How to disable windows 10 security service. Disable Windows Defender completely

The question of how to enable Windows 10 Defender is no less common than disabling it. Most often, the situation develops as follows: when you try to open the standard anti-virus "Tens", the system reports that it is prohibited by the rules group policy... At the same time, it is impossible to turn on the defender through the system settings - the switches are simply inactive.

In this article, we'll take a look at how to enable Windows 10 Defender different ways and we will give some more information that relates to this issue (for example, what to do if the defender does not turn on), and at the very end you will find a thematic video.

The problem most often lies in the fact that a person disables the built-in antivirus of Windows 10 in some wrong way. It is generally undesirable to deactivate the standard antivirus, unless in order to replace it with another. But in this case, Windows Defender turns off on its own.

If, in spite of everything, you decide to disable the defender and leave the system vulnerable, you can find out in one of the articles on our website, but for now we will consider the reverse course of events.

This option Suitable only for those users on whose PCs Windows 10 Pro is installed. The fact is that the home edition of the OS simply does not have a Group Policy editor. It turns out that if you have a home “Ten”, go straight to the next method.

  1. Initially, we launch the editor itself, for which we will use the "Run" utility. To start it, press the Win + R combination, and when the program window appears, enter the operator: gpedit.msc into it, and then press Enter.

  1. When the program starts, on the left side (indicated by the number "1", go to the indicated path), and in the right (indicated by the number "2"), find the item highlighted in blue.

  1. It is this key that is responsible for disabling the defender. Open it double click and look at the content. Just like in our screenshot, the switch should be in the "Disabled" position. If this is not the case, then make the necessary changes and click "OK".

  1. After we turn on Windows Defender, we need to activate one more item. It's right there - it's Real-Time Protection. Click on it and open the section indicated in the screenshot by double-clicking the left mouse button.

  1. In the window that opens, you need to set the switch to the "Disabled" position if it was at a different mark. Then we press "OK".

  1. Setting up the editor is over, now let's try to start the defender itself. It is recommended to restart your computer before doing this. To open the defender (if it is not in the system tray), write a request in the search windows prompt... It will look like this:

After that, enable the defender in its settings. The switches should become active. If this does not happen, then try the next method using the registry editor.

How to enable antivirus through the registry

Since Windows 10 Home does not contain a Group Policy Editor, you need to use a slightly different option here - the Registry Editor. Why a little? Because the policy editor itself, in fact, changes the keys in the system windows registry 10. So, if it is impossible to start the defender, do the following:

  1. Launch the registry editor through the Run utility. We call it with the keyboard shortcut Win + R. When the window appears, write the word in it regedit and press Enter.

  1. When the program starts, on the left side of it, follow the path that we marked with the number "1", and in the right half, check for the key DisableAntiSpyware ... If there is none, then you can skip reading (the defender is not disabled in the registry). If the key is present, open it by double-clicking the left mouse button and set the value to "0".

After that, you can close the registry editor and try to turn on the standard antivirus through the search (as described in the previous section).

Attention! For the edits to take effect, be sure to restart your PC or laptop.

Turn on Windows 10 Defender Service

If you get errors when you try to enable Windows 10 Defender using one of the described methods, do the following:

  1. Open system services. To do this, use the combination of buttons Win + R, and then enter the operator in the window that appears msc and click "OK".

  1. The window that opens will display all services registered in the system. Find the entry Antivirus program Windows Defender ... The service should work - this is evidenced by the inscription indicated by the frame.

If this is not the case, double-click the left mouse button on the service name and click on the "Start" button. Our antivirus is working, so the button is inactive.

Additional Information

In this article, we covered the topic of how to enable Windows Defender 10. If you have any questions or feedback about the material, ask us in the comments, and we will try to give a comprehensive answer as soon as possible.

Video on how to enable Windows 10 Defender

Since the beginning of this year, we have learned about the Windows 10 update Creators UpdateWe also learned that the Windows Defender Security Center has been completely redesigned. There was talk that with the improvement of windows 10 defender, third-party antiviruses would not be required. In the new security center, we already have access to firewall, performance and device status, network protection and application and browser control.

