How do I start using Yandex.Disk?
You can go to Disk at: disk.yandex.ru... If you already have Yandex.Mail, then you can enter your Disk by entering your username and password from the mail at the top of the page.
If you do not have mail on Yandex, then you need to click on the "Start Disk" button and, following the prompts, create a mailbox. This will create a Yandex account for yourself, and your username and password will serve to access other service tools - Disk, Direct, Metrika, etc.
In the future, you will be able to access Disk directly from your mailbox; you will see a corresponding tab at the top. Or while it is not there, you need to click on the "More" tab, select "All services" from the list and click "Yandex.Disk" there.
Storage space for your files
New Disk users are given 10 GB of space. This space can be expanded for free and for a fee. At the top right, there is an inscription about how much space on your Drive, click on it to find out how to increase the space.
Free, inviting friends - for 1 person 512 MB is given (something like affiliate program). In total, this way you can expand the Disk by another 10 GB.

How do I create documents in the cloud?
You can create folders on your Yandex.Disk, as well as Word documents, Excel documents and Power Point presentations. Click on the "Create" button and select the type of document you need. I will not show you how to work with these documents (otherwise the article will stretch for kilometers), if you used them on a computer, then the interface is similar in the cloud.
For example, you can move files to the created folders and organize them as you like.
Shared folders
If you give another user full access to a folder, he will be able not only to view its contents, but also add his own files to it, as well as edit the documents that you added there. In the same way as you will be able to edit the documents he added. That is, it is collaborative work on documents in the cloud.
To share a folder, select it with the mouse, the button "Share" will appear on the right. Click on it for further settings.

Actions on files and folders in Yandex.Disk

It is noteworthy that this way you can share not only files already in the Yandex Disk folder, but also any other files on your computer. As soon as you do this, they will automatically be uploaded to the cloud storage (the program's icon in the tray will turn blue during the download), and you will receive a link that you can send to your friend, publish on the website or do something else with it.
For example, this is how the page that your opponent (to whom you sent the link to) will see if you shared a whole folder of photos with him. He can view them right here (in the format of a photo gallery), and then, if desired, he can download them to his computer (in one archive), or upload them to his cloud on Yandex disk.

And the most delicious feature that is only available in the Yandex cloud web interface is, of course, the ability to view document versions and the ability to recover from one of these versions. For example, while editing a text file, you could change (erase) something inadvertently, after which you did not notice save the file.
But if you have it stored (synchronized) in the cloud, then it's okay. Just go to disk.yandex.ru, go to the "Files" or "Last" tab, find this file and right-click on it. From the menu that opens, select the "Change history" item.
In the window that opens, you will see all versions of this file for the last two weeks (changes will be stored on a paid plan for three months). Find the version you want using the date or simply opening all of them in a row, and then restoring it. All.

This mobile application will allow viewing most of the files stored on Yandex, and what will not work, you can try to open it in a specialized application on your tablet or smartphone.
To the right of files and folders, you can see various icons. A chain means that you made this file or directory public (created a link to it and possibly shared it with someone). Airplane icon means "Offline mode", i.e. this file or folder is located not only in the cloud and on your gadget (in its memory).
In general, it is very convenient and significantly saves traffic. Let's say at home you connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi and calmly upload movies, photos, books, etc. to the Yandex cloud. rubbish. Then open Disk on your phone and make each of these files available offline:
For this, only swipe the file from left to right (or vice versa), and in the menu that opens, select the airplane icon. All files marked in this way will immediately be physically downloaded to your phone (via free home Wi-Fi, mind you). Everything, to work, consider that you are prepared.

Naturally, you can upload files from your gadget to the cloud (a blue plus button serves for this), but this does not make much sense if you have multimedia autoloading enabled. In general, Yandex Disk, in my opinion, can become in a convenient way not only storage, but also transferring files (photos, videos taken, etc.) from a smartphone to a desktop computer or laptop.
Conversely, the transfer of various text files, or a video on a smartphone so that there is something to do on the way to work (after all, you can download at home via Wi-Fi without bothering with traffic).

