Windows 8 recovery disc. What is needed to create a bootable disk

Windows 8 Is the penultimate version of the system released by Microsoft today. As we expected, after the "Seven" we got the "Eight". And of course we need to learn install Windows 8 to dive into the mastery of this latest operating system. I propose to do this today.

Let's consider the whole process Windows installations 8, how it differs from installations of other versions of "Windows" and so on. But before getting down to business, you need to naturally announce the system requirements. It's simple!

To install windows 8 we need:

so that the processor has a clock frequency of at least 1 GHz
free hard disk space 20 GB or more
DirectX 9 support

In other words, if you previously had the "Seven" installed, then you should not bother with system requirements. Latest Windows 8 will work fine for you.

1. Where to get a disk with Windows 8

You can buy the program in a store or on the Internet. If you are from the network, then most likely you will have an uploaded image that you will need to write to blank disc... How this is done, I told in the lesson:. If this information is relevant for you, then read it, everything is very simple there.

2. We put in BIOS boot from disk

In this article I will tell you how to create a recovery disc with the Windows 8 operating system. It can be useful to you in several cases: in case of failures and unstable operation of the computer, if the computer or laptop does not start at all, if you need to go to safe mode.

On a computer or laptop, move the mouse cursor to the upper right corner and select "Search" in the side pop-up panel.

In the search box, enter the phrase Recovery disc.

The search results will be shown on the left. Click on the icon "Create a recovery disc".

Now we need a disk or flash drive with a volume of at least 256 MB. Insert the selected device into your computer.

A recovery disc is created using a wizard. In the next window, click Next. If you bought a computer or laptop with Windows 8 preinstalled, then the device has a recovery partition. In this case, the field Copy the recovery partition from the computer to the recovery drive will be active. If you wish, you can put a tick in it, then files from this section will be copied to the disk or USB flash drive. Just keep in mind that you will need more free space on your removable device. For example, you will need to take a USB flash drive with at least 16 GB.

We select the USB flash drive connected to the computer. If you want to create a CD, then do not connect a USB flash drive, but insert a disc into the drive, then there will be an item below "Create a system repair disc on CD or DVD instead"... Click "Next".

The wizard will warn you that all data from the device will be deleted. If the flash drive contains important files, it is better to interrupt the disc creation and copy all files to a safe place. Click Create.

Wait for the wizard to finish the formatting process and copy all the necessary data to the USB flash drive.

This completes the process and the Windows 8 recovery disc is ready.

If you have any problems with the operation of the operating system, then using the recovery disk, you can restore the working state of Windows 8. To do this, you will need to change the boot priority in the BIOS to boot from a USB flash drive or disk, and then select the desired menu options.

I also wrote about how to change the boot priority in the BIOS in the article Installing Windows 8. Follow the link and read about this for more information.

With the help of the created recovery disc, you can also enter Safe Mode. For many users, this will be very useful, since in Windows 8 it is not always possible to do this by pressing F8 or Shift + F8 as usual.

If Windows 8 does not start on the computer at all, then you can create a recovery disc on a friend's computer, with the operating system we need installed. In this case, the disk or flash drive from which you installed can also help operating system.

Rate article:

The need to install or reinstall the operating system can be for various reasons. In my case, this is a failure hard disk (HDD fell down). To replace it, a new SSD was bought - a disk and, accordingly, he needed an operating system. Installation took place on a laptop Acer ASPIRE V3-771G-736b8G1TMaii.

System Requirements

First, let's go over the basic computer or laptop requirements for installing Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.

Windows 8

If you want to use on your Windows computer 8, you will need:

    Graphics card:

Windows 8.1

If you want to use Windows 8.1 on your computer, you will need:

Processor: 1 GHz or faster with PAE, NX and SSE2 support

    RAM: 1 GB (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit)

Free space on hard disk: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 with WDDM driver

Preparing the image

Microsoft has taken care of the users and now you can download a clean image of the Windows 8 and 8.1 operating system. This is very convenient and now you do not need to download any left-handed assemblies from torrents and other sites, so as not to infect your computer with viruses.

Let's start preparing an image of the Windows operating system. Follow the link to the Microsoft website and click "Create Media".

To start downloading you need to save this file on computer. After downloading, run the mediacreationtool utility and select the language, the operating system release is Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows Professional, the architecture is 64 or 32 bit. Click "Next".

Creating a bootable flash drive or disk

The next step is to choose a bootable device - USB stick or DVD - disk.

