Install windows 7 from your hard drive. Installing Windows from your hard drive

Very often new computers are sold without pre-installed operating system... And if you are the happy owner of such a computer, then you are faced with the task of independent Windows 7 installations... This task is further complicated by the fact that the new computer has a new hard disk, which, as a rule, is not divided into partitions.

At least one partition must be created on the new hard disk in order to install the operating system on it. I always create at least two partitions on my hard drive ( drive C and drive D). I don't see any point in creating too many sections: two or three are just right.

Why do you even need to split the hard drive into several logical drives?

  • First, for the installation of the operating system and the necessary software it is recommended to set aside a separate section and not store personal data on it. Plus, there must always be free space on the system disk for correct Windows work.
  • Secondly, in case of reinstalling the system and formatting the disk C- all information on it will be destroyed. And everything that is on other partitions of the hard disk will not be affected.

So let's get down to installing Windows 7, during which we will divide our new hard drive into several partitions. To install, we need boot disk or a bootable USB flash drive with an operating system.

Turning on the computer, first of all we go to BIOS and set up booting from disk, or from a USB flash drive (how to do this is described in detail and). We insert our media into the computer, save everything required settings in BIOS and reboot.

The Windows 7 installer shell will appear on the screen. The download of the necessary installation files will begin:

After a while, a window will appear in which you need to select the system language and click "Next":

To start the installation, click the "Install" button:

In the next window, we accept the terms of the license agreement by checking the appropriate box, and click "Next":

Then we select the installation type “ Complete installation”:

Because we install Windows 7 on a completely new hard drive, then a similar window should appear in front of us:

In order to split the hard disk into partitions, press the button “ Disk setup”. In the additional options that appear, select “ Create”And enter the required partition size next to it in the box. Remember that the size is in megabytes. In my example, the size is entered 81920 MB. After specifying the required size of the future logical disk, click the “ Apply”:

Then Windows will ask you to create an additional partition for it. Do not be alarmed, it will only take up 100 MB of free disk space and will be invisible in the installed system. Click “OK”:

After that, we will return to the partition selection screen for installing Windows.
As you can see, there have been changes here. Now we have: 1) a section reserved by the system for its own needs; 2) the section we just created; 3) the remaining unoccupied space:

Additional partitions can be created from unallocated disk space in the same window. This is done in the same way we used above. I selected this line - I pressed the button “ Create"- and, without changing the size, pressed" Apply”. Here's what happened:

After that, select the disk partition on which we are going to install the operating system and click "Next".

The system installation process will begin directly, during which copying and unpacking of files, installation of components and updates will take place:

During the installation, your computer will reboot several times - do not click anything at this point, just watch the installation progress.

After the installation is complete, several windows of the initial Windows settings 7. Go through them and you will see a working Windows table 7:

That's all: this completes the installation of the operating system.

Bradhistory

Or a fucking Intel chipset. In general, they called me to order, set the task - to kill ten, screw in seven. I take a faithful flash drive with YUMI which has an image Acronis Disk Durector, all kinds of Windows and Linux needed for enikey work, and I start.

I demolished Windows 10, killed the ugly GPT, remade the disk, insert a USB flash drive with the Win 7 installer, but the stone flower does not come out, the Windows 7 installer sends me for Cdrom drivers, in other words, Windows 7 asks for CD-ROM drivers.

Disorder, I thought, because the CD-ROM was not even in the project. A slight googling gave the answer, Windows 7 does not support USB 3.0 spark plugs. Geyts with him, turn in BIOS mode USB compatibility. Linux and a USB flash drive and hdd see, acronis too, but the Windows 7 installer is hell.

In general, I thought, thought, and still found a way to install Win7 from the hard disk, although I wasted a lot of time on adding USB drivers, various rowing with sticking flash drives and other garbage, but there is a much easier way ...

What is needed

1. Two flash drives. On one we put our favorite "format", it is also a disk manager and Hiren’s Boot CD. In general, the whole HBCD is not needed here, you can do it.
2. I almost forgot, I still need some lightweight Linux. I'm in specific case used.
3. USB flash drive 2, on which either an image of the Win7 installation disk, or an installer already prepared for booting from a USB flash drive. In my case, there was option 2 prepared in advance with rufus
4. Sufficient disk space. At my disposal was already a terabyte screw, although the described move by a cat can be repeated even on a 50-gigabyte IDE-HDD, if it turns out to be in such a hardware configuration.

What do we do

1. We make partitions of the disk, as we please. For example, I made a logical D: drive for user files, 700 GB at the end of the drive, and left a 300 GB area unallocated at the beginning. The Win 7 installer itself will then mark it up, put the OS files on the future C: drive and create its own bootloader on a separate section "Reserved by the system", 100 MB in size

2. Using your favorite disk manager, we make a logical partition for the Windows 7 installer, the size varies, from 5 to 8 GB, but it is better to do 8. The format (file system) of the partition is NTFS or FAT32, the latter is preferable.

3. Boot into Linux, and if you followed the advice to use Puppy, then everything will be "like invede" - a desktop, a row of disks below, a USB flash drive with a USB flash drive icon. It's a pity, I can't shoot a video, the car has already been taken away

4. Copy the files from the USB flash drive with the Windows installer to the created partition. It is easy to copy files: open the flash drive, clicking on it 1 time, open desired disk(similarly), switch to the window with an open flash drive, press CTRL + A, selecting everything in the window, and drag it with the mouse to the next window, where the desired section is opened

5. It remains to reboot from bootable flash drive, and select the menu item Boot From Hard Drive ( Windows Vista/ 7/2008 or Xp), if you boot via PXE or from HBCD installed on YUMI, or sequentially select Boot Windows(XP / 2003/2008 / Vista / 7) From Local HDD and only then Boot From Hard Drive (Windows Vista / 7/2008 or Xp)

If everything is done correctly, then Grub4DOS will find bootmgr, which will launch the Windows 7 installer.

