limit, Android Beam and S Beam using NFC technology are located in Advanced. There is a smart standby mode in the display settings - it detects that the user is looking at the screen and does not turn off the backlight. In principle, it works. Several types of fonts and sizes will definitely appeal to visually impaired users. The HD Super AMOLED display can be used on the Galaxy S 3 in four modes - Dynamic (too bright, just gouge your eye out), Standard (default), Natural (close to real gamut), and Movie (all dull and dull). A lot of smartphone functions are tied to the position sensor. I don’t like motion control, so I’ll honestly say that I haven’t tested them in practice. But I checked voice control- it works, but the conditions around should be close to ideal, that is, no extraneous noise. But even in this case, the device has to raise the voice, which looks ridiculous from the outside. Voice can take pictures, control the player, rearrange the alarm, answer calls. I really liked the voice input of the text - the accuracy of the definition of Russian words is quite high, but the technology is not yet able to put punctuation marks. Alternatively, you can enter text with Swipe gestures. Fast and convenient. But for some reason the words are not chosen those that are needed. The Xperia S has a slightly more intuitive technology. The phone works for a long time, but the Power saving item will additionally help to extend the time. There the performance of the processor, brightness is limited, the brightness level in applications changes, vibration is turned off. There are a lot of locking methods - by swiping across the screen, and by movement, and across the face (Face Control), and by voice, and a pattern, and a password, and even a PIN. At the same time, not all of them are safe, and face recognition is easy to deceive with a photograph - in Jelly Bean it will be more difficult to do this, since there will be a check for the "survivability" of the object.

Let's go through the pre-installed applications.

AllShare Play uses Wi-Fi to connect your smartphone with others electronic devices... The function makes it possible to broadcast and receive content over a wireless connection.

The Dropbox client, one of the best online storage facilities, is present. I put a plus sign.

FM radio works with headphones. Something special cannot be noted.

There are several services for downloading applications on the device - Game Hub, Play Market, S Suggest, Samsung Apps, Other Services. Four of them are branded from Samsung. This is not bad, but not good either. Why offer the user so many alternatives, the difference between which is practically no, is the same everywhere? Isn't it better to collect all programs in one convenient place, as is done in iOS?

The S Memo note-taking program came with the Galaxy Note. But if the “overgrown” is comfortable working with it with a stylus, then drawing and writing with your finger on the Galaxy S 3 with a smaller screen diagonal is not the best idea. However, no one bothers to buy an electronic pen for the device - such an accessory is announced by the manufacturer. However, I would recommend opting for the Galaxy Note if you really want to create.

S Planner is an advanced version of the standard calendar with the Google Android task planner.

Apple Siri laurels haunt many, in particular Samsung. The S Voice electronic assistant works in a similar way - the user asks the device questions and gives instructions, and he follows them. The service does not yet understand Russian, so its usefulness tends to zero. However, even those who know English will probably get bored with it in half an hour. That Siri, that S Voice - pure indulgence with a short wow effect. Comparative video of both services:

Android Ice Cream Sandwich has changed the YouTube client. The functionality remained the same, but outwardly it became prettier. Subscribe to our channel !

Galaxy S 3 is a powerful multimedia processor that grinds video high resolution the most different formats... The manufacturer claims support for Full HD and MPEG4, H.264, H.263, DivX, DivX3.11, VC-1, VP8, WMV7 / 8, Sorenson Spark. A rare file will ask for transcoding for playback with a standard player. I was impressed by the sketches of the videos, which help to understand what the file is about. The picture-in-picture function is also interesting - the small screen of the movie can be taken out of the video player to watch the movie by communicating via SMS.

It is difficult to single out the features of the Gallery, but it is possible. If DLNA connection is active, then it will show photos and videos from other devices. It is also worth noting the function of detecting faces - you can let the phone automatically indicate friends, although it is better to do this manually.

The standard browser is very fast. Flash is not supported out of the box, so if you want to watch banners, go to the Play Market. Curiously, the screen brightness can be set separately for the browser, regardless of the overall brightness. I believe that the days of branded browsers are numbered with the availability of Chrome for ICS, so it's better to install it from the Market and start getting used to it.

