Disk drill created a disk image. Recovering media information with Disk Drill

The utility, which we will now talk about, simply must be present on everyone's computer. This amazing application is able to recover previously accidentally or specially erased files from your hard drive. Disk Drill is considered the best tool for getting back the data you want in almost two clicks.

How to get back a deleted file on Mac?

If for some reason you have erased the files you need from your Mac device, you need to install Disk Drill first. This program is designed for just such cases. It is able to identify deleted data and, with the user's choice, return it to the initial state... The program is able to find deleted files on MMC, USB-Flash, HDD and other electronic information storage media. It is possible to define previously deleted departments and return them to their previous state.
You do not need to study the program, because the first time you start you will be presented with a training slideshow, by watching which you will understand the basic principles of operation and functionality of the Disk Drill utility, which will be enough to start using the application fully.

Let's step by step the principle of recovery using Disk Drill utility on Mac
1. Download the latest version on the manufacturer's website. There are two versions of the utility - free and pro version. If you need an additional kit, choose the second option, if you only plan to recover deleted data, the free one will be enough.
2. If data needs to be restored to removable media, connect the device before starting the utility.
3. Launch Disk Drill and search for the desired drive. Depending on the size of the device and the number of files on it, the scan time may increase.

4. Now you can specify desired folders what you want to return.

This is how Disk Drill data recovery works on a Mac device.
In addition, Disk Drill has an integrated Recovery Vault technology, which increases the likelihood of recovering previously deleted data on a hard drive or removable media. When the Recovery Vault function is activated, the attributes of system and service files will be saved on the dedicated storage.

File recovery with Disk Drill on Windows OS

Is functioning Disk application Drill on Windows is as good as on Mac, without any errors. To start restoring the necessary data, you must first download and install the software. We go on. And click on the hefty green button with the intriguing title "Download".

Installing the program - nothing unusual - keep pressing the "Next" button. After installation, the program icon will appear on the desktop. Then, connect removable devices to the computer on which you plan to return data. Then you need to start the software (click on the icon) and the interface opens.

The program immediately identified all the carriers. We start recovery on a USB flash drive. Click on the arrow to the right of the "Recover" button to the right of the USB Device label. The context menu falls out

Several scanning options will be available to you:

  • Run all recovery methods
  • Deep Scan
  • Universal partition search.

Let's try Run all recovery methods. Scanning started. The operating time of the software will depend on the scanning mode, disk size and amount of data.

The utility found 176 (!) deleted files, shows the location WHERE the data can be saved (of course, the save location can be changed). We press the button "RECOVER"

When the scan is complete, you need to check the boxes next to those files that you want to return or just restore all data without exceptions. Then Disk Drill will ask you to specify the path where you want to save them and as a result, you will receive the previously deleted data in a separate folder.

The program itself will create the necessary folders by category: pictures, videos, documents, audio and archives.

Let's analyze a specific recovery case

After the scan is complete, look at the left side of the program and select the type of recovery data. For example, you are interested in video files. To do this, click on the left on "Video" and on the right click on the small cross (to open the folder of found videos)

A folder opens. Files with AVI and MP4 extensions found. For example, check the first file. By the way, pay attention to the names of the files - they do not match the names of the deleted ones.

Press the RECOVER button (by the way, note that in the example, the data will be restored to drive D). But, ATTENTION! The recovered video file will be located at D: \ Video \ avi. the program will create a Video folder on the disk (what was restored?) and an AVI folder in it (which extension did you choose?)

As you can see, everything is quite simple. With Disk Drill, you can easily recover deleted data from a Mac device or a Windows computer.

Each of us had such situations when we could not find a certain file, and then sadly remembered that it was deleted. And if data recovery on a PC running Windows and Mac OS is an ordinary matter, then not everyone can cope with data recovery from a smartphone. It's not that hard when you use the Disk Drill app.

Disk Drill is a cross-platform fast recovery app different types data from popular sources of information. The program has existed for several months, many users have already fallen in love, and after a recent update it has also acquired support for mobile devices. Accordingly, it allows you to recover lost information from gadgets based on OS Android and iOS. We are naturally interested in the first option, but we will not forget to mention other key features of the utility.