It remains for the installer to specify the unallocated disk area for installation.

Then the section with the installer can be demolished and combined with the C: or D: drive.

Something like this, I apologize that without screenshots and videos, the patient has already been discharged.

This article describes how to install or reinstall Windows 7.

Before starting the installation, you need to complete a few preparatory steps. At the beginning of the article, we have placed detailed content so that you can quickly view the entire sequence of actions and go to the necessary part of the instruction.

If you are interested in a specific issue (for example, errors during installation, how to enter and configure the BIOS, etc.), the links in the content will allow you to jump directly to it.

If you are a beginner, then just follow the guide from start to finish: each point is described in as much detail as possible and includes links to help instructions.

What should be done before starting the installation

Review the list below to check if your computer and system are ready for installation, or reinstalling Windows 7 and take the necessary steps to complete the preparation.

What are the types of installation, how to keep personal files and programs

There are two types of installation:
  • Complete reinstallation of the operating system (OS), when a hard disk partition (or an entire disk) is completely erased, including all your programs, documents and files.
  • An OS update that updates only system files.
Updating the OS has several disadvantages. Therefore, it is recommended to perform a complete reinstallation of the system, and for this you will need to save all personal files and program settings.

If you have not done so already, read the article on preparing for installation, from which you will learn:

  • how to save all important personal data;
  • what programs will be needed immediately after installation and where to download them;
  • can i copy installed drivers where to find drivers after installation;
  • analysis of some special cases;
Save all data and proceed to the next step.

How to legally download an original Windows 7 x64 or x32 image for free.

Download original image you can legally using the program Windows ISO Downloader: the Windows image file will be uploaded with Microsoft official website.

Program file Windows ISO Downloader with version 5.21 (dated September 20, 2017) attached to the article (to the right of this text).
How to download the image correctly is shown in the figure below:

Please select Windows partition 7, then the desired version of the Windows 7 image and the "Confirm" button.

Attention!
We strongly do not recommend use assemblies of Windows 7 - use only original system images.

Microsoft has several aircraft hangars of various equipment designed to test the operation of the operating system on various combinations of devices. Therefore, the official OS image works correctly for the vast majority of users.

The authors of assemblies do not have such opportunities for testing, therefore, a certain percentage of users will have problems during the operation of the assembly, which can only be solved by a complete reinstallation of Windows.

Which version of the image to choose: 32 bit or 64 bit

Everything is very simple: a 64-bit OS is needed in two cases: so that the computer can "see" 4GB or more random access memory and so that you can work with "heavy" programs or games. Attention!
Some new programs and games may not run on 32 bit Windows.
Conclusions:

  • If the amount of RAM is 4GB or more, feel free to choose x64 (64 bits).
  • If the computer is old and complex programs(eg audio and video editors, design systems, multimedia packages) are not used, choose x32 (32 bit).
More detailed information the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit operating systems is presented in this article.

The easiest way to see how much RAM you have is to right-click on the icon "My computer" → select item "Properties" v context menu.

In the window that opens, the amount of RAM will be indicated, as well as the bit capacity of the system currently installed.

Which version of Windows 7 should I choose: Home, Professional, or Ultimate?

Exists different versions(edition) Windows 7, some of which are very different in functionality... You can read more about Windows versions.

Most often, when installing, they choose between the versions " Professional " and " Ultimate ».
The best choice in terms of the version of the image would be « Windows 7 Professional » .
But don't worry if you have a different edition of Windows - the installation process will be the same.
In the edition “ Professional " Unlike Ultimate there are not a number of services that most users will never use.
You probably haven't even heard of their names: DirectAccess, Unix Application Launcher, BranchCache, BitLocker, etc. Accordingly, hard disk space version « Professional » will take less.

How to burn an image to a DVD or a USB flash drive correctly?

If you have already recorded the image and the installation from it proceeded normally, then you can immediately proceed to the next chapter. If you do not know with what programs you can write an image to a disk or a USB flash drive, then the following auxiliary articles will help you: Please note that installing from a USB flash drive is more reliable and also faster. If you have a 4GB or more flash drive available, then it is better to install from it.

Windows reinstallation process.

So, preparation for installation is complete: all personal data has been saved, the media with the operating system distribution kit has been created, and a partition has been prepared on which the image will be installed.

Setting Boot Device Priority in BIOS

  1. Restart your computer and enter BIOS.
    • on personal computers most often the buttons are used to enter the BIOS « DELETE» (« Del»), « F2 ","F1", "Esc»
    • on laptops - keys « Feight", "Fnine", "F12", "Esc»
  2. After going to the BIOS, you need to find the menu section responsible for installing devices to boot the OS.
The section can be in different places (depending on the type motherboard and BIOS version), so you need to find the menu « FIRST BOOT DEVICE », « BOOT » or « BOOT DEVICE ».
  1. You need to go to this section of the menu and install the drive in the first place DVD or HDD disk(your Flash drive) depending on what media the image is recorded on.
  2. After that, you need to exit the BIOS, saving the changes.
Most often, to save changes before exiting, you need to press the key « F ten" and then confirm saving by pressing « Y » or by selecting the item « Yes » in the dialog box.
If you have any difficulties with entering BIOS, saving changes, or finding boot device priority settings, then read the article on setting parameters in BIOS.

In the article you will find instructions with examples:

  • how to enter BIOS or UEFI with examples of different BIOS screens.
  • how to find an option BOOT DEVICA PRIORITY.
  • table with a list of keys for entering BIOS on laptops from different manufacturers.