There are several services from Yandex - Kinoafisha (description of films, addresses of the nearest cinemas with sessions), Market ( convenient service to find stores with any goods you are interested in), Weather.

The music player has not attracted sympathy - there are problems with the encoding, the interface is inconvenient, in some cases you cannot go to the library without closing the application. The sound quality is good, there are a lot of equalizer presets, but there is still a lot to work on.

The Clock contains an alarm clock, timer, stopwatch, world time.

Camera

The Galaxy S 3 uses an 8MP module with flash and autofocus. As befits a flagship, the number of different settings is great. There is a convenient touch focus, a zoom function while shooting a video, the ability to take 6-megapixel photos by shooting Full HD video, a high-speed shooting mode (20 frames at a time) with automatic selection best photo... Photo quality, for my taste, is about on par with the Xperia S, iPhone 4S and Nokia N8. Somewhere better, somewhere worse, but it is difficult to identify an unambiguous leader.

This time, the new flagship got to us pretty quickly - a little over two weeks after the announcement in London. And we wanted to see it this time more than in the previous two years - Samsung was too good at making a noise, stirring up the desire and making the Samsung Galaxy S 3 the most anticipated Android smartphone in the world.

Housing and appearance

Using this smartphone, I completely changed my outlook on design, ergonomics, quality of materials and materials themselves. During the presentation, I was slightly bewildered, why is plastic again, also glossy? In fact, taking a smartphone in hand for the first time, you understand - everything is as it should be. Why is the case collapsible? It's simple - this is how it should be if you know how to make a smartphone sturdy and durable. The Samsung Galaxy S 3 is exactly that, I could not achieve at least some crunch, even with great effort. Even the HTC One X had a slight move on the back, if you press it, everything is gorgeous. The collapsible design has a number of advantages, for example, you can always supply a larger battery or buy a spare one if you go on a hike, and if the cover is scratched, you can always replace it. The situation here is even better than a year ago in, where the lid did not cover the whole back part, which means that if the smartphone hits its back on the asphalt, its non-replaceable part will also get scratched. Of course, a year ago I called this an improvement, as in the original Galaxy S, the lid covered the entire back and from this it had a habit of creaking. But in the "troika" they were able to make the fasteners reliable, I can't imagine how something can creak even after a year.

Why plastic? Again, I quickly found a reasonable explanation for myself. If the body were made of aluminum, it would most likely be non-separable, moreover, with a hard fall on the asphalt, the metal deteriorates more, and then the traces do not polish by themselves. If the body were glass, then I don't even want to imagine what would have happened if the smartphone fell even on a flat tile.

Why is the plastic glossy? Again, I am quick ... No, it still remains a question. There is no cheap feeling, contrary to expectations, it looks pretty nice, but such material as in the Nokia 808 PureView would be more practical, I think. There, too, the design is collapsible and the plastic looks better.

But keep in mind, we cannot say that the smartphone is made of glossy plastic, only the cover. If you want, you can change it for something else, I'm sure the Chinese will rivet.

So, with the materials and construction sorted out, what about the design in general? The shape of the smartphone is almost identical to the body and I like it. At least, this is no longer an iPhone, as in the case of the first generation Galaxy S, but also not a faceless square piece of plastic, like last year's flagship. Here you can see that they worked on the design, the smartphone looks good in the hands and, moreover, it fits comfortably in the hand.

SGS3 will be available in two color options - white and blue. Again, the absence of black is like some kind of shattered stereotype, because any phone is first of all produced in black! I didn’t hold blue, but I dare to assume that it is as beautiful as white.

I cannot call the SGS3 a shovel, it can even be used with one hand, although I almost dropped it several times. The smartphone is noticeably larger than the iPhone and just as noticeably smaller. Carrying a smartphone in the front pocket of jeans does not cause the slightest inconvenience, as well as using the phone on a daily basis. But, this is already a matter of taste and palm size; for many, the smartphone may seem too big.