However, some users trust other antivirus products, which you can also look at this. My observations of windows defender impressed me. I have been using it for 4 months already, while I am very active in Internet surfing. I scan every week antivirus scanner which is very popular in scanning. As a result, windows 10 defender blocked all threats that I came across and after scanning I have no viruses on my computer. But for lovers and fans of third-party antiviruses, we will analyze how forever disable windows 10 defender, security center, and remove the windows 10 defender icon from the tray.

How to disable windows 10 defender permanently

The easiest way to disable the built-in antivirus from microsoft is to simply disable it in the settings, but after a while it will turn back on. Go Protection from viruses and threats (Shield Icon)\u003e Protection against viruses and other threats \u003e Turn off the two sliders. If you want to completely disable, then read below.

Step 1... In this tutorial, we will disable windows 10 defender using the registry editor. (It is advisable to turn it off before the procedure, as described above).

  • We press Win + R, we write regedit to enter system registry and go along the path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \\ SOFTWARE \\ Policies \\ Microsoft \\ Windows Defender

  1. Go to folder windows defender.
  2. Create a new value named DisableAntiSpyware and the value 1 .
  3. To create a value, right-click on an empty field and select Create a > DWORD parameter (32 bits).

The updated Windows Defender, which you can already use by default since Windows 8. Since the transition to Windows 10, I have completely forgotten about third parties, because Windows Defender, SmartScreen filter and firewall really do not badly protect the system. But still, many users do not like the new Windows 10 Defender at all.

Therefore, in this article we will look at how to disable Windows Defender Security Center 10. There are really many ways to do this now. It is also worth noting that in the latest builds operating system you need to disable Windows Defender Security Center, which did not exist in previous versions.

How to disable TS windows Defender Security Center (starting with versions 1703, 1709 and newer)

findings

As we said, after switching to Windows 10, we can even say that after switching to Windows 8.1, you can forget about third-party antivirus programs. Built-in Windows Defender enough with the head, but now it has been updated and become even better. Therefore, we do not recommend disabling it at all, because it is not how, but it is your protection.

For those who still decided to disable it, we looked at how to disable the Windows 10 Defender Security Center and its service in simple ways... In order to enable Windows Defender, you need to do everything in the reverse order.

I decided to write this article by starting a search for adequate materials about what services can be turned off in Windows 10 for faster performance operating system. On the Internet, as always, there are many different opinions. I studied them, generalized and tried to draw general conclusions. I will not advise which services can be unambiguously disabled. Much in this matter depends on the individual parameters of the computer, the needs and tastes of users. Personally, on my weak netbook with Windows 10, I turned off all the services listed below - otherwise it remained an insane brake (I wrote more about all the measures taken to overclock my netbook in the article Optimize and speed up Windows 10 on a weak computer). On a stationary computer, I preferred not to touch anything and leave all settings by default. You yourself must decide whether to completely disable any services that are running by default.

Some recommend creating a system restore point before experimenting with disabling services. Personally, I didn't. If only because it is not difficult for me, if I suddenly need it, clean install Windows 10.

In general, without extreme necessity it is better not to disable any services in Windows 10 ... This, in my opinion, can be done only when there are problems with low computer performance and it is very necessary to overclock it at least a little.

Let me briefly remind you how to get into these same Services: click with the RIGHT mouse button on the menu Start, select the item " Computer management", In the left column, double-click to open the item" Services and Applications", Then" Services". Disabling the service is done after double-clicking on it: in the item of the window that opens, select " Startup type: Disabled».