Autostart Windows installation from DVD or USB flash drive

If you did everything correctly, then after restarting your computer, you will see the following:

  • if you are using DVD media, you will see the inscription "Press any key for load from CD ..." (press any key to boot from CD). You must immediately press any key, since after a short amount of time (about 10 seconds), the download will start from the next device installed in the BIOS to boot.
  • if you used a flash drive, the installation will start immediately
Remember!
When installing an operating system, you must be careful and careful with functions that you do not fully understand the meaning of.
The site administration is not responsible for the result of your actions.

Start installation

Attention!
Your computer may have gray and blue USB connectors. If you install the OS from a USB flash drive, be sure to plug the USB flash drive into the connector USB2.0 (gray) otherwise the installer may not see it.
The fact that the installer of the operating system has started work, you can judge by the line that appears at the bottom of the screen.

Figure 1. Installer Windows 7 copies files from media for further OS installation.
When preparation for installation is complete, you will see the inscription "Starting Windows" .
After that, the Windows 7 installation window will appear.

Selecting the installation type

  • A system update will allow you to reinstall Windows over your existing operating system.
  • A full installation will allow you to select an existing partition to install or re-partition the hard drive. The system will be installed cleanly, so this option more acceptable (we wrote more about installation types at the beginning of the article).

Figure 5. Selecting the type of operating system installation.
We choose "Full installation (additional parameters)", as shown in Figure 5.

Figure 6. Selecting a hard drive for further installation Windows 7.

Hard disk partitions for system installation

After proceeding to the full installation, we will be presented with a list hard drives where you can create or select partitions to install. At this step, there may be several options for the development of events.

  • You have only one hard drive in your system.
  • You have a separate hard drive (possibly an SSD) where the operating system will be installed, and separate discs for data storage.
  • The installer does not see the hard drive or other errors occur (below are links to articles that walk through these issues step by step)
Attention!
If you have multiple hard drives, transfer all important data to the drive where your personal files will be stored and unplug it to avoid accidentally confusing drives when partitioning or formatting.
If you have only one hard drive (or SSD), then it is advisable to split it into parts (if the disk space allows it).

The disk must be divided into parts so that at least 50GB is allocated for the system, perhaps even more, because for normal operation of Windows 7, it is desirable that the system partition has at least 15-20% of free space.
The disk is partitioned to make it easier to reinstall the operating system in the future.

For example, you only have 1 hard drive in your computer with a capacity of 500GB.

You split it into 2 parts: 120GB (disk " C: ") and 380GB (Disk " D)

Now on disk « D you store music, movies, photos, program installers, folders with drivers, games, etc., and on disk « C you install programs to work.

Files from the "Desktop" and "My Documents" folders are also stored on disk « C:». When in the future you want to reinstall Windows, then you just need to transfer (copy) all important files from the desktop and other folders on the disk. « C to disk « D, then perform a full reinstallation with disk formatting « C.
If the disk is not divided into partitions, then you will have nowhere to transfer data from the disk. « C:», and you won't be able to format it.

Partitioning the disk

In this step, you can create partitions on your hard drive if:

  • the hard disk is not partitioned (new or all partitions were previously deleted);
  • there are no important files on the hard disk and all information can be deleted.
The new hard disk is immediately displayed as a single partition and is labeled as "unpartitioned" (see Figure 6).
If you are going to repartition the disk (and all important files have already been transferred from it), then you need:
  1. Sequentially delete all partitions of your disk using the button "delete" . Attention! All files on these sections will be deleted!
  2. Select the unallocated partition that appears, click the button "Create" (see Figure 6).
  3. Specify the size first for the system partition (which will be the disk « C ) then create a partition for the disk « D (and other disks, if necessary).
If the disk was not allocated, the OS installer will additionally create a 100MB partition to store special system files.

Selecting a partition to install

If partitions on the disk were created earlier:

  1. Select the system partition (on which the OS was previously installed).
  2. Click on the button "Format".
  3. After formatting, select the cleared partition and click on the button "Further".
If the installer does not see the hard drive, requires a device driver, or has other problems, then search and fix your error using these two articles:
  • Analysis of various types of errors during the installation of Windows 7 (including by codes).
  • What to do if the installer does not see the device (drive, hard drive, keyboard or mouse, etc.).
In Figure 6, you can see a 35GB unpartitioned disk.

Figure 7. Creating a partition on a hard disk
In our case, no section has been created yet, so you need to click on the button "Create" (Figure 7), then indicate the volume of the section to be created (Figure 8) and click on the button Apply .

Figure 8. Selecting the volume for a partition on a hard disk

Figure 9. Window for confirmation of partition creation
After that, the operating system installer will inform you that an additional partition will be created to store system files:

Figure 10. Installing Windows 7.
Click on the button "Further", after which the installation will begin (copying all system files and the process of setting up the OS).

The process of copying files will take 15-30 minutes and will not require any action from you.

Figure 11. Installation completion window
After the files have been copied and unpacked, the computer will restart.

At this point, you must remove the DVD or Flash drive from your computer, as the installation will continue from the hard drive where you copied the required files.

After rebooting, you will see a window with the completion of the installation.

Figure 12. Entering the username and computer network name for the installed system.
The completion process will take a few minutes, after which the initial configuration of the operating system starts.

Completing Windows installation and initial setup

When the setup process is over, you will be prompted for a username to create your account, as well as the name of the computer for subsequent network identification (under this name, your computer will be visible in local area networks Windows).

Next, you will be prompted for a password and a password hint. If you want to protect access to your account with a password, then enter it. Or you can skip this step by clicking the button "Further" .

How do I install Windows from a hard drive? We put XP / Vista / 7/8/10

Hello everyone, in my next blog post Computer76 I'll show you how to install Windows from your hard drive. Yes, the usual process of installing Windows for the user implies the presence of an optical drive, an installation disc and / or a USB flash drive with an operating system. And if none of this is there?