Choosing a location to save the installation file

  • If you select a USB flash drive, the program will require a blank flash drive of at least 4 GB. If there are any files on the flash drive, they will be deleted! The utility itself will create and write an image of the system to your USB flash drive without any additional programs.
  • If you want to make a bootable disc, then select the second item ISO file. The program will first download ISO image and then requires a blank disk in order to make it bootable and capture the system image.

Well. The boot devices are ready and you can start installing. I'll use bootable USB drive volume of 8 GB.

BIOS setup

In BIOS, you need to set the boot priority so that it goes not from the hard disk, but from a flash drive or disk. To do this, we need to go to the "Boot" tab. Now for the most interesting and most important thing.

If you have a bootable disk with an operating system, then we put it in the first place (USB CDROM).

If you have a bootable flash drive, then we put it in the first place (USB HDD), using the F6 key.

After that, we save the parameters and exit the BIOS by pressing the F10 key.

Installation

We put a tick “I accept the terms of the license” and click “Next”.

License agreement

We select "Update: install Windows while saving files, settings and applications."

Compatibility report

After that, on the computer you will see the "Install" button, click on it.

Installation error

Attention! If on this stage an error occurred and when installing Windows 8 it requires a driver, then we reconnect the boot device with the OS and we reach the point with the choice of installation. Choosing "Custom: Windows Install Only"!

Next, you need to select the section on which the installation will be performed. Click "OK" and the operating system starts to install. In the process, she may ask for a license key, but in my case this did not happen.

We are waiting for the installation to complete, we make a Wi-Fi connection, enter all the data that Windows 8 asks for and that's it! Installation completed.

Do not forget to return the BIOS settings! You need to put your hard drive in the first place so that the operating system is loaded from it.

We put the boot from the hard disk HDD

This completes the installation of the Windows 8 operating system and you can start using it!

Windows 8 and 8.1 operating systems allow you to create a bootable recovery disc regular means... It is a regular USB stick that boots on Wednesday Windows recovery(that is, a limited diagnostic mode), which allows you to repair the startup, file system, or fix other problems due to which the operating system or works with tangible problems.

A boot disk for Windows OS is useful in that it will help you to run System Restore, update the system and reset the computer to its original - working - parameters.

It should be noted, however, that the disc or media cannot be used to install Windows. At the same time, the boot disk is very similar to the one used to restore Windows 7.

A recovery disc (USB) or a system recovery disc (for CD / DVD version, available in Windows 8 only) is for those who do not have an official boot disk Windows 8 / 8.1.

I strongly recommend that you create a disk or USB flash drive for system recovery before getting into an unpleasant situation - if you cannot start Windows 8 or 8.1, you can easily and playfully return the OS to a working state using the prepared kit.

Be aware that a 32-bit (x86) recovery disc can be used to repair a 32-bit Windows versions 8 / 8.1. Accordingly, the 64-bit (x64) edition of the recovery disc only works with 64-bit Windows 8 / 8.1.

On the positive side, you can repair any edition Microsoft Windows 8 / 8.1 from this disc if it is for the same hardware architecture (32-bit or 64-bit). One final note: don't try to use a Windows 8.1 recovery disc to reanimate Windows 8 and vice versa!

Requirements for creating a bootable Windows 8 / 8.1 disc or a system recovery disc

First, make sure you have a blank CD / DVD (this is only a requirement for Windows environment 8) or a USB drive with a minimum size of 256 MB (megabytes) of the total disk space. Many OEM computers have strictly individual recovery partitions - they can require up to 32 gigabytes of disk space on the recovery drive.

CD or DVD disc in Windows 8 should be really blank because the program won't be able to write data to rewritable media. You can erase the contents of a CD or DVD by opening My Computer (Windows Key + E), right-clicking on the CD / DVD drive emblem in the list, and choosing Erase This Disc.

A USB drive can be a simple portable flash drive or hard drive with a similar USB interface. Please note that this hard drive will be formatted and you will lose all files on it. Therefore, it will not be superfluous to do backup all important files! Be careful. If remove valuable files, they will have to be restored (on the resuscitation of the flash drive to the site).

After creating the recovery disc, you need to make sure that your computer is able to boot normally. Some older USB sticks do not support booting. Also, do not forget to check the boot order of the computer in BIOS in order to make sure that booting from USB devices is enabled and is listed before booting hard drives.

If your computer is equipped with USB interfaces 2.0 and USB 3.0 or later, plug the recovery disc into a USB 2.0 port - this may fix some boot problems.