On my insanely weak netbook, I turned off the following services quite painlessly:

  • NVIDIA Stereoscopic 3D Driver Service - this service is for nVidia video cards (you may not have it if you use another video card). If you are not using 3D stereo images, this service can be turned off.
  • Windows Search - with the help of this service in Windows 10 and earlier versions, starting from the "seven", the search on the contents of the computer works. He is presented with the opportunity to find required files, folders and programs through a magnifying glass on the Control Panel, and also implemented as search string in any folder. In fact, indexing the contents of a computer can waste quite a lot of valuable resources, so if this functionality is not critical for you and you want to speed up the operating system, try disabling this search service.
  • Offline files - a service that allows you to autonomously work with files available on the internal (local) network. As I understand it, you can safely turn it off if the computer is not connected to any other network other than the Internet.
  • Biometric windows service - is used to process and store biometric data. In my opinion, everything is clear here: if we do not use fingerprint login or other biometric methods, we can safely turn it off.
  • Computer browser - is used to create a list of computers on the network and gives it to programs upon request. Again, this service is only needed in local network.
  • Windows firewall - protects your computer from unauthorized access from the Internet. If you have another firewall installed (for example, Comodo), feel free to disable it. In other cases, it is better not to touch it.
  • IP Helper - supports network protocol IPv6. It is not needed very often, but it is necessary to look specifically in each case individually. If, after turning it off, the Internet continues to work normally, then you do not need it.
  • Secondary login - Provides multiple logins to Windows. If there is only one, then you can safely turn it off.
  • Grouping network participants - organizes multi-user interaction in a peer-to-peer network. Simply put, it is needed if you have a local network or home group. Turn it off if there is none.
  • Print manager - a service that allows you to queue print jobs and provide interaction with the printer. If there are no printers, then you can turn it off.
  • Connection manager remote access - when you uninstall this service, the browser will not try to connect to the Internet when working with pages with updated elements. As I understand it, it is better not to disconnect.
  • Network Participant Identity Manager - used to identify participants in the local network. Turn it off if we don't use Homegroup.
  • Performance Logs and Alerts - this service, as the name implies, collects data on computer performance. You can turn it off.
  • CNG key isolation - needed for cryptographic processes, helps to securely store the user's private keys from running processes. I still figure out what it is and what it is eaten with.
  • Routing and remote access - Provides routing for organizations on-premises and global networks... If there is no local network, turn it off.
  • IPsec Key Modules - for Internet key exchange and authenticated IP. As I understand it, you can turn it off painlessly.
  • Configuring a Remote Desktop Server - Responsible for configuring and maintaining sessions for Remote Desktop Services and Remote Access. In the absence of a local network, disable it.
  • SSDP detection - enables discovery of UPnP devices on the home network. The need for this house is questioned by many experts. Better to turn it off.
  • Smart Card Removal Policy - if you are not using them (smart cards), disconnect.
  • Software Shadow Copy Provider (Microsoft) - can be turned off if you do not plan to use the system restore function.
  • Homegroup listener - if you are not using a homegroup, it is better to turn it off.
  • Working folders - used to synchronize folders on different devices... This allows them to be used on any computer where this service is enabled. You can turn it off.
  • Collector windows events - allows you to collect events from other computers. Turn off.
  • Server - if the function of access to shared files and printers, this service can be disabled.
  • Xbox Live Networking Service - Provides access to Xbox Live services. If you don't know what it is, turn it off.
  • Network login - Provides pass-through authentication. Not needed at home.
  • Tablet PC Input Service - Provides pen and ink functionality on tablets. We turn it off on ordinary computers.
  • Geographic location service - keeps track of the coordinates of the computer. You can turn it off.
  • Sensor data service - processes and stores information received from sensors installed on a PC.
  • Sensor service - manages sensors on a PC. Don't you understand what this is about? Turn off.
  • Download service windows images (WIA) - can be turned off if you do not plan to connect a scanner or camera to your computer.
  • Client License Service - ensures correct operation windows Store 10. Disable if not using it.
  • AllJoyn Router Service - as far as I understand, you can turn it off, but I will not give a guarantee.
  • SMS Router Service Microsoft Windows - carries out the forwarding of messages according to previously created rules. I understand.
  • Service general access to Net.Tcp ports - provides the ability to share TCP ports using the Net.Tcp protocol. If the computer is not used as a server, then you can safely turn it off.
  • Enumerator service portable devices - is responsible for the ability to synchronize and automatically play files from portable devices. It is rarely used, you can turn it off.
  • Service bluetooth support - everything is obvious. Disconnect if not in use.
  • Program Compatibility Assistant Service - monitors programs for compatibility issues. Such situations (incompatibility) are quite rare and even when they do appear, this service can rarely help. Turn off.
  • Registration service windows errors - in case of any failures, sends data about the error to Microsoft so that the company can fix it. It is quite possible to turn it off.
  • BitLocker Drive Encryption Service - makes it possible to encrypt disks. This function used very rarely by home users. You can turn it off if you don't understand why you need it at all, or you just don't use it.
  • Smart card - Provides access to smart card readers. If there are none, turn it off.
  • Volume shadow copy - creation backup content hard disk (eg, previous versions text files). If you do not plan to use recovery deleted files, turn off. It is also worth doing this because the service consumes a lot of valuable resources and is very slow to recover.
  • Remote registry - used to change registry settings by a remote user. On your home computer you should turn it off.
  • Application Identity - helps AppLocker identify locked apps. You can turn it off if AppLocker is not used or you do not know at all what kind of beast it is.
  • Diagnostic system node - just turn off this unnecessary thing.
  • Diagnostic Service Host - similar to the previous point.
  • fax machine - is responsible for the operation of the fax machine. If you do not have it, feel free to turn it off.
  • Performance Counter Library Host - that it never figured out. Many people write that it can be turned off painlessly.
  • Security Center - a service that monitors changes in the settings and security settings of Windows 10. In particular, it monitors antivirus software and firewall. If they are disabled or do not work correctly, this center issues a corresponding message to the user. You can turn it off.
  • Centre windows updates - well, everything is clear here without comment: the service is responsible for updating the Windows 10 operating system. Everyone decides whether to disable or not.

