Interesting! Please note that by changing the type of file, you in no way change / damage its contents. All you do is specify your Windows that a particular file has a format that should be opened through a specific program.

Use third-party programs

File expansion can also be changed using additional software. We offer to use one of the most popular Total Commander programs:

Step 1.Open the program and reach the file you need.

Step 2.Press the F2 key, after which we change the name of the file after the point and press the Enter key. We remind you that it is the text after the point contains information about expanding the file. Now in the "Type" column you can see a file with its new expansion.

In this example, we changed the error codes file extension from ".doc" to ".txt"