To all dissatisfied “professionals”. This article is not written for a guru. Therefore, I try to describe everything in detail with the appropriate links. And I will immediately divide the article into several parts.

To install Windows from a hard drive, all we need is the Internet and a slightly workable operating system.

Why and when is it needed?

  • First, I have already named the main reasons. The Windows disk can be in any of the many dusty boxes, or even out of reach. Disk drives for some desktop users no longer work or work somehow. And for laptop owners, this is generally a problem ...
  • Further. No need to gut BIOS settings. Why all these keys F2, F10, DEL, settings Advanced Settings, changing boot devices ... Do you need it? No, of course not. You can install Windows from your hard drive right now.
  • You will be protected from the need to urgently transfer the necessary files to various media before the upcoming formatting: this can be done later, without haste, in comfortable conditions.

But, of course, before installing Windows from the hard disk, we still have to get the installation files somewhere. That is, download Windows from the network. To do this, you can refer to the section or specifically to the article If much remains unclear, refer to the article

However, you can download the image right now directly from the server Microsoft ANY VERSIONS with a simple file:

There are no viruses at any stage of working with the file. I have personally checked and packaged myself too. When choosing a version of Windows, the antivirus should react to the user's choice - this is normal. Select in sequence:

  • version
  • bit capacity of the future system

It remains to specify the location where you upload the Windows image. More details I use this utility in the article .

What do you need to install Windows from your hard drive?

I give right away a set of programs that will be useful to us.

  • Actually downloaded from the Windows network
  • Program Daemon tools to work with images (how to work with it is described in the article). The 7-zip archiver can also unpack the image, but stock up on an image reader
  • Program EasyBCD to work with a boot record so that the computer correctly displays the input in new system.
  • You can immediately stock up on your device. First download them from the network and put them in a folder, for example, Drivers... In any case, without drivers anywhere. However, this is not necessary, the operation can be done afterwards (if the installation Windows files see the network card). I would venture to skip this step for now.

ATTENTION

The described technique is not suitable for computers with Windows operating systems of the NT family (up to and including Windows XP). EasyBCD they will not work as we need. You can not search in any version!

Everything seems to be….

Where to find a Windows image, I will not get excited for a long time. You have already read my articles and we take it as an axiom that the Windows image is already on the computer. Don't stick it too far. Personally, I throw all temporary files directly to the Desktop.
Now you need to prepare HDD to accept the new system to install Windows from the hard drive. We will consider the option when the system will be placed second to the existing one. However, the method is quite applicable if new copy Windows will overwrite the previous one. Now I do not advise you to do this. But one condition is unshakable - the presence of a free partition on the hard drive, from which the installation files new windows will be copied. , described in detail in the blog article of the same name. I did it on the same laptop.

So, the hard drive is broken, the Windows image on the computer. And now, actually, how to install Windows from your hard drive.

Install programs Daemon tools and EasyBCD to the computer, so as not to be distracted later. You know how to install programs, I think.

Now let's look at the process of how to install Windows from a hard disk using a specific example.

A laptop came to me with Windows Vista preinstalled at the ready. The work of the system turned out to be unstable, the system itself was badly beaten, and it was decided to install a second Windows 7 system. As you can see in the photo below, the hard drive has already been divided by me into three logical partitions. One of them is now busy with Vist (of course, WITH), the second was booked by the hostess for files stored on the computer (disk D), and the third (F) reserved by me for Windows 7 - I pinched off a small piece from the storage.

STARTA computerService(in the toolbar) - Folders settings…- tab View- expose Show hidden files, folders, disks

Let's run Daemon tools... Let's point it to the path to the Windows 7 image.

Then copy all Windows installation files from virtual floppy and transfer them to a free partition that is reserved for future Windows 7, that is, to drive F in my case. I put everything on disk F. It took me 7 minutes to copy.

let's try to install Windows from the hard drive

Let's run EasyBCD with administrator rights. We are greeted by the settings window. Everything is in English, but I will guide you. Make sure you are on the menu Add New Entry:

Lower right in Removable / External storage select tab WinPE... In field Name (Name) enter the name of the system. I labeled it as "Seven". In field Path (Way) click on the binoculars with the folder to the right of the field to fill in, specify the path to the file boot.wim, which is located in the newly created folder sources on disk F.

That is, the path on my laptop looked like:

F - sources - boot.wim

In general, I got it like this:

Let's finish the settings. We need a button on the right Add Entry (Add).

ATTENTION

By pressing the button View Settings (Current menu) you can see what the bootloader menu will be like. This will be the first window that allows you to select your operating system. Look at it before you make the change. It can then be edited. But now it should look something like this:

You will see labels numbered Entry # 1 and Entry # 2 in the same order. The first will be loaded Seven, second - Vista... That is, after completing the settings and an imminent reboot, you will see the following window:

But this is only later.

If you have time to press something, click on the button on the left Edit Boot Menu (Edit Boot Menu)

And delete invalid entries. You can swap the loading order with the buttons Up and Down(Up and Way down), delete selected unnecessary records with the button Delete, change the download timeout from 30 sec. to 0. In general, play to your taste and admire the result after the reboot. If you made changes in this menu, save through the button below Save Settings (Save).

Is everything ready for you? Go. Don't close anything and just reboot.

The installation took me less than 10 minutes. As you can see for yourself, installing Windows from your hard drive is very fast.