You can also turn off all services related to hardware rendering Hyper-V - they are designed to work virtual machines and are needed by units. Wherever you see the mention of Hyper-V in the name of a service, you can disable it.

Some services in the operating room windows system 10 appear when the user installs various programs. Many of them may also be unnecessary. But here everything is again very individual.

This article provides information about the Windows Defender Antivirus built into Windows 10 and how to configure it.

Here you can find detailed description, how to enable and disable this system tool, as well as see the results of comparing the "defender" with third-party antivirus programs.

Use the content to quickly find the Defender question that interests you.

What is Windows Defender. Its capabilities

Windows Defender (English Windows Defender) is an antivirus product from Microsoft, which was created specifically to find and eliminate malicious code on Windows OS.Windows Defender somewhat different from the usual free softwarethat simply scan files for viruses.

It consists of a whole set of special modules that constantly monitor the state of the system and its individual components. The features of this antivirus tool are as follows:

  • Protection from viruses and threatswhich helps to detect malicious code in programs launched with the OS, as well as to monitor system services and tools responsible for registering software;
  • Device health support, which monitors the relevance of updates, hardware drivers. This component also helps optimize operating system startup / shutdown and memory usage, increasing overall windows performance in many tasks;
  • Firewall and network securitythat troubleshoots network problems and protects your computer from outside attacks;
  • Application and browser managementallows you to protect your device from "exploits" and other malware when using the Internet.
Exploit (English exploit - to exploit) - one of the types of attacks designed to exploit vulnerabilities in programs (including system ones) available on the victim's computer in order to replenish malicious code that is designed to infect a computer with a virus or execute arbitrary commands, as well as changes in files and system parameters without the user's knowledge.Each of the defender's features can be configured at any time using the tool: Windows Defender Security Center. This section is in parameters computer (shown in the figure below).

Figure 1. Opening Windows Defender settings.
Windows Defenderis originally installed in Windows 10 and starts protecting the user immediately after the first start of the computer.
However, this built-in protection has some drawbacks and is sometimes inferior to many third-party antiviruses.

Some flaws in the system antivirus

Unfortunately built into Windows defender does not fully guarantee protection against malware.