I must say right away that Disk Drill is paid application and costs from $ 49. However, on the official website of the developers there is also free version applications. It has almost all the same functions, at least data from smartphones can be recovered without any problems, but the amount of data recovered is limited to 500 MB.

To recover data from any android device, we need a full-fledged computer with the Disk Drill utility installed, a USB cable and a patient - mobile device with lost data. Further, a matter of technology.

Launch Disk Drill, connect your mobile to your PC and scan the connected gadget. No preparation required and additional programs... The only thing is that you must have USB debugging enabled on your smartphone in the settings.

During the scanning process, we will see all kinds of files for recovery, they will be grouped by types, such as: photos, videos, documents, etc. The program allows you to recover almost all files, so that they have ever been on our device and have not yet been "overwritten".

If Disk Drill didn’t find the files we needed the first time, then we recommend using a deep scan. It will last longer, but its result should certainly please you.

When restoring a file, you can preview it if it is a picture, and also listen if it is an audio file. And if we need some specific file, you can use search and various sorting options.

In a similar way, you can recover files from an iPhone, and from USB drives, and from other devices, which makes the utility very functional and quite useful in everyday life. Everything is as simple as possible, understandable and without unnecessary problems.

In the settings of Disk Drill data recovery utility, you can select (enable or disable) certain types of formats for scanning. This will be necessary when searching for a specific type of file, so that the program concentrates its attention on it.

Disk Drill is a very simple, functional and hassle-free software that allows you to ROOT rights and other serious stuff to recover files from Android smartphones-tablets and removable storage devices.

Or Arq, Mac users never face the problem of data loss, because at any time you can recover a particular file. But there is another category of users who believe that OS X is much more reliable than Windows, and they are insured against unexpected data loss. So it is, in principle, it is, but now the user is responsible for all deleted files, who could accidentally delete important information. And if such a case has come, then the utility will be able to recover the deleted data.

In contact with

Start

At the first launch, you will be prompted to customize the program to suit your needs. Maximum data recovery results are guaranteed with all Disk Drill modules running until the data is lost. More detailed work you can find out about their purpose and functioning by tapping on the icons with a question mark.

And there will also be an offer to study the manual. The main problem is that the local guide is not translated into Russian at all, and when using the program, you may notice flaws in localization.

Interface

V latest versions The interface has been greatly redesigned and is significantly different from what you can see in the outdated reviews and videos. The design has become more minimalistic, and when you launch the application, your eyes no longer run all over the window in search of the right button, and there were quite a few of them.

Find and recover data on Mac OS X

Now everything is simple - choose system disk(external, USB flash drive, SD card, and so on) and press the search button, after which a long scan occurs (120 GB SSD on a 13-year-old MacBook was scanned in 15 minutes).

Supports everything not only up-to-date, but also quite outdated file systems... HFS / HFS +, FAT16 / FAT32, NTFS, EXT3, EXT4 and other formats are not scary for the program.

After finishing the scan, the utility will show all existing and reconstructed files. The recovered files will be presented not in the folders in which they were before deletion, but in categories depending on the file type: images, documents, videos, and so on.

But the whole situation is saved by the built-in search with a filter:

  • keywords;
  • data type;
  • approximate size;
  • the period in which the file was deleted.

Works with all popular data formats, from simple video files (AVI, M4V, MKV, MOV) or Final Cut Pro files to contact databases (ABCDDB), disc images (XML, DMG) and others.

We select the files you are interested in and save them to disk or mount them as a disk in the system. It's that simple! The scanning session will be saved and in the future the file search will be faster.

We gave an example of deep scanning, but this is far from the only mode of data retrieval:

  • A quick scan is an ideal tool for identifying recently deleted data. Scanning takes 10-20 seconds.

  • Deep scan - allows you to search not only for individual partitions, but also scan the entire disk. The procedure is quite long and you can't get off with brewing tea. The method is used if a quick scan did not give any results.
  • Universal search for partitions - allows you to find and recover a partition of a deleted disk.