After the installation of Windows 7 is complete, the boot menu will look like this:

Windows 7 is installed .. but the word Seven gets in the way

Let's delete it using the same EasyBCD. Go back to Vista, launch the program and enter the menu Edit Boot Menu:

P. S.

At some point, one of the systems can get bored ... In my example, Vista is almost completely dead. It will be easy to remove it. Just go to the new system (mine is Windows 7) and:

  • format the entire logical drive with Vista from under Windows 7. All data will be destroyed! Windows tools it may not work, you have to use the program . How to work with it can be found in the article
  • however, in some cases, especially for devices with a pre-installed OS, you cannot do without a special disk to remove an unnecessary system. We will consider working with such disks in another article.
  • using the program already installed on Windows 7 EasyBCD remove the Vista entry from the bootloader. How to do this is clear from the written article.

P.P.S. EasyBCD will not only allow you to boot operating systems directly from your hard drive. With its help you can:

any disk directly in the boot menu

Good luck to all of us

Install os from hard drive. How to install Windows directly from your hard drive using different methods?

Today we will look at the way install clean operating system from the main hard drive HDD, without using a CD \ DVD drive, flash drive and external storage. In our harness there is only HDD computer image Windows 8.1 and a program called to change boot records.

It seems to me that this article will be very useful, since it often happens that there is no clean optical disc or the drive is broken, or maybe you don't want to spoil the disc at all.

A free utility can be downloaded from the official website http://neosmart.net/EasyBCD/.

First, we need to create a partition on the disk where we will copy the installation files Windows 8.1.

To do this, run the disk management utility, go to Start and enter the command diskmgmt.msc.

We shrink our disk to 5 gigabytes to create a new partition on them.

Right-click on our disk and select Shrink Volume ...

Then we enter the desired size and press the button Shrink

Then from the received 5 gigabytes of free space we create a new partition labeled Setup... Right-click on the unallocated space and select Create Simple Volume ...

We mount our operating system installation image to a virtual drive and copy all the contents to our new disk.

Now we run to add boot record to start installing Windows.

  1. Press the button Add a note
  2. Select the tab at the bottom WinPE
  3. In field Name we enter our label Setup
  4. In field Way select the file boot.wim from folder sources our created disk
  5. Push the button Add

By pressing the button Current settings you can check if our new entry has appeared. Now you can close the program and restart your computer.

When you turn on the computer, the OS selection menu will appear, in which we select our installation disk Setup... And the standard installation of the system already familiar to you will begin.

When choosing a disk, we remove the disk from our old OS and install in the vacated space Windows 8.1.

After installing the new OS, section Setup can be removed through the same disk management utility, as well as expand the remaining partition.

Greetings, friends.

Probably every computer or laptop user has encountered a situation when he realizes that it is time to reinstall the operating system. This is due to the appearance of difficulties in work, frequent mistakes and other unpleasant moments. But what if you don't have a USB stick, a plastic disc to burn an image, or your floppy drive refuses to work? Don't worry. Today I will show you how to install Windows from your hard drive. Many people do not even suspect that such tools exist at all.

It must be said right away that this option is only suitable for operating systems that are in working order, since many movements will need to be done using the shell. That is, if you suddenly have a blue screen, this method will not help.

In addition, it is worth noting that this guide should only be applied to future installations of Windows 7 and later. Moreover, it is absolutely not important on which device the operation is performed. Therefore, Windows XP cannot be placed on a computer or laptop in this way. Since other mechanisms are used there.

For the procedure itself, we need several tools:

An imaging program is usually DAEMON Tools... Personally, I generally use the built-in features of Win.

    Utility EasyBSD.

The very image of the operating system.

Step-by-step instruction()

Important! It is desirable that up to this point your hard drive has already been split into at least two partitions - for the system and files.

So, to install Windows 8 from HDD, you need to follow a series of steps. First, create a separate section for the installation files:

Now to install Windows 10 or early version you need to properly prepare the files themselves:

Now it is necessary to do so, the computer understood where to boot from. This is exactly what the application is needed for. EasyBCD... The order of performing the actions is as follows:

Suddenly, in some situations, something is not clear to you, you can just watch the video:

If you select "", you will see whether the entry has appeared or not. In your case, it should already be in place.

After the work done, close the application and restart the computer. As a result, a menu should appear where users can select the desired system. Then we indicate installation disk"". As a result, the standard operating system installation procedure should start.

Bootice()

The last chain of actions can be done via Bootice... The program allows you not to create additional disk, but installs everything that is available.

We do the following:

It is worth noting that it is not necessary to indicate exactly where the file is located, which is responsible for the correct loading of the system, since the application will find it by itself.

Installation()

This method does not require setting the boot parameters via BIOS, as in the case of using a plastic disk or USB drive. This approach is useful if suddenly the buttons on the keyboard do not work for you, allowing you to get to the right place.

In general, regardless of the version of the future OS, the process is almost the same.

It is important to remember that it is best to have one connected hard drive before starting the process. This will simplify the partition selection process. In addition, the equipment will consume fewer resources, which in general will have a positive effect on the operability. Therefore, you should not install the OS in this way on another hard drive. The same can be said for SSD placement. Of course, if each action is performed correctly, problems should not arise. But even with the slightest mistake, it is possible to lose all data on any of the partitions.

It is also worth noting that a similar procedure is possible from an external hard drive. True, for this, you will still need to run Win to set all the parameters. However, again, such procedures are not recommended, since by mistake you can simply delete the data.

In the case of using a plug-in device, you can set the boot setting from it in the BIOS, and simply place a new shell on a laptop or computer. True, for this you need to external component write the OS correctly. In more detail, you can.

In any case, regardless of the chosen method, everyone will be able to place a new one if there is already Windows on the computer.

Well, I hope this article will help you deal with the problems on your device.

In general, I would like to recommend finding a compact portable USB device in advance (today they cost minimal money) and record correct system... Personally, I have three of them - for every latest version of the OS from Microsoft. Thus, at any second, I can insert a USB flash drive into the port, and within two hours completely restore the computer's performance, having a brand new shell.

I wish you good luck in your hard work! Subscribe and tell others about the blog.