Windows Defenderhas a number of drawbacks, but in general, with each update, the work of the antivirus only improves. The main problems will be listed below Windows Defenderthat hinder full computer security:

  • Weak protection against " phishing "(one of the types of Internet fraud, the purpose of which is to obtain important user data: logins, passwords, card numbers, by creating copies of popular sites);
  • Mediocre function of blocking sites containing malware. Be careful when visiting suspicious web pages.
For active internet users, this security measure is likely to be insufficient. Despite this, real-time scanning algorithms and searching for malicious code in files from Windows Defender pretty good.

In the next chapter, you will be able to evaluate the performance of Microsoft's software protection against third-party antivirus software.

Do you need Windows Defender? Comparison with popular antiviruses

In this chapter, three antiviruses, including Windows Defender, will have a very difficult task - to scan an archive with a collection of a large number of viruses. Attention!
Do not under any circumstances repeat the tests that you will see below in order to avoid infecting your system with virus programs.

Further experiment was carried out on a separate disk space in a virtual machine environment with installed Windows 10 and has little to do with the actual operating conditions of the computer.
Despite this, such a test poses antivirus software in "Stressful" situation and shows the level of protection. The test will be performed using the following antivirus software:

  • Built in system Windows Defender;
  • Shareware Eset nod 32;
  • Completely free Avast.
During the experiment, an archive consisting exclusively of viruses will be scanned. The number of threats found will reflect the quality of the program's work according to the principle: "more is better."

Let's get started.

Antivirus testing process: Windows Defender, NOD 32, Avast

For greater objectivity, all anti-virus programs were manually updated.

It should also be mentioned that all protections work separately from each other.

The test was carried out 03.11.2017 , and in the figure below you can see information about the relevance of updates for each of the antiviruses (respectively, Windows Defender, Eset nod 32and Avast).

Figure 2. Updating the databases of all antiviruses.
Now let's start checking the archive using it context menu, called with the right mouse button, and select compulsoryscanning the file for viruses.
Each of the programs was scanned by 3798 identical elements that are malicious.

Number of threats found:

  • Windows Defenderdiscovered 3674 virus;
  • Eset nod 32discovered 3622 virus;
  • Avastdiscovered 3352 virus.

Figure 3. We look at the number of threats found.
Of course, this testing is not a real indicator of the level of protection of your computer. Third-party antiviruses, for example, are much better at blocking suspicious sites, preventing threats from the outside.

In the next chapter, you can learn how to disable Windows Defender if you need to install a different security software.

Disable Windows Defender temporarily (until reboot)

Attention!
The information in this chapter is intended only for users who have not installed none third party program ensuring security.

Installing any antivirus will entail automatic shutdown defender, therefore, no additional action is required in this case.

Temporarily disable system antivirus in the Windows Defender Security Center window.

This requires:

  1. Click on the menu "Start" right click -\u003e open "Options" ;
  2. Enter query: "defender" in the search bar of the opened window → select the item ;
  3. Further in the tab Protection from viruses and threats(shield icon) you need to click on "Protection against viruses and other threats" ;
Now in the window that appears, you can disable any of the security features.

Figure 4. Configuring real-time protection.
Antivirus protection will be automatically restored after a restart to keep your computer safe.
If you need finally disable Windows Defender - see the instructions below.

Disable Windows Defender completely

Be careful!
It is recommended to completely disable System Security Center only after installing third-party antivirus software.
Otherwise, the security of your computer will be compromised.
You can permanently disable the built-in system protection using registry editor(regedit).
To do this, perform the following steps in order:
  1. Open the menu "Search" (the second icon in the lower left corner) → enter the query in the corresponding line: "Regedit" →run the found program with the left mouse button;
Figure 5. Launching the registry editor.
  1. In the window that opens, using the navigation on the left side of the screen, go to the section: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \\ SOFTWARE \\ Policies \\ Microsoft \\ Windows Defender" ;
  2. Create a "Parameter Dword (32 bits)" With name DisableAntiSpyware(if absent). This can be done by right-clicking on the free space on the right side and selecting the appropriate item;
  3. Open the appeared parameter with a quick double click of the mouse → change "Value": 0 on 1 → save the settings with "OK".
Figure 6. Editing the value of the DisableAntiSpyware parameter.
Done.Now you need to close the registry editor and restart your computer. If necessary, the work of the defender can be restored. To do this, you just need to change the newly created value back to «0» .