Positioning everything on the sides of the device

There were no more elements. Probably the only thing I would like to see more is the camera key. Even if not always, but very often it is more convenient to take pictures with its help. I'll start with the main one - from the display. It has a 4.8 ″ diagonal in the Galaxy S 3, is made using Super AMOLED technology and the pixels are arranged according to the PenTile scheme. By the way, this is the first question for a smartphone, for me it is even more relevant than gloss. Yes, many will say that at this resolution, namely 1280x720 pixels, graininess is not visible, but this is not so. Yes, when viewing photos, videos, scrolling through desktops, there are no questions. But when reading the text, the ribbing of the letters is noticeable and it's a pity. After the world community expressed its "fe" about this, Samsung reacted, allegedly PenTile was used because of the longer display life. But considering that we are talking about terms that cannot be compared with the duration of using one smartphone, it becomes obvious that the manufacturer saves on displays with the "Plus" postscript.

The rest of the screen is fine and if you are already familiar with AMOLED technology and you like it - the display in the Galaxy S 3 will not disappoint. It is quite bright to maintain readability in the sun, but this can no longer be called a trump card, since in the same LG Optimus L7 the screen is not Super AMOLED, but its maximum brightness can be even higher. I, as before, do not like too high level of the minimum brightness of the backlight, in the dark you have to use your smartphone squinting.

I am incredibly pleased with the presence of an LED indicator, which, moreover, can be configured.

It is located above the display, to the left of the earpiece. When there is nothing to notify about, you will not even know about the existence of the notifier! To the right of the speaker are the light and proximity sensors, as well as a 1.9MP camera. By the way, it can record video in 720p, the pictures are also good.

Below the display we see a standard "Samsung" set of buttons: a mechanical home button and two touch-sensitive buttons on either side of it. I am glad that we have retained the purpose of the touch keys, but we could have made a multitasking key, as everyone else does. Honestly, I don't see the point. Much more convenient, it seems to me, to hang up the controls open applications on the center key, which you will need to hold down for a second. So it is implemented here!

Yes, in the case of the control keys, beauty prevailed over convenience. If the location of the buttons almost from the bottom can not even be called beautiful, then the shape of the hardware key is more pleasant than in SGS2 or SGSNote, but it is too narrow, you will have to get used to using it.

In contrast, the headphone and headset jack is located on the top of the smartphone. Immediately we see the second microphone. Below is a spoken microphone and a MicroUSB connector.

On the left is the lock and power key, on the right is the paired volume button.

Removing the cover reveals slots for a microSD memory card and a microSIM card, as well as a 2100 mAh battery. Autonomy is enough for a day, but with more or less moderate use. I think, as in the case of the Galaxy S 2, a software update will arrive in a month or two and the autonomy will increase.

Camera

One of the main features of the first two generations of galaxies was the camera - one of the best in its time. Galaxy S 3 is no exception, there is a camera with an 8 MP sensor, video is recorded up to 1080p. So far, nothing surprising, but the quality has become slightly better than in the Galaxy Note, the difference with the SGS2 is more noticeable. The video is written with great sound, before SGS3 this title belonged to HTC Sensation XL (from Android smartphones). The fact is that, having tried to record a video at a concert, with almost any smartphone you will get a video track and a noise track instead of sound. In the Galaxy S 3, even drums played a meter away from the device were recorded perfectly.

It is possible to take continuous shooting at a frequency of 3.5 frames per second, then the smartphone itself offers the best photos from the series. You can, of course, save all the photos.

You can see examples of photos in, or, in full size.

Software

This time Samsung did everything as correctly as possible - they did not bulge the cores, megahertz and everything else, but did enough powerful smartphone with an emphasis on software. I keep repeating that hardware is just a tool, you can't take anything from them, except to guarantee the good work of the software. If all the software I need will work on a certain hardware, you don't even have to say how many cores there are and whose they are. Android smartphones are starting to show really good smoothness of the interface and the Galaxy S 3 is another confirmation of this. From the little things like scrolling through desktops, contacts or long menus, I didn't notice any fps drop or jitter.