So far, I like everything and I have a week left to make the decision to move from Dropbox to Yandex Disk. Why am I thinking of moving? Banal redneck. Why pay three and a half times more for the same service?

- In Ya.Disk now there is also storage of file versions (history of changes).
- For the same Terabyte they ask for several times less.
- The mobile application is very similar both in appearance and functionality.
- Media files from gadgets are loaded automatically, and even without taking into account their weight (cool enticement, in fact).
- The YandexDisk desktop program, although not familiar, but if you look at it, is quite functional and does exactly what I need.
Why do I hesitate? I have checked the Dropbox trite for years of constant use, but I still use Yandex Disk not so intensively and therefore I am afraid that some pitfalls may come up during the transition.

1. Yandex Disk: what is it
Yandex.Disk is a popular cloud storage that allows users to store various information (photos, videos, audio, texts and other files) in the so-called "cloud", i.e. on a server on the network. Data stored on Yandex.Disk can be shared with other users, and can also be accessed from various devices - other computers, tablets and smartphones. The basic version of Yandex.Disk is completely free and available to everyone. I remember that in 2012 it was an invite-only registration, and I used an alternative service, Dropbox. But now I have completely switched to Yandex Disk Cloud. After all, free, and even available from everywhere 10 GB are not superfluous.
2. Yandex Disk: how to use - step by step instructions
So, I convinced you, and you decided to install Yandex Disk on your computer. Now let's take a closer look at how to use Yandex Cloud (this is also called Yandex.Disk, since it is a cloud data storage).
2.1. How to create Yandex Disk (registration in Yandex Cloud)
To start using Yandex.Disk, you need to register and create a mailbox from Yandex (if you already have one, go straight to the second point).
4. Installing Yandex.Disk on a smartphone. Free Apps are available for iOS and Android, so they can be downloaded without any problems at App Store and Google play... The iOS app does not have a very high rating, there are some shortcomings, all this can be seen in the reviews.
2.3. Yandex Disk: how much space is free?
Immediately after registering and installing Yandex.Disk, you have access to 10 GB free space in the Cloud. For a start, this is quite enough, it was enough for me for about six months. What if there is not enough space?

1. Open the shortcut of the Yandex.Disk folder on the Desktop, if you have not deleted it after installation.
2. Open Yandex.Disk in the My Computer folder.

2.4. How to upload files to Yandex Disk - 7 easy ways
Consider now the most main point, because of which we performed all these actions -. Again, there are several ways to do this:
1. Through the context menu... Select the file that you want to upload to the Cloud, right-click on it and select the item: "Yandex.Disk: Copy a public link":
2. Copy the file to the Yandex.Disk folder (I wrote above how to enter it). By default, this folder is automatically synced, so when you copy there, all files will be immediately added to your Drive.
3. Upload files via mobile app iOS or Android. I can consider this method in a separate article, if you leave such a wish in the comments.
4. Upload a file to the Cloud via a browser... To do this, simply drag and drop the selected files into the browser window with open Yandex.Disk:
5. Copying someone else's files... If someone has shared with you a link to a file stored on Yandex.Disk, you can save it to your Cloud without any problems. To do this, you need to follow the link sent in the form https://yadi.sk/*** and on the right click on the "Save to Yandex.Disk" button.
They also often ask - how to upload a folder to Yandex Disk... The principle is the same as described above in the section with files. But there is another additional benefit - the folder can be assigned Shared access. Thus, other users to whom you grant access rights will be able to view and download files in this folder, as well as upload their files there.
How to upload a video to Yandex Disk? - is also a very popular question from Cloud users. This is due to the fact that video files are usually large in size, and many worry that they simply will not "fit" and cannot be stored there. This is not the case, video files, like photos, can be uploaded and stored on Yandex.Disk.
2.5. Yandex Disk: how to transfer files to another user
You can also remove access to the file by clicking the mouse and toggling it to OFF.
If for some reason you need to remove Yandex.Disk from your computer, you should do the same as with regular application - use standard means operating system.