Creating a bootable Windows recovery USB drive

To start creating a bootable disk, open the search settings by using the Windows key + W keys and type "Recovery" in the search box. Click on "Create a recovery disc".

As expected, the User Account Control window appears. Click the "Yes" button to make sure you know what you are doing.

You will see the "Create a recovery disc" window. First, check the "Copy the contents of the recovery partition to disk" checkbox. Then plug in your USB drive, wait about 10 seconds and click Next.

If you cannot enable the option "Copy the contents of the recovery partition to the recovery drive" when creating a recovery drive in Windows 8 or 8.1, you need to copy windows installer instll.wim to your hard drive, or SSD drive... Note that this will increase the default available space on the recovery drive from 256MB to 4GB, respectively.

If, when creating a Windows recovery disc, the message "We cannot create a recovery disc on this computer. Some required files are missing" appears, the winre.wim file or a system-reserved partition is missing.

Select the correct drive letter from the list, specify USB flash drive in the window. Then click the Next button.

Windows will warn you that the entire contents of the selected drive will be cleared. Click the Create button to continue.

The process of formatting the disk and copying the files may take several minutes, depending on the speed of your USB drive. After the disc is ready, click the "Finish" button.

The end of the boot creation process flash drives windows 8

Now check that your device is actually capable of booting from a recovery disc: some older USB drives do not support booting. In this case, make a recovery disc on a newer flash drive and re-test the drive for bootability. Now open the USB stick in any file manager and make sure the content matches what you see in the screenshot below:

How to Create an Old School System Recovery CD / DVD in Windows 8

If you want to create a bootable system recovery CD or DVD (this is only possible in Windows 8), open the search for Windows Key + W settings, type "recovery" and click "File Recovery in Windows 7" (yes, it is glitch, in fact, the option has this name).

If you cannot find the item you are looking for, open the window command line(use Windows Key + X), type sdclt.exe and press Enter to start the program.

On the left side of the Restore window Microsoft files Windows 7 click the Create System Restore Disc button.

The Create System Restore Disc window opens. Select the desired successor and click the Create Disc button.

If you are inserting a non-blank CD or DVD, you will see an error dialog box like this: "System recovery disc was not created, no media in device (0xC0AA0202)". Click OK, insert a blank disc and the burning process will start automatically.

Right click on your CD or DVD drive, select the "Erase this disc" option.

It may take a few minutes for the system recovery disc to be created. When the process is complete, specify a name for the disc and click the "Close" button.

Summary... I hope that this instruction helped you create a bootable USB flash drive for recovering Microsoft Windows 8. If you have any questions, ask them in the comments, I will definitely answer them (see below).

Answers to readers' questions

After restoring Windows 8, files and some programs are missing. How to get them back / restore?

Answer... You should understand that restoring windows 8 from a disk or other media assumes that everything installed programs will be removed and will need to be reinstalled. However, if you installed Windows on a different drive, you can go to custom folder(Users - [username]) on the system drive used by the previous OS. In the nested Application Data directory, look for custom files with config files applications, they can be copied to the user's current folder. That's just actually Windows applications will need to be installed from the installation files.

If you installed Windows 8 on system disk by default and overwritten old version OS, look for the Windows.old folder. It stores copies of previously installed programs.

Laptop crash after uninstall windows 8. Before that there was no archiving either. And now, having returned something, I do not find some files: office program, your notes, etc. Update center is not working. It is impossible to find deleted files, there is a default everywhere. How to restore windows 8 to normal as before?

Answer... It looks like you used a restore point to roll back to previous version Windows OS. However, the question is formulated in such a way that it is not clear what you wanted to ask. Let's try to answer the points.

1. Office suite the easiest way to install is by downloading the installation package on the developer's website.

2. Work of the center windows updates 8 Depends on Windows Update. Start - Run - services.msc. Find the specified service, switch to the "Automatic" state, reboot the system.

3. To restore deleted files use, we wrote about them many times.

If you restore the system via a usb flash drive (on Windows 8), will the system be restored to factory settings or by the time the recovery disk is created?

Answer. Windows recording 8 to a USB stick is just convenient opportunity reinstallation without using a floppy drive.

You can write windows 8 to a USB flash drive and reinstall from scratch, however, you will need to configure, install programs, and so on. If you use Windows restore points, then you return to the state in which the OS was fixed at the time this point was created.

Several sections are not as difficult as it seems at first glance. This article will cover partitioning in the Windows 8 operating system. At the same time, here you will find a description of both popular partition tables - GPT and MBR. By and large, the differences in actions are minimal, but still they are.