The smartphone has latest version Android 4.0.4, on top of which the proprietary TouchWiz shell was pulled, which then received the Nature UX prefix. The bottom line is that locking, unlocking, sound from keystrokes and much more, are accompanied by sounds from nature. Cool, not cool - I don't know. Not usual, but let it be.

The interface has become nicer than in previous versions of TouchWiz, but it's still a long way from HTC Sense in terms of beauty and convenience. But in the speed of work, it seems to me that TW has already bypassed the opponent. It's good that many of the chips from the bare Android 4.0 are respected, this is the multitasking interface, and the menu consisting of applications and widgets, and the removal of items with swipes in some menus. It's a pity that they forgot about creating a folder by dragging one icon onto another.

But now I realize that I can no longer say: “Take your shitty shell away”, I start to like it. Change the icons and you can be happy! The fact is that Samsung did not just say: “Here's to you a new version TW with an unusual name and a gurgle of water, clap! " They brought a lot of unique pieces here, which were the main focus of the presentation. For example, S Beam, because they were able to accomplish what I dreamed of and talked about once in a video blog, now you can transfer files via Wi-Fi, but connect devices with each other using NFC. Just hit your smartphones and don't worry about anything. Or what is it worth recognizing faces in photos, with the ability to add them to contacts and then call directly from the photo! Or Function Smart stay that prevents the screen from dimming when you read some text. There are many other innovations, for example, S Voice that, in fact, there is a competitor to Siri. But even the advanced S Memo note-taking and planner I like here.

SamSiri

This woman, who is actually called S Voice, has a lot to learn in life. Too early she was sent to the people, I believe. Called by voice assistant by double pressing the center key, then you can speak. Basically, the simplest questions asked at the right time will be answered, for example, if you want to know the weather. After receiving the result, the woman goes to rest, you can wake her up by saying “Hi Galaxy”. But in practice, our woman is strong, it happens that you cannot wake up with just requests.

There is also a character, for example, the dialogue below resembles the children's game "Buy an Elephant" (thanks for the association to the reader on Twitter).

Note that it was not me who asked stupid questions like “I would like to see”, I wanted to finish the phrase, but my aunt just interrupts in mid-sentence and, without hearing the rest, is delirious. And there are also simple misunderstandings.

(The last screenshot was provided by our reader, obviously, it was taken on another smartphone, but still)

Performance

Perhaps many have been waiting for even more powerful hardware, but the Galaxy S 3 also makes the smartphone the most powerful Android device on the market. This is facilitated by a quad-core Exynos 4212 processor, with a frequency of 1.4 GHz and a Mali-400MP graphics accelerator. RAM is 1 GB, although two could have been installed, there is never a lot of RAM. The built-in memory can be 16, 32 or 64 GB, but remember, there is also a slot for a memory card!

Thanks to its great performance, you can even open Full HD video in a separate window, while performing other actions. This window can be moved around the screen without even thinking about the interface!

Output

We got another star among all smartphones in general. Not a revolution, but a really cool device that you want to use and, most importantly, it is convenient to use. But, if last year there were no alternatives to the Galaxy S 2 until the Galaxy Note and then the Galaxy Nexus came out, now you can safely look at at least three models from other manufacturers:, and, they are all good in their own way. I can't even single out a favorite that is very detached from them, so I recommend that if you are going to buy such a smartphone, take a look at all these new items. But the competent promotion, which I talked about at the very beginning, did their own thing - Samsung Galaxy S 3 is already the most anticipated smartphone. To date, about 10 million devices have already been ordered by operators and it is very possible that SGS3 sales in the first few days will set a new record in the market. After talking with the new flagship of the company for a little less than a week, I can safely recommend the new product to you!

The world has changed and if before a smartphone with a display diagonal of a little more than 4 inches looked like a shovel, now, picking it up, it may seem that this is exactly what you need. Korean developers presented their flagship with a capital letter, focused on software and autonomy.