  • Finding a lost HFS partition.

To increase the efficiency of search and data recovery, it will not be superfluous to refer to the tabs " Types" and " List”In Disk Drill preferences.

In them, you can configure exclusions for search and display, so you can cut off the lion's share of unnecessary information.

Data protection

It's great when you can recover accidentally deleted data, but it's much better to take care of protecting your information in advance. Information will be guarded by two protection modes:

  • Recovery Vault- thanks to this mode in special section Disk Drill will store all the attributes of the deleted data. It is possible to restore any deleted file, provided that no system data is written in its place (it is advisable to restore it immediately after the information is lost). The uniqueness of the mode lies in the fact that it is not backup files and disk space will not be mercilessly consumed. The function is relevant for MacBooks with a small amount of onboard memory.

  • Warranty restoration- classic mode, in which deleted files are backed up to a separate location. There are many attributes for more detailed customization (exclusion masks, minimum file size, storage time and space size). Ideal for those with a large enough hard drive.

Versions and cost

There are several versions of Disk Drill available at different prices and with different functionality:

  • Drill Disk Basic (free)- there is no way to recover files. The demo version of the product allows you to test the functionality of the program in a limited amount.
  • Disk Drill Pro ($ 89 / $ 44.5)- fully functional version of the program. It costs $ 89, but there is a 50% discount for residents of the post-Soviet space. Both amounts are sky-high, but when it comes to missing files (and some of them can be priceless), you can give it back without hesitation.
  • Drill Disk Enterprise ($ 399)- corporate version for an unlimited number of users and computers. Ideal for startups and large campaigns.
  • Disk Drill Media Recovery ($ 39.99)- limited version available via Mac App Store... Due to strict Apple policy, the program cannot receive full access to hard drive partitions and as a result, the Recovery Vault system does not work. Files and folders are restored without problems.

conclusions

Disk Drill is one of the best utilities for data recovery, allowing you to recover great amount information and protect existing data from most emergency situations. The disadvantages include only the price, but this parameter is subjective. It all depends on how valuable the files are at stake.

P. S .: You must uninstall Disk Drill directly from the program window ( SettingsGeneralRemove Disk Drill).

The procedure for recovering deleted data after emptying the recycle bin, formatting or deleting a disk partition has long been no longer a kind of super task that only computer specialists can cope with. Anyone can try to get back their deleted data today, more or less advanced user after understanding the work of special programs for file recovery. Fortunately, there are more and more such people, and they are designed not only for IT professionals, but also for ordinary people. The range of software programs for recovering user data such as Wise Data Recovery, Toolwiz File Recovery and Recuva from Piriform that already existed on the market of software has been relatively recently replenished with one more product - Disk program Drill. About it, in fact, will be discussed further. In this article, we'll talk about the specifics of Disk Drill, and also look at how to work with this program.

1.About Disk Drill

Disk Drill is still a new product in the Windows data recovery software market, but it is far from new on the market. software for the operating room Mac systems OS. With only one drawback in the form of lack of support for the Russian language, Disk Drill has a lot of advantages. Among them - free use, simple and intuitive interface, product-level functionality for professional use.

Disk Drill for Windows can be downloaded for free from its official website.

Disk Drill can recover deleted files from disks - just like from regular ones hard drives, and from SSD-drives, from flash drives and SD-memory cards. Whether it is emptying the trash can, whether it is reinstalling windows to a formatted system partition, whether it is completely deleting a disk partition - in all these cases, the program will try to help with recovering deleted photos, documents, the contents of a personal media library, archives, and other files. If the files were deleted not too long ago, if they have not already been overwritten by other data, the chances of successful recovery can be quite high.

In addition, the program can offer additional function Recovery Vault is a feature designed to ensure and simplify the file recovery process.

Despite the free distribution, Disk Drill, at the level of paid serious software, can perform data recovery on generated by the program itself is a DMG image of a disk partition or removable storage. This helps prevent damage to data on the physical medium.