If you cannot partition the disk with the built-in program in the OS, Windows 8 can use for the same purposes and external programs, of which there are enough freely available on the world wide web. One of them will be discussed in the article. Usually third party tools are much more flexible and powerful.

GPT or MBR?

If your computer was recently purchased, it is likely that a GPT partition table disk is installed. The MBR has many problems that cannot be considered critical, but GPT fixes all the previous bugs. Therefore, it is better to use GPT if you decide to partition the disk. Windows 8 allows you to specify which table to use if no partitions have been created on the HDD yet.

Disadvantages of the old-style file table

It is not possible to create partitions on an MBR HDD with a total size of more than two terabytes. If your hard drive is three terabytes in size, one third of it will still be marked unused, no matter how much you struggle to change partitions.

Number of primary partitions per disk MBR cannot exceed four. If you need more, you will have to create several logical partitions, which will be placed in the primary.

The MBR can be modified by viruses. This state of affairs reduces the overall security of the PC.

Built-in utility

If your system has an HDD with a GPT table, you can split the hard disk into two using built-in tools, and this is very easy to do. Go to the "Control Panel" and click on the "Administrative Tools" item. Then open the "Computer Management" utility, and then in the left column, find the inscription "Disk Management".

If you are using a laptop, never touch the recovery partition, it is used by the device for its own needs.

Right click on the drive you want to partition. V context menu Tap on the "Compress volume" label. The system will ask you to indicate how much volume you want to separate from existing disk... After clicking on "OK", it may seem that the computer is frozen, do not rush to forcefully complete the program, otherwise you may lose all data on the partition that you are compressing. Please be patient to partition your hard drive, Windows 8 requires a number of complex operations.

After the end of the operation, an unallocated memory area will appear next to the partition that has been reduced. Click on its image and select "Create section" in the context menu. In the creation window, you need to find the file system and the size of the new volume.

If you perform the same operation on an MBR disk, an additional volume will be created instead of the primary one. The system will display both in the same way.

What is correct during Windows setup?

This HDD partitioning method has both advantages and disadvantages. The main advantages are simplicity and clarity. Moreover, the procedure will not take a lot of time. The main drawback is that this method is applicable only during the installation of a new operating system. And the user resorts to the process of division not only for this reason. In addition, resizing the sections and editing them in any way will be impossible without formatting. And formatting, as you know, removes all information from a section.

Some time after downloading the program that installs the OS, the user will be prompted to select the volume in which they will be located system files... This is where you have the opportunity to partition the disk. Windows 8 will only show one volume in this window if the HDD has just been purchased. If it was used before, most likely, the choice of volumes will be more extensive. To start editing partitions, click the "Disk Setup" button located at the bottom of the window.

One or more volumes will need to be deleted before any manipulation of disk space. Remember that by deleting a volume, you lose all the data that was stored on it. If there is free disk space that has not yet been mapped out, it is not necessary to delete the partitions.

After that click on the "Create" button. In the window that opens, you will need to enter the desired volume size. After that, all that remains is to click on the "Apply" item.

Using third-party programs

To partition a disk, Windows 8 can use not only built-in tools, but also other products. The most popular volume editing programs come from Paragon and Acronis. They have both free versions, and commercial, with extended functionality. This manual will describe Acronis Disk Director. Download, install and run it. The main window will greet you with a dialog for choosing which mode to work in. The manual one has more complex settings, while the automatic one requires a minimum of actions. Choose manual.

detailed instructions

Click on the button top menu"Master" - "Create section". Select the drive you want to split. Click Next to specify how much space to bite off the existing volume or volumes. Click on the "Next" button again. The program will now proceed to fix the errors. After that, you will be prompted to indicate what size the new partition is desirable. It is possible to both set the exact number of megabytes and use a graphic slider.

Don't waste all the free space if you want to create multiple volumes at once. Here, indicate whether the partition will be primary or logical. For common user there is not much difference, choose logical. If the system needs to change this parameter, it will take care of everything.

The next step is to decide what file system the partition will have. If you are using an operating room Windows system 8, choose NTFS. It is possible to specify file systems which are used in the OS of the Linux family. Next, select a letter and a label for the volume from the drop-down menu. To apply the changes, click the Finish button.

Final steps

All the manipulations done will be reflected in the graphical display of the HDD partitions. But that is not all. Now the program needs to be closed. Before exiting, the user will be asked whether to perform all of the above operations. The program cannot be completed without a response. Break up Windows disk 8 will only be possible if the answer is “Yes”. After that, the computer must be restarted.