Frame

At the first glance at the phone, it becomes clear that Samsung has not reinvented the wheel and it is unlikely that it will be possible to find something new in the design concept. You can catch yourself thinking: "I've already seen this somewhere." This is understandable, because the device is very similar to its younger brother Galaxy Nexus.

The smartphone is available in 5 colors: sea pebbles, gray titanium, red garnet, white marble and black sapphire. The Galaxy S3 case is made of glossy plastic, which, as far as we remember, provoked a number of indignations due to the body's soiled and scratch-prone case. But take the device in hand, you are unlikely to feel cheapness, discomfort or unaesthetic. The build quality is excellent, nothing crunches or creaks, the rear removable cover, although thin, is very flexible and durable. Even if it gets scratched, you can always buy a new one for very little money. In addition, plastic is more resistant to impacts when dropped, which cannot be said about glass. The case is only 8.6mm thick and weighs 133g.

Screen

Upon acquaintance with all the attention involuntarily switches to an HD Super AMOLED display with a diagonal of 4.8 "and a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. The image on it turned out to be very lively, contrasting and juicy, viewing angles are wide, but the PenTile technology, on the basis of which the screen is made, is to a greater extent is a disadvantage, rather than an advantage, because the grain, although barely noticeable, is still there. But, nevertheless, watching movies or photos, surfing the Internet or just playing on such a device is pleasant and very comfortable. , having made a bet on a large diagonal of the screen, and you will understand this when you touch it.

Camera

The main camera with a resolution of 8 megapixels is a new generation matrix with backlit illumination, which, in poor lighting conditions, allows you to get a photo or video very decent quality... The camera is fast and can click at 3.5 frames per second. By the way, the device can recognize faces, which can be useful if, for example, you want to send several photos to your friend, in which he is depicted. The smartphone is capable of recording HD video and taking photos at the same time.

The front camera with a resolution of 1.9 megapixels is equipped with Smart stay technology (discussed below).

What is inside

Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 has a processor with 4 cores 1.4 GHz, 1 GB of RAM and 16, 32 or 64 GB of internal memory. The memory can be expanded with microSD cards up to 64GB. The smartphone works as quickly and without freezing as possible on Android devices, the smoothness of the interface is almost iOS-naya. The operating system Android 4.0.4 is installed on board.

While performance tests show high scores, it's still a mistake to believe that the smartphone is head and shoulders above the iPhone 5. IOS optimization is done so well that even despite the 4-core muscle, the Galaxy S3 often loses (see the video review of Iphone 5 vs. Samsung Galaxy S3). But again, this is most likely an Android problem, but certainly not the device itself.

A removable battery with a capacity of 2100 mAh is capable of providing autonomous operation of the device for about 1 day in active mode. With an average load, the smartphone can live almost 2 times longer.

Functions

The device is equipped with many functions, some of them may be really useful and in demand.

Smart Alert- a function that will notify you of missed events as soon as you take the phone in your hand.

Direct call- the ability to call the subscriber while reading SMS, for this you just need to bring the device to your ear.

Smart stay- Catches your gaze and automatically adjusts the screen backlight for comfortable use and conserves power. For example, if you are reading, the screen will not turn off, but if you look away from it, it will turn off after a while.

Social tag- the ability to link the faces of your friends in the photo album with social networks... For example, looking at a friend's photo, you will see his status on the network.

S Voice- allows you to control your phone using your voice. For example, using voice commands, you can unlock the phone, answer incoming call or dismiss it, control music volume or take a picture.

Pop up play- now two things can be done at the same time, for example, watch video and read SMS.

I would also like to note a special editor that allows you to independently create a vibration rhythm for notifications.

conclusions

The phone rightly deserves all the marks and praises. It turned out to be very balanced, thanks to the excellent screen, good camera and software equipment. If at the start of sales at a cost of about 30,000 rubles. the glossy plastic and the PenTile screen caused controversy, but now, at a fairly affordable price, the passions have subsided a little. Like any other modern smartphone, is very functional, but at the same time it stands out from the general range of models, thanks to the new intelligent approach of developers in its design. The device seems to be trying to predict your thoughts and desires, and you know, it really does it.