Removing an icon from the system tray (notification area)

The file called.
This program can be disabled in the parameters autoloading without any consequences.

Run task Manager (using the shortcut Ctrl + Alt + Delete) and do the following:

    ;
  1. Click on the line "Windows Defender notification icon" right click -\u003e select action "Disable" .

Figure 7. Disable the start of the process with the launch of the OS.
Done!
The changes will take effect after you restart your computer.

Icon Windows Defenderwill not be shown in the notification area until you enable the corresponding program back to the OS startup.

Enabling and configuring Windows Defender

Default, Windows Defenderconfigured for maximum system protection. However, sometimes when you try to run this antivirus program, you may see an application shutdown message local group policy ... Any defender settings are also inactive, although third-party antiviruses are not installed on the computer. There are two ways to solve this problem:

  • Editinglocal Group Policy (Windows 10 Professional only)
  • Editing the registry with the subsequent change in the value of starting the system security service;
If you have Windows 10 Home installed on your computer, skip to the chapter:.

Enabling Windows Defender by Editing Local Group Policy

note... This method works only on professional versions of the system (Professional), since local group policy is simply not available in Windows 10 Home.To run Windows Defender, you must:
  1. Open the menu "Search" (next to the Start icon) → enter a request: "Gpedit.msc" →launch the corresponding program by clicking the left mouse button;
  2. In the local group policy window that opens, go to the section Windows Components \\ Endpoint Protection(or Windows Defender Antivirus);
  3. Find parameter Disable Endpoint Protection and watch it state (if you see the value "Enabled", double-click on the corresponding line with the left mouse button);
  4. Set value "Disabled" "OK" .
Figure 8. Turn on "Endpoint Protection".
In most cases, the problem will be resolved and you can start the service Windows Defendermanually.

Enabling Windows Defender through Registry Editor

The way to enable system protection through the registry editor is the opposite of the way to disable it.
Check out the subheading: « Complete shutdown Windows Defender ", follow the instructions.

You just need to change the value "one" on «0» and restart your computer.
Next, you can seamlessly enable Windows Defender using the appropriate option in parameters OS.

Configuring Windows Defender exclusions

If you are sure of the safety of files in which the system anti-virus sees a threat for some reason, add them to windows Defender exclusions.

You can exclude not only an individual folder or file, but also:

  • Any running process;
  • A separate file type with a selected extension (.exe, .msi, etc.).
To addany of these exceptions, you need:
  1. Open Windows Defender Security Center , which is in the system search;
  2. Click on item "Protection from viruses and threats" ;
  3. Find and select "Adding and Removing Exceptions" ;
  4. Press the button with the sign «+» → add the exception you are interested in.

Figure 9. Adding the required exceptions.
Done.
Now Windows Defender will ignore the file, folder, extension, or process that you specified. Note!
The exception applies to all subfolders located in the directory that was removed from the scanning algorithm.

What to do if Windows Defender won't turn on

Sometimes the "defender" does not start even in the absence of third-party antiviruses. A detailed solution to this problem is indicated in the following subheadings:
Careful reading of these instructions will help you to get rid of many of the crashes in this software.

A simple method for resolving error 577

Mostly this error occurs after uninstalling third party antivirus software.

If you are faced with error 577, do the following:

  1. Restart your computer, if you haven't done so after uninstalling the antivirus;
  2. Discover "Search" (next to the Start menu) → enter the query without quotes: "Wscui.cpl" → press the key "Enter" on keyboard;
  3. In the window that appears, expand "Security" → run "Virus protection" using the button "Enable" .
Done.