Even not advanced Windows users have probably heard that there are several ways to reinstall a given operating system: using a DVD and a USB drive. These two options are now the most common among users. However, there is another one that allows you to perform a "clean" installation of Windows or upgrade it to a newer version using a hard disk partition. It can help in cases where there is neither a USB drive nor a DVD to which you can write an image of the operating system. If you are curious to know, how to install Windows 10 from a hard drive partition, we recommend that you read this manual. Perhaps it will be useful to you in the future.

Make sure you have:

  • ISO file with Windows 10 operating system.
  • EasyBCD and UltraISO programs.
  • At least 5 GB of free space on the system partition.

Installing Windows 10 from a hard drive

Interestingly, in this way you can install not only Windows 10, but also Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. If you want to install any of these operating systems, you just need to delete the Windows 10 files, copy the files of your preferred system and specify the path to "boot.wim".

Many of those who have encountered the installation or reinstallation of Windows systems know that for this operation, in most cases, external media such as USB drives are used. If you try to run the installation file from the hard drive, the user will not get the desired result. Therefore, for Windows 7, the installation from the hard drive must be done using completely different methods. For an ordinary user, there are five main options, which will now be discussed.

Windows 7: Installing from a hard drive. Installation options

So, let's consider some directions in carrying out the installation of the seventh version of the system. Among the main options are the following:

  • installation over the old "seven";
  • installation as a second OS;
  • installation using the command line;
  • using special utilities;
  • installation of the system on an external HDD.

Each of these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages, however, for all of them one general rule is the presence of an image of the installation distribution of the system, with which later you will have to work. In addition, if your computer already has hard disk partitions created, you can leave them alone during Windows 7 installation. Otherwise, they will need to be created. But more on that later.

Preliminary information

Now let's look at some initial conditions that must be met without fail.

The system requirements are such that a 32-bit system requires at least 16 GB of free disk space, while an x64 system requires about 20 GB. And this is provided that there is an already installed system, the directory of which after installation will be renamed to Windows.old. You cannot delete it manually under any circumstances (unless you do a disk cleanup). Then it will simply be impossible to rollback.

Installing over an old system

Using this technique, you immediately need to understand that you will not be able to format the hard drive when installing Windows 7, even if it is a system partition. But we will rely on the fact that the distribution is on the C drive when the partition is done. How to partition a disk will be discussed later.

As already clear, first the downloaded distribution must be placed on an independent partition (usually drive D). You can, of course, start the installation from it, but then errors will come out. Now we just select the installation file Setup.exe from the Archive directory, followed by the installation of Windows 7, which is no different from the standard procedure.

In this case, for Windows 7, installing from a hard drive is more of a means of updating system files, since the new configuration can inherit errors from the old one. It is not comfortable.

Alternative method for installing Windows 7 as a second OS: what might you need?

However, you can do otherwise. To install the system, a method is provided for installing it not over an existing OS, but as an additional OS, which can then be loaded when selected from the boot menu (Boot). The main thing is to create boot partition in the original volume.

To carry out all operations, you only need to have an application that can work with images and create a utility that creates a bootable MBR sector... We use Daemon Tools and EasyBCD as an example.

Creating a section

It is sometimes impossible to download the installation distribution just like that, even if it is on the system disk. This is due only to the fact that the system itself does not recognize it, and if it does, it sets a ban on downloading. Here you need to turn to the disk management section, which can be accessed through the computer administration.

Fortunately, Windows 7, like all subsequent versions, has such a tool. First, we look at the virtual partition D. Call the menu and select the volume compression (the specified size should slightly exceed the size of the distribution). Next, right-click the menu and use the command to create a simple volume (without this, the system will not determine that this section is functional).

How to partition a hard drive when installing Windows 7 is clear. Let's get down to the most important part.

Installing the system

Now we are directly interested in installing Window 7. Rigid systems disk are such that they still cannot see the distribution.

Run the Daemon Tools program and mount the image using the appropriate command, specifying the path to the saved file. We copy it to the newly created section (unpacked image file).

Now we launch the EasyBCD application and press the button for adding an entry, after which we indicate the WinPE tab at the bottom, and then enter "New volume" in the name field, and in the path line we determine the location of the boot.wim file.

After the entry is added, just restart your computer or laptop. This starts the standard installation of the "seven".

Installing Windows 7 using the command line

Again, this option cannot be applied when the initial system is damaged or faulty. But in case of recovery, it will do.

When Windows starts, press the F8 key (the standard method, unlike Windows 10) and select the troubleshooting line from the menu (the first in the list). In the additional parameters, we indicate the same, after which we use what we need in the language selection window, and proceed to the system recovery, where we select the command line.

We write two lines in the console:

  • X: \> windows \ system32> E;
  • E:> setup.exe

Don't be afraid to make mistakes. DOS and Windows do not have the same drive letter. As a last resort, an error will simply be thrown, after which it will be necessary to correct the corresponding symbol, but, as a rule, this is not required. Well, then the process starts, which is no different from the standard one. Note that in this case, you do not even need to reboot the system.

Installation over any system using the BOOTICE utility

Now suppose we need another installation of Windows 7. We have a formatted hard drive. The catch is to create a bootable device in the form of an HDD partition.

The BOOTICE utility was created in order to emulate the continuation of the Windows 7 installation, creating and overwriting the boot sector at the same time (for this, the unpacked distribution contains a bootmgr folder).

To start the installation, you need to change the MBR boot record to GRUB4DOS. But here you need to take into account one feature. The fact is that the utility requires the creation of a bootloader manager name of no more than five characters (letters).

Rename the bootmgr file to GRLDR, and then run the utility itself. The menu immediately shows new entry, so there we put a tick (destination disk), and then press the change setting button and select save to disk in the configuration. All that remains is to reboot the device, after which the installation of Windows 7 will be activated. Installation from the hard disk will follow immediately. As a rule, there should be no problems.