2. Start scanning of deleted files

The developers of Disk Drill, apparently, had a tough task to create the most simple product for the layman. Having launched the program, in its window we will see the partition table hard disk and connected external storage devices. There will be three buttons for the main functions of the program next to each partition of the disk and device. The first and most striking of them is "Recover", a button to start the process of scanning deleted files on a selected disk partition or external media. But we will not rush to press it, since by default this button launches all software methods of data recovery. It is more expedient to search for deleted files by applying separate recovery methods. They are available in the drop-down list next to the "Recover" button. By clicking this list, we will see the following options:

  • Run all recovery methods- this is the same as pressing the "Recover" button, ie, starting the file recovery process using all methods;
  • Undelete protected date- cancellation of deleting files within the framework of the Recovery Vault function;
  • Quick scan- launching a quick scan of deleted files;
  • Deep scan- launching a deep scan of deleted files.

We select "Quick scan".

Why "Quick scan"? If, for example, a file has been deleted recently, it makes no sense to use a deep scan, as most likely, such a file will be found during the quick scan. To simplify and speed up the process of recovering deleted data, it is better to start Undoing File Deletion first. Naturally, this will be in the future, when the Recovery Vault function will be active. Then you need to resort to a quick scan, which, in fact, was chosen in our case, since Disk Drill has just been installed in the system and Recovery Vault is unlikely to this moment can do something to help. And only if, after the completion of the quick scan, the necessary deleted files are not found, you can start a deep scan and get distracted by your business. Since deep scanning is a lengthy process, the program provides for its pause and start of the continuation in the future, even after restarting the computer.

3. Recovering deleted files

After launching a quick and deep scan in the program window, we will gradually observe the process of finding deleted data. In the "All files" tab, active by default, we will see all the files found. You can narrow the search area for the desired deleted files by switching to other vertical tabs on the left side of the program window, where data will be filtered by individual file types - pictures, video, audio, documents, archives. Required file you can try to find it by entering a key query in the search field at the top left.

You can also search for files in the list found by Disk Drill based on size or deletion date. There are two corresponding options for this at the bottom left.

In the process of searching, for example, the desired deleted pictures and photos, you can use the option to preview them.

By default, in Disk Drill, the folder where the recovered files will be placed is assigned to the Documents folder on drive C. This path can be changed.

Having checked the necessary folders and files for recovery, press the "Recover" button.

We confirm the decision.

If the restoration is successful, we will see such a window.

4. Recovery Vault function

When you activate the Recovery Vault feature, Disk Drill will track all deleted files and capture their metadata for quick and successful recovery. To activate the Recovery Vault function, in the main window of the program, next to the desired partition of the disk or removable media, press the "Protect" button.

Let's go to the settings window for this function. We expose the switch at the top right to the "On" position. Expanding the "Choose folders to protect" option, we will see the preinstalled folders that already fall under the protection of the Recovery Vault function. You can expand this list by adding your own folders or entire disk partitions and removable media using the "Add folder" button.

The option below “Choose files to exclude from protection” is a list of file types that will not be protected by the Recovery Vault feature. Some types of exceptions are already defined here system files... Using the "Add exclusion mask" button, you can add your own file types. You need to register them according to the sample of the preinstalled file types.

As mentioned, you can recover deleted files from folders protected by the Recovery Vault function using the "Undelete protected date" option in the drop-down list next to the "Recover" button in the main program window.

Have a great day!

Data recovery task is solved special programs with which the user can make an attempt to recover the lost files. Why try? Because it is not always possible to recover files if the files are damaged or completely overwritten. This must be taken into account.

Disk Drill PRO for Windows- a special free version of the program for the Windows operating system. Disk Drill is well known to Mac OS X users. There are two versions of the application available for Mac OS X: the free Disk Drill Basic and the paid Disk Drill PRO.

Disk Drill has three recovery modes:

  • Undelete - cancels deleting files from a disk or media protected with Recovery mode Vailt

Disk Drill PRO works in operating rooms Windows systems 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, XP. You can download Disk Drill from the official website of the manufacturer: the American company CleverFiles.

Disk Drill interface

Once launched, Disk Drill detects all disks on your computer for a while: hard drives, external drives connected to the computer. Disk Drill has a very simple English interface.