Installing Windows 7 on an external hard drive

But, despite all the nuances of installing the "seven" on a hard drive, some users try to install the system on removable media, in particular a USB-HDD. What to say? This is fundamentally wrong!

The question is: why create problems for yourself out of the blue? Booting from any USB device is much slower than from a hard drive. The external drive itself (hard drive) is subjected to stronger physical stress and is not immune from failures and errors. Nevertheless, "especially gifted" users will have to use (at least) a virtual machine. And many of these "geeks" have no idea what it is.

Of course, for the rest, we can say that any virtual emulation, for example, using WMWare or the same built-in Hyper-V module, can be done quite simply. But the matter is not limited to automatic settings. Here you will have to set the parameters corresponding to the system configuration. And all those who argue that with an operating system installed in it can be created in a couple of clicks and in five minutes are absolutely wrong. Nothing like this!

Possible errors and failures

Now the saddest thing. What to do if installation Issues of equipment failure are not considered in principle. External hard drive must be enabled in the BIOS, as well as the boot priority from the main device.

If you are having problems with the file system, you can always use a command like sfc / scannow or chkntfs x / c (if partition C is selected as the system drive). Well, if the hard drive has fallen apart, there's nothing you can do about it. We'll have to change. Although ... Many experts advise to first use the program supposedly remagnetizing the surface of the disk, but this method is hard to believe.

On the other hand, when installing the system on an external drive without utilities like ImageX included with the set Windows package AIK, indispensable. In addition, the PWBoot module does not recognize Cyrillic characters at all, but works like command line... So is it worth doing this?

And that is not all! When you start choosing multiple concurrent installations, you have to choose between a standard VHD container format and a regular removable device. It is believed that the VHD format is read faster, but the problem with enabling this type of media is precisely in using the BIOS settings. And when switching from BIOS to UEFI (which is not always supported), there can be much more problems. However, for Windows 7, installation can be done using any of the above methods. But formatting partitions will fail in most cases.

Thus, the conclusion suggests itself that the simplest is the ideal solution. An ordinary user will not use specific methods for creating boot sectors. It's obvious. But the method of updating the system looks much simpler, but it also has its drawbacks. In general, it is better to perform a "clean" installation, having previously copied the necessary information to another medium.

Let's take a closer look at the installation (reinstallation) of the operating system (hereinafter referred to as OS) Windows 7 from the distribution kit, which is located on the hard disk of the computer. This method has some advantages - the installation is faster, since the read speed from the hard disk is higher and, moreover, errors of reading the CD in the optical drive are excluded. The Windows 7 distribution kit must be unpacked with any archiver convenient for you onto the partition () of the disk that cannot be removed during the installation process, usually the partition on D.

Let's dwell on three installation options:

Each of the options has its own advantages and disadvantages, which will be described below. Common disadvantages are - the inability to use on computers with UEFI (replacement of the outdated BIOS) that support GPT (new ways of partitioning the disk replacing the MBR) and the impossibility of restarting the installation in case of mistakes you made, or identifying a hardware malfunction during the installation process (in this case , you will have to resort to installing from a CD or a USB flash drive).
Further descriptions refer to the installation of one OS, on a computer with one hard drive, since when installing a second OS there are features, the consideration of which is not included in the scope of this page of the site.
And so in order:

Installing Windows 7 from a hard drive under the old Windows 7 OS.

  • Inability to change partitions during installation (format partition C you will not be able - the installation turns out to be not entirely clean);
  • The inability to start the installation with some damage to the current Windows 7 operating system and the inability to start the installation of some non-original versions of Windows (the message "Error code: 0x8030002F" will pop up on assemblies);

In order to have enough in the section WITH space for the new OS, it must have more than 16 GB of free space (for a 32-bit system) or 20 GB (for a 64-bit system).
And so - we unpack with any archiver convenient for you (for example, WinRAR) into a section (we used to say disk) D"* .Iso" distribution image.

Picture 1.

The distribution kit includes 5 folders and 3 files outlined in the figure with a frame. Here the "Archive" folder conventionally denotes the user's folders and files in the section - they will not interfere with us. The main thing is that there is enough space on the partition (the volume of the unpacked distribution kit is approximately 2.32 GB).
To start the installation, run the file setup(application 110 KB).
The installation of Windows 7 begins, the sequence of which is almost the same as installing from a CD.
But here I would like to dwell on the specifics of choosing a partition for installing Windows.

Figure 2.

Here you can see three main partitions of the hard drive created with the previously installed Windows 7 operating system.

  • Section 1 - 100.0 MB. Hidden - it is not visible in Windows Explorer. The main purpose of this section is to store and protect equipment files and boot folder that tells the computer where to start Windows. The attributes of this section are: System, Active, Main section. This section may not exist! Windows 7, when partitioning free disk space, automatically determines the need to create this partition, depending on the presence of an active partition in the system and the number of already existing partitions (based on the limitation, there can be no more than four main partitions). The size of this section can be 100 ÷ 350 MB, depending on the Edition of Windows 7.
  • Partition 2 - 99.9 GB. V Windows Explorer you see it as a disk C... It contains the operating system files and part of the user files.
  • Partition 3 - 1763.0 GB. In Windows Explorer, you see it as a drive D... It contains user files. In this case, we have located the distribution of the Windows 7 installation on it.

In the considered installation option, we cannot do anything with these sections (including formatting Section 2), - select Section 2 and press the button Further.

Figure 3.

A "Windows Setup" warning appears, stating that "The selected partition may contain files from a previous Windows installation. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named “Windows.old”. You will be able to access the information in the “Windows.old” folder, but you will not be able to use previous version Windows ". We agree - we press the button OK.
The installation of the Windows 7 OS continues, as a result of which in Section 2 new files and folders of the new Windows 7 OS will appear, in Section 1 (if present) the files and folders will be overwritten.

Figure 4.

At the end of the installation of Windows 7 by opening the local drive in Windows Explorer C you will see the files and folders located on it (in this case, the options “show hidden files and folders are enabled), including the aforementioned folder Windows.old with the files of the previous OS. You can enter it and save the files you need by copying to another location. In the future, as unnecessary, you can use the folder Windows.old uninstall by running Disk Cleanup.

Starting a Windows 7 installation from the hard drive from the command line at the beginning of the boot of the old Windows 7.

The disadvantages of this installation option include:

  • The inability to start the installation with some damage to the current Windows 7 operating system and the inability to start the installation of some non-original Windows versions(assemblies);
  • The OS must be of the same bitness, 32-bit or 64-bit.

This installation option allows you to perform a "clean" installation by deleting partitions containing the old OS and creating them anew.
And so, - we assume that you unpacked the distribution kit to the root of the section following the section with the OS (you can also follow it - it only affects the choice of the letter in the command). To start the installation, you need to run the distribution file setup. exe located at the root of the section (do not confuse with setup.exe located in the sources folder).
While starting (rebooting) the computer, hold down the F8 key.

Figure 5.

When the "Additional boot options" menu appears, select "Computer troubleshooting" (suggested by default) and press the key Enter.

Figure 6.

In the "System Recovery Options" select the keyboard input method and press the button Further.

Figure 7.

We select a user, if you have a password, we enter it as well. If not set, then leave the field empty and press the button OK.

Figure 8.

Select the recovery tool - click on the option: Command line .

Figure 9.

You need to run two commands here:

  • Go to the section where the distribution is located;
  • Run the file in this section setup. exe.

We add in the first command: "X: \> windows \ system32> E and press the key Enter... Here you need to take into account that in MS DOS the letters of the partitions do not coincide with those that you see in Windows Explorer (the hidden system partition in Windows Explorer is not visible - in MS DOS it is visible under the letter C).
In the second command we add: “E:> setup. exe"And press the key Enter.
Do not be afraid to make a mistake - in case of an error, the command will simply fail with an error message.

Push the button Install.

Installing Windows 7 from a hard drive from any OS capable of installing a new MBR (Master Boot Record) on the hard drive using the BOOTICE utility.

The computer must be running any Windows OS that allows you to place the unpacked distribution kit in the "root" of any partition (logical disk) that cannot be deleted and allows you to run the BOOTICE utility. The BOOTICE utility is required to install a new MBR (Master Boot Record) onto the hard disk.
The principle is simple - during a reboot, the new master boot record you have installed starts the OS not installed on the hard disk, but the bootmgr boot manager available in the unpacked distribution kit, which continues the installation of Windows 7, proceeding further, as when installing from a CD. During the installation process, the MBR you installed is automatically replaced with the standard Windows 7 MBR.

And so we consider everything in detail.
In order to avoid errors and prevent limitation of installation possibilities, we disconnect all unnecessary disks, leaving only one hard disk.
We assume that the "* .iso" image of the distribution kit is located on the hard disk of the partition D... We unpack it to any you convenient archiver(for example, WinRAR) to the "root" of the partition (we used to say disk). After unpacking, we will only need three folders boot, efi, sources and download manager bootmgr, - the rest does not participate in our "clean" installation (the "* .iso" image of the distribution kit also does not participate). Available in the section D your files will not interfere (the main thing is that there is enough space), New MBR on reboot will launch the boot manager bootmgr(we'll rename it below). In the same place or in an accessible place, you must place the BOOTICE utility file (about 150 KB in size) - you can download it, for example, from this link.
After that you have files on disk D will look like this (unused folders and distribution files are not shown):

Figure 13.

To run Windows 7, the MBR type is used WindowsNT 6 xMBR.
To start the Windows 7 installation process, we need the boot manager to start after restarting the computer. bootmgr... This can be done by changing the master boot record of the MBR hard disk, - to type GRUB4DOS... We will do this using the BOOTICE utility.
But there is one peculiarity here - GRUB4DOS requires the name of the boot manager file to be no longer than 5 letters! Therefore, the name of the download manager file is bootmgr will have to be shortened.

Figure 14.

The name itself does not play a role here - the main thing is that it should be no longer than 5 letters and coincide with the one specified in the "GRUB4DOS Configuration". So let's rename it to GRLDR, - into the one that the BOOTICE utility will offer us later by default (Figure 17). The next time the computer boots, a new boot record will be found and on any partition (and even a logical disk) of the hard disk it will launch the boot manager under the name GRLDR.
And so the necessary files are there, - run the BOOTICE utility.

Figure 15.

We have one hard drive - it is visible in the "Destination drive" field. To replace the MBR, press the button Execute.MBR... We do not touch the PBR unit.

Figure 16.

On the "Master Boot Rekorder" tab, enable the option and press the button Set / Change.

Figure 17.

In the "GRUB4DOS Configuration" window that opens, make sure that the name of the GRLDR file corresponds to the above renamed boot manager and press the button Save to disk.
Then pressing the button Output(Figure 15) close the BOOTICE utility.

That's it, the preparatory stage has been completed. You can start installing Windows 7!
We reboot the computer. At boot time, the old OS will no longer start for us, since its master boot record is no longer on the hard disk. Instead, we have already recorded GRUB4DOS 0.4.5c / 0.4.6a (grldr.mbr) which will launch the download manager file with a new name GRLDR.
The installation of a new OS begins ... Its procedure is similar to the installation from a CD, let's see.
With such an installation, you can delete the partitions you do not need (of course, except for the partition containing the distribution kit) - create new ones in their place.