Disk Drill's main window displays a list of disks this computer: HDD, external drives connected to the computer: flash drives, external hard disks, memory cards, etc. Opposite each disk there is a “Recover” button, then there is an arrow to enter the context menu, with additional recovery options.

For protection this disk, using the “Protect” button, the “Recovery Vailt” mode is used. Using the "Extras" button, you can create a disk image in DMG format, in order to recover data from the image, and not directly from the computer disk.

Disk Drill data recovery

Close all programs currently running on your computer before restoring. When restoring, save the data on another disk to increase the chances of a positive result. Remember that it is not always possible to recover files, because the files can be damaged or completely overwritten.

It is especially difficult to recover large files due to disk fragmentation. Fragments large file located in different places on the disc. After deleting the file, new data is written in place of the fragments. Therefore, data recovery software often cannot recover the entire file. Monitor the health of your computer, perform regularly.

Select a computer drive, or an external drive for file recovery. A computer hard drive can have multiple partitions. In order not to scan the entire hard disk, but to immediately select the desired partition, click on the triangle-shaped button located to the right of the disk name. Select the desired hard disk partition.

To start file recovery, click on the "Recover" button, in this case, all recovery methods will be used. If you need to select the recovery mode yourself, click on the arrow located near the "Recover" button. In the opened context menu select the action you want:

  • Run all recovery methods - run all recovery methods (default)
  • Undelete protected data - cancel deleting files using Recovery Vault mode
  • Quick Scan - quick scan
  • Deep Scan - deep scan

After selecting the method, the search for deleted data on the selected disk will start. For scanning, I chose external USB stick(USB flash drive). The status of the scanning process is displayed on the panel in the program window.

Disk Drill will display a list of detected files that are located in folders. Scanning can be stopped using the "Pause" button, or canceled by pressing the "Cansel" button. The "Save Sessions" button saves the data about the scanning session.

If the disk being scanned is large, the scanning process will take a long time.

After the scan is complete, you will see the folders with the found files in the program window. By default, a list of all found files (All files) is displayed. The results can be filtered by file type: pictures (Pictures), video (Video), documents (Documents), audio (Audio), archives (Archives), by size (… by size), or by date (… by date).

Unfortunately, not all files can be recovered, or completely restored. This must be taken into account when restoring information.

Click on the magnifying glass to view the file. You will see the files to be restored, for example, images, in the viewer.

For example, this image can be restored without problems.

Disk Drill can recover an entire file folder, or just separate files... In the Disk Drill window, mark individual files or folders to recover data.

I selected the "Pictures" folder with images. By default, the program saves the recovered data to the “Documets” folder of the user profile. If necessary, you can change the directory for saving recovered files. To do this, click on the button in the form of a folder, which is located on the panel, opposite "Recover to:".

To start the recovery process and save data, click on the "Recover" button on the panel.

After completing the recovery process, go to the "Documents" folder (or to another folder). The Pictures folder contains folders named after the image format, in this case “jpg”. Opening the folder, you will see the recovered pictures.

Using Recovery Vault Mode

When using the Recovery Vailt mode, all files on the disk are indexed, the location of all fragments is recorded. This mode significantly speeds up and increases the chances of successful data recovery.

To enter Recovery Vailt mode, click on the “Protect” button, which is located opposite desired disk(hard drive, removable media, etc.).

After that, a window will open in which you can enable or disable the Recovery Vailt mode, using the buttons: "ON" and "OFF".

You will see two options in the window:

  • Choose folder to protect - select a folder to protect
  • Choose files to exclude from protection - select files to exclude from protection

Using the “Add folder” button, you can add files for protection. By default, some folders are added for protection in Recovery Vailt mode. You can delete a folder from the protected list using the “Delete” button.

In a similar way, you can add files to exclusions that do not need to be protected from deletion. Some settings have been added to this option as well.

After clicking on the "Reset to defaults" button, you can reset the settings of the Recovery Vailt mode to default, in each option separately.

To go to the main window from the Recovery Vailt mode, click on the "Back" button.

Conclusions of the article
